GMKtec has just launched the Evo-X1 Pro, a premium AI-focused mini PC built around AMD's new Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 chip, 64GB LPDDR5 RAM, with an OCuLink port that lets you bolt on a full desktop GPU when you need more graphics power. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 is a Zen 5-based chip with 12 cores and 24 threads, 24MB of L3 cache, and boost speeds up to 5.2GHz — a step up from the mid-range mini PCs we usually see in this category.

It pairs that with AMD's XDNA 2 NPU, which GMKtec rates at up to 55 TOPS on its own, or up to 86 TOPS when combined with the rest of the system, aimed at running local AI models and LLM workloads directly on the machine rather than in the cloud.

Graphics come from AMD's Radeon 890M, based on RDNA 3.5 with 16 compute units — enough for mainstream AAA gaming at moderate settings without a discrete card.

The standout feature here is the OCuLink port, a PCIe 4.0 x4 connection that lets you attach an external desktop GPU when you want considerably more graphics performance for gaming or GPU-accelerated AI and creative work. GMKtec notes OCuLink doesn't support hot-swapping, so any external GPU needs to be connected or disconnected with the system powered off.

GMKtec is pairing this hardware with what it calls an Arctic Cooling System — a dual-fan setup with a dedicated CPU cooler, a separate system fan, dual air intakes, and dust-resistant construction, designed to keep the machine both cool and quiet during sustained AI or gaming workloads.

Triple-display output is supported at up to 8K resolution. Networking covers dual 2.5GbE LAN and Wi-Fi 7, which should comfortably outpace most home and small-office setups.

Worth flagging before you buy: this is a brand-new launch, so there are no independent reviews yet to verify GMKtec's performance and AI TOPS figures - although the previous model impressed us throughout our testing (you can read the review here).

And while the Radeon 890M handles mainstream gaming reasonably well, you'll need to add an external GPU over OCuLink for serious 1440p or 4K gaming performance.

For anyone wanting a compact desktop that can run local AI workloads today and take a discrete GPU down the line, the Evo-X1 Pro is a genuinely interesting new option.

We called the Ryzen 9 9950X3D the best processor on the market when we tested AMD's flagship CPU, praising its "fantastic overall performance" and near-perfect gaming results. Now, it's hit an all-time low.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D drops to $569 (was $670) when you tick the on-page coupon box. That's the lowest price I've seen at any retailer, beating the previous low of $574 in April. In the UK, the CPU also hits the lowest price of £495 (was £519), again beating the £499 seen in May.

For creators or gamers building or upgrading an AM5 system who want the fastest all-around desktop CPU on the market, $569 is a genuinely excellent price. Grab it while the coupon's still active.

The 9950X3D is AMD's flagship consumer processor, built around two 8-core chiplets on the Zen 5 architecture, with 3D V-Cache stacked on one of them to boost gaming performance without giving up the multi-core muscle needed for productivity work. In our full review, we found it delivered nearly perfect gaming performance alongside reasonable power draw, making it easier to cool than you might expect from a chip in this performance class.

Sister site Tom's Hardware benchmarked the 9950X3D extensively and found it ran roughly 37% faster than Intel's flagship Core 9 285K on average in 1080p gaming, and about 26% ahead of the older Core i9-14900K. It even matched the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, long considered the go-to gaming chip, in most of their tests — impressive given the 9950X3D packs twice the cores.

Where the 9950X3D pulls ahead of the 9800X3D is multi-threaded work. With double the cores and a 170W TDP ceiling, it has real headroom for video editing, 3D rendering, and other workloads that can spread across 16 cores and 32 threads — making it a genuine all-rounder rather than a gaming-only chip.

This deal is worth acting on quickly if you've been watching the price. The 9950X3D has held close to its $699.99 launch price for most of its life, dipping to a previous low of around $574 earlier this year. At $569, this is the cheapest it has ever been at a major US retailer, and coupon-based deals like this one have a habit of disappearing without notice.

One thing worth knowing before you buy: only 8 of the 16 cores sit on the V-Cache-equipped chiplet, and Windows doesn't always schedule games onto the right cores automatically. AMD's chipset software helps manage this, but it's an extra step compared with a simpler 8-core gaming chip.

If pure gaming performance per dollar is your only priority, the cheaper Ryzen 7 9800X3D is still worth a look — but for anyone who also wants serious multi-core power for productivity or content creation, the 9950X3D is the stronger all-around buy at this price.

If you're looking to get ahead for college in the fall, then a VPN is one of the most sensible back-to-school staples to tick off your list now. You're going to spend a lot of time connected to campus Wi-Fi and it's often not as user-friendly as it might seem.

For sure, there can be security concerns when connecting to any form or public network, which a VPN can help with, but its best use at university is to make sure you can access all the content that you usually do at home.

That's because campus Wi-Fi can be very restrictive. These are networks that have to manage huge bandwidth demands, maintain cybersecurity, and also comply with legal requirements.

That means that they often limit access to certain usage-heavy services, and sites and apps that are more in a grey area when it comes to safety and the law. Think video streaming, online gaming and torrenting, for examples, as three activities that you might find curtailed.

But, if you're using a VPN on your device, the campus network in question won't be able to see what internet sites and services you're accessing, so it will be blind to you and your activities.

There are some very good and obvious reasons why a VPN should be part of your summer holiday plans.

We've not tested this specific model at TechRadar, but we have tried the slightly more advanced Shark Detect Clean & Empty, which scored an impressive four stars.

Many of the key features are available in this cheaper version. Strip away the emoji branding and this is mechanically the same machine as the standard black Centauri Carbon 2 Combo, which we reviewed and rated 4.5 out of 5. We called it "one of the cheapest and most reliable multifilament printers on the market", praising the Canvass system's four-filament setup as genuinely easy to use.

In our testing, dimensional accuracy stood out as a particular strength, with tight tolerances across a range of test targets and clean color separation on multicolor prints — an area where cheaper multifilament machines often struggle with bleed between colors. The fully enclosed chamber and 350°C nozzle also mean this isn't limited to basic PLA; it handles engineering filaments like ABS, ASA, PC, and nylon, which is unusual at this price point.

If the novelty aesthetic doesn't appeal, the regular black version is typically the cheaper option — but if you've got kids (or a desk that could use some personality), the tie-in isn't just a gimmick slapped on top of a bad product.

A couple of honest caveats carried over from the standard model: filament reels sit exposed on the outside of the machine rather than in a dry box, so humidity and temperature swings in a garage or workshop can affect print quality more than on pricier enclosed systems. Multicolor prints also still produce some purge waste as the Canvas system swaps filaments between colors, which is standard for this class of printer but worth planning for if you're printing frequently.

UGOS, Ugreen's operating system, has matured considerably since the DXP series launched in 2024. Early criticism centered on missing features and instability; that criticism is now largely outdated. The App Center has grown substantially, Docker is well-integrated, and the web interface is clean and intuitive. The honest caveat is that UGOS is still newer and has a smaller ecosystem of native apps than Synology DSM or QNAP QTS — buyers who rely on specific Synology or QNAP apps that have no UGOS equivalent should verify compatibility before switching. It seems Google is taking a page out of Samsung's book by launching sign-ups for a new generation of smartphones today. The Google Pixel 11 has already been confirmed via a new landing page on the official retailer's store page, with preorders for the new device (or devices) landing on Wednesday, August 12.

Interestingly, Google is offering an 'exclusive offer' for new subscribers who sign up for email alerts ahead of preorders. This is a first for Google's product launches, but it's something we've seen quite a lot with Samsung's big phone launches.

The usual drill is to sign up for email alerts ahead of the keynote event — in this case, Google's 'Made by Google' event in August — and you'll get a small bonus when you preorder. There are no details on what this bonus is yet, but I've attached some speculation just down below.

In terms of the devices, again, we don't know much here. Google has confirmed that it's the Google Pixel 11, but hasn't specifically said how many devices there will be. I would personally be shocked if there wasn't a Pro or Pro XL device, though. There might even be a new Google Pixel 11 Fold, so we could in fact be in store for four new Google phones.

What could the 'exclusive offer' be?

The only tidbit of information I've been able to glean from the Google Pixel 11 announcement page is that you can 'sign up and save'. That's pretty vague, but I can realistically see this going two ways, based on similar promotions from Samsung recently.

First, this exclusive offer could be a small bonus on top of the various trade-in rebates we'll undoubtedly see featured when the devices are available to preorder. It could be something like getting a $100 / £100 extra discount when you trade in an older device.

Secondly, and more likely, is some kind of Google Store credit as a bonus. When Samsung has offered this previously, we've seen the official store bundle in a bit of credit to spend on things like phone chargers, cases, and even other devices.

If a new Google Watch appears during the event, then it could be the case that you could use the credit to get a nice little discount. If memory serves, the credit is usually $30 to $50 / £30 to £50, so it's not a huge deal, but it is a nice little bonus.

What do we know about the Google Pixel 11?

Right now, the biggest rumor surrounds a new ‘Pixel Glow’ feature, which is supposedly a new kind of ambient lighting alert system. If you take a look at Google's landing page for the Pixel 11, you can see a teaser image of the device featuring a multicolored lens on the camera hump. Some have suggested that this could be a confirmation of Pixel Glow, and that seems likely to me too.

The teaser also has a rather striking shiny gold color, which is something we haven't seen before on Google devices. Dare I say this color reminds me of the iPhone 16 Pro, which had a very, very similar gold option.

Speaking of colors, an Amazon leak a few days ago seemed to suggest multiple new colors on four devices. It appears like these leaks could be legit, but it's worth treating them with a pinch of salt because the listings appeared to suggest that the devices will be launching with Android 16 when they'll almost certainly be Android 17.

Going by leaks and what Samsung has teased so far, we're pretty confident that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 is about to be announced. Seeing that this is coming, Amazon is attempting to shift its remaining stock of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 by slashing the price to an incredible low of £154.79 (was £319).

Is the Galaxy Watch 8 worth it?

At this clearance price, it's very hard to argue against. Sure, the new Galaxy Watch 9 is almost certainly about to be announced next week at Samsung Unpacked, but it will cost at least twice as much as this model at its discounted price.

Previous offers on the Galaxy Watch 8 haven't come anywhere near to this low, so chances are it will never be beaten and never be seen again once stock runs out.

For such an advanced and well-rated smartwatch, it's easily one of the best deals of the year. If you're happy picking up some slightly older but still incredibly capable tech, especially if you're a fitness and health tracking enthusiast, I geninuely don't think you'll find a better bargain than this all year.

So, what's on offer here? Is the Sonos upgrade program worth it?

The Sonos upgrade program is a no-brainer if you've got an eye on a new speaker or soundbar from the manufacturer.

The list of qualifying products nearly covers the entire catalogue, so chances are that, if you bought one in the last decade, you will have the discount available. Just make sure the product is registered in your account and then head to the upgrade program page to claim your discount.

You will also see that there's an option to print a shipping label to send your current item back. However, you don't actually need to do a trade-in to get the discount. That's only if you want to send it back so it's recycled or if you no longer need it.

Why this combination works

The trick with 8BitDo's Retro line is that the nostalgia isn't hiding a corner-cut product underneath it. The keyboard uses genuinely hot-swappable Kailh switches and PBT keycaps, which is the kind of spec sheet you'd expect from a keyboard enthusiast brand, not a novelty NES tribute. The R8 mouse's PAW 3395 sensor and 8,000Hz wired polling are legitimately competitive with mice that don't have a charging dock shaped like a museum display stand. And the numpad, which could easily have been an afterthought, gets its own little identity with the calculator mode.

Buying all three together also solves the problem that usually comes with retro-themed gear: matching. A single retro-styled keyboard on an otherwise modern desk can look like a costume prop. We reviewed the Bambu Lab P2S and found it "about as refined as they come" for anyone upgrading from an entry-level 3D printer.

So, I was pleased to see the Bambu Lab P2S Combo with AMS 2 Pro is $699 (was $799) at Bambu Lab — a $100 saving on a fully enclosed CoreXY printer built for multi-color, engineering-grade work. In the UK, the Bambu Lab P2S Combo also got a discount down to £619 (was £699) at Bambu Lab.

In our testing, we ran the machine constantly for weeks with very little in the way of failures or misprints, and it was clear that many of the features — the touchscreen, the AI error detection, the general polish — had trickled down from Bambu's pricier X1 Carbon and H2D machines.

Scoring 4.5 stars in our review with a Highly Recommended award, we called the P2S "absolutely superb" and "about as refined as they come". It's a follow-up to the best-selling P1S, and we found the upgrades meaningful rather than just cosmetic.

The PMSM servo extruder is the standout hardware change. It delivers up to 8.5kg of maximum extrusion force — 70% more than the outgoing stepper-driven design — and samples resistance and position at 20kHz, so it can catch filament grinding or clogs in real time rather than letting a print fail silently. Combined with a high-frequency eddy current sensor for flow calibration, this printer is built to handle tricky or higher-flow materials with greater consistency than its predecessor.

The AMS 2 Pro included in this Combo bundle is worth the extra cost on its own. It's a four-spool multi-material system with active air-vent drying, sealed storage, and RFID filament sync with Bambu's own spools — useful if you print with moisture-sensitive materials like nylon or want to avoid the usual dry-box shuffle. It can double as a filament dryer even when you're not actively printing multi-color jobs.

Build quality elsewhere follows the same pattern of small, sensible refinements: hardened steel rods in place of the P1S's carbon rods, a metal build plate base, a quick-swap nozzle system that releases with a single clip, and a full enclosure with an Active Airflow system that draws in cool air for low-temp filaments like PLA, then switches to internal circulation to keep the chamber warm for higher-temp materials like ABS or ASA.

Worth considering: the P2S doesn't have an actively heated chamber, so while the enclosure holds heat reasonably well (around 50°C with a 100°C bed in our testing), it's not built for demanding high-temperature engineering filaments like PA-CF or PEEK the way Bambu's H-series machines are. Multi-color printing with the AMS still produces some filament waste from purging between color changes, and full remote-monitoring features depend on staying connected to Bambu's cloud — LAN-only mode works for printing but drops those extras.

We always caveat our VPN speed tests by saying something like "but you only need around a 30 Mbps connection to stream 4K video". The trouble is that it's not always as simple as that when you're watching a UHD stream – particularly for an event as popular as the FIFA World Cup 2026.

I guess one of the only drawbacks to going for the Lenovo Legion Go S is the lack of an OLED display. Its eight-inch WUXGA display with a 120Hz refresh rate still offers smooth and vibrant visuals, though, all for around £250 less than the Steam Deck. I don't think it's worth paying that much more just for an OLED screen.

Yes, you may also have to make some compromises when playing the latest and most demanding games to get good performance, and battery life can be underwhelming, as with most handheld gaming PCs, but the Lenovo Legion Go S is a strong option right now as there are so few alternatives available at this price point.

As office furniture editor, I'm always on the look out for office chairs and standing desks that are actually worth your money. And for my money, the best budget combo around right now is the Sihoo B100 and the FlexiSpot one-piece standing desk.

If you're upgrading your home office, or prepping for the back-to-school season, these are my two recommendations. The combination of a cheap office chair with adaptive lumbar support and a wobble-free standing desk with a single-piece desktop is largely unheard of at this price.

My team and I have reviewed plenty of FlexiSpot and Sihoo office furniture, and they always perform well in our tests. So, while I don't have hands-on experience with the B100 or the EN1, the brands have performed so strongly that I don't hesitate in recommending both of my budget picks.

If you're kitting out a workspace with new office furniture, this is the affordable desk and chair I'd choose every time. You may see somme desks and chairs cheaper than this, but when it comes to features, I haven't seen anything to beat either at this price.
