Is LifeLock too complex for most users?
Identity Theft Protection is easier than it sounds
Antivirus software, threat detection, and identity theft protection services may sound complex at first glance, but often, these softwares and services are designed to be user-friendly. And LifeLock is no different.
All LifeLock plans provide identity theft protection. Here’s what you need to know:
tl;dr
- The three plans provide a lot of the same services, but the Advanced and Total plans cover more accounts with higher insurance limits
- LifeLock includes proactive identity monitoring systems, which do the work for you
- LifeLock comes with an AI assistant and 24/7 phone line assistance in case of emergency
The coverage tiers aren’t as confusing as they seem
LifeLock has three coverage levels, but most of LifeLock’s services are shared across all levels of coverage, from the Core plan all the way up to the Total package. The main difference is the number of accounts (checking, savings, 401(k), investment accounts, properties, etc.) that are covered under each tier.
Under the LifeLock Core plan, you get many of the same identity theft and fraud protections as the higher tiers. However, the Core plan covers just two bank accounts. The Advanced plan increases the account total to five accounts, while the Total plan will cover any and all accounts you have.
Essentially, the Core plan is ideal for those with a simple checking and savings account, like college students or early career professionals. The Advanced plan is better for people with multiple checking and savings accounts, CDs, and credit accounts, such as mid-career professionals and couples. The Total plan is ideal for those with multiple bank accounts, a 401(k), property, and/or investment accounts.
Simply pick the level of coverage that best suits your banking needs, and you’re set.
Let LifeLock do the work for you with customizable activity alerts
LifeLock’s plans come with proactive account, credit, and dark web monitoring to alert you of any potential breaches or suspicious activity that could be fraudulent. All you have to do is set up your LifeLock service, including the details for your bank and investment accounts and your identifying information (such as your Social Security number), and let LifeLock’s AI-powered monitoring systems do the day-to-day monitoring for you. You can even customize these activity alerts, so you're able to fine tune the experience.
LifeLock also offers an AI-powered card-shield that can identify merchants that may be storing your card data and help you remove any stored cards.
While you will need to get involved should an identity breach or fraud be detected on your accounts, monitoring your account and identity is off your hands. Even reporting fraud, identity theft, or a scam to LifeLock isn't particularly complicated. The service has a variety of tools to get you back on track.
Assistance when you need it
LifeLock offers a comprehensive online help center and 24/7 phone-line assistance for LifeLock members on all subscription tiers.
LifeLock also offers an AI assistant to help triage any account alerts and answer common questions about scam prevention. So you’ve got a virtual second set of eyes to help you avoid scams.
And should you need to report a case of identity theft, LifeLock will connect you with an identity theft expert who will guide you the whole way through the recovery process.
What does it cost?
LifeLock’s multiple tiers are designed to be affordable, and each offers a different level of coverage.
The LifeLock Core plan costs $12.49 monthly or $124.99 annually. If you go for the annual payment plan, that's $10.42 a month, saving you $24 a year. That’s not a lot to pay for extra security for your bank accounts, AI-powered scam protection, and identity theft protection.
The Advanced plan costs $19.99 monthly or $199.99 a year (only $16.67 a month), while the Total plan costs $34.99 monthly or $349.99 annually (only $29.17 a month).
Ultimately, even the Total plan’s $29.17 a month isn’t a lot of money considering the costs of falling victim to a scam without any detection or reimbursement services. And since most of LifeLock’s core services include proactive monitoring of your accounts, you just need to set up your coverage and let LifeLock do the work for you.
And if things do go sideways, you have AI-powered assistance and 24/7 phone service to help get everything under control.
