TechRadar Verdict
The FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 is a cost-friendly and comfortable office chair that has plenty of adjustable features to maximise comfort. My size meant I wasn’t strong enough to make full use of the recline or broad enough to use the armrests while typing, but nonetheless, I found the BS14 to be a considerable upgrade to the chairs I was using at work and in my home office, helping me to keep a better posture and feel more comfortable while I’m working long hours at my desk.

FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14: One-minute review
The FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 is a highly adjustable and pleasingly comfortable office chair that offers a lot for the price, so much that I can see it being a contender for a spot in our selection of the best office chairs in the near future. It can be purchased from the FlexiSpot website, with the list price varying depending on the colour, costing £359.99 for black or £379.99 for grey. It didn’t take me too long to assemble the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14, although I needed help when it came to lifting the fully assembled seat onto the base.
I like the look of the grey BS14; it doesn’t look out of place in the TechRadar Reviews office, and would suit a home office space too. The mesh fabric has stayed in good condition after four months of regular use, but the white plastic five-star base has become badly scuffed and marked from my shoes. In terms of movement, I found the smooth casters made it surprisingly easy to manoeuvre across low-pile carpet, despite the BS14 being a little on the heavier side.
There are a bunch of adjustable elements to fine-tune on the BS14, including the seat’s height, tilt, and depth, and the position of the integrated lumbar support, headrest, and multi-functional armrests. While the BS14 isn’t an obvious choice for one of the best gaming chairs, the level of support it provides, combined with the recline angle of up to 125 degrees, would make it a good middle ground if your workstation happens to double as your game centre.
Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to office chairs, even ones with this level of customisation, so if you happen to be shorter than average like me (I’m 5ft 2in), you may want to look for a chair designed for smaller frames like the one I recommend in the also consider section below. Overall, though, I’ve been really pleased with the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14, as it offers a good amount of adjustments for the cost, to the point where I’d genuinely consider purchasing one for my home office – if only it came in pink!

FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 review: Assembly
The process of assembling the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 was simple and easy to follow. All fixings were sectioned and clearly labelled and only one tool was required for assembly, which was also included. The casters needed a fair bit of persuasion to clip into place, but I encountered no issues with misalignment when screwing in the bolts for the rest of the chair. I had to get a bit creative and prop to chair seat on the box to screw the back of the chair in place, and needed some assistance to lift the completed chair onto the base, so I’d recommend roping in another person to help if you’re not used to lifting heavy weights.
FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 review: Design and aesthetics
- Durable mesh fabric
- Easy movement
- Cheap-looking plastic
The FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 has a simple, modern aesthetic that wouldn’t look out of place in a corporate office or a home office. It comes in a choice of black or grey; the former is entirely black, but the grey model has white and black elements. The seat, backrest, and headrest are covered in a breathable mesh fabric that, after four months of regular use, has proven pretty durable and wear-resistant so far.
The plastic used in the rest of the seat and armrests has proven durable so far, too, although it looks a little on the cheap side upon close inspection. Where the plastic hasn’t fared so well is the five-star foot, as the white colouring of the grey model I’ve been testing has become marked from my shoes over time. All that said, the overall finish is pretty good considering this is a decent ergonomic chair for sub £400.
The BS14 has smooth casters, which FlexiSpot states won’t scratch the floor. I can’t confirm this as a certainty, as I’ve not used the chair on hard flooring, but I can agree that they allow for easy movement across our low-pile office carpet, something that I really appreciate, as some chairs require a lot more effort to move about.
FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 review: Comfort and adjustability
- Great adjustable lumbar support
- Comfortable headrest
- Good level of customisation to maximise comfort
As a shorter-than-average female with dodgy joints who tends to sit in random positions, I’ve found ergonomic chairs uncomfortable in the past, as they weren’t the right size for me. It’s unlikely that a standard-sized office chair is going to meet my every need, but the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 gets pretty close, thanks to its easy-to-adjust features.
The seat can be positioned at a height of between 480 - 560mm, and can be tilted forward by eight degrees, which was my preference. The lumbar support didn’t feel unnatural like some oversized lumbar cushions can feel, and was satisfyingly easy to adjust as I simply needed to reach behind the backrest and shift it up or down until it felt comfortable.
The BS14 features lockable 98 – 125-degree reclining and claims to have snug back tracking, which allows the backrest to move naturally with the body; however, as I’ve found with the majority of office chairs, I was too light to recline without putting my back into it, pardon the pun. So while I can confirm it reclines smoothly, I can’t comment on how natural it feels.
I found the 3D armrests easy to position, and while I appreciated that they were height-adjustable and could be shifted forwards, backwards, inwards, and outwards, it would be nice if I had the option to rotate the armrests so that my arms could remain supported as I type on my keyboard, as the chair was too wide for me. The headrest was easy to position and overall very comfortable, though I’m afraid I must disagree with FlexiSpot that the fabric is soft-to-the-touch, as I found it felt a bit rough on the back of my neck.
Overall, the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14 ticks a lot of boxes thanks to its decent range of adjustable elements. The foam seat pad was comfortable to sit on for hours at a time, and the lumbar support and headrest helped me to relax a little as I worked while still helping me maintain a better posture.
Should I buy the FlexiSpot Ergonomic Office Chair BS14?
Buy it if…
You want a high level of customisation
There are plenty of settings to play with on the BS14, so it’s easy to set it up according to your preferences. The adjustable lumber support is particularly handy, as it’s built into the chair and satisfyingly simple to adjust, making fiddly clip-on cushions a thing of the past.
You want easy manoeuvrability
I can’t say I’ve ever been impressed with a set of casters before, but the smooth design of the ones on the BS14 makes it really easy to wheel the chair around. I haven’t encountered any issues with the casters sticking in the four months I’ve been using them.
Don't buy it if…
You want a high-end aesthetic
The design of the BS14 is perfectly fine for the price, and it’s only upon closer scrutiny that I spotted the cheapness of the materials, but if you want better quality materials with a nicer finish, you may need to increase your budget a little.
You’re a petite person
Although the BS14 is perfectly usable as far as standard-sized office chairs go, if you’re a smaller and lighter-than-average individual who would like a chair that offers continuous elbow support and can be reclined easily, the BS14 probably isn’t the chair for you.
