The OnePlus 12 is one of the next Android flagship phones we’re expecting to see and it might be worth waiting for, as the latest leak suggests it will be a major upgrade over the OnePlus 11 in at least two areas.

According to reputable leaker Digital Chat Station writing on Weibo (via GSMArena), the OnePlus 12 will have 50W wireless charging, while the OnePlus 11 doesn’t support wireless charging at all. The company’s current flagship is one of few high-end phones not to offer wireless charging, but at 50W speeds the OnePlus 12 wouldn’t just be in line with the competition, it would leapfrog them.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max both support 15W wireless charging, while the Pixel 8 Pro can be wirelessly charged at 23W. Now, some phones do offer 50W wireless charging already, such as the Xiaomi 12s Ultra, but these are rare.

So if this leak is accurate this would be a big win for the OnePlus 12, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard 50W wireless charging mentioned for the OnePlus 12, so there’s a high chance this is correct.

More megapixels and longer zoom

That’s not the only significant upgrade we might see either, with the same source claiming that this phone will have a “high-quality periscope” camera. They don’t get more specific than that, but previous leaks have suggested the OnePlus 12 will have a 64MP periscope camera offering 3x optical zoom.

Now, 3x zoom isn’t anything remarkable when Apple and Google are offering 5x, and Samsung can reach 10x, But it's further than the 2x optical zoom of the OnePlus 11, and 64 megapixels is a lot more than the 32 offered by the current phone’s telephoto camera.

So while the OnePlus 12 might not top our list of the best camera phones it could be a hefty improvement on the current model.

This leak also included some other small details, such as the use of the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset (which was always expected), the inclusion of an IR blaster, and USB 3.2, up from USB 2.0 on the OnePlus 11.

Between these and previous leaks, which have pointed to improved water resistance, 24GB of RAM, and a very bright screen, the OnePlus 12 could well be one of the very best phones of 2024. Though while its global launch will probably be in early 2024, it might land in China as soon as December 2023, so there’s probably not long to wait.
