An introduction to Video Surveillance as a Service with Synology’s revolutionary C2 Surveillance solution
Meet Synology's brand new C2 video surveyance as a service offering

Gone of the days when you need to have a server and a network video recorder solution locally to get your video surveillance system up and running.
VSaaS (Video Surveillance as a Service) is the biggest revolution that has hit this market. Forget the old-school closed-circuit television (CCTV) equivalent; this is what the future of video surveillance looks like.
C2 Surveillance, by Synology, is designed for server-less and NVR-less deployments, which allows for frictionless multi-site scalability and is built with a continuity-first architecture in mind.
In other words, you keep the amount of hardware locally to a strict minimum and move as much as possible offsite to Synology’s own cloud.
A new breed of video surveillance systems
That means lower capital expenditure (no NVR, no server, optional local/edge storage, less cabling and labor costs) and a simplified OPEX structure thanks to a one-stop-shop approach.
C2 offers superior recurring expenditure savings compared to other VSaaS rivals (more than 2.5X) and even higher compared to traditional legacy surveillance systems.
C2 Surveillance is designed for seamless integration with Synology IP cameras, enabling straightforward scaling without additional licensing fees or complexity.
Other advantages offered by such a system include easier (and much faster) multi-site management and deployment, fewer points-of-failure (guaranteed recording continuity even during network outages and failover offline mode for local monitoring even without internet connectivity) and robust built-in security and privacy features.
Users also benefit from any improvements rolled out across C2 Surveillance without the need for on-the-ground interventions, be it new features or additional performance enhancements (like AI-powered detection). It already supports a low bandwidth mode that halves bandwidth consumption.
Security at its core
Sysops will also appreciate the integration with Windows Active Directory as well as role-based access control that simplifies user management and improves security.
Speaking of which, C2 Surveillance is designed with security at its core, featuring AES-128 encryption, MFA, granular permissions, and adherence to standards like ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, and NDAA
So if you want a modern video surveillance system that can span across multiple locations without added complexity and lower costs, ensuring continuous monitoring, centralized management, and access control, then C2 surveillance is the ideal solution.
The system is also suited for a more flexible, hybrid approach: you can use microSD cards for continuous local edge recording or C2 cloud for backing up recordings. C2 Surveillance is an integral component of Synology’s broader surveillance ecosystem which includes IP cameras and NVR.
C2 Surveillance will be available later this year and is part of the C2 family which includes C2 Password, C2 Backup, C2 Transfer, C2 Cloud, C2 Identity and C2 object storage.
