My Dreame X40 Ultra robovac has survived over a year of torturous testing in households with pets and toddlers — so I can absolutely recommend it at this steep Prime Day discount

I'd been waiting years for a robot vacuum smart enough that I didn't need to tidy up before it could get to work, and the Dreame X40 Ultra was the first model I tested that actually delivered on that promise.

In fact, it spent a year cleaning my own home after my Dreame X40 Ultra review was published, before being handed over to my sister-in-law for an even tougher long-term testing.

That means two dogs, a whirlwind of a three-year-old and twice-daily cleaning runs just to keep the floors from becoming gritty (yet somehow also sticky).

That’s not a gentle life for any robovac, but the X40 Ultra (now nicknamed 'Charge') has handled it better than previous models she's tried, especially when it comes to navigating around toys, clutter and everyday mess while still getting the floors cleaned.

So with that background, you can see why I think Amazon’s current Prime Day deal on the Dreame X40 Ultra is especially tempting.

It’s now down to AU$749 from its RRP of AU$2,799, and while Amazon doesn't often sell it at that full price, the lowest it's dropped previously is AU$1,200. With this Prime Day 2026 deal shaving a further 37% off the latter, this is a genuine steal.

I was impressed by this premium robovac in my Dreame X40 Ultra review, thanks to its thorough cleaning, excellent mapping and clever obstacle avoidance. It can also remove its mop pads when vacuuming carpet, which is still one of its most useful tricks. The dock may still need a little babysitting if it picks up larger debris, but at this Prime Day price the X40 Ultra is excellent value for a high-tech, premium robovac.

My X40 Ultra hasn’t just been through a normal review period. After I finished testing it for my original review, I kept it running for a full year, then passed it on to my sister-in-law’s house once I needed space for testing the latest models.

That long term stress test has become a very useful measure of how it handles everyday family life. While the X40 had to dodge an inquisitive Great Dane at my place, its new home is much larger, and has two dogs and a three-year-old to contend with, so the X40 Ultra has its work cut out for it.

It's a home of laughter and fun, so through the day there are always toys underfoot, crumbs multiplying in the corners and a pet-hair carpet forming faster than should be possible.

But that’s where the Dreame impressed me most. The X40 Ultra can identify clutter, steer around it and still get on with vacuuming and mopping rather than getting stuck or giving up.

Now, it isn’t flawless. It still occasionally gets hung up on a rogue toy, and it’s sucked up the odd thing it probably shouldn’t have, but overall it’s coped with a chaotic floor situation better than I expected.

I make sure to say hello and check in on it during family dinners, taking a few minutes to give it a deeper clean and make sure all the moving parts are still in good shape.

Impressively, the consumables like the brushes are wearing more slowly than expected, even with relatively heavy use.

The X40 Ultra is good at keeping hard floors looking clean without needing constant attention, and its ability to wash out its mop pads while cleaning, combined with its prowess at dodging around everyday mess, is what makes it feel genuinely helpful rather than just another appliance that needs managing.

The base station suction is still the main weakness, as larger debris can cause a clog when the dock empties the onboard bin, but setting it to empty more frequently helps. Replacement dust bags are an ongoing cost, though buying in bulk keeps that manageable.

Of course, the price is the main reason this Prime Day deal is worth taking seriously.

The X40 Ultra still carries an Australian RRP of AU$2,799, and while it’s been dropped to around AU$1,200 multiple times on Amazon since release, the current AU$749 discount is the lowest price I’ve seen for it yet.

And that makes the Dreame X40 Ultra a Prime Day robovac deal I’m happy to recommend.
