Starfield's May update finally adds 60fps on Xbox Series X with new display settings feature
The update goes live on May 15
Bethesda Game Studios has released the details for Starfield's next major update.
Version 1.11.33 - which will arrive just in time for the game's first post-launch expansion Shattered Space set for later this year - is currently available in Steam Beta will official go live on PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 15, and is perhaps the most notable update to arrive since the game's launch in September.
With this patch, Bethesda has introduced a ton of new quality-of-life improvements, including the highly-requested improved surface maps which will allow players to see location markers in towns and cities.
"We’ve heard your feedback, and we’ve made some big improvements to surface maps, so you’ll always know just where to go and no longer 'get lost' on the way to your parents’ place (and they weren’t buying that excuse anyway, you should really go visit them)," Bethesda said in the patch notes.
With the current state of Starfield, the game is locked to 30FPS on Xbox Series X|S, however, with the upcoming update, players will be able to choose between two new display settings - Visuals or Performance.

"We’ve heard from many that you’d like to have more control over the graphic fidelity and performance on Xbox, similar to how PC players can customize their experience," Bethesda said.
"We’re now enabling that on Xbox Series X with a few options that you can use to find the best fit for your playstyle and display."

The feature is only available on Xbox Series X and will allow users to choose between 30fps, 40fps, 60fps, or an uncapped framerate on Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) displays. If players don't have a VRR-capable display, they'll still be able to select from 30fps or 60fps.
Starfield will also receive new gameplay options for those "who like a bit of an extra challenge or want to make some aspects of the game easier", a new Ship Decoration mode for ship interiors, an added 'Tabs' feature to Container menus to better manage inventory, as well as the ability to change traits and appearances after entering the Unity.
