The final version of Opera 10.60 has arrived, with Opera claming that its latest browser is the fastest in 'key browser tests'.
Although it is still well behind the likes of Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and both Safari from Apple and Google Chrome, Opera is still a significant player in the browser market.
Opera 10.60 brings new features, but the headline is that Opera claim the latest iteration is 'up to 50 per cent faster than the previous version.'
Fastest?
"With the final version of Opera 10.60, the browser scores more than 50 percent faster than its predecessor - which was the fastest browser on Earth - in key benchmark tests," said Opera.
"This translates into a faster browsing experience for users on modern JavaScript-heavy sites such as Gmail and Facebook."
Although there will be the usual quibbling about which browser is faster, Opera did tell TechRadar back in May, that this version was the fastest.
WebM and geolocation
Also included are geolocation tools, built in video-playback with the WebM platform
"Geolocation eases the work of putting you on the map by determining your position," adds Opera. "To ensure your privacy, you have full control over when this feature is used.
"Opera is first to give you built-in video playback with the open WebM format that gives you optimized video right in the browser on all platforms.
"Other Opera features such as offline applications let you work using web-based applications, without Internet connectivity."

How very grown up of you.
Perhaps you should try it sometime, it makes all the other browser look like chumps. It's faster, more features, better looking, more secure, you name it it does it.

Good times for those that can think for themselves and don't just follow whatever browser they are told to use by the popular media tells them to use.

3. Are we talking in seconds here? Seriously WHO is going to notice the speed difference between the browsers out there? I use FF because I like it, not because of any speed claims they might have and I won't be changing to Opera just because they claim theirs is faster.
