Five things to look for in a wireless flash trigger

From RF range to sync speed, there's a lot to think about when choosing a wireless flash trigger

01 Wireless range
All the products reviewed here are radio frequency (RF) wireless devices. Their operating range is 100m or more, with the exception of the Interfit Strobies trigger, which has a 30m range.

02 Channel settings
The ability to select a wireless radio channel reduces the risk of interference from other RF devices. You can usually expect at least four alternative channel setting options.

03 Dedication
Apart from the Interfit Strobies and SMDC Flash Wave III, all the devices here are 'dedicated' for use with most cameras. However, only the PocketWizard enables iTTL flash metering.

04 Sync speed
All the triggers on test enable shutter speeds up to maximum flash sync speed, typically 1/200 or 1/250 sec. The PocketWizard enables high-speed sync with compatible flashguns.

05 Additional connections
Additional cables are often supplied, or available separately, for extending the triggers' functions so you can control your camera remotely or trigger studio flash heads.
