Most small business owners don't need another chatbot, they need help chasing overdue invoices and answering late-night booking enquiries. If you've been eyeing AI agents for that kind of work, you’ve probably run across a few that fail to sound like you at all or refuse to follow your specific workflows.

Wix Symphony is built around that worry. Its built-in agents cover common business chores, while custom agents take on jobs that are specific to your company. Custom agents are written in your brand voice and bound by your rules. Here's how to get one working for you and keep it on a short leash once it's running.

What is Wix Symphony?

Symphony is a standalone AI agent platform for individuals and small businesses, which Wix launched on August 11, 2026. Rather than just one assistant, it builds a team of specialized agents to complete tasks for your business. A chatbot called Maestro functions as the lead agent and runs the whole operation.

Unlike some agentic AI platforms, Symphony won’t have you commissioning new agents manually. In fact, an AI assistant called Maestro is the only agent you talk to. According to Wix's support documentation, it learns about your business, creates agents around your goals, and delegates work to them. Its agents typically cover outreach, marketing, scheduling, research, finance and design.

You don't need a Wix website to use Symphony either. It runs in a browser and through iOS and Android apps, with a free plan that includes 500 AI credits per month, capped at 100 per day. Budget carefully, though, because some users have reported that it’s possible to burn through your free daily allowance with a two agent job in about 45 minutes.

Wix has also stopped offering its older AI Custom Agent to new accounts since September 2026 and now points all users to Symphony instead. Symphony is now the company's main route to bespoke AI agents — so let’s take a moment to go through how exactly it works.

Symphony by Wix, on mobile and desktop, features multiple AI agents to help grow your business. Annual plans offers 20% off compared to monthly subscriptions. A free plan is also available to get you started.

How to create custom AI agents with Wix Symphony

Symphony has no agent builder in the usual sense, so you won't be filling in forms or dragging blocks around to customize workflows. You simply describe the job to Maestro, which decides whether an existing agent can handle it or whether to “hire” a new custom agent.

You then give Maestro a name and personality for the agent, before finally approving its goals. Mastro will spin up agents built to your specifications and use them to complete tasks according to your rules. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Sign up for Symphony: Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or visit symphony.wix.com in a browser, then tap Get Started. You can sign up with a Gmail address, a social account, or an existing Wix login.
  2. Talk about your business: Maestro asks what your business does, then proposes a starter team of named agents. These might come from its existing collection or it might offer to commission new agents for you.
  3. Connect the right tools: Ask Maestro in chat to connect your inbox, calendar, or other apps — then approve each one on the provider's consent screen. Read the scope carefully first, though, since an email connection that lets agents read your mail usually lets them send it too.
  4. Ask for the agent you want: Describe one recurring job, including who it serves and what a finished result looks like. You may ask for a custom agent with a name and personality or let Maestro decide for you.
  5. Approve the plan: Maestro shows you a summary before any agent starts working, which you review and approve. Edit anything that looks off now, since it's cheaper than fixing the output later. To edit your AI agents, simply describe the changes you’d like to make in plain-English to Maestro.
  6. Check the new agent's profile: Each hired agent gets a name, a role badge and a job. If the job description doesn't match what you meant, tell the chatbot straight away.
  7. Turn repeat work into a routine: Maestro proposes routines for recurring jobs, each with a schedule, next run time, and on/off toggle. Only switch on what you need, because unattended routines eat credits every day.

Configuring custom AI agents to follow your business rules

There's no settings panel in Wix Symphony for an individual agent. Your rules and tone reach agents through conversation with Maestro, with each correction and approval teaching them how you work. What they learn is stored where you can inspect it.

  • Teach tone by example: Tap the Plus icon in chat to attach a few emails you've written, then explain what you like about them and which phrases you avoid. Web designers like Olya Black recommend this over describing your voice in adjectives.
  • State hard rules in plain sentences: Instructions like "draft replies but never send" work well. Remember it's an instruction rather than a permission lock, because the connected inbox still allows sending.
  • Explain your decision logic: Walk Maestro through how to rank a lead or when a complaint needs your attention. Wix's own example is a custom agent that qualifies enquiries against a company's exact criteria.
  • Audit the Agent Knowledge screen: This screen stores what your agents have learned about your preferences, plans and people, sorted into categories. Use its edit button to fix anything they've got wrong before it spreads into future work.
  • Correct mistakes in conversation: When a draft misses the mark, tell Maestro. Knowing exactly what to change will help it do a better job in the future. Start with one task and retest after each correction before adding more.
  • Keep approvals on customer-facing work: Symphony checks with you before agents act on anything significant, sending approval requests to your phone. Treat those early approvals as training time rather than admin.
  • Separate rule sets with workspaces: Each workspace has its own agents, tools and chats, which helps if you run several brands or locations. Wix suggests a franchise owner might build a separate custom agent for each location.

Most of the upfront effort goes into writing down things you already know but have never had to explain. If you do that well, your custom agent ends up as a working record of how your business actually runs, which is more than most small companies have on paper.
