Nacon Protection Case XL for Nintendo Switch 2: review
Need a carrying case for your brand spankin’ new Nintendo Switch 2? Then the Nacon Protection Case XL could be perfect for you. This third-party model is large, imposing, and hardy, offering plenty of protection against scuffs and tumbles.
At almost £25, this case is a little pricier than the standard official Switch 2 case. But for good reason. See, you’re getting a lot more space here – there’s even enough room in the main compartment to house your console’s dock, as well as the necessary cables for TV play. I even fit my Hori Piranha Plant Camera for Nintendo Switch 2 in there on top of all of that. Not bad, right?! This section also comes with an adjustable divider, so you could instead house your Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip on one side, and a cable on the other, for example.
What’s more, this case comes with ten game card slots, four more than the official case supplies. You can get more from some competitors, but that’s still a very decent amount. And even though you may not have ten Switch 2 game cards yet, you can also holster some of the best Nintendo Switch games too – you know, for the OG console – if you’ve got them. Personally, I always like to keep a copy of de Blob handy.
Like the divider in the main compartment, the game slot storage is connected to the case with Velcro. When it’s fastened up, it sits in front of your Nintendo Switch 2’s screen, essentially acting as an additional protective layer. Pretty neat! During testing, the fabric of the game slot storage never scratched my screen or got it overly dusty – as you’d hope, really.
It’s undeniable that this XL case is durable. It’s pretty solid to the touch, has a rugged exterior, and the material it's composed of is scratch-resistant. OK, the zip and handle don’t exactly feel premium or particularly high quality, but they function well, and I have no problems to report personally.
Arguably, the most disappointing aspect of this case is its somewhat flat design. If there’s one thing I can say about it, it sure is black.
Yep, there’s no detailing or splashes of colour to note, which may suit the minimalist, but I wanna feel a bit of a fun factor – this is for a Nintendo console after all! Nacon’s non-XL cases can be purchased in either blue or red – matching the colours of the Joy-Con 2, and personally, I would’ve liked that to be an option here as well.

One more small thing, the material is a little prone to picking up little specs and dust here and there, so you might need to dust it down every now and then. Of course, it won’t suit those looking for a slim, ultra-compact option either. This is a case for those who need space for accessories or even their Switch 2 dock – not just for the console.
All in all then, this case is pleasingly protective, abundant in storage space, and good value for money. Especially when you consider that Nintendo’s official all-in-one case is more than £60 – yes, you read that correctly. OK, this model’s not exactly a stunner, and its bulk won’t suit everyone, but its 10 game slots, scratch-resistant exterior, and ability to house the Switch 2’s dock make it well-worth considering.

Buy it if…
You want plenty of space for your games, dock, and accessories
This case comes with 10 game slots, a considerable step up from the six you’ll see in Nintendo’s official alternative. There’s also a large compartment that can store your dock or a few accessories – think the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip and a power cable, say.
You’d like a durable, hardy option
This case from Nacon has a pretty durable exterior, and should keep your Switch 2 safe and sound from damage during any journey. It makes use of a decently padded, anti-scratch material, meaning it should last for years to come.
Don’t buy it if…
You want something compact
I love that this case is big enough to fit my Switch 2 dock. But as a result of its spacious design, the Nacon Protection Case XL is… well XL. If you want something lightweight and slim to throw in your bag, this isn’t it. Instead, it’s a fairly chunky, but hardy option. If you don’t need space for your dock and accessories, you’ll be better off with a smaller rival.
You want something stylish
The one note look of this case isn’t really my thing. Sure, it looks and feels durable, but I’d like a few dashes of colour to add a fun factor. I mean, it's designed for a Nintendo console – something full of vibrant, charismatic, and joyful titles. But this thing looks pretty straight-edged, meaning those searching for an eye-catching case may be better served elsewhere.

Nacon Hard Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch 2
Back again with Nacon, and this one’s for anyone seeking a slimmer, more compact case for the Switch 2 console on its own. This comes in more exciting colour options than its XL sibling, is very cheap, and remains really robust. There aren’t so many game cartridge slots here, and it's certainly not large enough to house your dock, but if that’s no dealbreaker for you, this case is worth checking out.
