- Smeg has launched two new combi microwaves: the MOC01 and MOC02
- The MOC01 has microwave and grill options, with multi-stage cooking
- The more versatile MOC02 also offers air fryer and fan oven modes
Smeg has just launched a combination microwave, air fryer, fan oven, and grill that can prepare virtually any dish — and looks great while doing it. The Italian company is well known for its stylish appliances, including its iconic retro refrigerators, and the new MOC02 combi microwave is no exception. With sleek lines and a choice of four colors (matt black, white, emerald green, and storm blue), it would look perfect alongside kitchen gadgets like the BCC13 coffee maker, which received a full five stars in my review.
The MOC02 combi can do everything from defrosting frozen meals to cooking crispy chicken wings. Better yet, you can use multi-stage cooking to switch from one mode to another. For example, you could use microwave mode to quickly bake a potato, then switch to air fryer mode to crisp the skin once the inside is soft.
According to Smeg, the MOC02's fan oven mode uses microwave energy in addition to convection, enabling it to cook food much faster than a regular oven, cooking a salmon fillet to flaky perfection in just 10 minutes. It's available today direct from Smeg's online store for £449.95 (about $600 / AU$850).
If you don't need all of the MOC02's cooking functions, there's also a new microwave and grill combo, the MOC01, which has the same stylish looks but without the air fryer and fan oven functionality. Its multi-stage cooking makes it particularly good for dishes like pasta bakes that need crisping on top after cooking.
The Smeg MOC01 is on sale now from Smeg's online store and third-party retailers for £349.95 (about $500 / AU$700).
If your budget won't quite stretch that far, take a look at my full roundup of the best air fryers I've tested in the last few months, which includes some more affordable combi cooker options like the Ninja 5-in-1 Grill and Air Fryer. Also consider the Smeg Combi Steam Oven, which offers air frying, convection cooking, and steaming all in one appliance, without a microwave option.
