Sony has announced a raft of PlayStation price hikes, increasing the cost of everything from the base PlayStation 5 to the hugely popular PlayStation Portal accessory.

The PS Portal is set to rocket up in cost by $50 / £20, to $249.99 / £219.99 rather than the original $199.99 / £199.99. These changes are only set to take effect on April 2, 2026, though, so there might be just a few more days to pick one up at the old rate and save some cash.

For those in the UK, the current best price is over at EE. The telecommunications giant has the PS Portal on sale right now, priced at only £190 (was £199), for a total saving of £29.99 compared to the upcoming price.

Right now the best place to buy a PS Portal in the US is from PlayStation themselves. There seems to be plenty of stock, and the price is still locked in at around $199.99 ahead of that April 2 date.

Those in the UK can actually score a little bit of a saving compared to the old price by heading over to EE. With prices rising on April 2, I would take advantage of this offer while it's still around.

The last time Sony increased the price of its hardware was in August 2025, when it stated that "a challenging economic environment" had led to the "difficult decision" of hiking the cost of PS5 consoles by $50.

This time, the company is blaming "continued pressures in the global economic landscape."

"This was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide," explained Isabelle Tomatis, vice president, global marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
