Cyber Monday 2021: what to expect

This year's Cyber Monday deals 2021 are due to fall on November 29th this year. That's still a way off still, but trust us - it's definitely worth getting prepared ahead of time.

As one of the biggest sales events of the year, this year's Cyber Monday deals are going to feature any number of huge discounts on everything from TVs and laptops to mattresses and appliances - many of which may be at their lowest prices all year.

We've covered this excellent sales event for many years now, so not only do we have a ton of expert tips to share, but we can tell you exactly what to expect. Regardless of what's on your shopping list, you'll find useful tips on this page with key dates, retailers, and expert research on which categories get the best sales. You'll also find a quick selection of last year's best Cyber Monday deals, should you be interested.

Alongside the more well-known Black Friday deals, Cyber Monday forms a bookend to the greater 'Holiday sales' period. It's essentially retail's biggest one-two punch of the year and easily the best chance to save some serious bucks on both big purchases and gifts for loved ones. Because comparisons are very easy to draw, you'll find a quick and easy 101 on how these sales differ in this article too.

The biggest sale of the year? It's likely

In terms of sheer consumer spend, the Cyber Monday sales event actually exceeds the more well-known Black Friday sales. According to Adobe's yearly shopping insights report (also reported by Statista), retailers reported a whopping $10.8 billion in overall revenue on Cyber Monday versus Black Friday's $9.0 billion.

Surprising? Not according to either source. Both pin the 'fear of missing out' as the deciding factor in an increased consumer spend on Cyber Monday, with 7pm to 11pm Pacific time being the 'golden hour' of revenue. Being on the tail end of the larger 'Holiday sales' period can mean last-minute purchases on Cyber Monday. However, don't feel rushed or pressured into making a sub-par purchase on the day. Instead, let's get prepared and ready for what's to come.

Cyber Monday deals 2021: FAQ

When is Cyber Monday 2021?

Cyber Monday 2021 will fall on November, 29. It's directly following Black Friday (26th), which in turn follows the prior Thanksgiving holiday (25th).

We do, however, expect most retailers to launch their Cyber Monday deals a little earlier over the weekend or carry over promotions from Black Friday. Generally, retailers don't update their site with Cyber Monday branding until first thing Monday AM although it's not uncommon to see a 'taster' deals on the prior Saturday or Sunday. That said, it's still likely the best deals will be concentrated on Monday proper.

Another fairly common occurrence in recent years is retailers extending their one-day sale out into a larger 'Cyber week sale'. While interest does tend to quickly dissipate after Monday, it's likely there will be plenty of excellent holdout sales to check out in the first few days of December.

Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?

In short, no - Cyber Monday and Black Friday should feature deals of similar quality. This could vary depending on what items you're looking to pick up, however.

According to an interview conducted by Business Insider, Steve Koenig of the  Consumer Technology Association stated that "Black Friday equals big-ticket items" and that "many [people's] purchases end up being for themselves or their own households"., in a similar article, specifically narrowed down deals on TVs, toys, gaming consoles, and appliances as being better on Black Friday, whereas Cyber Monday was better for deals on laptops, clothing, and travel.

Our own experience is that Cyber Monday deals are generally a continuation of the prior Black Friday sales, both in width and content. Since Black Friday comes first, you can expect retailers to start strong by offering those 'big ticket' items for sale. Things like games consoles or other highly sought-after items are likely to sell out extremely quickly, so you'll want to keep your eye out over Black Friday for those. That said, it's worth noting that the vast majority of deals do not sell out over either sales event. Cyber Monday deals on things like cheap laptops, TVs, clothing, and appliances will all still be fantastic and in some cases could possibly exceed those offered on Black Friday.

Cyber Monday 2021: the deals we expect to see

  • Laptops - discounted MacBook Airs, Dell XPS 13, Chromebooks, Ultrabooks
  • TVs - cheap 4K TVs from Amazon, LG OLED TVs, Samsung QLED TVs
  • Tablets - potentially lowest prices yet on M1 iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad 10.2
  • Smartwatches - again, lowest prices yet on Apple Watch 6 and SE
  • Games consoles - No PS5 / Xbox Series X, but Nintendo Switch likely
  • Headphones - AirPods, Sony WH-1000xm4, Galaxy Buds, all on sale
  • Phones - iPhone 13 and 12, Galaxy S21 unlocked, big Verizon deals
  • Cameras - Nikon, Sony, and Canon DLSRs and mirrorless cameras
  • Appliances - big sales on vacuums, air fryers, multi-cookers, instant pots

  • Smart home - cheap Amazon Alexa devices, plus Google Nest

Laptops, TVs, tablets, smartwatches, phones, appliances, and even mattresses all had amazing Cyber Monday deals last year, and we're expecting more of the same for 2021.

So far this year we've seen new iPads, new Samsung Galaxy phones, and brand new 11th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 laptops. Without a doubt all of these items will have hefty price cuts on Cyber Monday and perhaps even the lowest prices all year.

By November, we should also have the new iPhone 13 too and potentially even a brand new Apple MacBook Pro too, which could see their first price cuts over Cyber Monday.

How do I get the best Cyber Monday deals in 2021?

First thing's first, we'll be rounding up all the best Cyber Monday deals right here on this page, so if you want an easy-to-navigate index of expert recommendations, just simply bookmark this page and revisit.

Regardless of whether you'll be flying solo or not, however, we do still have some tips to help score the best possible Cyber Monday deals.

1. Check in early
As with the prior Black Friday deals (which happen the Friday before Cyber Monday), we always recommend checking in early to see what's on sale. While it's not always a case of the 'early bird gets the worm', there are sometimes flash sales on sites like Amazon which are available for a limited time and in limited quantities. It's also likely that a lot of the best deals from Black Friday will spill over into the weekend too, so it's always worth it keeping an eye on things on Saturday and Sunday.

2. Know what you're looking for
We'd definitely recommend drawing up some sort of basic shopping list or a list of requirements well before Cyber Monday lands. For example, if you're looking for gifts then shortlist a number of options based on personal research. If you're looking for something like a 4K TV, set your budget, determine what size you need, and do a bit of reading in regards to brands and features. Similarly, with laptops you should think about what kind of specs and power you'll need and visit sites like Dell and HP beforehand to gauge what they're likely to offer on the day.

3. Be prepared to buy alternatives
Following on from our second tip, we'd also recommend keeping an open mind in regards to what's exactly going to be on sale. You may have a crystal picture of the exact laptop you want to buy beforehand but find it's not as heavily reduced as another similar choice. In this case, it's often best to be brand-agnostic if you want to bag the best Cyber Monday deals.

Which retailers have the best Cyber Monday deals

We've already mentioned their names in this article: Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy and others and there's reason to check these places first. They often have the steepest price cuts among US retailers.

However, these major American stores aren't the only places to keep tabs on during Cyber Monday. We've personally snagged great deals from smaller outlets like B&H Photo, and non-techie chains like Kohl's, Macy's and Staples. You can also find deals directly from many retailers, including Apple, Samsung, and DJI, too.

That's a lot of stores, so we're going to amass a list of the best retail websites to check out shortly ahead of the Cyber Monday date of November 29.

Best Buy Cyber Monday deals
Best Buy's big Cyber Monday deals from 2020 featured massive price cuts on TVs, FitBits, Chromebooks, and even coffee machines. We're expecting them to go big in 2021 again, however, they also run weekly sales events too, which are really worth checking out in the meantime.

Amazon Cyber Monday deals
Amazon had amazing deals on Echo devices, electronics, fashion, health, and beauty in particular last year, including some of the biggest price cuts of the year. It'll of course be back with the Cyber Monday 2021 deals, although it always has plenty to check out each day thanks to its daily deals section.

Walmart Cyber Monday deals
Walmart did Cyber Monday properly last year by not just simply offering continuation sales from Black Friday. We saw some great prices on 4K TVs, pressure cookers, Chromebooks, and headphones in particular. Its selection wasn't quite as big as Amazon's or Best Buy's, but what it did have on sale was absolutely fantastic.

Dell Cyber Monday deals
Dell's Cyber Monday deals featured huge price cuts of up to 30% off premium and budget machines alike and we're expecting its 2021 sales to be just as good. Alienware and XPS machines were particularly good, although we expect there'll be great sales on Inspiron, G3 machines, and even Chromebooks too.

Apple Cyber Monday deals
Apple tends to run a gift card scheme rather than offering outright sales over Cyber Monday. We expect them to do something pretty similar with 2021, so if you're looking for Apple deals, we recommend you check out the likes of Amazon and Best Buy first.
