AT&T confirms plans to strap on the LG G Watch R

LG and AT&T go full circle

LG G Watch R

The LG G Watch R will soon be available from US carrier AT&T.

The circular Android Wear smartwatch is LG's attempt to compete directly with Motorola and its Moto 360, despite the Apple Watch and others going square.

It's a huge upgrade from the standard LG G Watch, which failed to impress, despite launching just a few months ago in July.

LG said recently that the G Watch R will be available globally starting in October or November, so it should be a matter of days before AT&T announces more details, including pricing and release date.

Watch under pressure

The LG G Watch R has stiff competition, but its sleek design and competitive specs have helped it stand out ahead of launch.

The LG G Watch R sports a 320 x 320 1.3-inch circular P-OLED display, 512MB of memory and 4GB of storage.

Its display is slightly smaller than the Moto 360's, but it's at least a full circle, without the small dead spot that the Moto 360 has at the bottom.

Naturally it also has a variety of sensors, Bluetooth, and a microphone, and it's fully waterproof.
