As long as you're not planning on watching 3D, the KDL-46NX713 will blow your socks off.

Its 2D high-definition performance is stunning, rendering detail with tremendous clarity without going to pieces once the camera starts to move, thanks largely to MotionFlow's excellent processing. It delivers reasonable blacks and radiant, natural colours too and provided you show restraint with the processing modes there are few artefacts to speak of.

What's more there are loads of features on board, with built-in Wi-Fi being a highlight. But it's their quality not quantity that impresses – its web portal is still the best in the business, media streaming is slick and easy to use, while USB file support is decent, if not comprehensive. And with Sony's Xross Media Bar on board, the set is also a breeze to operate.

But 3D lets the side down. Pictures are laden with crosstalk, 2D conversion fails to convince and the punishing price of glasses and transmitter rubs salt in the wound.

We liked

The beautifully rendered high-definition images from Blu-ray and Freeview HD, which don't suffer greatly from motion artefacts or other nasties.

Built-in Wi-Fi is always a bonus, Sony's Bravia Internet Video portal offers a market-leading range of content (particularly when it comes to catch-up TV services), while the design is gorgeous

We disliked

The crosstalk-laden 3D pictures and the high cost of the equipment needed to view them. There's also an issue with light pooling from the edge LED backlight and the remote could probably do with tweaking. The range of formats supported by the LAN feature isn't particularly extensive, either

Final verdict

The KDL-46NX713 delivers fantastic 2D hi-def picture quality and packs a pleasing amount of features into its skinny, stylish frame. 3D picture quality leaves a lot to be desired and the cost of the glasses could be prohibitive, but that aside this is a top-drawer TV.
