Smartphone maker Realme hosted a mega launch event today in India where the company announced products like Realme GT 2 Pro, Realme 9 4G, Realme Buds Air 3, Realme Book Prime and a streaming stick.

The most prominent device that missed the launch event was the mid-ranger Realme GT 2 smartphone that had accompanied its premium sibling during all the major launch events including China and the global one at MWC.

Right at the fag end of the marathon launch event, Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth announced that the Realme GT 2 is indeed coming to India soon.

While Sheth did not reveal the exact launch date, he revealed the key specifications of the Realme GT 2 and mentioned that the phone will launch in India around during Realme’s 4th Anniversary. The company teased another event on May 4 as its 4th anniversary and there is a chance that the phone might launch on the same day.

The company also announced that it will open its flagship stores in the country and the first such store will be opened in Ahmedabad.

Realme GT 2 – What we already know

Since the phone has already been launched in the international markets, there were speculations that the phone will arrive unchanged in India. During the recently concluded launch event, Madhav Sheth gave us a sneak peek of the key specs of GT 2’s Indian variant.

The Realme GT 2 will come in three colours – Paper White, Paper Green and Steel Black – like its premium sibling. Unlike the GT 2 Pro, the GT 2 will come with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, a similar paper tech design that we saw on the GT 2 Pro, an E4 AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 5000 mAh battery pack with 65W fast charging.

In terms of design, both GT 2 and GT 2 Pro look identical and it’s very difficult to tell both of them apart. Only when you look closely at the rear camera module of the devices, you’d realize the difference. The two primary sensors on the GT 2 Pro are positioned closer while on the vanilla variant there is some text between the two cameras which makes the module rectangular.

In terms of the display size as well, the GT 2 is marginally smaller with a 6.62-inch display compared to the GT 2 Pro which stands tall with a 6.67-inches display.

At a starting price of Rs. 49,999, Realme has priced the GT 2 Pro aggressively in India and we hope that the company follows the same with the Realme GT 2 as well.
