You might not be surprised to hear this but I'm a serious gaming nerd. As I write this, I have at least six gaming devices within 10 feet of me and more hidden away upstairs. I use at least one or two of these consoles every day — and that's totally ignoring my favorite accessories. So here's just a handful of the gadgets I currently couldn't game without.

Currently, my personal fave accessory in my home setup is the wonderfully engineered ASUS ROG Raikiri II controller. You can buy the ASUS ROG Raikiri II at Amazon for $143.99 (was $189.99) — that's an epic bargain in my eyes.

When it comes to consoles, I'd definitely recommend the superb performance and graphical fidelity of the Xbox Series X Digital Edition, which you can currently get at Amazon for $574.99 (was $649.99).

The Nintendo Switch 2 is also well worth it, particularly before its price hike this September — and you can net yourself the Choose Your Game Bundle at Amazon for $499, which allows you to get it with a digital download of Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Pokémon Pokopia into the bargain.

But while it's not purely a gaming device, my biggest tip this sale might be the fact you can grab the TCL QM8K 65-inch at Amazon for $997.99 (was $1,499.99). Given it's both seriously vibrant and crammed with great gaming features, that's a seriously good discount.

Full disclosure: I am writing this before Amazon Prime Day. If the iPhone Air is not currently on sale in your region, then you should only pay its $999 / £999 / AU$1,799 asking price if a) you have a bottomless supply of cash or b) you simply must own Apple’s most beautiful iPhone (and make no mistake: the iPhone Air is Apple’s most beautiful iPhone).

But I will eat my hat if there aren't any meaningful deals on the iPhone Air by the time you read this. It's already been discounted by as much as 30% in both the UK and Australia this year, and as such, I have a hunch that Amazon will run similar deals during its annual Prime Day sale (if you’re in the US, look out for carrier-based offers on Apple’s best iPhones).

If you can snag the iPhone Air for around 20% less than its retail price this week, I’m utterly convinced that it’s the best-value phone purchase you could make right now — for two reasons.

Firstly, you will not find a nicer-looking — and nicer-feeling — phone than the iPhone Air without spending silly money on one of the best foldable phones. The Air measures just 5.64mm at its thinnest point and is some 41g lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro, despite boasting a larger 6.5-inch display.

You might not think you care about having a thin and light phone — I also didn’t to begin with — but trust me: once you start using a device of such svelte proportions, you won’t want to go back to a regular-sized phone.

All four of us test the best phones for a living, and all four of us settled on Apple's super slim iPhone as our personal handset of choice.

The second reason why a discounted iPhone Air is the best-value phone purchase you can make right now is less obvious. Not only is this Apple’s most beautiful iPhone, but it’s also its most powerful: like the iPhone 17 Pro, the Air boasts an A19 Pro chipset and 12GB of RAM.

Now, I don’t usually highlight chipsets as a reason to buy phones — the iPhone 17e’s A19 chipset, for instance, is plenty fast enough for most people — but the iPhone Air's A19 Pro chipset and 12GB of RAM combination has suddenly become more significant than most people realize.

Here's an extract from a recent article in which I explain why the iPhone Air is future-proofed in a way that only the iPhone 17 Pro can match:

At WWDC 2026, Apple announced its all-singing, all-dancing Siri AI assistant, which will soon be available on all Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones (read: the iPhone 15 Pro and upwards) as part of iOS 27. But only three iPhones will get the very best version of Siri AI — and the iPhone Air is among that number.

Specifically, only the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air will get Siri voice customization and more advanced systemwide dictation, because only these phones run on Apple’s AFM Core Advanced model and 12GB of RAM.

Admittedly, these two features aren’t reason enough to buy a top-end iPhone — the former gives you the ability to customize the expressiveness and pace of Siri’s voice, while the latter makes Siri more effective at converting speech into accurate text — but I would bet my (non-existent) house that Apple locks several additional, more significant features behind this AFM Core Advanced paywall in future versions of iOS.

In other words, like the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone Air will soon support more software features than any other iPhone — and the gap between model capabilities will only grow wider as more hardware-exclusive features are announced.

I genuinely believe this under-the-radar feature makes the iPhone Air almost worth its regular $999 / £999 / AU$1,799 asking price, but if you can pick it up for significantly cheaper than that during Prime Day, it’s a bona fide bargain.

This deal is not Nothing

Nothing is a brand that dares to be different, which you'll immediately notice from its design aesthetic. It could conceivably be considered divisive, but I love the fact it stands out in a sea of other phones that all look alike.

And while Nothing has been making a name in the more mid-range or budget space, its latest is a premium flagship.

Outsized vacuum deal

If you have a large home that needs a vacuum that's up to the task of keeping it clean as a whistle, the Dyson Gen5outsize is the tool for the job.

A larger version of the regular Gen5detect, the Outsize model gets a bigger battery that lasts up to 70 minutes with non-motorised tools and set at the lowest suction, which may not be enough for some family homes, but you can buy an extra pack to get up to 140 minutes.

Tips for last-minute shoppers

It’s the week of Christmas, and while the festive spirit is in full swing, the reality of forgotten shopping has hit. If you’re looking to capitalise on Boxing Day sales in New Zealand but can no longer count on Amazon’s delivery services to make it in time, don’t worry – there are still excellent ways to score last-minute deals before Christmas day.

Consider Same-Day Delivery Options

Some stores, like JB Hi-Fi, offer on-demand delivery through services such as Uber, which can be a lifesaver if you find a deal you love and want it delivered straight to your door without waiting. JB Hi-Fi offers two types of Uber deliveries in metro areas:

ASAP Delivery: Your order will be delivered within 90 minutes to 2 hours of placing it.

Scheduled Delivery: If available, you can select a 2-hour delivery window during the store’s operating hours.

One button coffee

While I would ultimately recommend a more feature-packed coffee machine for true coffee covers, you can't beat the convenience of a Nespresso machine – and the Vertuo Pop is perhaps the best of the bunch.

The power of steam in an air fryer

There aren't too many air fryers that allow you to cook with steam, but this Philips 5000 Series model does. It's a rare breed, and having steam power not only means you can steam veggies and dumplings with excellent results, but you can combine steaming and air frying too.

Why would you want to do that? Well, the dedicated air fry+steam mode on this dual-basket appliance makes it great to keep the moisture within tender meat, and yet get crispy skin on chicken and pork belly. I Sense this is a great coffee machine deal

The early Boxing Day sales have delivered some great discounts on an array of coffee machines, and I'm now adding this huge saving on the rather excellent Sunbeam Origins Sense into the mix.

I've used this exact machine myself, and I found it delivered an excellent shot of espresso each and every time. Plus, it's main party trick is a steam wand that has a built-in thermometer, allowing it to automatically shut off when it reaches a set temperature – thus making it ideal for plant-based milks.

While it does have a built-in bean grinder, and the steam wand is semi-automatic, you will need to tamp the coffee grounds yourself (a tamper is provided in the box). I did find this part of the process could get a little messy, but unless you get a fully-automatic machine, that's par for the course.

A close shave

Men, you're not exactly left wanting when it comes to beard trimmers and other grooming tools, but finding one that works for you isn't always as easy as it sounds. So, take it from me, the Manscaped Beard Hedger is definitely worth the investment.

I use this beard trimmer personally and I find it super easy to use and it leaves a perfect trim. It can cut to a number of different lengths, including 0.5mm increments, it's fully waterproof and recharges easily via USB-C.

The only thing I would say is that the main cutting head is quite large compared to some other trimmers, such as those from Philips. This means it can cut a large area in one swoop, but it can make cutting up at the top of the jaw a little awkward.

Otherwise, I can't fault it, especially at this discounted price for Boxing Day at Amazon AU.

The PS5 deal of the season

Amazon AU does have some good PS5 deals this holiday season, but it's actually PB Tech that has the better prices.

Yes, you can nab a NZ$299 discount on the PS5 Slim Digital Edition complete with a copy of Fortnite Flowering Chaos – now NZ$560. Considering that's the same price that PB Tech is charging for the same console as a standalone unit, getting a game for free is a no-brainer if you ask me.

Do note that this is the digital edition of the console, which yo'll want to consider when thinking about future game purchases – digital copies can often be more expensive than physical counterparts.

Boxing Day deals are hotting up

Good morning everybody. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas spent with family and loved ones, and didn't go too overboard on the Christmas lunch. Today is Boxing Day, which only means one thing – Boxing Day deals are now going to get bigger and better.

I've just completed a check of prices on this page and some have dropped lower than pre-Boxing Day. Examples include the Sony XM6 headphones and a couple of Kindles.

The small Shark with a big bite

My colleague, Sharm, has reviewed quite a few vacuum cleaners during her time with TechRadar and she regularly rates the Shark Cordless Detect Pro with Auto-Empty System as one of the best vacuum cleaners in Australia and it also maintains a spot in her guide to the best cordless vacuum cleaners too.

It's not the most powerful vacuum, but it balances price and features remarkably well, even when not discounted. Highlights of this vacuum cleaner, aside from its good value, it its prowess at cleaning room edges where dust tends to accumulate. The cleaner head's light is superfluous and it doesn't quite light up dust particles like Dyson's Fluffy Optic does, but it can be handy to see into dark corners or under furniture.

Sharm's favourite part of the Shark Cordless Detect Pro is its auto-empty docking station. It's not as powerful as Samsung's Clean Station, but she loves the fact that it doesn't need replaceable dust bags, so there's no ongoing costs. You can clean and wash the box, let it dry and pop it back on again.

Take a virtual Quest with a big saving

The Meta Quest VR headsets have always been a relatively affordable entry into virtual reality and now thanks to Boxing Day sales, they're even more accessible.

Amazon AU has some of the best prices on the Quest 3S headset, in both storage options. There is a bit of a jump in price between the 128GB and 256GB models, but we would ultimately recommend getting the larger storage size if you can, as it will give you even more space for game downloads.

Hurry, Meta Quest 3S deals like this don't last very long.

If you're an iPhone owner and you're looking for the perfect headphone companion, give the AirPods Pro 4 an audition.

You can get the standard version or the one with active noise cancellation, although the latter does inevitably cost you more. Fortunately both have received decent discounts at PB Tech.

I've linked both prices below, but I'm focusing here on the pair without ANC as they're down to NZ$194.99 (down from NZ$249). That's only a 22% discount, but it's considering it's been a while since we've seen discount on these in-ears, it's one worth shouting about.

Kindle me this!

The Amazon Kindle ereaders are some of the best you can get, offering a seamless reading experience, coupled with a well-stocked and easy-to-use book store.

The Kindle Paperwhite is one of our favourites, and interestingly, it's not Amazon that has the best price for Boxing Day, but PB Tech.

My colleague, Sharm, is a bookworm and TechRadar's resident ereader expert, and she loves the Paperwhite's screen. The E Ink Carta 1300 display shines here, and whatever Amazon has done to the software to tweak performance has worked. It's all quick and snappy and just how you want it. Can't complain about the battery life either.

Her biggest complaint was that this tweaked software is quite large and if you're opting for the standard Paperwhite with its 16GB storage, about 4.5GB is taken up by the OS, leaving you with 11.5GB. Now, that's plenty for thousands of ebooks, but if you're purchasing audiobooks as well from the Kindle Store, you'll run out of storage rather quickly.

The other issue I have is that Amazon has disabled Bluetooth connectivity in Australia, so you actually can't listen to those audiobooks you download via a set of paired headphones. To me, that diminishes the per-dollar value of the device.

Retro film photography in a digital body

If you love the aesthetic of film photography but don't want to deal with the hassle (or expense) of film rolls, then you'll surely be interested to learn you can get the retro look from a digital camera.

That's exactly what the Fujifilm X Half let's you do – it emulates half-frame film photography by creating 3:4 vertical images on a 1-inch sensor. To help ensure your pics look as authentic as possible, there's a dedicated film camera mode that tracks your shots and prevents you from being able to review them on the display.

Admittedly, it's not a powerhouse camera but it sure is a nifty compact that has plenty of appeal. Even better is the fact that it's dropped in price dramatically, which makes it all the more enticing.

However, as TechRadar’s AI Senior Writer, I spend a lot of my time testing the newest innovations in the world of artificial intelligence, and this week, OpenAI launched a new upgrade to ChatGPT just in time for the biggest shopping event of the year.

ChatGPT shopping research is a new tool that uses AI to take out the work of doing your own deal hunting, and I gave it a try to see how it compares to a human-curated buying guide.

Hey ChatGPT, find me the best AirPods deals

Yesterday, I wrote about the best AirPods Black Friday deals currently available, so I had AirPods Pro 2 discounts on my mind this morning when I went to test out ChatGPT shopping research.

I decided to enable shopping research (simply click the + button in ChatGPT to select it) and ask a fairly vague, yet easily solvable shopping prompt: “AirPods Black Friday deals.”

ChatGPT started to think, and then asked me a few questions based on my needs, such as what my price range was and which models I was interested in. Then, the AI showed me multiple products in a card-style UI where I could say if I was interested, and if not, why I wasn’t.

Within two minutes, ChatGPT's shopping research provided me with a full shopping guide for AirPods and included the two main discounted deals in the UK at the time of writing. It was pretty impressive, I can’t lie.

Then again, that was an easy test – would it be able to handle a more complicated challenge?

How about something more vague?

Often, when you’re looking for a Black Friday deal, you look for guidance on what the best product and the best discount are. So to test this, I asked ChatGPT shopping research to “Find me a good Black Friday deal on an air fryer for the kitchen.”

Could ChatGPT compete with the excellent information I could find in TechRadar’s best Black Friday air fryer deals article? I pointed ChatGPT in the direction of a dual-chamber air fryer, preferably made by Ninja, because I could see that there were plenty of deals on these already available in the sales.

This time, ChatGPT shopping research took seven minutes to recommend me a product, and while it found one of the best deals on offer at the moment in the UK, it only gave me two options. On TechRadar's human-curated page, meanwhile, we have seven for the UK and the same number for the US.

The experience using ChatGPT shopping research was pretty pleasant; in fact, I quite enjoyed leaving AI to its own devices while I went about my workday. That said, I can’t properly recommend this new AI tool yet, and it’s for the same reason that I don’t think anyone can truly complete tasks using the other research offerings on the market either – namely reliability.

99% isn’t good enough

When you look at TechRadar for a deal this Black Friday, you can be sure that the price has been verified and that the author has done their due diligence to be certain that you won’t find a better price.

With ChatGPT research tools, whether that’s this particular shopping one or deep research, you can never be 100% certain that it isn’t hallucinating in some form along its thought process. And, considering it can make things up, misunderstand situations, and maybe even overlook retailers, you can never know if the deal it’s pointing you towards is actually the best.

ChatGPT shopping research is really well done if you need extra help with making a purchasing decision, but it doesn’t replace the hours and hours spent by humans to update deals posts in real time to ensure you can save the most money possible, or even if a discount isn’t involved, point you towards making a purchase you won’t regret.

After testing out ChatGPT shopping research, I’ve found a newfound appreciation for the work my colleagues and I put in during seasonal sales like Black Friday – whether that’s researching products to ensure they offer the best bang for buck, or scouring the web to check price history. Journalists all around the world, not just on this site, work hard over the holiday period so you don’t have to.

I’ll continue to use shopping research for information and quick product comparisons, but it still requires human research, whether that’s done independently or by using a website with professionals.

At the end of the day, AI is just another resource to help you to save that little bit of cash at this time of the year, and using it alongside other platforms won’t hurt. Just don’t treat ChatGPT shopping research as gospel, or you might end up losing cash, rather than saving it.

iPads are among the most popular products in any year's slate of Black Friday Apple deals, but even with discounts applied, the best iPads are expensive bits of kit.

That said, I’ve been covering Black Friday sales for years now, and I’ve noticed a significant iPad-related sea change this year: refurbished tech products – and in particular, refurbished iPads – are even more discounted than usual.

Refurbished gadgets aren’t new, with some major and specialist retailers having built up a reputation for sprucing up pre-loved tech. But I’ve never seen so many early Black Friday deals appear for iPads, specifically, which means there’s scope for you to save loads of money if you know what to look for.

In fact, I bought a refurbished iPad several years ago, so I can guide you through what to know about the tech and what to expect from these deals.

What does 'refurbished' even mean?

Refurbished tech is gadgetery that's been professionally serviced; experts will make sure it works to a high standard, sometimes conducting tests or replacing parts, though the exact process varies from retailer to retailer. It's not the same as pre-owned tech, which will often be sold without these (or any other) assurances.

I bought my refurbished iPad for one key reason: it was cheaper than buying a brand-new model. I bought it from Apple's own refurb store, so I could trust that it'd be up to a high standard – and it was. If you gave me a new iPad alongside an Apple-refurbished model, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Even the packaging was very similar, subconsciously telling me, "this isn't some cheap leftover, but a fully-functioning tablet."

There are other reasons that people opt to buy refurbished, the primary one being the environmental aspect. There's no denying that we're in an e-waste crisis, with the World Health Organization citing electronic products as one of the fastest-growing solid waste streams. And by keeping a gadget in circulation, you save it from going to landfill and also avoid more rare earth materials being used for the new device you'd be buying instead.

Those are the big-ticket reasons for buying refurbished, but I'm going to list you two more that are just as relevant for some people. Firstly, buying refurbished gives you a way of getting older gadgets that a manufacturer has stopped selling. If you want to get a past-generation iPad, for instance, Apple and major retailers might not have any, but refurbs come to the rescue.

Secondly, and perhaps more anecdotally, I see amazing deals around refurbished gadgets. While 10% off an iPad is often seen as a great discount during Black Friday, I'm used to seeing much bigger reductions on refurbished models (and that's a discount over the already-cheaper price).

Three years of iPad

I've had my refurb for three years now; it was a 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2021), so when I bought it in late 2022, it wasn't from the newest range. I didn't mind it being older, since I'd been happily using one of TechRadar's 2018 models for years with no problems, but the 2022 model was also too recent to have any refurb stock.

Honestly, I've never looked back. Three years on, the battery still lasts as well as it ever did (admittedly, that's not saying much, given how poor iPad battery lives are), which is the main worry I had when buying refurbished. I've never had any issues with it, and I use it almost every day for various tasks (well, apart from abandoning it recently for an ereader).

In fact, it's fared a lot better than the peripherals I bought alongside it, as the new Apple Pencil I picked up at the same time broke a year ago. I've already documented my attempt to find a cheap knock-off iPad stylus, though I've just noticed that Apple and Back Market sell refurbished styli too.

I'm also glad I bought an iPad when I did: newer Pro models are stuffed full of specs I don't need (why do I need an M5 chip on a device I'm using for drawing and typing?), and I can bypass Apple's insistence on useless AI features by simply not updating my iPad.

The new wave of refurb

This isn't the first time I've written about this refurb purchase for TechRadar, having waxed lyrical about it a few years ago to encourage people to follow in my footsteps. But I've noticed changes in the refurb market since then.

When I first started writing about refurbished tech and bought my iPad, you really had to hunt down retailers. Back Market was the only major one I knew about, but it hadn't started promoting itself as insistently as it does now (which was arguably a good thing; I'm plagued by its low-effort YouTube ads).

Apple's own refurbished line is something I only heard about from a friend, and I'd have never thought to buy from the company if it wasn't for that mention. Back then, major retailers didn't stock refurbished gadgets, and it was something of a fringe topic, even for someone writing for a tech website!

Nowadays, it's very easy to go onto your chosen shop's website and find pre-loved devices listed alongside new ones. I was surprised, covering early Black Friday deals this year, by just how many I was finding on refurbished tech. It's not just iPads and smartphones now; I've been very tempted to buy one of the many Black Friday PS5 deals, and you can also find laptops, earbuds, home hubs, and even printers.

And that's a good thing all around: cheaper tech, greener purchasing.

Where to find great refurbished deals

Like I said, I've seen quite a few good refurbished deals so far already, and more will come and go as Black Friday gets closer. They don't always last long; refurbs naturally have lower stock than new models.

So, instead of listing specific deals, I'm going to share a few places you should go to look for refurbished tech. I'll list the perks of buying from their respective refurbished programs, too, which is often important.

• Back Market: 1-year warranty, guarantees, and a quality charter on how it grades tech
• Apple: 1-year guarantee, 90-day AppleCare, and replacement Apple parts
• Amazon: inspected, tested, and 1-year guarantee
• Walmart: inspected, tested, cleaned, and 90-day guarantee

As someone who's covered the annual Black Friday sales for over five years, I'm no stranger to recommending a deal or two. In fact, I've recommended thousands of products over the years.

So, you can imagine my curiosity with the stratospheric rise of ChatGPT and other LLMs recently. People use ChatGPT for everything from simple shopping lists to holiday planning, so why couldn't you use it for Black Friday shopping? A tool that can both search the internet for deals, reviews, and buying guides at the same time sounds like the perfect Black Friday shopping assistant.

As an expert, however, I will admit I have reservations. For one, when I first tinkered with the tool in its infancy, I found it provided out-of-date suggestions. It was great at summarizing reviews and buying advice, but it was pretty useless at actually pointing you at deals you could buy right now. That makes perfect sense when you consider how these tools scrape and parse data.

LLMs have evolved significantly in the past year, however. New agentic features and much-improved search results have made them much more useful for research-based tasks like shopping. With peak Black Friday sales season upon us, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit the topic with another round of tests to see if ChatGPT could actually save our readers some cash with good deal suggestions.

Case study one: laptops

For my first test, I settled on laptop deals as a case study. Not only is this an area that I personally cover here on TechRadar, but we review laptops all year round so we've got an excellent grasp on the market.

Things like operating system, brand, and configurations are all key considerations that I look for when recommending a laptop, so I was keen to see what kind of information ChatGPT would provide. I'm pretty technically-minded, but I decided to keep it simple and vague for my first query - essentially, role-playing as a complete newbie.

I opened with: "I need a new laptop for working from home, can you recommend some early Black Friday deals?".

• Dell 16 Plus: was $1,299.99 now $849.99 at Dell
• HP OmniBook X Flip: was $1,099 now $679.99 at Best Buy

So far, so good. ChatGPT immediately recommended three decent laptops with Black Friday discounts at the relevant retailers. We've had hands-on time with all three of these models here at TechRadar, and they'd all do the job admirably.

ChatGPT also summarized some fantastic buying advice a little further down the page, including a basic overview of how much RAM and storage you may need. If you're a complete laptop beginner, then this would be a fantastic place to start your research.

When I looked at my initial results, however, I couldn't help but think - these suggestions are a little pricey - and, they also don't include any suggestions for MacBooks. It felt like part of the picture was missing here, so I followed up with a prompt to include some budget options.

• Asus CX15 Chromebook: was $219 now $139 at Walmart

Another three solid options from ChatGPT, although perhaps a little too cheap. It really took the prompt and ran with it here by suggesting some sub-$200 ChromeBooks. If I were recommending a basic machine for working from home, I'd probably go for something a little more powerful than these. I'd also recommend a Windows 11 machine for greater app support; something you'd likely require for a flexible working-from-home setup.

The Asus Aspire Go 15 is a fine choice, but I wouldn't take it over something like the Dell 15 laptop at the official Dell Store for $299 (was $449), which is my favorite "super cheap" Windows laptop right now. I'd also highly recommend the Dell 14 Plus for $749 (was $1,099) at the official Dell Store and the Apple MacBook Air M4 for $749 (was $999) at Amazon. I would say, arguably, that all three of these deals offer better bang for the buck than the options returned by my initial ChatGPT experiments. I ran the queries a few times, and in every case, found better options by cross-checking both editorial sites and major retailers like Dell, Best Buy, and Amazon.

That's not to say that ChatGPT isn't a fantastic springboard for ideas, however, and the buying advice it returned was definitely solid.

Case study two: phones

Phone deals are another area of expertise for me, and they can be tricky to recommend, too. There are a lot of various hoops, T&Cs, and caveats with the best phone deals. They usually require a super-pricey unlimited plan or a trade-in to be eligible for a discount.

The thing that I'm really looking for with ChatGPT's phone buying advice is not just the biggest savings, but also contextual information around how much these potential Black Friday deals could cost with the attached plans, and the various eligibility criteria.

For my opening query, again, I choose to keep it relatively simple and straightforward: "Can you recommend some good early Black Friday iPhone deals in the US?". Here's what it returned:

My top three suggested deals were, to be frank, a little weird. The iPhone 16e deal at Walmart is quite good, but it fails to mention that it's tied to the prepaid carrier StraightTalk. All the other suggestions are either similar prepaid deals at Walmart or deals on refurbished devices. Refurbished iPhones can be good value, but it's a strange thing to recommend without any specific prompting. Things got a little better further down the page, however.

Now, these are the types of iPhone deals that tend to be genuinely popular over Black Friday; namely big carrier promotions. ChatGPT did a pretty good job here of summarizing what could be available at AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and smaller carriers, too.

If I had to critique the selection of deals, however, I'd say that they are pretty out of date. ChatGPT states that these are early Black Friday iPhone deals, but they're actually promotions from a few weeks ago, before the major carriers updated their sites with new seasonal offerings. For reference, here are a few iPhone deals from my Black Friday iPhone deals page.

You can see there's a slight difference in the criteria with these promotions. Yes, they are similar, but in both cases the carrier is offering a little bit more with this week's deals. For example, T-Mobile has waived the trade-in eligibility for the free iPhone 17, whereas Verizon is throwing in a free iPad and Apple Watch; two excellent freebies that you'd definitely want mentioned if you were looking to upgrade.

So, can ChatGPT save you cash?

Well, yes, it might, but, as always, you'll want to cross-check its results with other sources. It's another tool in the shopper's back pocket, but you'll still want to look at multiple retailers, news sites, and so on, before you lay down some cash.

Initially, I was impressed with the results that the tool was returning. It seemed to list the various sources for more information, prices were up-to-date, and it referenced models from well-known brands. After a bit of digging, however, I did come to the conclusion that there were better deals elsewhere.

For one, while ChatGPT is fantastic at summarizing various reviews, buying guides, and roundups, its recommendations tend to be pretty generic. It also tends to lack the immediacy of a freshly published page from a news site. Again, you need to double-check to make sure the prices and information are up-to-date. To be fair, that's a criticism that I'd level at news sites too (in fact, the deals on this page may be out of date by the time you read it).

The contextual advice you get with your deal suggestions on ChatGPT is also superb. Prompting the tool for further bespoke suggestions is one key advantage over traditional editorial sites, for sure. If I were spending my own cash, I'd just make sure to reference both the LLM, recent news, and expert reviews on TechRadar (and other sites, too).

Black Friday is fast approaching, and if you were considering using the annual sales event to pick up a cut-price robot vacuum, one brand that might be on your radar is Roomba. This was the original robovac (or at least, the first commercially viable, consumer grade model) and has graced TechRadar's best robot vacuum ranking ever since it changed the floor-cleaning game all those years ago. (Until recently, at least – more on that in a second.)

What might not be on your radar is that Roomba's parent brand iRobot is in the middle of some serious financial difficulties – so much so that it's looking increasingly like the Roomba's days are numbered. If the brand is unable to secure emergency funding or a buyer, it could go bankrupt in a matter of weeks. So, should you still consider buying a Roomba this Black Friday? I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Even though iRobot isn't out of action yet, it's looking like it's going to go that way. If you were to buy one now, you'd be taking a risk in terms of aftercare if anything went wrong down the line, and you needed customer support or even a replacement.

More than that, though, I probably wouldn't recommend one of the current wave of Roomba bots in the first place. iRobot's robot vacuums were once top of the pack, but in recent years, the brand has struggled to keep up with the competition.

In March 2025, the brand culled and completely replaced its existing range, and while the new lineup looked promising, responses have been mixed at best. My reviewer called the iRobot Roomba 205 DustCompactor a "crushing disappointment" due to unreliable mapping and navigation, and noisy operation.

While I suspect there will be plenty of iRobot Roomba deals floating around in this year's Black Friday sales, I'm sorry to say I personally wouldn't buy one, no matter how great-value it looked.

What robovac brands should I look at instead?

My favorite robot vacuum brands are Roborock and Dreame. If you have a bigger budget, both have superb high-end bots in their range – the Roborock Qrevo Curv is my top recommendation right now, and the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete picked up TechRadar's Robot Vacuum of the Year award for 2025.

Alternatively, both offer strong budget-friendly options. The Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 and Roborock Q7 M5 are both simple but effective, and among the best cheap robot vacuums I've come across.

The robot vacuum market is fairly saturated, and I'm anticipating plenty of discounts across the board from both brands, on Black Friday and in the weeks leading up to it.

What's happening with iRobot?

The most recent development in the iRobot story is a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing that states that the brand's "financial condition continues to decline" and if it is not granted a loan waiver extension, it "may be unable to secure the additional funding needed to continue [its] operations."

iRobot has been struggling for some time, and a potential brand-saving proposed Amazon acquisition bit the dust in 2024 due to push-back from EU market regulators. As a result, the brand significantly streamlined its operations, and in March 2025, it discarded its current range and unveiled a completely new lineup. Unfortunately, it proved not to be the saving grace the brand must have been hoping for, garnering very lukewarm reviews. At the time of writing, the brand's future is looking increasingly uncertain.

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale is officially coming, and it's the biggest one ever! Running for a full seven days from October 7 to October 13, it beats the six-day sale we saw last year, and matches the week-long Prime Day we enjoyed in July. It kicks off the massive end-of-year shopping season, which culminates in Black Friday and then Christmas.

What to expect from Prime Big Deal Days

Positioned perfectly between the mid-year and Black Friday sales, Prime Big Deal Days is the first major opportunity for shoppers to get a head start on holiday shopping.

While you might be tempted to wait until November, Amazon has already confirmed deals from top brands like Lego and Samsung, as well as Amazon devices like Ring security cameras, Fire TV Sticks and Kindle ereaders. And, if it's anything like last year's sale, we expect the seven-day event to cover thousands of products, from tech and homewares to everyday essentials.

Considering the sheer number of the best Amazon deals we see each week, a dedicated event that promises to improve its usual offering to Prime members is exciting in its own right. To help get an idea of what to expect in October, here are some of our favourite deals we saw in Australia during July's Prime Day sale.

Amazon Prime Day 2025 is coming in fast, five days to be exact. The member’s only shopping event kicks off on July 8, 2025, and for the first time ever will last for four days, and will likely bring with it thousands of deals across nearly every category on the site, including plenty of gadgets.

Now, as the name suggests, you’ll need to be a Prime member to take part and access the deals, but also get a host of other benefits like free, fast shipping on plenty of items. And Amazon is rolling out a pretty epic deal in a refresh of one of its Prime membership tiers. Prime for Young Adults has been updated, and it’s probably the most attractive offer leading into Prime in terms of subscription options.

It’s available if you fall between the age of 18 to 24 or are a student and is priced at a 50% discount compared to the standard Prime membership at just $7.49 a month or $69 for a whole year, but right now those eligible for the offer can get six months of Prime for Young Adults for free. You’ll either verify your eligibility with a government-issued ID or a .edu email address.

Beyond the fact that it will unlock Prime Day 2025 deals for you, it comes with a host of Prime membership perks. Yes, it’s the free, fast shipping, but it’s also access to Prime Video to stream TV shows and movies on one of the best streaming services, but also access to Amazon Music and Prime Gaming. You can also get GrubHub+ for free for delivery from participating restaurants in your area.

But there’s a hidden bonus of sorts, and that’s cash back on eligible purchases in select categories all year round. Those will stand as an annual perk, but for Prime Day 2025, Amazon is doubling it to 10% cash back on products within electronics, apparel, and beauty categories, among others. It’s not unlimited, though, as it’s capped at $500 per year; however, it’s an excellent perk that can help make a standard Prime Day discount even better.

Prime for Young Adults is a pretty stellar deal right now, especially if you meet the requirements to sign up, as you’ll get six months for free and unlock a whole host of perks. Now, if you’re like me and a bit jealous that you’re out of the age range, you can still sign up for Prime to unlock deals next week and score some perks; it just doesn’t have a six-month free trial, only 30-days.

The 4th of July is just around the corner, but this year’s sales have already kicked off in a big way. Major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowe’s, are all offering early deals across everything from appliances and summer essentials to tech and garden gear.

As TechRadar's deals editor, I've been scanning through all of this weekend's best sales, which you can see just below. Whether you're upgrading your kitchen or refreshing your backyard, there are plenty of savings to take advantage of without waiting for the big day.

Amazon, for instance, has announced that Prime Day will run from July 8 to 11, but early offers are already live. Prime members can grab exclusive perks like extended free trials for Audible, Kindle Unlimited, and Music Unlimited, while non-members can sign up for a free 30-day trial to unlock the same benefits. Over at Samsung, shoppers will find major discounts on appliances, TVs, and early sign-up bonuses for its upcoming foldable smartphones.

Meanwhile, tech fans can find some of the best laptop deals of the season at HP and Dell. HP is offering up to 50% off select models, plus extra savings with sitewide promo codes, while Dell has a 'Summer sale' with deep discounts on everything from budget laptops to high-end gaming PCs. If you’re shopping early this week, there’s no shortage of excellent 4th of July sales to explore.

Amazon has officially announced that the Prime Day 2025 sale will begin on Tuesday, July 8 at 12:01am AEST and run for a full seven days, ending at 11:59pm AEST on Monday, July 14. This makes it the longest Amazon sale ever, beating October's six-day Prime Big Deal Days sale. And, while Amazon has confirmed the event for 19 countries, Australia (and Singapore) will receive 72 more hours of discounts than the rest.

The best part about shopping on Amazon is the vast array of products available. You can buy anything from small office supplies and snacks, to big-ticket items like the best TVs and greatest phones, video games and exercise equipment. If past Amazon sales are any indication, you can expect heavy discounts on these items and many others.

Prime Day discounts are exclusive to Prime Members only – including limited-time 'lightning' deals. Luckily, if you're not a member, signing up for a 30-day free trial now will grant you access to all the best deals during the seven-day period. Plus, once you've had your fill, you can easily cancel your subscription.

What to expect from Prime Day 2025

As mentioned, basically anything goes when it comes to Prime Day. Right next to Black Friday and Boxing Day, it's the biggest sales period of the year. However, if our experience with previous sales is anything to go by, its own devices will be key sellers. This includes discounts on Echo smart speakers, Ring cameras and doorbells, Fire TV devices and, perhaps most importantly, Kindle ereaders.

You don't have to wait to save on Amazon, though. With EOFY sales taking Australia by storm, Amazon is still competing with the best weekly deals from retailers like JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys, even though its Mid-Year sale is now complete. If you need a few discounts to tide you over until July 8 or just want a taste of what we might see come Prime Day, these are our four favourite deals on Amazon at the moment.

Amazon's Big Smile Sale is the first big Amazon sale of the year and the second of a very busy March that started with Click Frenzy and also now includes Afterpay Day. If you’re the proud owner of an Xbox Series X, S or One, this deal might be the best of the bunch.

Right now, Amazon is offering 15% discounts on the entire range of digital codes for the Xbox store – letting you grab AU$100 of digital credit for just AU$85 (NZ$93.41) or AU$15 for AU$12.75 (NZ$14.01). Whether you're looking to buy Split Fiction, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Call of Duty skins or the latest Fortnite battlepass, you can do it for less with Amazon's Big Smile Sale.

Console gaming is certainly shifting to a digital-only landscape with the PlayStation 5 Pro – the most recent console release – not even coming with a built-in disc tray and costing AU$1,200! But it's no secret that most games are cheaper when you buy them physically from retailers like Amazon and JB Hi-Fi, too.

For example, Hogwarts Legacy (AU$59.95), Star Wars: Outlaws (AU$65.24) and Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AU$79) are all much cheaper on disc from Amazon. On the Xbox store all three games are currently over AU$100.

Of course, Microsoft curbs this with Game Pass, which allows you to play most games on the market for a small monthly subscription fee. If you're an Xbox gamer, chances are that you're a subscriber – but this deal is still a good pick-up.

There's no time limit on when you spend your digital credit, meaning you can wait for the best deal later in the year, or until that new blockbuster game finally releases (cough, Grand Theft Auto 6). You can also use your discounted store credit to buy those games you want to play that don't release on Game Pass.

Whatever you choose to spend your discounted credit on, there's no doubting the ease of buying digitally – and it's even more enticing 15% cheaper.

Alongside impressive ships from Star Wars and a highly-detailed replica of the Endurance ship, some of the most popular sets in recent history from The Lego Group have been from the Botanical theme, specifically flower offerings.

And alongside the latest sets in the line, like a Mini Orchid and a Flower Arrangement, Lego is celebrating its latest drop – not with a drone show, like it did for its space theme – but with pop-up Botanical Gardens in New York City, Atlanta, and Nashville. These are free to the public for this weekend, and you can score some freebies if you’re a Lego Insider – a free reward program – and check out the latest sets in real life.

I got the chance to head over to the New York City location to get a feel for the pop-up and to see the latest and greatest from the Lego Botanical lineup. Now I’m sharing my three favorites from the collection and where you can get them cause we all deserve a little treat as the first month of 2025 comes to a close. And with gift-giving moments on the horizon already, the Lego flower sets are some of the most-wanted.

Standing over 11 inches tall after you build the 325 pieces, Lucky Bamboo has to be my favorite addition to the Botanical lineup. It not only looks great but is ready to be displayed as you’ll build the small pot and stand complete with little Lego pebbles. You’ll end up with three bamboo stems at various heights in what will likely be a relaxing build.

The Lego Lucky Bamboo set is available now from Lego or Amazon for $29.99.

So new that it’s still up for preorder only is the Flower Arrangement, which is a set that goes a bit further than some of the previous bouquets that have been released. With this, you’ll build a range of flowers, including ranunculus, lilies, hydrangea, and peonies, among many others of varying sizes, but also a white vase that you’ll construct out of Lego bricks. This one could easily sit on a kitchen counter, a dining table, a nightstand, or even on a shelf.

Depending on which route in the building manual you choose, you can create one of two designs and add other Lego flowers to the vase. This is pretty neat and infinitely customizable. This set, which includes 1,161 pieces, is available for preorder at Lego for $109.99.

The full-sized Lego Orchid set is one of the originals and most popular – it’s actually been purchased over 10,000 times on Amazon this month – and now there is a miniature version that strikes its own chord. At just 274 pieces, it stands at over 10 inches with plenty of pedals, and like all other Lego flower sets, it never needs to be watered.

More precisely, you’ll build five Orchid flowers, a few leaves, and the pot on a faux-wooden plinth. This would likely make a great gift and an epic desk or living space addition.

The Mini Orchid is available now from Lego or Amazon for $29.99. The full-size Lego Orchid is also discounted on Amazon to just $39.99 from $49.99.

While these three are my current favorites in the Botanicals lineup from Lego, a few other sets are also on display, including some of the original flower themes.

Additionally, another standout was seeing the forthcoming, up for pre-order now, Lego take on Van Gogh's classic Sunflowers painting. Constructed out of 2,615 pieces, the Lego Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers adds another dimension to the classic painting as you'll build the flowers so that they protrude from the art itself. It's stunning in person and looks well worth the $199.99 price.

If you're sold, Lego is taking preorders now, and the set will ship from March 1, 2025.

The Boxing Day sales are technically over, but many retailers have deals running through to December 31. And while I'm sad Christmas is finished, I think this is the most wonderful day of the year. I have already seen some incredible deals in the weeks leading to Christmas – as early Boxing Day sales dropped across New Zealand – with hundreds able to be saved on kitchen appliances, the best stick vacuums, home security and more. Still, the best deals from New Zealand retailers like still Noel Leeming, PB Tech and Amazon AU came on Boxing Day proper.

With so many sales periods in 2024 – Black Friday and Cyber Monday, EOFY and mid-year sales, plus retailer-specific sales like Amazon Prime Day(s) – you might think Boxing Day sales have lost their lustre. But, Boxing Day is circled on my calendar for a reason, and if comes close to matching the prices we saw during Black Friday, you can expect all-time lows on premium tech.

Some stores, like JB Hi-Fi, offer on-demand delivery through services such as Uber This can be a lifesaver if you find a deal you love and want it delivered straight to your door without waiting. JB Hi-Fi offers two types of Uber deliveries in metro areas:

ASAP Delivery: Your order will be delivered within 90 minutes to 2 hours of placing it.

Scheduled Delivery: If available, you can select a 2-hour delivery window during the store’s operating hours.

Apple's shopping event has been almost identical to last year, which means gift cards rather than discounts on most of its current products – apart from recently-announced ones like the iPhone 16. And it's scheduled to end by midnight on December 2, so it's worth checking out if you're buying a gift for someone (or yourself).

For one thing, going with Apple makes trading in your old devices much easier, since you can grab a discount on a new device and offload your old one in a single transaction, instead of having to sell your vintage tech separately.

But on the other, most of Apple's gift card offers can be beaten by deals that are still on offer from retailers. For example, while Apple is offering money off some of its best iPads, you’ll find much better Cyber Monday iPad deals if you look further afield. Likewise, Apple has discounted the AirPods Pro 2, yet Walmart in the US is offering a much more attractive bargain.

Don’t expect to find all of the latest Apple products, though – the iPhone 16 range is entirely absent, as are all of the best MacBook Pros. Other key Apple devices are nowhere to be found, from the M4 Mac mini and Apple Watch Series 10 to the iPad mini 7. Presumably, it’s because all of these products are still pretty fresh.

Some of Apple’s accessories have received notable discounts, including the Apple Pencil Pro and the Beats Pill, which have seen their prices cut for the first time in an Apple shopping event. While countless retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and BestBuy have been serving up early Black Friday deals for what feels like weeks on all sorts of the latest kit – including Apple gadgets – the Cupertino-based giant has, like clockwork, unveiled its official 2024 Black Friday savings event.

Now, as we’ve come to expect, don’t expect a cash discount off the price, but when things kick off on November 29, 2024, you’ll be able to score a gift card with select purchases. So if you’ve been eyeing the latest iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or AirPods and want to buy from Apple directly, waiting and scoring a gift card might make sense.

Of course, many, if not all, of the devices Apple will offer this for, and others are already seeing significant savings from other retailers. In many cases, those are the best deals. But if you go with the official Apple route, consider stacking in a device trade-in alongside the gift card offer, as it can sweeten the deal.

Ahead, we’re sharing what you can expect and the devices eligible for this gift card promotion. It’ll kick off on November 29, 2024, and run through December 2, 2024, in the United States, the UK, Australia, and many other countries. Plus, you can shop it online or in-store.

Like in 2023, Apple’s using a tiered system where you can unlock a $25 / £20 / AU$40, $50 / £40 / AU$80, $75 / £60 / AU$120, $100 / £80 / AU$160, or $200 / £160 / AU$320 Gift Card – and as you might suspect, you’ll need to spend more to get a bigger gift card.

While Apple hasn’t yet confirmed the full values for every eligible device, we have a general idea of your score based on category.

iPhone

If you get an iPhone SE, iPhone 14, or iPhone 15, you can score up to a $75 / £60 / AU$120 Apple Gift Card. The iPhone SE and iPhone 14 might likely mean a gift card of lesser value.

iPad

While not every iPad is expected to be eligible – namely the recently launched iPad mini A17 Pro, though it is discounted elsewhere – Apple promises up to $100 / £80 / AU$160 gift card by purchasing an iPad 10th Generation, iPad Air, or iPad Pro.

Mac

Similar to the iPad mini, the latest Macs will likely not be eligible for the gift card promotion. However, if you’re considering the M2 or M3 MacBook Air, with the recently upgraded now standard 16GB of RAM, you’ll get up to a $200 / £160 / AU$320 Gift Card. And yes, both the 13-inch M2 and M3 and the 15-inch M3 are listed as eligible.

Apple Watch

While you won’t find savings directly at the Apple Store for the Apple Watch Series 10 or Apple Watch Ultra 2, you’ll get a $50 / £40 / AU$80 gift card by purchasing an Apple Watch SE second-generation.

AirPods

Whether you get AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, AirPods Pro 2, or AirPods Max, you’ll get up to a $50 / £40 / AU$80 gift card.

TV & Home

While there is no gift card eligibility for the HomePod mini, Apple will offer up to a $75 / £60 / AU$120 gift with the Apple TV 4K or HomePod.

Beats

Nearly the entire Beats lineup is eligible to score up to a $50 / £40 / AU$80 gift card with Beats Pill, Beats Flex, Beats Fit Pro, Beats Studio Buds Plus, Beats Solo Buds, Beats Solo 4, and Beats Studio Pro on the list.

Accessories

No, you won’t find savings on iPhone 16 cases, but Apple will offer up to $25 / £20 / AU$40 with some accessories. The Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil second-generation, Magic Keyboard, and Smart Folio for iPad Air, iPad Pro, and iPad tenth-generation cut.

The Apple AirTag is a Bluetooth location-tracking device that pairs with your iPhone. If you tend to misplace your keys or wallet, you can attach an AirTag to anything you don't want to lose, and your iPhone will locate it with Precision Finding technology.

While straight discounts used to be difficult to find outside of sales like Black Friday and Prime Day, you can typically find small discounts from third-party retailers to save on the starting price of $29 / £28 / AU$44 MSRP.

Another way to save is to find bundles. You can regularly see $15 or $25 off packs of 4 AirTags, so if you need all the tracking, it's well worth investing in the larger $ 99/£99 multi-pack.

Retailers like Apple and Amazon sell the Apple AirTag individually or in a four-pack. One Apple AirTag device costs $29/£28/AU$44, and a four-pack retails for $17/£13/AU$28.

Is the Apple AirTags price worth it?

Apple fans will think the Apple AirTags price is worth it because it works with your Apple devices to find lost items and a one-pack only retails for $29/£28/AU$44.

Another Bluetooth tracker, the Tile tracker, is compatible with both iOS and Android and requires you to download a separate app to track your stuff. Tile makes several different trackers, but the most similar to the Apple AirTag, the Tile Pro, is priced at $34.99/£29.99.

If you're an Android user, it's probably best to go with the Tile family, but Apple users should stick with the slightly cheaper AirTag.

We like to pride ourselves on our accurate estimations of Amazon's big sales like Prime Day, but guessing the date of the next one is no longer required – Amazon has officially confirmed that Prime Big Deal Days is returning this October. While we don't have an exact date just yet, last year's Big Deal Days sale started at the stroke of midnight on October 10 and 2022's equivalent sale started on October 11, so it's fairly safe to assume 2024's Prime Big Deal Days will also kick off in the second week of October. If it starts on the Tuesday, that would land on October 8, 2024.

Prime Big Deal Days will take place in 19 countries – Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Not all countries get the same benefit, though.  

Unlike Prime Day, in which Australia saw six days of deals compared to the United States' two, we expect each country to get the same 48-hour sale. However, we expect some countries such as Australia and Singapore to get an extended sale – usually around 65-hours based on previous events – due to the fact customers there can access deals from international storefronts including the US, UK and Japan.

While Amazon-branded products like Kindle, Ring and Echo speakers – which plaster our guides of the best ereaders, best video doorbells, best security cameras and best smart speakers – are sure to see hefty price-cuts, history leads us to assume we'll see a lot more than that.

July's Amazon Prime Day saw massive discounts from the likes of Nintendo, Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, Samsung, Apple and Dyson across a diverse range of products including gaming consoles, smartwatches and the best headphones, stick vacuums and cheap phones. But, while we expect a similar output in October, there's no word yet on specifics.

We've also got our fingers crossed for discounts to Amazon's premium services. We've seen services like Audible, Kindle Unlimited and Prime Video add-on subscriptions discounted for Prime sales before, and with Paramount Plus increasing prices this year, savings here would be welcomed.

Get the most out of October's Prime Big Deal Days Sale

If Amazon's same-day and next-day delivery, constant deals, and benefits like Prime Video haven't yet convinced you of its value, exclusive sales periods like Prime Big Days make it hard to ignore.

That's right, Prime Big Deal Days will be a Prime Member-exclusive, but that doesn't mean you have to shell out the coin for a subscription if you're yet to subscribe. New members get a 30-day free trial, so you can test out the service and gain access to the Prime-exclusive deals without paying for a subscription.

Amazon offers free domestic and international shipping on the majority of items for Prime members, so the discounted price you see is what you get. Plus, there are a range of Prime-only coupons added regularly, and Lightning Deals throughout sales events that provide even more bang for your buck if you've got your eye on the ball. 

It can still take a little work to make sure you're getting the best deals, though. We recommend keeping an eye on Amazon's best seller lists during the event to see what others are buying. You can also shop in advance, adding any desired items to your wishlist rather than cart – then, when the sale comes you can easily see which products are discounted. The Amazon app and these helpful Amazon-shopping tools also make shopping even easier, and ensure you're getting a good deal.

Prime Day is Amazon's annual shopping event solely for members of its Prime subscription service. This year, it takes place in the US, UK and many other countries over 23-26 June 2026 — which means it's about to get going very soon.

Unlike Black Friday and other holidays such as Memorial Day and Labor Day, which can also be great times to pick up a bargain, there's no interesting history behind Prime Day — it's simply a way for Amazon to push thousands of deals to its millions of subscribers.

Prime Day has expanded in recent years, having been a single-day thing when it was first held on July 15, 2015, to mark Amazon's 20th birthday. The 2025 event lasted for four days in many countries, and took place over as many as six days in Australia and Singapore. In 2026 it will again last for four days in the US and UK. In recent years Amazon has also run a second Prime Day event in October.

Of course, to take advantage of the deals you'll need to be an Amazon Prime member, although if you've never used it before you can sign up for a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial to get access to the deals. This will also let you enjoy the other membership benefits, including free shipping, access to Prime Video and more.

Below, you'll find all of the latest Prime Day deals and information.

After much speculation, the official dates for Amazon Prime Day in Australia have been revealed, and this year’s sale will last a full 6 days, kicking off at 00:00am AEST/SGT on Tuesday, July 16 and running all the way through until 11:59pm AEST/SGT on Sunday, July 21.

That's the longest Prime Day we've ever had, and as always, we expect it to deliver some of the best discounts on tech we'll see all year. We’ll be keeping a particularly close eye on prices of the best headphones, best tablets and the best cameras, but rest assured you'll find all of the best deals in our dedicated Prime Day deals hub.

Amazon is also promising big savings on the likes of Apple, Samsung, Dyson and Bose, among other big-name brands.

Of course, Amazon Prime Day deals are predominantly only available to Prime members (hence the name) but we do occasionally see some discounts open to all. If you’re not yet a Prime member but you want to take advantage of the best discounts, you can sign-up for a free 30-day trial today and even cancel it immediately, yet still be eligible for Prime Day deals.

While Amazon Prime isn't available as a subscription service in New Zealand, Kiwi shoppers will be able to partake as well as some of the discounted items will ship across ditch for free – just check the product listing on the retailer site for the delivery information.

And shoppers in Singapore will also be treated to a six-day deals fest, with plenty of discounts on local and international brands. 

Prime yourself for Prime Day

Now that Amazon has officially revealed the dates for Prime Day in Australia and Singapore as being July 16, 2024 until July 21, 2024, now is a good a time as any to make sure you're prepped and ready. You can read our full guide to the sales event in our dedicated hub, but essentially, our best advice is to jump onto Amazon as soon as you can after the Prime Day sale begins, because discounts don't always hang around forever, or they can sell out quickly.

Amazon Prime Day has become one of the biggest and best sales events in Australia in recent years, usually bested only by Black Friday, if at all, and on the very rare occasion by EOFY. Not only do we get deals from the local Amazon AU store, but we're also treated to discounts from international stores, including those in the US, UK, Germany and Japan. Because of this, Prime Day in Australia tends to last longer than the equivalent events in other territories. If you plan on participating this year, then we always suggest purchasing whatever it is you're after, if you like the price you see.

Samsung takes much of what it learns from the Galaxy S family and brings it to the Galaxy A54, so the design is strikingly familiar if you’ve ever seen Samsung’s premiere Galaxy S23 Ultra. It has great displays and fine cameras for a phone in this price range — much more versatile than competitors from Motorola and OnePlus. 

Best of all, the Galaxy A54 5G is durable. It is water resistant with IP67 certification, so you can drop it into the pool without worry. It also uses sturdy Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, so it should survive minor scrapes and falls. 

Make sure you get the correct model, especially if you’re going to be using this phone in the US. There is a slightly cheaper version at Amazon that is meant for Latin American networks. It will work on T-Mobile, but not as well on Verizon and AT&T. Look for the US networks model, or whatever is appropriate for your region.

Cyber Monday is the now-slightly-awkwardly named counterpart to Black Friday: another 24 hours of full-on shopping frenzy during which retailers slash the prices of thousands of popular products. It always takes place on the Monday after Black Friday, which means that this year it takes place on Monday, 1 December 2025.

It was created by US retailers in 2005 to encourage people to shop online, back when Black Friday itself was still far more of an in-person event. It quickly became one of the busiest shopping days of the year, but is now slightly overshadowed by Black Friday, given that many people buy their Black Friday deals online anyway. That said, it is still a significant shopping day, with some $11.3 billion spent by US consumers on Cyber Monday 2022.

Remember pre-internet Black Friday sales, when anxious shoppers would all but trample each other to get their hands on the last Furbee or Nintendo Wii? I think they were onto something. "While supplies last" isn't just a cliche; it's a fact of the online Black Friday Deals marketplace, and you'd do well to heed it and take action while the deals are hot.

Without giving too much away, I've been perusing a bunch of early Black Friday deals for possible gifts for my wife. There are a lot of options across, clothes, jewelry, and, of course, technology. 

TechRadar, in particular, has done an excellent job of scouring the Internet for the best deals from top retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, and across the pond, Curry's and John Lewis. In most of our posts on these deals, we remind consumers to act now because, one, prices are unlikely to drop lower (the official  Black Friday, Nov. 24, is basically hours away), and supplies may be limited.

To be honest, I read some of that with a wry grin on my face, thinking, "Oh, sure, supplies of something Samsung, Apple, Google, Amazon, or another tech giant produces in the millions will be limited. Right."

It's for that reason that when I found the perfect tech gift for my wife, I only placed it in my Amazon basket and did not buy it. Maybe it was because it wasn't quite perfect. I also wondered if I'd see one more price drop. In my hubris, I assumed I had all the time in the world to make up my mind.

Except I didn't.

When I returned to my Amazon cart a day or so later, I noticed it was empty. "That's odd," I thought, "since when does Amazon empty a cart?"

Amazon did so because, as it posted in red on my defunct cart selection, "This item is no longer available from the seller you selected."

In other words, the deal was gone because it sold out. Of course, it sold out. This was a great deal, and other, smarter shoppers did not hesitate and let the gift languish in their shopping cart. Me? I did the equivalent of picking up ripe bananas at the local food store, dropping them in my cart, and then returning to the store and cart a week later, wondering why the clerk had thrown out the rotten bananas I had never bought.

Not every gear or gadget will be in short supply. Streaming service Black Friday deals, for example, won't run out, but most of the deals are for a very limited time.

Also, when we tell you that this is the lowest price a product has ever been, that should mean something to you. Rock bottom means rock bottom. Don't sit around waiting for one more price drop that will never come.

If you're looking at Black Friday as some sort of trick, where retailers and companies are not offering the best deals, and they will give you another chance with a better price in mid-December, you're wrong.

They all want to sell as much as they can right now, and their goal is to empty shelves and sell out inventory. That's why the prices are so good.

My advice to you is simple. Don't be like me. If you see a good deal, put it in your cart and head right to checkout. You're welcome.

There's no denying that Black Friday deals are pretty exciting, especially if you've been waiting all year to get your hands on the gadget you've been yearning for. 

However, it's easy to get caught up in that excitement and make a poor buying choice, and that's where we come in. We're deals experts who spend all-year reviewing products, assessing their value and keeping our fingers on the pulse to see when an excellent deal brings the price down.

To help you get the most out of Black Friday, our panel of deals experts have put together this list of the most common mistakes we see people make every year and some tips for how to avoid wasting your hard-earned cash this year.

1. Buying from no-name brands

Every tech brand has to start somewhere and, sometimes, you'll find the perfect Black Friday gadget deal from a company that you’ve never heard of before. It might be a fantastic purchase, and you've also helped this tiny brand on its journey to global dominance.

Sadly, most of the time, no-name brands are unknown for a reason. The gadgets they make look just like the real deal. Maybe they’ve replicated an Apple Watch, made a smartphone that looks as good as your best Samsung Galaxy phone, or built an air fryer with Ninja style. However, you’ll want to take a hard look at the specs because no-name brands often cut corners by using the cheapest components or leaving some out altogether. A $49 “Smart Peach Watch” will not do as much as the real thing.

In other cases, the tech gear might look just as good as a product from a big-name brand, but when you get it you see it’s twice the size and, worse yet, shoddily made.

Finally, read the reviews. How well are these tiny brands supporting people who buy the products? Were the customers satisfied? Did the Black Friday deal add up to an impressive gadget or small-name-big-time disappointment?

2. Falling for fake reviews

This one is so common we have a whole article dedicated to teching you how to spot fake Amazon reviews, but it's one of the easiest ways to get duped during Black Friday. 

Some retailers are better than others at moderating fake reviews, but with Amazon in particular being the internet's largest marketplace, even the company itself has fessed up to struggling to combat fake reviews. 

The best way to protect yourself here is to do your research and not just take the overall star rating at face value. Read the reviews, checking for overly promotional language and errors, look for well-balanced opinions from 3-4 star ratings and investigate both brands and reviewer profiles to see how reliable a source they are.

I'm biased, because I think we're great, but you should also make sure to read reviews from trusted sites like TechRadar to get a balanced, journalistic review from the pros. I promise, we're really quite good at our jobs.

3. Not checking hardware specifications

In the rush to find the best deal on Black Friday, your attention might be grabbed by huge price cuts and record-low prices, but you should always read the small print – especially when it comes to hardware specifications.

In previous Black Fridays, we’ve seen big brands push deals that on closer inspection aren’t as good as they first appear, with the devices sometimes coming with older or just plain underpowered hardware.

Many retailers use Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a way to clear out old stock – and while that can often lead to some brilliant deals on older, but still good, tech – if you don’t know for certain what you’re buying, you could end up with a purchase that’s not right for you.

For example, in the past I’ve seen Windows 11 laptops being sold for impressively low prices – but when doing a bit more research, I saw that the RAM was incredibly low (never go for less than 8GB for a Windows laptop) and storage was minimal.

While knowing the specifications is important when looking for Black Friday laptop deals, it also goes for pretty much any tech. Looking for a new vacuum? Check the battery life. Fancy a new 4K TV to play your PS5 on? Make sure you know what the screen tech is (LED, OLED, etc) and whether it has HDMI 2.1 for playing 4K games at 120Hz. By carefully checking the specs before you buy, you can avoid any nasty post-Black Friday surprises.

4. Don’t be blinded by high percentage discounts

In some cases, retailers will show 40% or 50% off a product compared to the original list price, which is obviously always tempting! But there are some products that are almost never actually sold for their list price around Black Friday. 

TVs are the classic example of this: a price that appears to be a 40% cut might be only 5% cheaper than last week, and not actually the cheapest that product has been this year - that's exactly why we offer price trend insight in our coverage where possible.

Equally, a TV that only shows a 15% price cut might actually be a record low and a bargain – it’s just that the discount percentage is actually accurate compared to last week. So focus on the price, not the discount. 

Don’t break your budget to get something that seems like a mega-deal on paper when there might be something comparable within your budget that’s the real deal, even if it’s less flashy.

5. Going in without a plan

As the old adage says, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” and while the stakes aren't super-high when it comes to securing Black Friday deals, it's good to have a plan in mind with what you want to get and how much you want to pay. 

That’s because there’s a heck of a lot of discounted products seemingly masquerading as great deals, when in reality they only look attractive due to their original list price that may not have been in place for some time, yet gets touted by the likes of Amazon. Do be prepared to sift out what’s a good deal and what’s not. 

To do that, you’re in the right place, as we’ll be flagging the best deals in a variety of categories based on our expert testing and experience. So part of your plan should include checking with us before hitting buy on what looks like a bargain. 

Other planning and prep work can include working out a budget of what you are willing to spend, plotting out times on when to check for deals, selecting sites for comparing deals – seeing if Best Buy can undercut Walmart, for example – and ensuring you’re signed up to retailer memberships like Amazon Prime that can offer exclusive deals.  It's also worth signing up for newsletters and notifications from deal-centric brands, including those provided by TechRadar, that’ll flag compelling bargains as and when they happen. Good hunting! 

6. Getting desperate

We've all been there - it's the big day itself, you need a new cheap TV, but none of the models you've researched or want are on sale. Or, if they are on sale, they're at a price that's unremarkable but you somehow feel obliged to lay down that hard earned cash. My advice - don't get backed into a corner on Black Friday. 

If there's one thing that strikes me from covering Black Friday for over seven years, it's that Black Friday is no longer constrained to a single calendar date. 

What was once a one-day-only event has evolved into a much, much wider period of discounts. Simply put, you don't have to feel desperate if you don't spot a deal to your liking on the big day itself - there's always the following Cyber Monday deals three days later, for example.

Generally speaking, Cyber Monday will either bring a fresh round of deals to check out or offer a continuation of Black Friday's offerings. If you're unsure about whether to commit, it's usually safe to wait it out until Monday to make a decision. In some cases, some retailers even extend their sales out to mid December (although, the discounts aren't quite as good according to Adobe's 2023 Holiday shopping forecast).

With Black Friday deals come great excitement – and, of course, plenty of fantastic discounts on some of the most desirable gadgets and devices available.

However, we all know by now that you're never quite safe on the world wide web, which could just as easily be renamed the Wild Wild West at this point, with bad actors always at the ready to make a quick buck.

Fake reviews, whether in the form of falsified Apple App store reviews or dangerous extensions on the Google Chrome Store, are low-hanging fruit for scammers, and make it a whole lot harder to identify the truth when shopping online.

That's not to say all customer reviews out there are fake – plenty of users take the time to legitimately express their thoughts. But when the time comes to finally splash your savings during a sales event, it’s important to consider that not all is always as it seems.

How to identify fake reviews

We spend a lot of time reading reviews, whether they're TechRadar's own or from customers on retail sites like Amazon, and our whole team has become pretty adept at separating the fake from the real. Here are some top tips to keep you safe this Black Friday:

• Read reviews carefully: It sounds obvious, but your best bet to protect yourself is to really interrogate the reviews. Content farms are often the culprits behind fake reviews, so look out for an abnormally high number of spelling and grammar mistakes.
• Check the language: Overly promotional language, especially where reviewers are parroting the marketing messaging from products, is a dead giveaway – when you talk about your favorite headphones, you probably wouldn't harp on about "industry-leading, bespoke and game-changing" technology, for example.
• Sort by most recent: Generally speaking, brands will inflate the product's ratings as close to its release as possible, and it's pretty easy to inflate a review's helpfulness over time to push it higher up in the reviews section. Sorting by 'Most recent' gives you better odds of finding real, contemporary reviews.
• Look for well-balanced opinions: It's rare that anything will ever tick every box, but fake reviews will often highlight only positives. 
• Investigate brands and reviewer profiles: Generally, we'd strongly advise against purchasing from no-name or dupe brands, but if you're intent on at least exploring the idea, research the brand online; do they have a website, are there company listings and does their business seem legitimate? Similarly, check out customer review profiles for overly fake or common names, and high volumes of repeatedly hyper-positive or hyper-negative reviews.
• Read reviews from trusted sites: Obviously, we're a little biased, but whether it's reviews on TechRadar or one of the many tech review sites online that you trust, make sure to double-check what the experts say about products you're thinking of buying.

Amazon tackling fake reviews

Amazon is no stranger to review stuffing (where positive reviews are published as a favor, or in return for ill-gotten gains) and has been at the center of media attention on the matter.

These forged reviews take various forms; from small-scale operations involving falsified reviews from family and friends all the way to large operations with businesses dedicated to the sale of bulk fake Amazon reviews. Previously, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has even had to weigh in against fake review groups on social media sites.

Things were made even more confusing when Amazon introduced global ratings into the product review section, which pooled together reviews from around the world. In some countries, the product available has very different specs, and in some cases completely different.

Plus, with the removal of the comments section and the addition of one-tap reviews, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to verify the validity of customer feedback.

Amazon does regularly remove fraudulent reviews, and even ceased operation of its Chinese marketplace following difficulties in monitoring and growth. However, it’s fair to say it has a pretty mammoth task at hand, with a 2021 blog post from Amazon stating it has more than 300 million active customers and over 1.9 million selling partners worldwide.

According to the post, in 2020 Amazon stopped "more than 200 million suspected fake reviews before they were ever seen by a customer", and over 99% of reviews enforcement was driven by proactive detection.

An Amazon spokesperson highlighted to TechRadar back in 2021 the company's set of policies for both reviewers and selling partners, expressing a commitment to "suspend, ban and take legal action against those who violate these policies."

The spokesperson added to this, saying Amazon uses "powerful machine learning tools and skilled investigators to analyze over 10 million review submissions weekly, aiming to stop abusive reviews before they are ever published.

"In addition, we continue to monitor all existing reviews for signs of abuse and quickly take action if we find an issue. We also proactively work with social media sites to report bad actors who are cultivating abusive reviews outside our store."

Trust the experts

While Amazon continues to work behind the scenes to minimize the impact of fake reviews, they seem to be here to stay in all corners of the internet. However, there’s plenty you can do to protect yourself.

There are some easy-to-spot red flags; overly promotional language, repeated reviews, reviews for an entirely different product, etc. Still, it can take a fair bit of legwork when you are trying to make a choice - especially a quick one on Prime Day. 

We spoke with Saoud Khalifa, CEO and founder of FakeSpot, as well as Tommy Noonan, founder of ReviewMeta, to learn more about the issues around fake reviews.

While Noonan noted ReviewMeta's data hasn’t shown a change in the rate of fake reviews posted, Khalifa's FakeSpot tool noted an influx of fake reviews over the course of lockdown in 2020. 

Where previously they made up an average of 25-30% of all global reviews, as of June/July 2020, this spiked to 40-45% according to FakeSpot's data - a number Khalifa had never seen before.

He says the issue comes from the volume of sellers using the site as a "valet service", claiming it is "impossible for Amazon to check if every product and review is legitimate or not."

As highlighted in Amazon's recent blog post, social media groups play a big role in the current fake review market. 

Noonan says sellers in these groups will pay members to purchase and review products: “Reviewers are using their own money to buy the product, so the reviews still have the ’Verified Purchaser’ badge.  

Additionally, Noonan says, many sellers are incentivizing reviews by giving promotions away with packages. "They will use tricks like pre-screening customer feedback before asking for a review, and even asking people to change their reviews to 5-stars before they get the free gift. 

"This is against Amazon ToS, but I'm personally seeing a note like this in about 35% of my Amazon purchases."

Beyond the surface-level information a consumer can pick up from a quick glance at a listing, there's a lot of deeper information that can help to make an informed decision. 

Noonan highlights unverified purchases, "easy grader" reviewers who give everything 5-stars, batches of reviews in close succession, as well as the kind of language used in reviews as authenticity indicators that ReviewMeta checks for.

Aside from the quality issues that may come with cheaply made products slipping through the net on Amazon, there are legitimate concerns around how fake reviews can also mask counterfeit items. 

Khalifa highlights how there are counterfeits of everything from Apple products to gaming equipment and components from brands like Nvidia and AMD available on the site, purchasable in bulk from sites like Alibaba and Aliexpress.

Using components as an example, he says: "A lot of people question us when we give F-Grades to listings like these. It's because the listings are known to have counterfeits on sale and use fake reviews to hide it. 

“You read the reviews, buy the product, and don't expect it to be a counterfeit, but it’s an insidious problem that won't show up until the component overheats.”

Thankfully, tools like ReviewMeta and FakeSpot provide customers with a way to more quickly and effectively shop safely on Amazon this Prime Day.

Noonan says: "We leverage algorithms and data science to examine hundreds of millions of reviews and help identify suspicious patterns in the reviews."

FakeSpot also has a site with a similar function, as well as a browser add-on for Chrome or Firefox and an app that augments the buyer's journey as they shop online with a set of features. 

The first is FakeSpot's review ratings, which uses an A-F grading system to score the reliability and trustworthiness of reviews. Next is FakeSpot Guard, a tool that highlights sellers known to trade counterfeit products, which was added in 2020 after the team identified a rise in counterfeit issues. Lastly is the highlights feature, which delivers the most crucial top-line review information for users.

Amazon Prime Day is an exciting time to get a great deal – so make sure it's actually a good deal you’re getting.

Whether it's by remaining skeptical and investigating reviews yourself or using tools to do the legwork for you, it’s more important than ever to protect yourself online against deceptive promotional tactics.

Black Friday is the year's biggest shopping event, when retailers across the world cut their prices ahead of the holiday season.

Though the date shifts each year, it always takes place on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In 2025, Black Friday will be on Friday, November 28. And yes, that means that it's today!

Black Friday started out as an in-store event in shops across the US, but has now mainly moved online, with the likes of Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target competing to offer the best deals.

Opinion is divided as to why it's called Black Friday, but the first known mention of the term in relation to shopping dates from November 1951, when the journal Factory Management and Maintenance used it to describe people calling in sick the day after Thanksgiving so they could have an extra day off work.
