Best monopod for DSLR photography: Vanguard Espod AM-263

Unlike every other monopod in the group, the Vanguard has only three leg sections. It doesn't fold down particularly small, at 67cm, but it still manages a decent maximum height of 160cm.

Other upsides are that there are only two leg clamps to operate, and the diameters of each section can remain relatively slim, at 20-26mm, while still enabling excellent rigidity.

The 5kg maximum load rating takes into account the included tilt head, which works a treat.

It doesn't have a quick-release plate, but its tightening mechanism is quicker and easier to use than the Benro's.

Another nice touch is the carabiner that's supplied, for easily attaching the monopod to other items when carrying it.

Pros… Quick and easy to use, good height, excellent tilt head.
Cons… Three-section legs, so doesn't fold down very small.
WE say… More expensive than some, but well worth the extra.
