One of the biggest benefits of owning Google made phones is being first in line for the new software, and if you own a Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL the wait won’t be long until the official release of Android O.
According to David Ruddock, managing editor at Android Police, the Google Pixel will see the update to Android O during the first two weeks of August 2017.
We would assume that means both the Google Pixel and Pixel XL will see the update at the same time. It comes a touch earlier than we would have anticipated considering the existing Nexus devices got the Android 7 update at the end of August last year.
The official OTA to Android O for Pixel will likely drop in the first week or two of August. A bit earlier than Nexuses / Nougat last year.June 6, 2017
Sooner than last year
Ruddock makes clear the information comes from a reliable source but may be subject to change at a later date. It does mean Google may push back the release of Android O from there.
But if the software is launching earlier for Google branded devices this year, it may be third-party Android manufacturers will be able to work on getting updates to other phones earlier.
The leak doesn't clear up whether older Nexus devices or the Google Pixel C will see the upgrade to Android O at the same time though.
