Verdict

The Motorola One Hyper is an all-screen 64MP smartphone that comes in at a fantastic price, given everything it does.

Its all-screen front is striking in all the right ways, and the 64MP primary camera around the back impresses with sharp detail across lighting conditions.

While it has got some screen cropping issues that gamers might take issue with, there’s no optical zoom on board, and taking snaps can take a bit of time, its primary camera captures great images for the price and all things considered, it’s a very good phone.

Who's this for?

If you’re looking for an edge-to-edge upgrade but don’t want to break the bank, then Motorola’s One Hyper is a great phone that should check most people’s boxes. Unless you’re a gamer or a camera nut who needs a telephoto lens, it’s definitely worth considering.

Should you buy it?

Provided it checks your boxes with its big screen, affordable price, decent primary camera, plenty of storage, and day-long battery life, yes. The only kind of phone users who might want to give it a miss are power users who need flagship features like wireless charging and top-tier gaming clout.

Competition

There are a number of rival handsets you might want to consider, such as the following three.

Oppo Reno Z

It may cost a bit more, but the Oppo Reno Z comes loaded with an under-display fingerprint scanner and an AMOLED screen for a punchier picture. With premium styling and a 48MP camera, it’s still a great balance of flagship and mid-range, though its interface is a touch heavier than that of the Motorola One Hyper.

Honor 20

If you want a more premium design, more cameras, more power, and can deal with a punch-hole in the screen, the Honor 20 is an excellent smartphone loaded up with a beefier chipset. That makes it better suited to gaming, and with its smaller screen, it’s also a bit more manageable in the hand.

Huawei P30 Lite New Edition

Huawei has re-released its P30 Lite with more storage and RAM for 2020. It's one of the lowest cost phones around to pack 256GB of storage, and while its chipset is a middling mid-ranger, its styling is premium glass around the back and front, making it more luxurious than the Motorola One Hyper.
