The Acer Liquid: hands on review

<>

We've heard for a while the Acer has been planning to release an Android phone, but the news that the new Liquid will be the most powerful on the market is news to our ears.

For so long we've been reading complaints on user forums about cool new Windows Mobile-powered phones, with most of them calling for it to run Android instead to make use of the awesome hardware.

But the good news is, with Android 1.6 on the way, the scope for improved hardware is much larger and Acer has wasted no time making use of this.

Not only coming in a range of colours (white, red and black, though we bet they're called Dream white, Danger red and Velvet black when the launch happens) the chassis is also slightly different in that it's more curved, although does bear a strong resemblance to the Windows Mobile range from the manufacturer.

The phone is bright and vivid with a responsive touchscreen, which obviously bodes well. We couldn't see how much better the resolution is from the home screen display, and unfortunately there were no videos on board to check it out.

It carries both a microUSB slot (nice) and a 3.5mm headphone jack (making the Spotify application even more appealing), so Acer has clearly worked out what's needed on a phone like this.

4. It's good to see more competition arriving in the mobile phone market. Mainly because it keeps the others on their toes.

Okay so some iPhone people will bash the device without seeing it our using it but that's life I suppose. People bash iPhones in the same manner.

Roll on the competition it can only be good for us, the consumer.

On a personal note I say open source should be the future. Not the most popular opinion but hey it is just an opinion.

3. Firstly, how can the iPhone be the future when it's here now?

Secondly, why do I get the feeling you've recently bought an iPhone and are a bit miffed that you can't buy into new technology as it marches on?

1. Strange how it feels so dated. The Acer is like the 90s and iphone the future.
