    Creative Zen Mozaic review

    Creative Zen Mozaic review

    8

As a low-end MP3 player, the Creative Zen Mozaic is worth a look. Despite the American spelling, there really isn't much to dislike about this one, and there's plenty to like.

The MP3 player market is saturated. It has been for years now, with every size, price point and storage benchmark catered for amply. However, when it comes to sound quality, it's hard to find a player that really stands up to be counted. The Creative Zen X-Fi, is the new exception.

Speakers for iPods come two-a-penny these days, but this one caught our attention, mainly because it’s surprisingly good for the price. It also has a clever design that splits into two parts, so you can release the slim speaker from the bass bin section and use it alone on battery power for short trips.

    Zoom H2 review

    Zoom H2 review

    6

Zoom currently offers two products of this nature, the other being the H4 (£225) which has a different set of features. We picked the H2 to review for two reasons: first, it is the cheapest such product currently available, and second, it offers surround sound capability thanks to the inclusion of four internal microphones.

    Tascam DR-1 review

    8

Tascam is a brand name exclusively associated with studio and pro equipment, though it’s actually the same company as TEAC. It specialises in the value end of the recording market and has plenty of experience with recording devices including CDiR, MiniDisc (yes, still!) and solid-state.

Alongside the familiar home electronics, Marantz does a nifty line of professional and semi-pro recording and replay kit, including several solid-state recorders, of which this is the smallest.

    iTrip Auto SmartScan review

We’re not going to beat around the bush: this update to Griffin’s iTrip is the best in-car FM transmitter for iPods and iPhones that we know of. It blew us away with some excellent qualities.
