• Wix has confirmed plans to lay off around one in five workers

Wix CEO Avishai Abrahami confirmed in an X post that the company will be laying off around 20% of its workers as a result of an ongoing restructuring initiative set to affect all departments.

Among the reasons cited for the mass layoffs were currency and exchange rate pressures, with many of the company's workers and a large portion of its operating costs housed in Israel, under the Israeli Shekel.

Conversely, a lot of company revenue is Dollar-dominated, which has created a significant gap in currency sustainability.

AI, streamlining and missed earnings

"In the past few quarters the exchange rate between the Shekel and the US dollar has shifted significantly," he said. "This creates a structural pressure on our ability to operate at our current scale."

Additionally, the CEO unsurprisingly blamed artificial intelligence for the shakeup. "We have witnessed the most significant shift in how companies are built since the invention of modern programming languages in the 1970s," the leader stated.

Abrahami explained that companies like Wix must 'rewire' how they operate, leading to major job cuts. But the leader didn't rule out future hires, noting the creation of new roles like Xengineer and Creators already.

He also become one of a growing number of business leaders to cite the need to flatten organizational hierarchy to streamline efficiency. He hopes a leaner will will enable faster decisions to be more agile to shifts in tech capabilities and customer trends.

Though the finer details are under wraps, affected workers are being promised "personally curated separation packages."

Company shares are down around 1.5% following the announcement, and worse still, down around 47.9% this year to date following a major first-quarter earnings miss where adjusted EPS stood at $0.68 compared with Wall Street forecasts of $1.22.

When I’m not writing about the latest tech innovations in the B2B space, I like to put on special clothing that resembles pajamas and attempt to throw other people around a padded room.

As odd as that sounds, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has exploded in popularity in recent years. So much so that after 15 years of training, I have been able to start my own BJJ gym in a small town with just 10,000 residents, many of whom are at retirement age.

Most people told me this wouldn’t work. But after two years, we have built an incredible community and a growing student base.

I’ve achieved this entirely as a ‘side hustle’ by using Wix’s all-in-one business platform. It’s helped me automate essential communications, seamlessly manage my bookings, set up a no-fuss online store, and speed up money management tasks. However, some of its AI tools have lacked the personal touch required for a local business.

Below, I outline my challenges, successes, and failures when using Wix over the past two years.

Why I picked Wix

Before I launched Borderlands Grappling, I had already used Wix to build and host several websites for small projects and personal branding. However, I have since moved my main personal website to Hostinger.

As I run this business entirely in my spare time, Wix was a natural choice. Firstly, it was affordable, with plans starting at $17/mo. I self-funded the business and launched it on a shoestring budget. Once essentials like gym mats, insurance, and training were paid for, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on software before I had any evidence that it could be a success.

Wix neatly packaged almost every tool I needed into one platform. Not only did this save me money on multiple subscriptions, but it also made things more efficient – crucial for a time-poor business owner.

What I've used

Website builder and editor

Honestly, Wix’s array of website builders and editors is a little confusing. You can build using the Wix AI website builder if you want a super rapid result, or you can use Wix Harmony for more control. Alternatively, you can use Wix Studio if you are a website-building professional.

Not all of these options were available when I built my site, which simplified things. I picked a template and then used the Wix Editor to make it my own. If I wanted to follow the same process today, I would have to take the Wix Harmony option.

Frustratingly, if you want to use the tools offered by Wix Studio, you need to build the site in Wix Studio. This means that if I wanted more control now, I’d have to build my site from the ground up – no thanks.

That being said, as this is a side hustle, I need to balance quality with convenience, and using Studio would likely complicate things. The Wix Editor is super easy to use, and I haven’t run into any real problems while populating my website.

Money management

Running my business as a side hustle means I don’t want to spend ages dealing with the logistics of money. Getting set up for taking payments and managing money on Wix can take a little time, but once it’s done, it mostly runs on its own.

Throughout the day, I get notifications of people making bookings, making payments, and automatic transfers to my bank account.

Wix’s pay links have also been super helpful for keeping ad hoc payments within the same ecosystem as all other payments. They typically take less than 20 seconds to create, and I’ve had feedback from customers on how easy it is to pay via the links.

Booking system

Wix’s booking system was a huge pull for me. With limited time, I didn’t want to be manually dealing with bookings and payments, and with a limited budget, I couldn’t really afford the fancy booking systems that some other gyms use.

We have limited space in the gym, so I need to limit classes to keep them safe. Wix’s booking system made it simple to set class limits, which cut off students’ ability to book once it’s full.

As we’ve grown, we’ve taken on additional instructors and operate across different locations. Dealing with this has been super easy on Wix, with each of my instructors getting notifications about only their classes.

It’s hard to say much more about the booking system, other than that, for what I use it for, it just works.

AI marketing assistant

In mid-2025, Wix launched its Wix marketing assistant. Being time poor, it made sense to explore this feature for my business, and I saw mixed results.

The AI Marketing Assistant offers support across SEO, paid ads, social media, and email marketing.

Apart from paid ads (I don’t run them), I turned them all on to start. Right now, only the SEO assistant is still running. I find this assistant helpful for its SEO suggestions that target my blog posts and pages. Given the nature of my business, local SEO and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) are super important.

I found the AI-generated blog posts, email marketing campaigns, and social media content far too generic for my business, especially the images. We are local and keep things super personal. Most of the content we post is about what's happened/happening/going to happen at the club, but the content the AI produced just didn’t hit the mark.

I expect this type of content may be better suited to businesses that target national or global audiences. Even then, it would need a high degree of human oversight to make it fit for purpose.

Email marketing

Email marketing has become an essential part of engaging with my current and potential future students. I’ve been using Wix’s email marketing platform to send regular updates on what’s happening at the club, offers we are running, and a monthly newsletter.

Everyone who subscribes via the website is added to my contacts, making managing lists easy. The email editor is basic compared to more advanced platforms like MailChimp, but it offers everything you need to send regular, attractive emails. Templates and themes make it much quicker to send consistently branded and formatted emails.

For a side hustle, it meets all my needs; for anything more advanced, you’d need to look elsewhere.

Analytics

Wix offers all the analytics you expect from a website platform, with some helpful additions like ‘user queries’ on AI.

You can dive deep into the analytics, but you can also build a customized snapshot for your homepage.

Watching bookings and traffic happen in real time can be addictive, although not especially helpful. However, you can also watch visitors as they journey through your site, which, although it feels a little creepy, can give you helpful insight into how people use your site and where bottlenecks might be.

Automations

Although I didn’t originally pick Wix for its automations, it has been a massive time saver for me.

Each time someone books a class, there is important safety information they need to read and forms they need to fill out. Automating an email for when someone made their first booking was as easy as selecting the trigger, then designing the email and hitting ‘publish’.

As I use Wix Forms, I also get a handy notification once a form is completed. However, it would be easier to ensure no one falls through the gaps if Wix let you see a list of your contacts with a note on which ones had completed which form.

I’ve also been able to use automations for marketing purposes, such as requesting reviews after a certain number of sessions, helping me grow without extra legwork.

Over the last couple of years, I have had a couple of occasions where the automations randomly broke, leading to some confusion and time fixing them, but overall, they have saved me much more time than they have taken from me.

Dropshipping

Community and brand are a big part of Borderlands Grappling, and our members proudly wear our merch. But with limited space and funds, I didn’t want to hold piles of hoodies and t-shirts in various sizes. This is where Wix’s integration with dropshipping provider Printful came in helpful.

By connecting my Wix store with Printful, I could design and sell merchandise without ever having to hold stock. People simply order from our online store, and Printful fulfils it on my behalf.

It works perfectly for my needs, but profits are low. With convenience comes high costs, which means adding anything more than a tiny percentage of profit to each item is impractical.

For me, dropshipping lets me build community and get our brand out in the local area.

Would I recommend Wix for side hustlers?

There are endless options when it comes to launching a business website. Code from scratch, pick from one of the best website builders, use a CMS, select a hosting provider – the list goes on.

Which approach is right for you depends on your situation. Wix isn’t the cheapest option, but it is affordable. It keeps things simple with everything in one place, but this can also limit flexibility in some areas.

Some businesses will outgrow Wix, needing more advanced features and tools. But Wix is a great place to start, especially for those who run side hustles.

The launch will see users able to build a professional-grade Wix Harmony website directly within the ChatGPT interface, using the ChatGPT prompt “@Wix” to begin.

Built using OpenAI’s Apps SDK and powered by Wix’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), the service can be started with text or voice, giving builders a whole new way to kick-start their development.

How to create a website with Wix

After creating the website, users can add relevant business capabilities, analyze the performance, or implement changes, all through natural language - and users who are already using Wix can now connect the new app and manage their assets through ChatGPT.

“By adding another powerful entry point to Wix Harmony, we’re making it even easier for anyone to start, run and grow their online presence in the environments they already use every day,” said Shahar Talmi, GM of Developer Platform at Wix.

The company stressed that every app created this way runs on Wix’s enterprise-grade infrastructure, and comes with ecommerce, scheduling, payments, SEO, and other capabilities, by default.

The Wix app is now available to ChatGPT users in markets where the app directory is supported.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro earlier this week, Wix and Intuit said that Wix users can now connect directly to QuickBooks Online inside the Intuit ecosystem. If you’re not aware of QuickBooks Online, it is a cloud-based accounting software designed primarily for small and medium-sized businesses.

The integration means that accounting data, such as revenue, expenses, cash flow, and tax estimates, can sync more smoothly with Wix stores and websites, instead of exporting spreadsheets or manually reconciling sales.

On the Wix side of things, it means that QuickBooks customers can create and manage a Wix website directly from the platform. So, if you’re a small business already using Intuit’s accounting tools, you can spin up a Wix site without leaving the environment.

Intrinsically complementary

Ilan Shaki, GM of Channels at Wix, said the two companies are “intrinsically complementary,” and by joining forces, they can provide “immense value” for their shared users. Indeed, Wix will get access to QuickBooks’ massive SMB customer base, while Intuit will keep QuickBooks users inside its ecosystem longer, instead of having them go elsewhere.

“We’re bringing together Intuit’s extensive QuickBooks SMB customer base and deep financial management expertise with Wix's industry-leading website creation and ecommerce capabilities, co-creating an experience that delivers unprecedented value to mutual and future users,” Shaki explained. “This partnership reflects our shared vision of simplifying business management for users worldwide.”

Although it is not specifically mentioned, it appears the integration is now live, and users on both ends can benefit from the new partnership even today. According to Wix, the partnership simply connects the platforms, so costs depend on the user's selected plan.

Wix has taken its AI-powered website creation to the next level with the introduction of Wix Harmony.

In the last couple of months, most of the best website builder companies introduced generative artificial intelligence (AI), letting builders “vibe code” their sites. In theory, they would simply tell the chatbot what kind of website they needed, and the AI would generate the entire site, content and all.

For Wix, there are multiple problems with that approach:

The biggest problem is that the websites are either demos or lightweight MVSs, instead of full-scale, production-ready websites. These sites are created in a “bubble”, and, as such, can include bugs, security gaps, and code that cannot scale. The second problem is the rigidity of the designs, making it difficult to tweak and optimize the AI’s output.

Solving the problem with Aria

Wix says Harmony solves that problem by merging human and artificial intelligence. At the core of the product is Aria, its AI tool built on Wix’s underlying architecture. After generating a website, the designer can use Wix’s standard drag-and-drop interface to make changes and optimize the site as they see fit. They can then return to the AI for more refinements, since it will understand the context and the changes made in the meantime.

Furthermore, since Aria is built on Wix’s underlying architecture, making changes in one area shouldn’t break the code, add bugs, or change the functionality in a different part of the site.

“Every action is applied across the experience, backed by the same production‑grade quality and reliability that support millions of businesses on Wix,” the company said in a press release shared with TechRadar Pro earlier this week.

Wix Harmony will begin rolling out in English in the coming weeks, Wix further stated, saying it will “gradually become available” to all Wix users. Pricing details, or pricing tiers, are not known at this time.

Although AI is already widely integrated into the majority of top website builders, users often find new AI tools and the more familiar drag-and-drop tools working against each other, making it hard to create the website they want.

You've got two main options: hosting a website yourself with one of the best web hosting providers or using one of the best website builders around today.

The best website builders are platforms that help you build a website and include a bunch of business tools to help you manage your business. The best web hosting providers give you server space and the freedom to install the tools that you want to make your website and manage your business.

Website builders give you everything you need pre-configured and integrated but they're more expensive and less flexible. Web hosting is cheaper and gives you more choice - but what is the use of choice if you don't understand the options? In this article I'll unpack them to make it simple and easy to host your own site.

Web hosting providers

The first choice is which web hosting provider to use - and for this article, I've narrowed this down to three providers. Hostinger, Bluehost, and Namecheap.

Hostinger has one of the most complete web hosting packages that makes it comparable to a website builder and they have their own website builder too. It has very low starter prices but renewal prices are high compared to other hosting options.

Bluehost has, in my opinion, one of the best WordPress page builders on the market making created WordPress sites super easy. The hosting packages are less complete, starter prices are also low but renewal and add-ons do increase the price later on.

Namecheap, as the name would suggest, is cheap and has everything you need but the user experience is not as friendly as the above options.

After going over the pros and cons of these three providers I'll throw in a website builder comparison.

Hostinger

What you get

On the most basic Premium plan ($1.99/mo for 48 months, then $12.99/mo), Hostinger should give you everything you need for a weekend launch.

Other plans give you more features, support more website, and provide more performance, but the Premium plan should be fine, as it includes:

A free domain for one year - As with Hostinger, it is easy enough to use this free domain for a year - but you might want to check out other options at a later date.

10GB of storage - Less than Hostinger, but still plenty of storage for most websites.

Pro Email - Only free for a year, and then an additional $2.99/mo after.

Website building options - Bluehost just provides an AI builder for WordPress, and I think it's better than Hostinger's AI WordPress site building tool.

WonderBlocks makes it really easy to edit and modify WordPress sites - and you can read my 60 Minutes with Bluehost article to see how easy it is to build and manage a website with this option.

Namecheap

What you get

Once again, you can find everything you need to start and manage a website with Namecheap's basic plan: Stellar ($1.98/mo for 12 months, then $4.88/mo).

A free domain for one year - Namecheap has some of the lowest renewal prices for domains, so you won't need to search elsewhere after your year's free trial is up.

20GB SSD storage - Par for the course, and should be all you need.

30 Mailboxes- This is the real bonus, as our previous hosts require you to pay extra for email after one month or a year - but with Namecheap, email is included, and free forever.

Website building options - You have a few options with Namecheap and it can be a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to mention two: WordPress and the AI Website Builder.

The AI Website Builder is OK but it doesn't support ecommerce and doesn't have the same maturity and amount of options as WordPress. I'd stick with WordPress but you get less of a helping hand using the WordPress page builder.

Website Builder option: Wix

What you get

Wix's cheapest plan is $17/mo from the starting block, and you don't get much for it.

A free domain for one year - The first year is free and the 'starting' price is stated but the renewal cost is hidden.

2GB storage - This isn't much compared to some other options, but should be manageable for most users.

Email - What email? None is provided.

Website building options - The upside to Wix is that it has a very user friendly page builder, but you don't get free add-ons like you do with WordPress - and if you wanted to leave Wix, you'll need to re-build your page from scratch.

Web hosting summary

Our tests show that there isn't much between the hosts when it comes to performance so the choice is entirely down to budget and how much of a helping hand you want with WordPress.

If I was on a budget and had more time to play with WordPress then I'd pick Namecheap.

If I could stretch my budget and needed help page building with WordPress I'd use Bluehost.

If I could extend my budget and in return get AI website management tools like Kodee and more features like email marketing, I'd go with Hostinger.

What are website templates?

A website template is basically a ready-made layout for your site. It’s the bones and style, like choosing a room that’s already painted and furnished. All you do is fill in your own words and pictures. Templates include layouts for headers, footers, menus, and more. We can swap colors, change fonts, and upload your stuff without messing with the underlying code.

There are free templates, which are pretty basic, but easy to use. Paid templates usually come with more snazzy designs and extra features. These premium choices might offer better support, more powerful customization, or advanced widgets for e-commerce or bookings. For some of us, free is enough, but others may want the boost of a paid template.

Wix has an enormous gallery of templates in both categories. Now let’s see how Wix templates actually work and what you need to know before switching yours.

How do templates work in Wix?

Wix gives us hundreds of templates to work with, sorted by type: business, blog, portfolio, and loads more. Head to the Wix Editor and you’ll find them right inside the "Create New Site" flow. Many templates are free, but some high-end ones cost money, especially the premium designs with advanced features.

But here’s the problem with Wix: you can’t swap templates for a published site. The only way to change your template is to start a fresh site with a new template.

You then manually move your content, like text, images, and store items, by copying it over yourself. All styling and layout elements from the old template stay behind. Things like your header, menus, and footers will use the design from the new template, but you’ll need to update the rest for a consistent look.

You should know that not all features transfer easily. Premium apps, widgets (like booking or contact forms), and certain integrations might need to be reinstalled or rebuilt on your new site. All of this means more work if you want fancy features or a custom setup.

To skip extra hassle, plan ahead! Review your content, widgets, and apps before switching. Make a checklist of what to copy over, and keep backups of important stuff. This way, we’re not left scrambling and our new site launches smoothly.

How to change your Wix template: A step-by-step guide

You can't change your Wix template for an existing site. If you want a fresh look, you've got to start from scratch. We know that's a pain, but if you're determined to switch, we'll walk you through adding a new template and customizing it, step by step. Let's get your new site up and running, hassle-free.

Ready to tackle it? Here's our plain guide to picking, applying, and tweaking a new Wix template. Take it one step at a time, and you'll keep things smooth.

Step 1: Create a backup of your current site

Before touching anything, secure your work.

In Wix, go to your site dashboard, click "Site Actions," and select "Duplicate Site." This gives you a snapshot of everything — pages, text, images, settings — so nothing gets lost. It's your safety net if something goes wrong later.

While you’re there, audit all your content. Copy important page text to a safe document, download every image, and jot down links to crucial forms or features like contact pages, bookings, or blog posts. List the settings you’ll want to replicate (domain, SEO, e-commerce, email, apps). This saves us from missing anything during the move and helps ensure your core content survives the transition.

Step 2: Start a new website

Log into your Wix dashboard and hit "Create New Site." You’ll pick the website type first—business, blog, shop, and more. This choice helps Wix tailor its template suggestions. Now, browse the template gallery. It’s massive, but you can use filters: free, paid, features, style, and even niche business categories.

Preview each option before deciding. Don’t rush, we all know a site’s first impression matters. Check for built-in widgets like galleries, blog layouts, store features, or appointment booking. Make sure the design is mobile-friendly; Wix lets you preview on different screen sizes. When you’re happy, select "Edit" to start customizing.

Step 3: Customize your template in the editor

The Wix Editor opens with your chosen template fully set up. Explore every page — homepage, contact, about, services. Swap in your brand colors, fonts, and logos. Replace generic text with your own words and upload images from your old site or your computer, using the Media Manager for easy access.

Play with sections by dragging and dropping elements. You can add apps from the Wix App Market: want live chat, store, social feeds, or newsletters? There’s something for almost every use. For menu bars, footers, and headers, customize navigation and page layout so everything feels seamless and matches your style.

Step 4: Migrate content manually

Wix doesn’t offer an automatic content transfer. You’ll go through each page of your old site and copy the text, images, and links into your new site’s framework.

For blog posts, use Wix Blog’s import/export tool to bring them over without losing formatting. For ecommerce, manually re-add product details, categories, cart, and thank you pages. Reinstall apps, set up booking forms, and configure contact pages. Some advanced elements, like custom code or third-party widgets, may need to be rebuilt.

Inspect each page after transferring to catch broken links or formatting issues. Try to keep site structure consistent, navigation should feel familiar for returning visitors. Test all interactive elements (forms, payments, bookings), since things may need tweaking to fit the new template’s layout and style.

Step 5: Reapply domain, SEO, and settings

Once your new site feels complete, start reconnecting the backend components. Go to site settings and connect your custom domain if you have one.

Reapply all SEO settings: meta tags, page descriptions, image alt text, and keywords. Double-check tracking codes for Google Analytics, Facebook, or other stats plugins.

Set up email forwarding, newsletter integrations, and ecommerce payment info. If your old site had premium apps, reinstall and activate them on the new site. Review all notifications and security settings, you don’t want to miss customer messages or let broken links affect your rankings.

Step 6: Preview, test, and publish

Run your site through Wix’s Preview mode. Go page by page, checking for design glitches, broken links, or weird formatting — especially on mobile. Hit every button, try every form, and test payment processes if your site sells online.

Ask a few friends or colleagues to check your site too, fresh eyes catch things you might miss. When everything’s perfect, hit “Publish” and make your new template live! Announce the update on social, email lists, or wherever your audience hangs out.

You did it! New look, fresh experience, and a site that’s ready for whatever comes next.

Troubleshooting your Wix template: Common problems and solutions

Switching templates or designing in Wix can come with a few bumps. If stuff isn’t working right, don’t panic. We’ll cover some common problems and how to solve them.

Problem: Changes aren’t saving

You click “Save,” but your updates vanish. It’s super frustrating, especially after spending time tweaking your site.

Solution: First, clear your browser cache and cookies. Switch to the latest Chrome, Firefox, or Safari for best results. If it still fails, try saving on a different computer or device. Wix works best on supported browsers and strong connections.

Problem: Pages look weird or broken on mobile

Sometimes text overlaps, images vanish, or things just don’t fit. Mobile layouts can be a headache.

Solution: Use the mobile preview in Wix Editor. Adjust mobile settings separately. (Wix has tools for hiding or rearranging sections on phones.) Keep columns narrow, and avoid huge images. Preview often, and tweak until things look sharp.

Problem: Error code 10104 during payments

You try to upgrade or buy a template, and get Error 10104. Your payment won’t go through.

Solution: Check all payment details — card numbers, expiry dates, and billing addresses. Make sure your card or PayPal is active, and funds are available. If it still fails, clear browser cache and cookies, or try another payment method. Ask your bank if they’re blocking transactions.

Problem: Editor freezes or won’t load

The Wix Editor might stall or crash, leaving you stuck and annoyed.

Solution: Reload the page using Incognito Mode. Clear browser cache, disable plug-ins, and restart your browser. If the problem persists, switch devices or browsers. Wix support can help if you’re truly stuck.

Problem: Content doesn’t transfer properly

You copy text or images from your old site, but links break or formatting gets weird.

Solution: Migrate content manually, don’t rely on bulk copying. Check all pages for missing images or text, fix broken links, and re-upload any files. Backups help, and testing saves headaches.

133 years. That is how long it would take me to save for the watch I’ve always dreamed of owning.*

That is admittedly a little opulent, so let’s be more realistic.

How about three bottles of my favourite whisky? One and a half bottles of my favourite aftershave? My dream car (albeit the Lego version)? Or a new pair of AirPods?**

I could afford any one of these within just 12 months if I put aside the money I save by switching my website from Wix to Hostinger.

Last month, I did a bit of an audit of my websites and noticed I was probably paying too much to host one of my very basic websites with Wix. In fact, when I worked it out, if I switched from Wix to Hostinger, I could save myself a sizable $168 a year, in the first four years, then about $60 a year after that.

That could fund at least part of my love for whisky and inability to keep hold of AirPods. But this article isn't about my fantasy shopping list; it’s about what happened when I made that switch from Wix to Hostinger.

Why am I switching to Hostinger?

The short answer: More money in my pocket.

As I mentioned before, with the generous intro rate, I will be saving $168 a year by switching to Hostinger.

The website I am migrating is a simple one. It’s a blog, a short portfolio, a little information about me, and some links. Although I will have to rebuild this site from scratch, I can’t imagine it will take more than an hour or two to do so (you can find out how long it actually took below). For me, a few hours of work now to save $672 over the next four years is an easy decision.

However, this isn’t true for every website. I have other sites on Wix, such as one that I use to promote my martial arts coaching business. This has a booking system, an online store that is plugged into dropshipping, and a whole host of pages I’ve created over time.

Although I could do most of this with Hostinger, the time and effort it would take to migrate the site over just doesn’t seem worth it. Plus, I feel like I’m truly getting great value for money with this Wix site anyway, so it’s staying put.

Migrating from Wix to Hostinger: How to

Step 1: Fail

It came as little surprise, but Wix and Hostinger weren't going to play nice, and I couldn’t migrate directly from one to the other. This is, admittedly, one of the biggest downsides to using a website builder; they don’t like to share code with each other.

Is it frustrating? Yes. Did I expect it? Yes.

Step 2: Start from scratch

Looks like I’m going to have to build my site from scratch. That’s ok. Let’s get started.

I’m presented with two options. First, use Hostinger’s AI website builder; second, pick from a template. Every part of me wants to pick a template, but according to Hostinger, 85% of users opt for AI creations. So, I’m going to give both a go.

AI first. I’m looking to, close enough, replicate my current website. So, I give it the brand name and describe what I already have. Let’s see what happens next.

Not bad. It’s created the pages I need (for the most part). The design is clean and does the job. But I have to be honest, I’m not inspired by it, it’s a little…well, bland.

I’ve tested a lot of AI website builders and a lacklustre design is pretty common. Honestly, that doesn’t matter that much, I am going to have to edit it anyway, and I’ll probably have it looking a lot better in no time.

But for me a well designed template offers a lot more inspiration. I mean, just compare the below template to the AI generated template above. It’s in a different league.

This template is also incredibly close to the one I used on Wix, which will make transferring a lot easier. Sorry AI, you’re getting left behind on this one.

Step 3: Populate my website

Exactly 13 minutes of editing later, and I’ve got the homepage looking roughly how I want it. It’s just a shame the template isn’t looking quite as inspiring now that it features my face on there. Perhaps we will try and fix that later.

I actually think this is looking better than the original (scroll the image to compare the two). But I need to add a blog, a portfolio, and a contact page to complete it. Blog first.

There aren’t a ton of blog pages to pick from, but I like the layout so we are all good. Let’s populate it with the content from my old website.

Step 4: Fail (again)

I hit the back button on my browser because I wanted to get back to the main page. It took me back to the template, and I lost all my work. Poof, 13 minutes of my life went up in smoke.

Honestly, I’m glad I made that mistake at this point and not a few hours into my journey.

I probably should have known something like that might happen, but I won’t have been the first one to make this mistake. It told me the site was saving, but I can’t find it anywhere. Could you at least hit me with a warning next time, Hostinger?

Step 5: Back to populating my website

Ok, I’m back to populating my blog. To be honest this all needs updating, as I haven’t posted anything since 2022 (yes I’m disappointed in myself). But for now I will just transfer my posts from my old site so there is something there.

The images I had on my blog were a bit, well, boring. Let’s see if Hostinger’s AI image generator can help me create something more interesting.

I had to try a few prompts before I got anything suitable. It’s better than what I had before, but there is some AI weirdness going on (bendy coffee cup, warped keyboard). It will do for now, let’s troop on and I’ll update them at a later date.

Some copy, pasting, and formatting later my blog is populated. It still needs some work, but I can play with all of that another day. Next up, a contact page.

Ok, that took less than 5 minutes. A simple contact form and a few contact details are all good to go.

Next, I’m going to upload my portfolio. I actually need to take some time to undertake a total overhaul on this, but I am going to upload it as-is and then hide the page so I have a starting point for when I have time to do this.

I found a page that looks suitable under ‘projects’. I’ve populated it and hidden it. Let’s get this site live.

I click ‘Publish site’.

Step 6: Connect my domain

Great stuff. I’m online, but I’m on a temporary domain. So, I need to connect the domain from my other site to this one.

I used Hostinger’s AI assistant to help me out with this, and unlike some others I’ve tried, it didn’t just point me at some help articles - it gave an easy step-by-step guide. So, I did as it said, and about 30 minutes later, my website was live.

Step 7: Reflect and fantasy shop

All-in-all it took about 1.5 hours to build the site, copy over my content, and connect my domain. Although it took a little time to work out a few features, it was pretty smooth sailing. Of course, this is a super simple site, and I didn’t need to write any of my content from scratch, but I am still very impressed with how quickly it all went.

Now all I need to do is cancel my Wix subscription and order my first bottle of whisky…or was it aftershave?

Wix users now get to use some of the most popular fonts in the world, such as Helvetica, or Avenir, thanks to a new partnership with Monotype Imaging. Earlier this week, one of the best website builders announced a new strategic partnership with Monotype Imaging, one of the biggest font licensors in the world.

As a result, Wix users can now enjoy a wider spectrum of high-quality typefaces to improve their content and better demonstrate their creativity.

Among the fonts Monotype owns and distributes are Helvetica, Arial, Times New Roman, Future, Avenir, and Century Gothic. The company also offers new classics, such as Recoleta, Kibitz Pro, and Aether. However, not all of Monotype’s typefaces will be available.

After consulting with type design experts at Monotype, Wix chose which fonts to offer, ranging from “professional business needs” to “playful, personal projects”, and “agencies building bespoke web experiences with a variety of fonts.”

New features

For Hagit Kaufman, VP of Brand and Design at Wix, typography is “an important aspect of web design”, and by expanding the font offering, Wix “empowers creators to produce visually compelling websites and content that truly reflects the brand’s personality".

The new fonts are now live and accessible to all Wix and Wix Studio users, it was said in the press release.

In recent months, Wix has been hard at work, adding new tools and features for its website building community. In late April this year, it introduced a new AI-powered adaptive content application that generates and modifies website content based on admin input and visitor characteristics. A few weeks earlier, in mid-March, it introduced a new no-code interface, Wix Functions, allowing customers to create custom business flows and elements such as dynamic pricing rules, checkout conditions, and tailored loyalty rewards without needing any coding expertise.

Alibaba and Wix have announced a new partnership, which will see customers of both platforms benefit from the other's features and services.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro, the two companies said the collaboration will fuse Alibaba’s wholesale ecosystem with Wix’s website builder and ecommerce infrastructure.

Under the deal, Wix merchants will get access to Alibaba’s B2B marketplace by simply downloading the Alibaba Seller App through the Wix Marketplace. Among other things, this will allow them to become Global Gold Suppliers, connecting directly with millions of verified global buyers.

At the same time, Alibaba’s sellers get to build branded B2B and D2C storefronts using Wix’s AI-powered solutions. Through the partnership, they will be able to use Wix’s ecommerce automation solutions, as well as built-in marketing, simplifying brand identity development and reaching a global audience - easily.

Win-win

The partnership centers around three key initiatives - seller App Integration for easy onboarding and cross-platform product syncing, curated sourcing from Alibaba.com's wholesale marketplace, tailored for Wix merchants, and access to Wix's AI suite for Alibaba.com sellers to quickly build and scale their digital storefronts.

Executives from both companies framed the move as a win for small businesses navigating the complexities of global trade.

“Our partnership with Wix simplifies the complexities of international trade,” said Kuo Zhang, President of Alibaba.com, “offering small businesses streamlined solutions for sourcing, selling, and expanding their global reach.”

For Nir Zohar, President of Wix, the move “opens powerful new opportunities for our users to tap into international wholesale markets, while also giving Alibaba.com merchants the ability to create stronger, more direct connections with their customers.”

The rollout will be phased, the two companies said in the press release, with a number of features and enhancements already planned for the future. Among them are AI-powered product discovery, automated onboarding processes, and intelligent product-matching tools.

Love it or hate it, AI is shaking up practically every industry out there.

I recently logged into my Wix account to make a few adjustments to one of my websites. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a little yellow tag that read:

As someone who spends most of his days, and some of his nights, thinking about, testing, and extensively writing about the best website builder platforms, I was a little confused.

Had I missed a press release? What was this new feature?

So, I reached out to Wix.

Turns out this new feature was launched under the radar - but I wasn't going to let it slip through the net.

The best web hosting providers such as Hostinger, Bluehost, and SiteGround all tell you how many pageviews their plans can handle, but does that translate into reality? Yes, but not for everyone.

Here's how to find out how many pageviews your plan will handle.

Are hosts lying?

No. Hosts want to quote a number but they don’t know how many resources your website needs. Every site is different. So, it’s impossible for them to tell you how much power your website needs before they actually host your site.

Some hosts will base supported monthly visitors on the average website. This means that statistically, over half of customers will not be able to reach these numbers without an impact on the performance of their website, even in the best case scenarios.

In some cases, there may be some dressing up of web hosting plans making them look more attractive but I wouldn’t want to call out any host for being dishonest.

How to see through the promises?

The simple way is to ask support before you sign up. Tell them about your site and they’ll be able to recommend a plan for you. If you don’t have a site yet, it doesn’t really matter. Building a site doesn’t take that much time but growing monthly visits does.

If you out-grow your web hosting plan faster than you expect, then just count yourself as one of the lucky ones and enjoy buying a new plan. If you’ve already got an established site and a regular amount of visitors then it will be a lot easier for you to find a hosting plan suitable for you.

Fair use & limits

Another way to check what you’re really getting from your host is to read the fair use limits. DreamHost offers unlimited monthly visits but if you read the small print you'll see that it's not unlimited.

I'm not calling DreamHost out here. What they offer is very fair. They're offering a safety net so you never have to worry about hitting limits when your site grows. If your site does get busy, they tell you that you'll be asked to sign up to a different plan.

Limits

Sometimes, it's not the amount of site visitors that's the bottleneck. I asked Bluehost support about a fictitious website I was looking to rehost and while there was enough power on the server to support 300K monthly visits out of the supported 400K, the storage limits would make the website run poorly.

And that's another thing. Just because a server supports a large amount of site visits. It doesn't necessarily mean the quality of each site visit is going to make your website users want to come back or make a purchase.

Can you test hosting plans to find out?

Unfortunately, you cannot.

I can replicate any website authentically but I cannot replicate site visitors. When you try and replicate genuine site visitors what you’re doing is the same thing as what you would do if you wanted to do a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS).

Fortunately, web hosts have a lot of tech to be able to stop these types of attacks now. However, that means that as soon as your non-genuine visitors start trying to access your site the hosting provider will identify it as an attack and defend your site. It’s very hard to replicate non-genuine site visitors so they just get blocked.

Summary

Just like reading any sales and marketing pitch, take everything with a pinch of salt. Just because a site offers 400K visits a month for less than $20 doesn't mean you're getting it. There probably is a scenario in which a website could get 400K visits, not get throttled in any other area, and still retain a good user experience for their site but it's extremely rare.

You can only pick the right plan for you with a holistic approach. Look at what else is offered like a CDN, or email, and how frequently backups are done. If you have an established site, share your performance metrics and ask support to guide you to the right plan. If you don't, be happy when you reach the limits of your hosting plan because the majority of people won't.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Wix. Not only have I built and hosted all my personal websites on it for over 5 years, I also awarded it the top spot in my list of the best website builders - it genuinely is the best option for most people, in most cases.

So why the sudden change of heart?

In reality, Wix isn’t always the best option. Over the last few years, I have spent hundreds of hours testing and reviewing website builders and realized that Wix just doesn’t work for me anymore.

That might be the case for you too. Let me explain.

Why not Wix?

Wix does a lot of things well. But in some cases, it just isn’t right.

I built my personal website on Wix around 5 years ago. It’s a simple site. A picture of me, a blog, some examples of my work, and a few links to the things I’m involved in at the moment.

During that time I have had exactly zero problems with that site. But the numbers aren’t adding up.

I’m currently paying $17/mo for this website on Wix’s cheapest plan.

This isn’t going to bankrupt me, sure. But it’s a blog and a few links, I’m sure there is a better and cheaper option.

Let’s do the math

At the moment, I’m paying $204 a year for this basic site. To save some cash I have a few options:

Option 1: Go for a free website builder

Potential saving: $204/year

Free plans can be good but even the best free website builders come with limitations like a non-custom domain and onsite ads. This site represents my personal brand, I want to keep my domain and onsite ads aren’t going to look professional.

This option doesn't work for me.

Option 2: Get cheap hosting and build my site

Potential saving: $172.92/year for 3 years, then $132.12/year after

I can already hear my colleague, Web Hosting Editor James Capell, encouraging me to go this route. In fact, I asked him and he recommended using DreamHost and WordPress.

This web hosting option would cost me $31.08/year for the first three years on an introductory rate and then $71.88/year from year 3 and beyond.

It is incredibly tempting, especially with that sort of cost saving. But I haven’t always enjoyed using WordPress and I love the simplicity of an ‘all-in’ website builder.

Sorry James, not this time.

Option 3: A cheaper website builder

Potential cost saving: $168.12/year for 4-years, then $60.12/year after

Third time lucky - I hope.

My final option is simply to use a cheaper website builder. On my best website builder guide, I recommend Hostinger as the best value, so that feels like a good option to explore.

If I sign up for 4 years I can build my site on Hostinger for just $35.88/year. This then goes up to $143.88 after, which is a sizable jump, but still cheaper than Wix.

I like the Hostinger website builder, it’s intuitive and has all the features I need for this website. This feels like the best option for me.

Will it work?

Moving your website isn’t the easiest task, especially when you have built it using a website builder. In most cases you cannot simply transfer your site to a different provider, you have to start from scratch.

Some of my other Wix sites have around 100 pages, ecommerce, and a built in booking platform. I would take a lot longer to consider the pros and cons of moving these sites. Besides, as I am using some of Wix's great business tools, I am confident that I am getting great value for money in these cases.

But for my personal brand site switching shouldn’t be too tricky. A few hours, some help from Hostinger’s built in AI tools, and I should have a great site live again.

Hostinger has fewer tools and features than Wix, but I’m not using them on this website anyway, so that isn’t an issue. Although the cost savings go down after that initial 4-year period, that’s a long time away, and I could always look at moving it again.

I have been on an anti-AI website builder crusade recently. I’ve just seen too many terrible AI-built websites to stand by in silence.

But don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that I don’t think there is value in using AI website builders. In fact, I believe that the correct application of AI in website building could drastically raise the bar.

I’ve already shouted about how “we don’t need more websites, we need better websites”. Now it’s time to help you identify and overcome 5 of the biggest mistakes you can make when building a website with AI.

Remember to read number five - failing to do so could be embarrassing (or worse).

Mistake 1: Assuming AI knows best

Like a hammer, AI is a tool. Give it to a master craftsman and the outcome can be beautiful. But give it to an unsupervised toddler and expect a hefty repair bill.

Too often I see people who have clearly used an AI website builder to create a template for their site, but once they’ve hit ‘generate’ that is the end of their design process.

Here is the thing. AI doesn’t know your customers like you do. It certainly doesn’t know your business like you do. In reality, it is making a best guess at what will look good and work for you.

Hitting ‘generate’ is really only the start of your design process. Once AI presents you with a design, it is then up to you to edit and tweak that design to make it really stand out from the ever-growing crowd.

Mistake 2: Not editing AI copy

AI-written copy can be a great starting point and a useful source of inspiration, but it is rarely fit for purpose on your website without at least some level of editing.

When using AI to write copy for your website, take your time to read it back. Does it make sense? Does it flow well? Does it sound human?

If the answer is no to any of these, consider how you could edit it to make it worthy of representing your brand.

Mistake 3: Leaving AI images untouched

Similar to AI-written copy, AI generated images can offer some context and inspiration when building a website. However, leaving them entirely unchecked and untouched can leave your website feeling, well, artificial.

Scan through your website and take some time to identify images that don’t help you connect with potential visitors. You may need to replace them entirely. Or, alternatively, many of the best website builder platforms offer built-in editing tools that can help you tweak them to better suit your needs.

Mistake 4: Launching and leaving

In a recent interview with Linda Tong, CEO of Webflow, she shared how she believes that AI is leading to:

“A wave of quick builds that aren’t designed to last. Apps with no plan for how they’ll be maintained, improved, or scaled over time."

Using AI feels amazing because it makes launching a website ridiculously quick and easy. But like most things that are quick and easy, the results don’t last.

Launching your website with AI should be the start of your website journey. Now you can start to collect data on visitor habits and use that data to make informed website optimization decisions.

Mistake 5: Not fact checking

AI doesn’t always get things right. When it comes to website building, that can be an issue.

In minor cases, trusting AI to publish business information on your website may lead to customer dissatisfaction, say getting pricing or opening hours incorrect. In severe cases, it may lead to considerable legal action, say getting a very important part of your terms and conditions incorrect.

Taking some time to fact-check everything AI produces will save you from embarrassment or something more serious.

So, AI can be a helpful website building tool, but it should come with a sizable warning sticker:

Taking some time to check, edit, or replace AI-generated content will help you produce a website that is fit to represent your business online. Once you have launched your site it is also important to consider a strategy for ongoing, data-backed improvements to ensure its long-term success.

• Base44 is a popular low code/no code platform powered by AI
• It will remain a separate entity

Wix.com, one of the best website builders in the world, is jumping on the vibe coding bandwagon with the acquisition of Base44.

This morning, the company shared a press release with TechRadar Pro, in which it announced its purchase of the AI-powered platform that “enables anyone to create fully functional, custom software solutions and applications using natural language, without the need for traditional coding.”

Wix bought Base44 for $80 million, and agreed to possibly pay even more through 2029, depending on how well Base44 performs. It did not detail which metrics it will be tracking in that respect.

Base44 will not be merged into Wix but will instead remain a distinct product and business, the company confirmed. It doesn’t expect the acquisition to be felt in its 2025 bookings and revenue, too. “We expect to incur approximately $25 million in retention bonus payments paid to Base44 employees in 2025 as part of the above initial consideration paid on the transaction, which will be excluded from non-GAAP and free cash flow (FCF) results,” the press release reads.

According to Similarlabs, Base44 has more than 40,000 users, making it a rather popular solution among web app builders, particularly those looking to bypass conventional development hurdles. It comes with built-in services like database management, user authentication, email, analytics, storage, hosting, and even domain/DNS setup. It has a drag-and-drop interface, as of recently also supported by a conversational AI chatbot.

AI galore

In recent times, Wix has been aggressively adding Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) across its suite of products and solutions. In December 2024, it demonstrated AI Site-Chat, a feature designed to serve as a virtual agent for customers. In January 2025, it released Business Launcher, an AI-powered tool designed to help entrepreneurs create new business initiatives, from concept to execution, and a few months later, in May, it introduced the Wix Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, which enables users to generate code through AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf.

“This acquisition marks a pivotal milestone in Wix’s commitment to transforming creation online,” said Avishai Abrahami, CEO and Co-founder of Wix. “Maor and his team at Base44 bring cutting-edge technology, strong market penetration, and visionary leadership that seamlessly align with Wix’s dedication to enabling users at all levels of expertise to express their intent while intelligent agents manage execution. "

For Maor Shlomo, CEO of Base44, there isn’t a better fit than Wix.

“Wix is probably the only company that can help Base44 achieve the scale and distribution it needs while maintaining, if not accelerating, our product velocity," he said. “Our market is massive. It has the potential to replace entire software categories by enabling people to create software instead of buying it. Wix’s DNA – its customer obsession, innovation, and speed – perfectly aligns with ours, and its scale will catapult Base44 forward at exactly the right time.”

Comment from the expert

Given all the buzz around vibe coding, I was expecting Wix to jump into the space in some way, shape, or form in the coming months.

Although the world's biggest website builder isn't the first through the 'vibe' party door, Hostinger launched its own vibe coding platform called 'Horizons' back in February of this year, that doesn't mean it is behind. By acquiring Base44, Wix has skipped a stage of major development, helping it unlock an industry leading product without having to go through the often problematic early iterations.

Given Wix's commitment to becoming an all-in-one platform for businesses, I am surprised by the decision not to integrate Base44 into the Wix platform. I asked Wix if you would need a separate membership for Base44 - you will - although there is currently a free plan available so you can give it a go without having to pay for yet another subscription.

The press release didn't mention any plans to add the Base44 platform to Wix, I suspect that may be in the pipeline, but when that might be is unclear.

Top website builder Wix has announced the release of Wixel, an AI-powered visual design suite that’s effectively an alternative to the likes of Canva and Adobe Express.

According to the company, Wixel aims to “democratize visual design” - in other words, designers and non-designers will now have the tools to create professional-grade content and assets.

Interestingly, Wixel is a standalone product, so even those who don’t use the website builder will be able to sign up to the design tool. And, much like Canva and Express, it’s free to use with an optional upgrade for premium features.

What is Wixel and what can users expect?

When it comes to visual design suites, it’s a pretty crowded market right now, an area notably dominated by Canva.

It may not have been the first to market, but it’s the one that captured the imagination of marketing teams and businesses, letting even non-designers spin up professional-grade images and videos. So popular is it that even Adobe upped the ante and brought much-needed improvements to its Express platform.

Given the popularity of these suites, I’m not completely surprised to see Wix get in on the action. But what can users expect to get from Wixel?

Wix has offered an insight on this. Armed with just a single product photo uploaded to the platform, users can now remove or add backgrounds, crop, convert, and edit images, include text, and customize the layout within a template.

Alongside this, Wixel is capable of AI-generating images across different styles that can better suit the user’s brand guidelines. And voila, a user has a post fit for social media posting or adding to their online store. According to Wix, the entire process can be complete in minutes.

Discussing the launch, Avishai Abrahami, Wix CEO and co-founder, said: “AI is the foundation of Wixel. Design is in our DNA, and simplifying complex experiences is what we do best. We’re now determined to revolutionize design by democratizing access to powerful and creative tools for everyone, regardless of their design expertise.”

I toyed with Wixel and, yes, if you’re familiar with either Canva or Express, you’ll have a pretty good idea what to expect. An intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate, customizable templates allowing users to swiftly edit designs and create assets, and, of course, AI tools for enhancing and generating on-brand content.

The company also confirmed that future tools are in the works, including story creation and video. Given trends, this is an absolute essential that can’t come quick enough.

It is called the Wix Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, and enables users to generate code through AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf.

With MCP Server, Wix users can simply talk to an AI assistant to get things done, instead of having to write code themselves. For example, users could ask the AI to add a product to the Wix store, and the AI will send the request to the Wix MCP Server. The tool will then connect to the right tools (for example inventory, checkout, CRM, or something different), and come back with either a confirmation message, a code snippet, or similar.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro earlier this week, Wix added that no manual coding, or additional setting up, is needed, and that the tool works in IDEs for developers and in chat interfaces for non-tech users.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro recently, the company said that the partnership resulted in an “integrated solution” for businesses of varying sizes, designed to streamline the website and marketing technology stack, simplify operations, and enhance customer engagement.

The integrated solution allows users to oversee customer journeys from front-end website interactions to back-office operations, the company explained. Since the data is synchronized between Wix websites and ActiveCampaign accounts, customer interactions will be more streamlined, and so will marketing campaigns and automations, or analytics.

Besides streamlined data integration, the two companies promise scalable marketing automation that leverages customer insight such as form submissions, product purchases, and other behaviors to launch targeted, data-driven marketing initiatives. Furthermore, customers can expect comprehensive centralized reporting providing a holistic view of performance across the network, as well as enhanced multi-location management.

Nurturing leads and growing the business

David Schwartz, VP of Product at Wix, believes the partnership will help businesses with lead nurturing, marketing personalization and ultimately - growth: “With this partnership, businesses can qualify and nurture leads seamlessly, personalize sales and marketing efforts using engagement metrics, and enhance operational efficiency by automating repetitive tasks,” he said in the press release. “This solution will ultimately empower businesses of all sizes to manage their brand holistically—driving growth, profitability, and customer loyalty.”

ActiveCampaign’s Chief Strategy Officer, Shay Howe, added that nowadays, businesses are in need of streamlined solutions that allow for scaling without added complexities. “By combining Wix’s powerful website platform with ActiveCampaign’s marketing automation, we’re giving businesses of all sizes - especially franchises and multi-location brands - the tools they need to personalize customer experiences, automate engagement, and drive measurable growth,” Howe concluded.

The tool is an AI-powered adaptive content application that generates and modifies website content based on admin input and visitor characteristics.

With the new tool, website admins are able to determine which elements will trigger content adaptation. These elements include visitor device, country, language, or whether the visitor is a returning user. Furthermore, they can set directives, such as that the AI should deliver engaging or sales-oriented content. The tool also allows users to simulate different versions of the text, showing what the visitors could see, without the content going live first.

That means that the content a visitor sees on a website can be uniquely tailored just for that person. For example, a visitor might read a welcome message in their native language. They could see references to local holidays, pricing in local currency, or specific shipping policies. On mobile, they could see shorter, more concise content, and returning visitors might get a “thank you for coming back” message, or a highlight of something that changed since their last visit.

Personalizing the live experience

In my opinion, hyper-personalization is one of the most exciting ways that AI can help website owners build better sites and improve results. I've been waiting patiently for website builders like Wix to find a way to apply AI to help tailor website content specifically to individual visitors, so I was very pleased when I heard about this latest update.

Historically, businesses have been able to apply customer data to make overarching business decisions, allowing them to adapt business offerings to segments of an audience. For example, if a business knows that 80% of its audience likes to be talked to in a casual tone, then it would make sense for them to create all marketing content in this tone.

New AI tools, such as this one from Wix, take this to the next level, allowing businesses to use customer data to drive content personalization on an individual level.

However, despite my excitement, I do have some concerns.

AI generated content is notoriously subpar and almost always requires a level of editing in order to make it fit for purpose. This presents an issue. If we allow AI to deliver a totally tailored website experience, it becomes a near impossible task to maintain a level of quality control.

So, we are left with two options. Either businesses develop a bank of curated content assets, which will improve the quality of customer interactions, but limit the level of potential personalization - or they allow AI to tailor all content, but risk quality levels being poor.

Besides creating their own flows from scratch, users can also pick from a library of templates to help them get up and running.

Wix Functions

In an announcement, the company described how businesses may want to impose location-based fees for some customers and trigger discounts for returning buyers, which they can now do through Wix Functions with ease. “

The function then outputs the desired action, which the Wix app executes in real-time,” the announcement explains.

“Wix Functions gives businesses even more control over their operations, enabling them to customize more workflows, further automate processes and implement advanced business rules," said Tomas Petras Rupšys, Head of Wix Functions.

“The function’s output directly influences how the Wix app behaves in real-time, ensuring that businesses can seamlessly adapt their operations to meet unique needs, further empowering business owners to operate more efficiently and scale with ease,” Rupšys added.

To get the most out of Wix Functions, Wix suggests customers use it in conjunction with Wix Automations, a feature that was launched earlier this month and described as a tool to “support advanced business workflows” with a fully customizable automation engine.

Wix and Wix Studio for Wix Stores, Wix Bookings, Wix Restaurants, Wix Donations, Wix Forms and Wix Loyalty Program will all work with Functions, which is available for free, just like Wix Automations.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro earlier this week, the company said that the tool features a “dynamic visual canvas” that allows users to design, modify, and manage complex automation logic with ease.

Since all of task management is handled from a single automation table, the process is centralized and allows users to track trigger counts, monitor key metrics, view workflow summaries, and make real-time adjustments.

Furthermore, the automation builder incorporates conditions and formulas, allowing users to create workflows that “adapt dynamically to business needs”.

Wix says that the feature should help businesses automate repetitive tasks and customize processes based on real-time information, thus improving operational efficiency.

Available now

The automation builder is integrated with Wix Services, meaning businesses can leverage contextual data to build intelligent solutions.

For example, companies can generate personalized discount codes based on a customer's purchase history, spending habits, or specific items that they bought in the past.

Businesses can also automate notifications, such as sending appointment reminders, invoice due alerts, or follow-up emails for abandoned carts.

The platform includes built-in email automation capabilities that provide detailed engagement statistics, Wix further explained, stating that users get to track email open rates, click-through rates, and other performance indicators.

Automated SMS messaging is also available, giving businesses an additional channel to reach customers with timely updates, offers, or reminders. Users receive a limited number of free actions, though, such as sending emails and SMS. Extra options can be unlocked through premium upgrades, Wix said, although it did not elaborate on what these were.

In a press release shared with TechRadar Pro earlier this week, Wix said it is expanding its features to include print on demand by partnering with Printful.

Wix claims that all businesses will benefit from this latest announcement. New businesses, looking to start from scratch and build a brand, can benefit from a streamlined approach. Small businesses can create merchandise in a way that is “typically inaccessible to small businesses on the market today”. Established businesses can benefit from the integration by generating a new revenue stream.

Regardless of business size, all users will be provided access and control over “critical touchpoints of the print-on-demand and dropshipping solution”, as well as the ability to customize merchandise with brand logos and other art. They will also be able to adjust, or change the design of a product, and with a solution that fulfills orders individually, business owners can avoid upfront inventory costs.

Wix expands platform features

Finally, since Printful prioritizes locally-produced products (through its network of fulfillment centers), distribution is faster, and shipping costs are lower, while the on-demand operation model helps eliminate overproduction and remove the need for storage.

This offering is available in English, with plans to expand the availability to other languages “in the near future”, Wix concluded.
