  1. Humax LGB-19DZT review

    Humax LGB-19DZT review

    8

It's official: hi-def is within everybody's price range. The latest offering from Humax, its 19in LGB-19DZT, crams a HD-ready resolution into a 19in flatscreen, bringing HDTV to your kitchen or bedroom for less than £300. It sounds ideal, doesn't it? Unfortunately, there's one vital reason why we're not completely convinced.

    B&O BeoVision 7-40 review

Whenever a new Bang & Olufsen TV appears, you can be sure its design will be utterly iconic. So it goes with the BeoVision 7-40 - and then some

    Sharp LC-52X20E review

    8

Taking up little space for a 52in TV, the Sharp LC-52X20E’s high-gloss black bezel is just an inch across. It’s also unusually slim around the back, even by LCD standards, and sticks out a mere 94mm. Connections are also bang up to date, and include three HDMI v1.3a inputs, all compatible with Deep Color, and able to take 1080p/24fps from suitable HD players.

    Hannspree XV32 GT review

    8

Some TVs stand out from the crowd with their designs, while others rely on their features. Others use high performance levels to tempt you. The Hannspree XV32 GT, though, goes the classic price route, reeling you in with the promise of 32in of good-looking flatscreen LCD TV for just £400

    Sharp LC46X20E review

    8

On paper the Sharp LC46X20E has the lot: Full HD resolution; novel design; ultra-thin looks; and bountiful connectivity. What can possibly go wrong? Three HDMI (v1.3) inputs kick things off for the Sharp LC46X20E.

    Goodmans LD3261HD review

    6

It comes as little surprise that the build quality of the Goodmans LD3261HD gives away its budget LCD TV status. But overall the Goodmans LD3261HD represents reasonable value for money and is a reasonable way to experience high-definition on a budget

    10

If you're going to call a TV range 'Design Art', you really are raising expectations of something truly spectacular and unlike anything that's been seen before. Which is precisely why our first impression of LG's 32LB75 is one of slight disappointment.

    Samsung LE-52F96BD review

    10

Anyone who knows much about flat TVs is aware that LCD technology has a couple of fundamental problems. This is the first LCD TV in the UK to ditch the old static backlight in favour of an array of light emitting diodes (LEDs).

    LG 37LF75 review

    8

LG's 37LF75 oozes instant appeal on not one but two fronts. First of all there's its extravagant design, which boasts a cutely arced bottom edge and very tasteful barrel-shaped stand connection. Not surprisingly this is one of LG's new Design Art range of TVs.

    Philips 19PFL5602D review

Not many 19in LCDs pass our way these days and even fewer as pretty as this. Philips' TV quashes the notion that anything smaller than 26in is a jumped-up computer monitor with the styling and build quality that entails.

Once a big player on the UK TV market, Sanyo’s influence has rather waned in the face of constant price pressure and huge ranges from so many larger rivals.

With detachable speakers and a £400 price tag, Polaroid is offering something a little different with its LCD (labelled the Definia), but has the all-important picture quality been ignored?

Philips’ technological ambition hasn’t always been matched by perfect pictures, but this time the Dutch company has hit the jackpot. Dressed in an ‘anthracite dark’ gloss, this full HD 42in screen possesses just about every feature you could wish for.

    Hitachi P50-XR01 review

TVs with built-in hard disk recorders are like buses: you wait an absolute eternity for one to arrive and then loads turn up at once. Hot on the heels of Loewe's Individual Compose 40 comes Hitachi's new giant, the P50-XR01, complete with 250GB hard-disk drive.

Although it's done just about enough to sneak the occasional victory in one or two recent LCD group tests, Toshiba's range hasn't advanced quite as far from its predecessors as we might have hoped.

    Fujitsu P55XHA51WSB review

    6

Plasma pioneer Fujitsu is the brand of choice for most of the custom install industry. By positioning itself away from the hurly-burly of most TV high-street action, it's managed to protect itself from the chaos of falling prices. But a consequence is that it's probably not the first brand most of us think of when we think PDP - a shame, as Fujitsu has produced some very nice displays over the years.

    HANNspree JT01-32E2 review

    6

HANNspree has a decent reputation for affordable digital gear and this is its latest attempt to crack the budget LCD market. The JT01-32E2-000G also goes by the slightly more manageable 'XV32' designation, and is admirably well specified given its price, with an HD Ready resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels and a brace of HDMI inputs chief among its assets.

    Hitachi 37LD9700 review

Hitachi has always been better known for its top-class plasma screens than for LCD TVs, but the Japanese company has put a great deal of effort into developing this 37in HD-ready model.

Having recently returned from the ‘world’s largest’ consumer electronics show, where I observed a selection of self-styled ‘world’s largest’ flatscreen TVs, I have an embarrassing secret to reveal. When I first laid my eyes on this 65in plasma there was a brief moment when I thought, ‘what a tiddly telly’.

The HANNSvibe is so quintessentially 1960s in appearance we were expecting to see images of the Fab Four flickering in the Test Labs, along with a 60s 007.
