Here are my favorite Dell laptops for all business sizes
Choosing a new fleet of laptops is always challenging. How do you meet the needs of every user and department across your business, and stay within budget doing it?
Dell has an impressive collection of laptops across its business-focused Dell Pro line, each suitable for specific employees and specialist roles.
Dell Pro Premium vs. Dell Pro Plus
The top tier laptop in the Dell Pro range, the Dell Pro Premium, comes equipped for everything, boasting Copilot+ AI assistance and an aesthetically pleasing and lightweight 90% recycled magnesium chassis. With 21.2 hours maximum battery life, it’s the laptop for the executives, the creatives, and the enterprise professionals.
Dell laptops offer displays with high-quality, crisp visuals in a wide variety of resolutions to suit your needs. The Dell Pro Premium has 13 and 14-inch models; the Dell Pro Premium has a Tandem OLED display option, 24% more power efficient, and 49% lighter than a standard OLED.
Meanwhile, the Dell Pro Plus is almost as suited to hardcore computing. While both the Dell Pro Premium and Dell Pro Plus have the Intel Core Ultra 200V CPU, the Dell Pro Plus also offers AMD Ryzen AI PRO 300 processors.
Whichever model you choose, using Dell laptops together with Windows 11 Pro is wise for business use, and Dell offers excellent warranty and support options.
TL;DR: While the Dell Pro Plus is a capable laptop suitable for managers, the Dell Pro Premium has everything executives and genuine power users need.
Dell Pro Plus vs. Dell Pro
The Dell Pro Plus, with 13, 14, and 16-inch editions, is superior to the Dell Pro, but how different are they, really?
Dell's hardware is the ideal pairing for powerful Intel Core processors that use the trio of a CPU, GPU and NPU to create a seamless AI-driven experience. If you need a fast, AI-equipped laptop but don’t have the budget for the Dell Pro Premium, a Dell Pro Plus is the smart option, with up to 18 hours of battery life. It doesn’t look too bad either, with an aluminum body.
The Dell Pro Plus is particularly suited to medium-sized firms, with a focus on design and engineering. It has the necessary specification to deliver the processing power necessary for specialized applications and roles.
Conversely, the very capable Dell Pro isn’t quite suited to handling the same level of dedicated use, and is more of a portable, general workhorse.
TL;DR: In short, if you’re using a Dell Pro, your manager is probably using a Dell Pro Plus.
The higher-specced Dell Pro Plus has an aluminum chassis and scalable configuration choices, which contribute to a more premium experience than with the Dell Pro.
Dell Pro Premium vs. Dell Pro
With a Dell Pro Premium, you can do more in less time with on-device AI that works seamlessly and efficiently -- without draining your battery. This is available across the Dell Pro range, but is most noticeable with the Dell Pro Premium
Conversely, the Dell Pro is the perfect laptop for a mobile workforce. A Dell Pro is the sweet spot of the Dell Pro range, with options for Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI PRO CPUs, 10-15 hours of battery, and comes in 14 and 16-inch form factors. This is the laptop for the accountants, the office managers, the first line support teams, HR, and the procurement teams. It has everything they need to get the job done.
TL;DR: If a Dell Pro is for the workforce, the Dell Pro Premium is for the leaders and the executive suite. It’s also useful for mobile professionals, such as senior IT engineers, designers, and anyone requiring demanding AI.
Dell Pro Premium vs. Dell Pro Essential
While comparing the top tier with the budget option might seem unfair, these laptops share key features, both in terms of hardware and features. But they retain similarities, beyond the Dell Pro name. Across the range, Dell laptops are both slim and light, and are tested to ensure exceptional durability. This is as true of the top-tier laptop as it is of the budget option.
The Dell Pro Essential is a smart laptop for small teams in companies with limited budgets, and is ideal for admin-heavy roles. AI (AMD AI PRO with built-in NPU) is optional with this model, which has up to 15 hours of battery life and like the rest of the range, MIL-STD 810H standard durability.
Further, the Essential shares other aspects with the Dell Pro range. Most significantly, all laptops have Dell ProSupport, an AI-drive proactive technical support plan. This uses AI-based remediation for self-healing, records telemetry data, and can automatically boot into a stable image after a system failure. Dell ProSupport Plus covers physical damage to laptops.
Beyond the support options for IT teams and remote workers offered in the Dell ProDeploy Client Suite, Dell also offers simple, centralized manageability of its laptops. There is also the device as a service option, APEX PcaaS, a subscription to Dell’s hardware, software, and services, offered with a budgetable, predictable monthly outlay that Dell offers as a fast track to AI transformation.
TL;DR: The Dell Pro Essential is ideal for a fleet of laptops in a small business with a low IT budget. It’s also useful for narrow use propositions in larger organizations – e.g. junior office administrators, or anyone covering general clerical tasks, and features Dell’s Pro-level support and basic management options for stress-free management and deployment.
