Sony Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact specs revealed

Just yesterday we saw a photo seemingly showing the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact and now we have information on its specs, along with those of the larger Sony Xperia XZ2.

Starting with the larger handset, claims that according to an industry source it has a 5.8-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, while the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is said to have a 5-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a FHD+ resolution.

The bezels will apparently be slim enough that the XZ2 Compact will be around the same size as the 4.6-inch Compact handsets of previous generations, such as the Xperia XZ1 Compact, despite the larger screen.

Both phones will apparently use Gorilla Glass 5 to protect their screens, have a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, with a fingerprint scanner on the back and no 3.5mm headphone jack.

The source adds that the standard Xperia XZ2 will have a special music feature that uses vibrations, but it’s not clear how this works or what it does.

Pricey propositions

You’ll apparently be able to buy either handset from March 6, with the Sony Xperia XZ2 expected to retail for 7990 Swedish Kronas (around $985/£710/AU$1,255) and the Xperia XZ2 Compact apparently due to sell for 5990 Swedish Kronas (roughly $740/£530/AU$940).

That would make the standard XZ2 expensive, but potentially slightly cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Of course, for now it’s impossible to know whether any of this is accurate, but none of it sounds unbelievable and we’ve heard some of these specs before. With both phones likely to land at MWC 2018 in the coming days, we should know the truth soon.
