The best monitors for Xbox Series X in 2024

The best monitors for Xbox Series X are far more than just low-cost TV alternatives. If you're in the market for high refresh rates, a smaller but sharper display, or something much bigger to really show off the capabilities of Microsoft's latest console then there are plenty of great monitors to choose from.

As much as we love some of the best gaming TVs, they can become extremely pricey when you're looking for a 4K resolution and features like a 120Hz refresh rate or high dynamic range (HDR). One of the major strengths of the best monitors for Xbox Series X is that they can offer similar features to high-end TVs for a fraction of the price. Sometimes, you can even find low-cost monitors that have the same size panels that you would see on a TV.

As they are geared towards gaming specifically, you can also get your hands on a range of desirable features like fast-IPS tech, Variable Refresh Rate (or VRR), and accurate HDR that's made with some of the best Xbox Series X games in mind. The Xbox Series X is currently the most powerful home console on the market and a high-quality monitor can help you make full use of those high specs.

If you're an Xbox Series X owner, we also recommend considering something from our list of the best Xbox Series X accessories. Alternatively, pick up one of the best Xbox Series X controllers or any of the best Xbox Series X headsets.

The built-in speakers aren't great
Buy it if

You want a great value package: The Gigabyte M32U packs a super fast 144Hz refresh rate and 4K panel at a very competitive price.

You need lots of connectivity options: Not only do you have plenty of HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort options here, but a wealth of USB ports, too.

Don't buy it if

You don't have external speakers: The speakers inside the Gigabyte M32U just aren't up to the same standard as what you would find on a similar-sized TV or even other gaming monitors.

The Gigabyte M32UC is our top pick for the best monitor for Xbox Series X in 2024. This recommendation mostly comes down to the bargain price of this display. At $799 / £681 (about AU$1,093) this is significantly cheaper than a comparable TV or many other monitors that boast a similar feature set. Here you're getting a full 4K UHD display combined with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate and HDR. Better yet, the display is an immersive curved design - rare for this price range.

In our testing, we found that there was a little tinkering that needed to be done in the display settings in order to make the HDR really pop. A few minutes after getting everything tweaked to our liking, however, we were blown away by the visual fidelity of top titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Forza Horizon 5.  Simply put, the Gigabyte M32UC makes your Xbox games look amazing.

Unfortunately, the built-in speakers, while a commendable inclusion, are one area which isn't exactly going to rival a gaming TV. We recommend pairing this panel with something from our list of the best soundbars or best stereo speakers for a better experience.

Reasons to buy

+

+
Good range of viewing positions
+
Impressive colors

Reasons to avoid

-
Lacks ports
-
Slow response time
Buy it if

You want a cheap 4K display: You simply can't argue with the value here. This is a 4K display at a price point that is normally associated with 1080p or 1440p options.

You appreciate great colors: We were especially impressed with the colors on the Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q. If you want a vibrant display that helps games look their best, this is a fantastic choice.

Don't buy it if

You play lots of competitive games: The 5ms response time of the Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q leaves a lot to be desired. While it is an understandable limitation given the low price, it makes this particular model a poor fit for fast-paced competitive games where response time really matters.

The Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q is our pick for the best budget monitor for Xbox Series X. One of the most affordable 4K gaming monitors on the market, offers high-end specs for a fraction of their usual price. It’s a spacious 28-inch display, with an impressively versatile base that allows for plenty of adjustments. It can tilt, swivel, and pivot with support for both horizontal and portrait viewing offering more movement than even a lot of more premium displays. The built-in speakers are also surprisingly adept and should be perfectly sufficient for most games.

Although the 60Hz refresh rate is lower than the maximum 120Hz refresh rate supported by the Xbox Series X, motion is still perfectly smooth and we think that it’s a worthwhile sacrifice given the low price and how well this display performs in other areas - namely, its impressive vivid colors. Unfortunately, the 4ms response time leaves a lot more to be desired, causing slight stuttering in intense AAA games which is worth bearing in mind if you could potentially afford other options. This is also one of the only monitors on this list which does not feature full VESA-certified HDR, instead opting for the inferior HDR10.

Best big screen monitor for Xbox Series X

Acer Predator CG7

The best for big-screen gaming

Specifications

Screen size: 43-inch
Resolution: 4K
Refresh rate: 120Hz
Ports: 3 x HDMI 2.1
HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 1000

Reasons to buy

+
Huge size
+
Plenty of ports
+
Excellent build quality

Reasons to avoid

-
Premium price tag
-
Too big for most desks
Buy it if

You want to game on a massive display: The Acer Predator CG7 features a huge 43-inch display that's fantastic for capturing all those gorgeous details in AAA single player games.

You use your Xbox Series X for streaming: With its big screen and HDR support, streaming your favorite shows and movies will also look great on this display

Don't buy it if

You lack the desk space: While a huge monitor can sound like a good idea on paper, the Acer Predator CG7 would be far too big for most desks

If you're after an Xbox Series X monitor that truly rivals the size of TV, the Acer Predator CG7 is the best solution for those who can afford it. This is a gigantic 43-inch display which, while cheaper than a similar spec TV, certainly doesn't come cheap. Expect to spend around $1,199.99 / £1,166.80 (roughly AU$1,800) for this model.

In our testing, we found very little to fault with the Acer Predator CG7 from a performance standpoint. Every single game we threw at it, from the frantic firefights of Halo Infinite to the driving action of Forza Horizon 5, looked incredibly sharp and crisp. We also particularly appreciate the abundance of ports here, as the monitor boasts two HDMI 2.1 ports and four USB-3.2 ports.

What's more, the Acer Predator CG7 can mounted on a wall in addition to its included stand meaning that it could be the perfect addition to a living room setup.

Best HDR monitor for Xbox Series X

Gigabyte Aorus FV43U review

Best HDR monitor for vivid colors

Specifications

Screen size: 43-inch
Resolution: 4K
Refresh rate: 120Hz
Ports: 2 x HDMI 2.1
HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 1000

Reasons to buy

+
Huge size
+
Brilliant HDR and backlighting
+
Great in-built speakers

Reasons to avoid

-
Strange port placement
-
Too big for most desks
Buy it if

You want an all-in-one display: The Gigabyte Aorus FV43U is the size of a gaming TV and performs like a monitor, making it ideal for both gaming and media consumption.

You want good HDR support: Few gaming monitors that we have tested can match the depth of colors on offer in the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U.

Don't buy it if

You lack the desk space: Again, a massive 43-inch panel like this is far too large for most desks.

If you're after the very best colors for your Xbox Series X games, then the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U should be on your radar. While some monitors and gaming TVs use an inferior, simulated form of HDR, you're getting the real deal here with full HDR10 support. This means colors in your games will look brighter and more life-like.

Priced at $1,100 / £1,000 / AU$1,699 the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U has a truly premium price tag. It is, however, frequently subject to steep sales so consider keeping an eye out for a bargain. In our testing, we found that the Quantum Dot technology, the 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time made for an experience that few other panels can match even in 2024.

Another major highlight of the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U are the excellent speakers that adorn each side. This stereo setup can truly rival some of the best TVs, saving you money that would otherwise need to be invested in a soundbar or separate speakers. If you're in the market for a big and beautiful display and can afford to shop at the high end of the price scale, you can't go wrong here.

Best high refresh rate monitor for Xbox Series X

Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144

The best high refresh rate monitor

Specifications

Screen size: 32-inch
Resolution: 4K
Refresh rate: 144Hz
Ports: 2 x HDMI 2.1; 1 x DisplayPort 1.4; USB-C
HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 600

Reasons to buy

+
Excellent gaming performance
+
Outstanding color quality
+
Stellar build quality

Reasons to avoid

-
The HDR isn't the greatest
Buy it if

You want the best FPS from your Xbox Series X: The Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 produces an incredibly sharp and detailed 144Hz picture thanks to its fast-IPS panel technology.

You want an adjustable monitor: There are a lot of adjustments that you can make to the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144's excellent stand. This comes alongside other mounting options.

Don't buy it if

The very best HDR is a must: While the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 features acceptable HDR performance, it's far from the best that we've seen from a monitor at this price.

If you're looking to play competitive shooters, racing games, or fighters then the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 is our foremost pick. That's because this 144Hz 4K monitor has one of the sharpest and fastest panels that we've ever tested. Unlike other super fast panels, there is absolutely no hit to the color saturation or the smoothness of the picture here either.

Retailing at $999 / £949, we would be lying if we said the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 was one of the most affordable Xbox Series X monitors but what you're getting is well worth the money. This display boasts unparalleled fluidity that helps push the console's 120Hz capabilities to the absolute limit.

The only major drawback here is the HDR which, as HDR600, is quite underwhelming. It is by no means poor, but a definite step back from some of the other monitors this list. Still, this is an understandable limitation when speed and brightness was clearly the top priority.

FAQs

Should I buy a 120Hz monitor for Xbox Series X?

While you certainly don't need a 120Hz monitor, we think that they are well worth the extra investment. Many of the best Xbox Series X games support a 120Hz refresh rate. Thanks to the console's VRR support, compatible displays also do a better job of smoothing out any framerate hiccups in order to provide a much more stable gaming experience.

Is it worth getting a 4K monitor for Xbox Series X?

In short, yes. There are no shortage of Xbox Series X games that can be played at 4K resolution and the more compact nature of most monitors mean you can easily notice the crisper image. 4K monitors for Xbox Series X will typically be more expensive than, say, a 1440p monitor, but we believe that the added image clarity is well worth it if you have the budget.

Is a 1440p or 4K monitor better for gaming on Xbox Series X?

This really depends on what kind of gaming experience you're looking for. At 4K, games will typically look much better, with the tradeoff of a potential hit to overall performance compared to 1440p.
