Lanterns trailer reportedly reveals a fourth Green Lantern might show up – and they'd be a perfect fit for James Gunn's DC Universe
A December 2025 release has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
- Lanterns' first trailer has reportedly been shown at a behind-closed-doors event
- The DC Universe TV show will land on HBO Max sometime in mid-2026
- Its teaser could receive its worldwide premiere before the end of this year
It's been a disappointing time for Green Lantern fans, especially in *ahem* light of the recent confirmation that Lanterns won't be released on HBO Max in early 2026.
But, to paraphrase the opening of the Green Lanterns Corps' oath, brighter days lie ahead for the DC Universe (DCU) TV show. And, with a new report confirming its first trailer is not only locked, but has been shown at a behind-closed-doors event, it might not be long until it's released online.
According to reputable Brazilian news outlet Omelete, the first teaser for Lanterns received its worldwide premiere at an HBO Max Upfronts presentation yesterday (November 25). The trailer hasn't leaked online, but Omelete's team was in attendance and has described what they saw. Potential spoilers follow for Lanterns, so turn back now if you don't want anything ruined ahead of time.
What does the first teaser for Lanterns tell us?
Per Omelete, the teaser shows Kyle Chandler's Green Lantern veteran Hal Jordan teaching Aaron Pierre's newcomer John Stewart how to be an elite member of the intergalactic space cop agency.
Later, the pair are seen arguing, with Stewart trying to rile up Jordan by suggesting he's a better Green Lantern and more effective at saving people. The preview also offers a brief glimpse of Jordan flying, as well as numerous shots of the US mid-west, which is the setting for this DCU Chapter One sci-fi mystery thriller series.
Elsewhere, Omelete reveals that a squirrel Green Lantern – yes, you read that right – is mentioned. DC comic book fans don't need me to tell them that this is likely a reference to Ch'p, an anthropomorphic rodent-like alien who's also part of the Green Lantern Corps. If Ch'p ends up being part of proceedings, it'd be a perfect addition to James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU, which is going all-in on bringing DC Comics' weirdest and wackiest creations to life on the big and small screens.
Finally, Omelete says the trailer didn't reveal the DCU's take on the iconic suits worn by the Green Lantern Corps. I expect a big reveal like this to be held back until the HBO TV Original makes its debut next year, so it's not a huge surprise that no costume teases were shown.

Hopefully, Lanterns' first teaser will get its worldwide premiere before the end of 2025. From what I hear, DC Studios will have a presence at this year's Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP), which runs December 4 to 7. It's possible, then, that one of the most exciting DCU movies and TV shows' inaugural trailer will be shown there and released online soon after.
While we wait, find out everything we know so far about Lanterns. Once you're done, get the lowdown on Lanterns' talented chief creative team and why one of its showrunners says it's "as much of a buddy cop shown as a superhero show".
