Turn any location into an office with ASUS travel routers and portable monitors
Hybrid working is no longer on the side-lines, but it needs the right tools to thrive
Working away from your desk has historically always come with compromises that hampered productivity. Patchy connectivity, missing out on multi-tasking, and sub-optimal security make it hard to juggle emails, online meetings, Slack messages, and make that last edit to this all-important PDF document.
I know a thing or two about tricky situations as a technology journalist who travelled the world to events and conferences for more than a decade and I understand that sometimes, the airport lounge, the hotel lobby, or even a nearby café can become your temporary work haven for a few hours.
It is hard, though, when you don’t have the right tools like a mini router or a portable monitor.

Enter for a chance to win a portable ASUS travel router. Do the activities on Gleam to enter the giveaway.

The router champ
Take the ASUS RT-BE58 Go, a portable router that allows you to stay secure by relying on your own mobile network rather than the hotel's. It offers the latest WiFi 7 technology, delivering the fastest possible speed, great if you have a laptop like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025).
Piggybacking on your smartphone or external modem for connectivity improves its battery life as the portable router takes care of the local wireless network. Two retractable antennas will significantly improve range and speed compared to just using your phone as a hotspot.
Having two LAN ports (a Gigabit one and a 2.5GbE) opens the door to a wide range of use cases that will appeal to makers, DIYers, and field operators. Connecting your compatible device via a physical port removes the need to capture login details for seamless access.
The presence of a Type-C connector means you can power it using any compatible charger or battery. The ASUS RT-BE58 Pro is clearly designed with businesses in mind: it benefits from WPA3 (enterprise) encryption protocol as well as DNS-over-TLS, a built-in firewall, and security scan.
Extensive VPN support (Surfshark, WireGuard, NordVPN, etc.) enables enhanced privacy features immediately, for any user, while ASUS’s AIProtection adds another layer of security for no additional cost, unlike many competitors.
Being able to accommodate multiple SSIDs is one of the best features the ASUS RT-BE58 Go offers. It means that an entire team (or a flurry of devices) can connect simultaneously, keeping connections separate to reduce congestion and improve security.
And if you need to connect even more devices across multiple teams, you can add more of them as a mesh network and benefit from the same functionality beyond a single device. Think temporary work setups, trade shows, gaming LAN events, emergency locations, field work, content creators, etc.

For smaller setups or solo workers, consider the ASUS RT-AX57 Go or the ASUS RT-AX50 Go. The former delivers most of the features of the ASUS BE58 Go in a more convenient pocket-sized footprint. It still offers Wi-Fi 6 and two LAN ports (both Gigabit) in a much more compact, sleek body. Even more petite is the ASUS AX50 Go, with the footprint of a Rubik's Cube. It loses one Ethernet connection and the enterprise features but keeps the USB ports.

Widening your horizons
Adding a second monitor to your workstation is one of the best ways to improve your productivity. Even Microsoft’s legendary founder, Bill Gates, is a big fan of multiple monitors. So it’s not surprising that portable monitors should be high on the list of remote or hybrid workers as they can supercharge your workflow within seconds.
These come in different sizes, with different feature sets and for different budgets: there’s no one-size-fits-all, so much so that ASUS offers more than 30 of them.
Take the ASUS ZenScreen OLED MQ13AH. It weighs just 490g and has a 13.3-inch OLED screen capable of delivering a wide 100% DCI-P3 gamut and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio—something that creatives will appreciate. Despite its diminutive size, it can support three separate devices and be powered via USB Type-C. A pair of these with the sub-1Kg ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED laptop would provide three screens in all and weigh less than 2Kg.
At the other end of the spectrum is the ASUS ZenScreen Duo MB14FCD, which combines two 14-inch OLED displays into a nifty design. Folded out, it delivers a 20-inch virtual monitor, and it can transform into a tent, a standout for presentations, yet it weighs just over 1Kg.
And to illustrate the versatility of ASUS’s portable monitor range, take a look (pun intended) at the ASUS ZenScreen Go MB16AWP. Not only does it have a battery, but it also has wireless connectivity, which means you can cast content from Android and iPhone devices straight to it. It even has a pair of speakers, should you want to use it as a portable multimedia display for a few hours.
