The best Alexa Skills and commands 2021: the ultimate in Amazon Echo tips and tricks

The Amazon Echo or any other Alexa-enabled device can help you cook up a storm (or order takeout if it all goes wrong) with this fine collection of Alexa skills.

Jamie Oliver Alexa skills

Jamie Oliver was the first celebrity chef to have an Alexa skill for the Amazon Echo. Install it, then simply ask "Alexa, ask Jamie Oliver for a recipe idea for tonight" for some inspiration.

Alexa will tell you the time  and difficulty of the recipe, and the ingredients you need. Say "Alexa, more information" to get the steps emailed to you, otherwise say "No" to move on to the next recipe. Happy cooking.

Just Eat Alexa skills

Don't fancy cooking for yourself? We hear you. The Just Eat Amazon Alexa skill lets you quickly and easily order a meal for delivery.

For example, you could say "Alexa, ask Just Eat to re-order my last Chinese", or "Alexa, ask Just Eat where's my meal?" to find out when it's being delivered.

Domino's Pizza Alexa skills

Fancy getting a pizza? The Domino's Pizza Alexa skill lets you quickly order your favourite pizza, and then keep track of when it's going to be delivered so you can get the table ready.

You can say "Alexa, open Domino's and place my Easy Order" to order it, and "Alexa, ask Domino's to track my order" to find out when it's going to arrive.

To use the Domino's Pizza Alexa skill you'll need to create a Domino's Pizza Profile, where you'll configure your favorite pizzas.

The Bartender Alexa skills

This Amazon Echo skill turns Alexa into your own virtual bartender (sort of) by bringing over 12,000 cocktail recipes to your device.

You can ask Alexa what the ingredients are for a certain cocktail (for example "Alexa, ask the bartender, what's in a Tom Collins?") or get a random recipe with "Alexa, ask the bartender to surprise me".

BBC Good Food (UK only)

If you have the Amazon Echo Show, you can now enable the BBC Good Food skill. With access to hundreds of recipes, this skill allows you to ask your Echo Show for recipes by ingredient, dish name, cooking method, meal type or even cuisine. One of the best things about this skill is that you won't need to ruin your Echo Show's screen with your dirty hands while cooking; simply ask Alexa to give you the next instruction when you're ready.

Sainsbury's Alexa skill (UK only)

If you live in the UK, the Alexa Sainsbury's skill is a great one to add to your collection. It's great for those who like to do their online shopping with Sainsbury's, because as you're cooking - or whenever really - you can ask Alexa to add new items to your trolley. And they'll be there next time you put a food order through. It saves making endless lists on notepads or on your phone.
