Cheeky students cheat on applications

Students who think they are being clever by copying online examples of applications are not as smart as they think

Internet plagiarism among students has become so rife that thousands of pupils are even cheating on their university applications. Concerns have been raised after hundreds of applications were received by applications body UCAS with curiously similar phrases.

CFL Software Development makes software that detects plagiarism. In a study, it noticed that 800 medical student hopefuls who applied to Oxbridge last year used the same sentences directly copied from three personal statement examples on the internet.
