Sony's Days of Play sale is back! Lasting for around two weeks, this official mid-year event marks the perfect time to pick up some extra accessories or games. It was often a good time to pick up a discounted console, too, but with Sony having just raised the prices (again) on PS5 machines, there aren't too many good discounts on them this year.

But the fact remains that the Days of Play sale still remains the best sale to pick up accessories, and in particular DualSense controllers. Mainly because Sony slashes the prices on basically all of them — and that's the case right now, as I have rounded up 20 DualSense variants that have crashed in price at PlayStation Direct, along with some quick links to other top retailers offering discounts.

So if you've been in need of a spare controller to add to a setup to ensure you're never out of juice, or have been eyeing up a limited edition or particular colorway that came out over the past year, then now is the time to strike!

High-end gaming accessory maker Scuf has revealed a new PlayStation 5 controller, the Omega.

It's an officially licensed DualSense Edge alternative that features an additional 11 customizable inputs geared towards competitive play. This includes four rear paddles, two side buttons, and five G-keys near the bottom of the pad. Everything can be tweaked and remapped via the compatible Scuf Mobile App, which also offers the option to save personalized profiles to the controller.

All of this comes alongside the usual DualSense inputs, ensuring native PS5 compatibility.

On top of this deluge of buttons, the Scuf Omega boasts other unique features such as a removable magnetic faceplate and interchangeable action buttons. It's also compatible with a non-slip grip and has its own RGB lighting strip.

The Omega is a wireless controller, though players who choose to use it in a wired capacity can take advantage of a cable lock to prevent accidental disconnects (a handy feature for tournament settings). Although PS5 is clearly the focus, those on PC can benefit from a lightning-fast 1,000Hz polling rate, whether playing wired or wirelessly, too.

Premium components like the mechanical D-pad and durable TMR thumbsticks should make this a pretty significant step up compared to the standard DualSense. It's even got better battery life, with an estimated 17 hours of active use per charge compared to the usual (and rather optimistic) 12.

With features like these, it should come as no surprise that the Scuf Omega is far from cheap. You can buy it now via the Scuf website, starting at $219.99 / £209.99.

Whether it will rank among the best PS5 controllers is yet to be seen, so keep an eye out for our review in the coming weeks.

PlayStation is no stranger to limited-edition or fresh colorway accessories, and maybe no product gets that treatment more than the DualSense Wireless Controller. For many, the unique designs and fresh looks let you match the controller to whatever game you’re playing — or even your personality.

While I am still holding out hope for a 30th Anniversary DualSense restock, PlayStation’s recent drop, which debuted back in March 2025, is bursting with color and might even have gotten its inspiration from the Icon Blue edition that dropped in late 2025.

The Hyperpop Collection is a clan of three PS5 pads: Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue. So while the names might make you think of Rock Band or Guitar Hero, PlayStation’s team shared that these designs are all about bursts of color and are inspired by the impressive RGB-lit setups many players use.

Essentially, these pops of color extend from your setup — or even the screen of some of your favorite PS5 games — into your hands via the DualSense Controller. Neither the Techno Red, Remix Green, nor Rhythm Blue gets a full paint job, though. Rather, each is presented more like a gradient, with the bottom half of the controller getting the vibrant treatment while the top remains black.

Even though the paint job doesn’t cover the entirety of the controller, these really do stand out thanks to the glossy finish across all three. The result is a smooth-feeling controller, which may or may not be the best fit for you, as it lacks some of the texture found on other DualSense Controllers.

These do have a certain amount of sparkle and spectacle to them. I especially like the Rhythm Blue. As the vibrant blue starts to fade to black, I really liked the tapering effect PlayStation accomplished here as well.

Remix Green, as you can see from the photos above, has some more yellow undertones, making it effectively a lime-green. Remix Red is likely the runner-up in my books, offering a really nice shade of red that any fan of Spider-Man or Marvel would likely jive quite well with.

If you’re after an eye-catching DualSense Controller, though, and your favorite color is green, red, or blue, you really can’t go wrong with this set. And if you’re really after a full-circle look, PlayStation offers matching PS5 covers in the same shades.

IO Interactive has addressed criticism of the design of the 007 First Light limited-edition DualSense wireless controller, confirming it's not what some fans think.

Last month, Sony unveiled the gorgeous new DualSense, which will launch alongside the game on May 27 for $84.99 / £74.99 / €84.99. The gold and black design features a '007' logo on the touchpad and is surrounded by straight lines fanning out across the controller.

It was thought that the design was inspired by the iconic opening of James Bond movies, which typically show 007 walking across the screen from the perspective of inside a gun barrel, before whipping out his pistol.

However, after the announcement, some fans criticised the design, reasoning that if it were the case, the lines should actually be curved and spiralled, not straight.

"I was immediately bothered that the design, which is clearly trying to emulate the iconic opening, didn’t have 'rifling' (the swirly bit in the barrel that stabilizes the bullet)," one user said on Reddit.

Another responded, saying, "The idea of a 007 themed controller, with a design inspired by the inside of a barrel, NOT referencing the 007 intro stretches my credulity a bit too far lol."

Now, in an interview with Eurogamer, 007 First Light art director Rasmus Poulsen has set the record straight and confirmed the design is not intended to simply mimic a gun barrel.

"The thing about the straight lines is everybody can do just a gun barrel, right? But in that sense, I think it's actually very telling that it's not a straight-up gun barrel, because that is an icon of the franchise," Poulsen said.

"It isn't actually anywhere," he added, suggesting you don't see rifling in the real world or in Bond movies beyond the iconic title cards. "I mean, it's inside every weapon, of course - but now I'm getting ahead of myself."

The art director goes on to explain the real intention behind the design, revealing that it's a reference to the game's UI and its "light and shadow" themes. First Light, get it?

"What we were trying to do with that was reference more how the UI of the game feels," Poulsen explained. "So rather than simply making a franchise stamp, it relates to our product, in the sense that it has that UI sense - and then it has more of a, dare I say, 'Sun' flavour, referring back to the title. And you've seen the title sequence. So there's some things about light and shadow that we wanted to play with."

Should you pre-order a James Bond 007 First Light Limited Edition PS5 controller?

I'm often asked whether a pre-order on anything, hardware or game, is something worth locking in at the first opportunity. When it comes to limited edition hardware, though, my advice is always to lock your unit down. If something really is limited edition, then rolling the dice and hoping for stock weeks after launch day is a recipe for disappointment.

If you can pre-order at a retailer that offers free cancellation too - like PlayStation Direct - then that means you'll at least have some time to reconsider your order between pre-order date and release date.

The extra factor here is the James Bond factor. It's one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and as such, I suspect there's going to be a lot of fans wanting to add any game-adjacent accessories and merch to their collections.

In a way, I hope I'm wrong, and everyone can bag the product who wants it, but I've seen limited edition DualSenses sell out in minutes before.

The design: I love goooooooold

The 007 First Light Limited Edition PS5 controller is very gold - so gold that I cannot think of anything else but a particularly character from the James Bond spoof films, the Austin Powers series.

It sports a barrel-esque design on it too which you can get a feel for if you focus on the vanishing point of it in the circle on the touchpad, but otherwise is very much a 'Man with the Golden DualSense' kind of design.

Every penny of it - how much does it cost?

Following the well-trodden path of limited edition DualSense controllers that came before it, the James Bond 007 First Light PS5 controller costs a similar amount in the US and UK: $84.99 / £74.99.

It's what we've come to expect from such limited edition DualSense releases, and at least it isn't the subject or has been affected by the recent PS5 console price hikes...

Will it be popular?

This is an interesting question really. One one hand I've seen a fair few limited edition DualSense controllers sell out in minutes; but on the other hand, I've seen supposed limited edition pads have seemingly enormous stock levels that never flicker or fluctuate, and remain available days and weeks after pre-orders open.

However, due to the former alone, you can never rely on the latter being the case henceforth. And with this being tied to an iconic entertainment franchise that's one of the biggest in the world in James Bond, and one of the most anticipated video games of the year, I'm inclined to think this one will be popular.

That's why we've played it safe and are getting our flag in the ground early so that we can be in the best position possible tomorrow to help folks when pre-orders start at 10am BST in the UK, and 10am ET in the US.

Where will it be?

The wording on the PS Blog post that announced the 007 First Light limited edition DualSense seems to indicate that the controller may well be only available at PlayStation Direct...

I say 'seems' because it doesn't mention the word 'exclusive' — but equally it doesn't use that eternal retail phrase, 'as well as participating retailers'. As a result, the links on this page extend to other non-PlayStation retailers, but it looks likely that PS Direct may be your best and only bet...

That's the key information you need ahead of tomorrow's pre-orders kicking off!

Nothing yet, though that's not too surprising as we don't often see limited edition DualSense listings going up early. Still, I have all the relevant pages open and will be refreshing them periodically just in case.

Right now it's a bit of a waiting game!

So when exactly are we waiting for?

Sony has confirmed that listings should go up at "10AM local time" in all applicable regions.

US pre-orders are a while away still, but those in the UK only have around two hours to go.

But what about the game itself?

Developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive, 007 First Light is shaping up to be an explosive Bond prequel with action to rival the high-intensity excellence of the films.

It's not a an adaptation of an existing movie, but rather an all-new story based on the original character by author Ian Fleming.

This spy hero is portrayed by Irish actor Patrick Gibson, who you might recognize from TV series Dexter: Original Sin.

Here's a bit of 007 First Light news to keep you in the Bond mood.

Like the films, the game will have its own title song and IO Interactive just released it so you can listen early.

It's called 'First Light' (not the most imaginative thing to call it, I have to say) and is the result of a collaboration between singer Lana Del Rey and composer David Arnold.

Written by Lana Del Rey, it marks the return of David Arnold, the renowned Bond franchise composer with credits for multiple movie scores, including Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace.

"This song joins a long line of genre defining songs, each one creating a benchmark of style that adds to the magnificent heritage that is 'The Bond Song'," he said in a press release.

It's nearing the end of the day here in the UK, so I'm preparing to log off. But, before I leave, I've got one last stock update for you.

In the US the situation is pretty straightforward. Every major retailer from PS Direct to Amazon, Walmart, and GameStop all have the James Bond 007 First Light PS5 controller up for grabs. Stock seems plentiful too, which is a good sign.

In the UK, things are a little weirder. Pre-orders are live at PS Direct, Very, Currys, and more - but we've still not seen any pre-order activity over at Amazon or Argos. This is definitely a little weird and means we'll presumably see them go live at some point over the weekend.

Sony has announced a brand-new variant of its DualSense wireless controller set to launch alongside 007 First Light this year.

The 007 First Light Limited Edition Dualsense controller will launch alongside the game on May 27, and pre-orders begin in a matter of days. Next week, in fact, on April 17.

As is usual for Sony's limited edition pads, it will cost you $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99, and have all the excellent features we've come to know and love from the PS5 controller, from haptics to adaptive triggers and great PC compatibility.

Naturally, it's the design that's the star of the show here, and Rasmus Poulsen, Franchise Art Director on 007 First Light, states in a new PlayStation Blog post that "Every element of the DualSense design was crafted as a celebration of Bond’s return, blending legacy and modernity to create a controller that feels unmistakably 007 from the moment you see it."

At the core of that is the controller's shiny golden sheen finish that's punctuated and complemented by darker, black features.

The controller features the instantly recognisable 007 logo in the middle of the touch pad with strong lines radiating from it, across the pad. On the rear of the pad, among the sea of goldness, the 007 First Light name and tagline of 'Earn the number' are present.

I think it looks very slick and chic, and I simply must add it to my collection. I love limited edition PS5 hardware like this, and with 007 First Light being one of my most anticipated games of the year, this seems like the perfect way to celebrate it.

As someone who spends hundreds of hours in Call of Duty every year, I've tested a wide range of KontrolFreek thumbsticks and practically always have a pair on my DualSense Wireless Controller at this point. While they're never going to fix bad aim, they do make a tangible difference to how your controller feels to use, and precise movement is definitely a little easier when you get used to the added height.

They're very affordable compared to splashing out on a high-end gamepad designed for first-person shooters, and give you a new way to customise the look of your controller. If you're a big first-person shooter fan, I'd recommend giving them a go, and this new pair might be just the model for you if you're a Call of Duty zombies fiend.

PlayStation Direct's sale on a range of PS5 goodies is coming to an end tonight, but such is the quality of the savings and products on offer, it's still definitely worth a look in these closing hours.

There are a whole bunch of discounts running now on everything from hard drives to PSVR 2, and from PS Portal accessory bundles to DualSense controllers, and I've highlighted a vast range of them below. There's never a bad time to consider upgrading or expanding your PS5 or Portal setup, but such sales are simply the perfect time to do so.

In terms of highlights, I think the PSVR 2 headset going for a whopping $100 off is worth considering - it's $299 right now at PlayStation Direct. I really like the Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition DualSense, and that's reduced by 20 bucks now to be just $64, while the ticks-all-boxes PlayStation Portal accessory bundle from PowerA is down to a value busting $59.99 right now, which is excellent.

The best places to buy the Marathon DualSense

If you're in the US, you can also still buy the Limited Edition Marathon Pulse Elite headset, which you cannot buy anywhere else apart from PlayStation Direct US.

On the whole, I'm a huge fan of all DualSense Wireless Controller designs and colorways, and while some critics of this pad think it's a bit plain or pared back, I think it's pretty cool. It's got a close link to the in-game artwork and setting, which elevates the whole design concept, and the accents are sharp, and the contrasts pop.

There's almost always room for another controller in console gaming setups, so now is a great time to add one, and do so with a slick limited edition pad.

As a PlayStation fanatic and collector, I am always hovering over the pre-order button for any and all DualSense editions that Sony releases.

And my interest has long been held in the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Limited Edition DualSense controller too. Right now, it's even had its price slashed at PlayStation Direct in the USA from $84, all the way down to just $64.

It's a subtle design and doesn't feature a massive Death Stranding-esque artwork emblazoned over it - but I can't help but want to add it to my collection.

It wasn't received hugely well by fans at the time of its launch last year, but I have long coveted and held a candle for it - and at this price, it's an excellent offering for a limited edition pad.

Remember, you won't find this controller anywhere else and certainly not at list price or this excellent discounted price.

I'm a huge fan of all DualSense Wireless Controller designs, on the whole, and while this one had its critics for being too plain, I've harbored an ongoing desire to add it to my PS5 collection. The contrasting orange design flares and graphics bounce beautifully off the blackness of the rest of the pad, and it remains an official pad adorned with officals nod to the game, which is always enjoyable in my eyes.

If you've been umming and ahhing about this particular pad since it was launched last year, then now is a superb time to strike and add it to your collection.

The PlayStation Portal is my favorite PS5 accessory; I simply couldn't imagine my gaming life without it now.

Despite it technically being an accessory itself, you can still equip the handheld with a range of other bits and bobs in its own right to really accentuate the experience. And boy, have I done my best to do exactly that over the years.

From earbuds to grips, and from carry cases to chargers, there's a bunch I can recommend from personal testing and ownership. I've even made the most of some PS5 and Nintendo Switch accessories on the Portal — see the controller and thumb grips below — so I have a strong grasp on what works and what doesn't.

I've tried dozens and dozens of PS5 games now that we're into the console's sixth year, and there really is a vast range of titles to choose from now. I've played and reviewed a whole host of titles on both of Sony's PS5 consoles, and have spotted a few to recommend today.

When you're looking to add to your library (or backlog), holiday sales days are the perfect time to pick up PS5 games at cheaper rates, giving you bombastic, thrilling, and memorable experiences without breaking the bank.

That's exactly the case this Presidents' Day: there are some absolutely terrific PS5 games discounted right now, and I've picked out nine of my favorites that I simply insist you must play and consider going for right now if you're on the prowl for a PS5 game deal.

The huge variety of Dualsense Wireless Controllers on offer is easily one of my favorite things about being a PlayStation 5 owner.

There's one out there for everyone, from flashy limited edition collaboration models celebrating some of the biggest Sony brands to attractive colorways ranging all the way from vibrant pink to deep blues and more.

I own a handful of DualSense controllers already, including the absolutely lovely The Last of Us Limited Edition, but I'm always looking to expand my collection. Here are some of the, in my opinion, lovely-looking models that are dominating my personal wishlist right now.

My personal DualSense wishlist

Over the years, and console generation after console generation, I've had to get used to controller shapes and hope that I can hold and use the next one as well as the last. PlayStation controllers have always been the best for me, but recently I've discovered a brilliant way to enhance them further, from an accessibility and comfort perspective: controller grips and thumb grips.

Ever since trying some of KontrolFreek's products a few years ago, I just haven't looked back, and - safely stored, limited edition controllers aside - I just can't imagine using a DualSense, or even my PlayStation Portal, without them. And the best thing is, they are super affordable, readily available, and darn easy to use.

While KontrolFreek's - and similar products from other brands - products like these are often positioned to give players an edge in competitive or online play, or make for refined and uber-efficient control input, they have simply been revolutionary for me from an accessibility point of view. There's such a range of products available that you can always find something for whatever controller type you use, too.

If you have smaller or different hands as I do and need just a little bit of extra grip to make things more comfortable, and to ensure a DualSense doesn't slip out of your hands - potentially breaking in the process - then these KontrolFreek PS5 accessories are not to be overlooked. And for comfortably less than $20 / £20, they really won't break the bank and prove you can really enhance your setup affordably and without spending a ton of cash.

• The characters' voices would be AI-generated and they would present gaming news to the player
• The AI podcast hosts would also discuss hardware or software updates and may even "joke at the video game player's expense"

Sony has reportedly obtained a new patent for AI-generated podcasts that would be voiced by its PlayStation characters.

As discovered by Tech4Gamers, Sony's new patent, titled LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers, aims to create personalized podcasts for gamers that are hosted from its platform rather than tutorial videos or guides they can find online.

"As recognized herein, video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide unique and targeted content to gamers to update the gamers about things that are happening on the platform," the patent description reads. "There are currently no adequate solutions to the foregoing computer-related, technological problem."

The patent, which was applied for back in July 2024 and was recently granted in late January, is also described as a tool to "generate a podcast of news related to the data, with the podcast presenting the news in a voice of a video game character of a video game played by the video game player".

This suggests Sony aims to use generative AI voices developed from its PlayStation characters, such as God of War's Kratos, to create these podcast episodes.

It describes a scenario where the player would boot up their console and see a message stating, “Your personalized podcast is available for today' seemingly tailored to the player's recent game sessions.

The patent also suggests that players can ask to exclude information, like news about games, or include details about games they don't own yet.

"In one example implementation, the data associated with the video game player's profile may include data related to a connection of the video game player as indicated in the video game player's profile, with the podcast indicating news related to gameplay of the connection," the patent reads.

Sony also says two video game characters could collaborate in one podcast, creating a crossover scenario, and discuss topics such as trophy achievements or a hardware/software update, as the drawings above showcase.

"In other news, there’s a software update for Gen X so update now," an image showing an AI host reads. The AI co-host adds, "Also, try a spin move on the boss next time!"

It also states that the AI podcast hosts "may include a joke at the video game player's expense" and "may include a recommendation of an action for the video game player to take in the video game".

This is just one of many patents Sony has reportedly filed that include the usage of generative AI. Last month, it patented new AI technology that will take control of PlayStation games when the player gets stuck and, most recently, a touchscreen controller patent that doesn't feature buttons or thumbsticks.

Sony has patented a controller design that looks like it would do away with buttons entirely, as well as the d-pad and thumbsticks.

The patent (spotted by Insider Gaming) was filed on January 27, 2026, and is now available to view publicly. It details a "buttonless" controller that, as hinted in the URL, could be an early concept for a potential PlayStation 6 controller rather than something for the PS5. Take that with a pinch of salt, naturally, as patents often don't lead to a fully-realized product.

Imagery in the patent depicts a controller with two large touchscreens, situated where the d-pad, face buttons, and thumbsticks would be. The touchscreens are located on the left and right of the pad, with a central "push button" dividing the two.

The patent also shows that the usual physical features of a controller are now elements that can be interacted with on the touchscreen. Players would be able to assign button, d-pad, and stick elements, as well as move them around and resize them according to preference. One image shows that elements could even overlap.

The Background section of the patent offers some insight as to how such a product could be beneficial to the end user, from an accessibility standpoint.

"One of the drawbacks of existing designs [of controllers] may be the fixed configuration," it reads. "By way of example, a fixed layout may be too small, or too large, for a user. Similarly, a fixed layout may not be comfortable to a user."

It goes on to state that: "There exists a desire for game controllers to allow for different configurations, and accommodate hand sizes without having to customize or manufacture controller size."

We've certainly seen evidence of this from PlayStation itself. The PlayStation Access controller, for example, is an accessibility-driven device that is highly modular, and allows for a swathe of layouts and setups.

Contemporary controllers are also adopting more advanced features, like swappable thumbstick layouts and additional remappable buttons. The likes of the Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded and Razer Raiju V3 Pro come to mind here.

It remains to be seen if Sony will do anything with this buttonless controller patent. But it's certainly an interesting idea that - if one can get over the loss of physicality that comes with touch screens - could be helpful in creating accessibility-driven button layouts without needing custom hardware setups.

Marathon Limited Edition PS5 controller pre-orders, along with the accompanying limited edition Pulse Elite headset stock, are now live in the US and UK.

Continuing a steady stream of limited edition or new colorways and designs of its DualSense controller, the Marathon-inspired addition to the range is, I think, a pretty smart addition. Channeling design principles and aesthetic similarities to the game and its world, it's a sharp design that will also be draped over a Pulse Elite headset for US folks.

In terms of available stock at the time I write this, UK folks can currently place orders at PlayStation Direct for the new controller, and US folks can head to PS Direct, Amazon, Best Buy, or GameStop.

Should you pre-order a Marathon Limited Edition PS5 controller or Pulse Elite headset?

If you're looking for a quick-fire bit of advice from me on whether you should pre-order the Marathon PS5 controller or roll the dice and hope stock is forever present or even there at launch, then the former wins out every single time. Always pre-order if you can and are willing and able.

While it's true that some recent new colorways and editions from Sony have not seen any trouble stock-wise, I never think it's worth running the risk. There are also two more reasons why I wouldn't risk not pre-ordering a Marathon PS5 controller or Pulse Elite headset.

First, is that these are limited edition items. Sony has put those two words in the product names of both items - it didn't with the HyperPop Collection, for example - and I tend to think that holds a bit of weight. We've seen several limited edition pads fly off the shelves, so there is previous evidence that the demand is there. Secondly, and despite its development process, these products are tied to a big Sony first-party game release in Marathon. This is only going to drive interest higher still, in my opinion - no matter the game's popularity with players (see also: Concord).

As a result, with pre-orders often being pain-free ways to at least reserve your new gaming accessory, and giving you time to finally decide before launch, my advice once again is to go for a pre-order over waiting for stock.

Welcome to my live coverage of the build-up to tomorrow's Marathon DualSense and PS5 Pulse Elite headset pre-orders.

As always, I'll be going over all the most important bits of information for both the items going up for pre-order tomorrow, as well as pre-order start times, and the best retailers for nailing down your pre-order.

What's up for extraction? (get it?)

Well, there's two answers to this.

For everyone, tomorrow's release sees a limited edition Marathon DualSense PS5 controller go up for pre-order.

However, for those in the US, you lucky folks can also order a limited edition PS5 Pulse Elite headset which is US-exclusive (and PS Direct exclusive)! Fancy.

When do pre-orders begin?

The next most important thing (probably) to know is when pre-orders exactly begin tomorrow (January 29) And I've got that information right here!

Pre-orders for the Marathon DualSense open at 10am local time in countries across Europe tomorrow.

Then, pre-orders will begin at 10am ET / 7am PT in the US for the DualSense and the Pulse Elite headset.

Simple stuff, and follows suit with previous pre-orders by Sony.

Let's talk pricing

A super key detail, as always, is pricing.

Generally, there are no surprises here as the DualSense will cost you $84.99 / £74.99 while the US-exclusive Pulse Elite headset will cost you $169.99.

That puts the DualSense price at the same as previous limited edition releases, but the limited edition Pulse Elite headset is, because it's a new thing, new pricing territory, and 20 bucks more than the standard Elite headsets.

About the design...

I liek the design of this DualSense! In the face of there being quite a lot of why space, the accents, design flares and contrasting green and pink flourishes set this one apart and really make it pop.

Should you pre-order a Hyperpop DualSense or console cover?

It's true that we've seen some of the most recent colorways and limited edition DualSense controllers retain stock levels after initial surges of interest, but my broad advice is to never rely on that happening.

In the context of weighing up a pre-order vs hoping stock remains in a few weeks' time (or similar), there'd be nothing worse than leaving it all to chance only to be disappointed. As a result, if you're keen, willing, and able, then I always recommend committing to a pre-order to ensure you have at least reserved your new bit of hardware ahead of launch. You can change your mind and often cancel with no penalty at the likes of PlayStation Direct and Amazon et al, so you can revisit the decision if you need to.

The fact remains, however, that PlayStation hardware launches are always popular, so my personal recommendation is to strike while the iron is hot and be safe in the knowledge that you've secured your new controller and/or console cover.

Howdy there, and welcome to this live coverage of the build-up toward the Hyperpop Collection pre-orders that are beginning tomorrow! I'm setting out my stall early, and putting my flag in the ground ahead of time to make sure you're covered in advance of stock dropping, and so we can cover all the key bits of information as to what's going to be on offer.

What *is* the Hyperpop Collection?

Unlike previous limit4ed edition DualSense release of recent times, the Hyperopo Collection is exactly that: a big ol' collection of multiple items.

In short, we've got three DualSense PS5 controllers launching tomorrow, as well as three PS5 Slim console cover sets.

They come in three very distinct and punchy colorways, too...

First, there's Techno Red

My personal favorite of the three is Techno Red. It's bright and bold, and a vivid shade of red covers over half of the DualSense and PS5 Slim console covers, gradually fading into black.

That gradient is something that all three colorways and designs have in common, and is pretty slick, I think. Certainly sets these apart from the solid color controllers too.

Then there's Remix Green

The same gradient applies with this incredibly bright green colorway. Not my favorite of the trio, honestly, but still very striking and sure to standout of any set up.

Lastly, there's Rhythm Blue

Rounding out the Hyperpop Collection is Rhythm Blue, a cool blue and black mix, and my second favorite of the three.

As you can see from those images, and just to reiterate - especially for collectors and those who like neat and tidy setups, it's a DualSense controller and PS5 Slim console cover set that are launching under each colorway - so that's six things in all.

Pre-order for the whole collection begin tomorrow, January 16, 2026, while the products actually launch and release on March 12, 2026. So there's a bit of time to wait between securing your order and it arriving.

How much?

Pricing details fall in line with expectations, really ,which is great.

The Hyperpop DualSense PS5 controllers will cost you $84.99 / £74.99 a piece, while the PS5 Slim console covers in any of the Hyperpop styles will come in at $74.99 / £64.99.

It's worth noting that Sony uses the phrase 'limited quantities' for the console covers specifically, but not the DualSenses - perhaps something to consider if you're after a new look for your console, rather than a new pad.

Time is key

By the way, it'll pay to be prepared tomorrow if you want to lock down your accessories, as pre-orders, once again, will start at 10am local time.

Where will you be able to pre-order?

We've got a bit of a split in terms of availability with the Hyperpop Collection - or exclusivity at least.

The DualSense should be available at PlayStation Direct as well as other go-to retailers like regular PS5 controllers - great!

Sony has just lifted the curtain on its latest accessory collection, and I can't be the only one that thinks that everything in it is seriously ugly.

Dubbed the 'Hyperpop Collection' it offers three new accessory colorways: Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue. Each one is basically a bright primary color, paired with a black gradient. The designs are available on new DualSense Wireless Controller models or PS5 Slim console covers.

Honestly, all three colorways look like something a ten year old would whip up in Photoshop when messing around with the gradient tool and I won't be falling over myself to add any of the new gear to my collection.

Commenters on the YouTube reveal trailer seem a little more positive towards the collection. "Finally after 22 years, PlayStation has the Mountain Dew edition," wrote one fan. "That green controller looks absolutely insane and fire. I want that green one," added another.

Many have pointed out the apparent lack of PlayStation Pro console covers, though. Indeed, looking at the official press release it does appear as though PS5 Pro owners have been left in the cold a bit with this one.

The Hyperpop DualSense Wireless Controllers will retail for $84.99 / £74.99, while the PS5 Slim console covers will cost $74.99 / £64.99. Sony states that the console covers will only be available in "limited quantities" and "select markets" - so presumably the company is not anticipating that much demand.

This might be the reason why there seems to be no PS5 Pro variants for now. Maybe we'll see them announced down the line if these new colorways are a hit.

The entire collection will be available to pre-order from January 16 at 10AM ET in the US or 10AM local time in the UK.

Should you pre-order the Genshin Impact Limited Edition DualSense controller?

I will get the caveat and obvious thing out of the way here first by saying that Sony seems to have learned its lessons about ensuring plentiful stock with recent DualSense releases. Previously, it would be over in a flash, and we'd never see stock again, but now things do stick around for longer.

However, if you're a big Genshin Impact fan and approaching this in the context of whether to commit to a pre-order to ensure your unit, or wait until the release date, then I always have to recommend committing and going for it. Securing your unit and not gambling is always going to be the best course of action.

Despite the recent stock levels of pads like the Ghost of Yotei, God of War, and Astro Bot Joyful DualSense, there's no way of telling the exact stock levels of a new controller, and no way of telling the exact level of demand it'll have - and no guarantee of restocks should something sell out.

As a result, if you're hesitating a little over a Genshin Impact DualSense pre-order, my advice is that you go for it and commit - at least that way you have secured your unit, and you can even cancel should you wish before the pad's release next year.

In the UK, however, HMV went early - the day early - so I'll be keeping an eye on them in particular.

In the US, every retailer seemed to play ball, and PS Direct was the first, best bet, and then everyone else followed suit.

Will there be stock problems?

Now this is a great question and thing to consider before the launch of pre-orders on any new bit of Sony hardware - especially if it's limited edition.

I'd like to think that even Sony would use the term limited edition accurately, so this does imply that there will be only a set amount going up for sale - and that might be it.

However, given it's not a PlayStation Direct exclusive, and multiple retailers will therefore be stocking the controller, I reckon we won't be faring too badly come tomorrow.

But does that mean you shouldn't pre-order?

I'm hopeful of stock levels, but I, naturally, can't guarantee anything, and it always pays to be cautious - and in this context that will likely mean committing to a pre-order to ensure you get your unit, rather than leaving it to chance when the pad releases into the wild.

I realise I forgot this bit of key info among the rest: the release date.

And it is key because it's staggered a little. The Genshin Impact PS5 controller comes out first in Asia, on January 21, 2026, while it comes out in the rest of the world on February 25, 2026.

A tip or two for PlayStation Direct

I've found that PlayStation Direct can be a bit iffy at the critical time with recent launches so have found a bit of a shotgun scatter approach is best if you're gunning for Sony's official storefront.

Definitely make sure you're logged in wherever you have it loaded up and have the right payment details.

You'll also want to make sure you have it on both desktop and mobile if possible just to cover your bases. And if you can on desktop, I've found having a back up log in on a different browser sometimes comes to the rescue too!

PlayStation's 2025 Wrap-Up is here - if you can get it to load now - and it's a pretty cool smattering of details, info, and data that PS users get every year.

I'm always eager to see this flash presentation of my year in PlayStation, particularly so given it's my main platform, and I try and play, well, everything I can on my PS5 Pro.

Anyway, this year goes way beyond just giving you gaming stats, trophy data, and the time spent in each game you played on PS5 and PS4.

This year, Sony even shows you - satisfyingly, I think - which color of DualSense you used the most, and some data about PlayStation Portal usage (only if you have one, presumably).

The Wrap-Up can now show you how many different games you played on your Portal, how many sessions you had, and how many hours overall - neat!

We knew that Sony had and was interested in using this kind of info when we spoke to Takuro Fushimi, Senior Manager, Product Management at Sony, about the big Portal update last month, but it's still fascinating to see one's own info in the light of day.

I'm a huge fan of this beyond the Portal stuff, too; however, as my Wrap-Up will now even tell me what DualSense colorway I used most!

As you can see from above, it was Midnight Black this year, and that's likely because when I received it as a gift last Christmas, I teamed it with some KontrolFreek grips of the same color to create the perfect, color-coordinated pad that's stuck to me like glue.

I'd love to get a breakdown of this in a league table - although that could add a bit of shame with the ones I barely use, or don't use at all.

Sony has announced a new DualSense Wireless controller that will go on sale next week, and it's inspired by one of the most popular free-to-play games.

Starting December 11, preorders for the Genshin Impact DualSense will go live at PlayStation Direct and select retailers in limited quantities for $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99 / ¥12,480.

The PS5 controller will launch on January 21, 2026, in select markets across Asia, including Japan, and will be released later on February 25, 2026, in North America, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

The DualSense's reveal comes ahead of the launch of Genshin Impact's next major update, Version Luna III, on December 3.

Featuring a white, gold, and green color palette, the controller is adorned with arcane glyphs from Genshin Impact, including emblems of the game's dual protagonists and Traveler Twins, Aether and Lumine, and their companion guide, Paimon.

"We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to present the DualSense Wireless Controller – Genshin Impact Limited Edition to our players and fans around the world," said Wenyi Jin, president of global publishing and operations at HoYoverse, in the PlayStation Blog post.

Sony's annual Black Friday sale has been announced, and this year, PS5 consoles, software, and more PlayStation hardware will see a significant price cut for a limited time.

The PlayStation Black Friday event begins on November 21, and all PS5 consoles will receive a $100 discount.

This deal includes the PS5 Digital Edition 825GB - Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle, which is priced at $399.99, and the PS5 1TB - Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle for $449.99, both of which come with additional, PlayStation-exclusive in-game content and 1,000 V-Bucks.

I'm a keen collector of limited edition PS5 hardware - I haven't got every single variant but I do have quite a few. Loads of people are similarly becoming avid collectors this generation, and almost every single limited edition console, DualSense or accessory we've seen come from Sony has sold out - until now, it seems.

After a smattering of back to back limited edition DualSense releases in recent months, it appears that, actually, there's a fair few limited edition DualSenses that are all certified beauties somehow still available to buy.

If you're looking for info on where to buy the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller that's released this week, then I have you covered, as I've collated all the best links to help you get the new limited edition PS5 controller.

Continuing the steady stream of new limited and special edition PS5 controllers, the newly announced Icon Blue Special Edition is a beauty of a moody blue gamepad, and pays homage to the PlayStation's 30-year heritage.

Cutting to it, as of October 23, and as pointed out by a friendly reader to me, stock at Walmart US is now limited to in-store pick up only. That means you'll have to get lucky with your nearby Walmart store/s and hope they have one on the shelves - if they do, then you should still be able to purchase it online for pickup later.

Walmart Canada's stock is still holding, though, and has all the purchasing options still live.

It's exclusive to the US, Canada, Mexico, and Chile, so only lucky gamers in those regions will be able to grab it. Further to that, it looks like a close collaboration between Sony and Walmart, and the latter will be the only seller in those four regions.

US shoppers got access to it slightly earlier, however, when it went live there on October 20, while folks in the other regions will have to wait until October 28 - though Canadian gamers can pre-order it at Walmart Canada right now.

The price is in line with previous limited edition DualSense Wireless Controllers: in the US, it's live at Walmart for $84, in Canada, the listing is at $109.96, and in Mexico and Chile, it'll cost $1,899 MXN / $93,490 CLP, respectively.

For a bit of info on the design, Leo Cardoso from Sony's Color, Material, and Finish design team said in the PS Blog announcement post: "Inspired by PlayStation’s iconic shades of blue, this design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller. As a nod to our origins, we added Katakana characters on the back that spell our name the Japanese way: Pureisutēshon." Very nice.

Sony is on a constant roll, it seems, of releasing new DualSense editions, and it's just announced yet another new one that's going to come out later this month: the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense.

Designed to pay homage to PlayStation's history and heritage, this pad is a slick-looking, moody-blue variant that I'm desperate to add to my collection.

However, there's a catch. A catch that makes me very sad. This limited edition PS5 controller will only be available in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Chile. And further to that, US shoppers will get it earlier: in America, it'll be on sale from October 20, and in the other countries, it'll go on sale on October 28. I have asked Sony to clarify whether this is initially for pre-orders or if it is going to be straight-up available from these dates.

It appears to be a collaboration or partnership with retailer Walmart, as the PS Blog states that the controller will be available at "Walmart locations in these regions as well as on Walmart’s official site."

As with previous limited edition controllers, the US price will be $84.99, and in Canada, Mexico, and Chile, it'll cost $109.99 CAD / $1,899 MXN / $93,490 CLP, respectively.

As for the details on this DualSense Wireless Controller's design, it's blue. Very blue. As rumors circulate about a new PlayStation 5 Pro, another leak claims a new DualSense wireless controller will be released this year and feature a removable battery.

That's according to Polish outlet PPE, (via PlayStation Lifestyle), which accurately reported on the recent announcement of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 coming to PS5.

It claims that a new DualSense controller, privately known as "DualSense V3", will launch in November alongside the revised PS5 Pro, and replace the current PS5 controller models.

But the biggest difference with "DualSense V3" is that, for the first time, it will feature a removable battery.

Unlike current models that come with a built-in rechargeable battery and require players to charge their controller with a USB or docking station, the new DualSense will reportedly allow players to swap out batteries, like Xbox controllers.

Though not reported, this also suggests that Sony could be preparing to announce new DualSense battery packs, which would likely be sold separately.

Sources also claim that the new DualSense controller will be bundled with the revised PS5 Pro, which is reportedly releasing in Europe on September 30 and could cost €799.99, with no word on a US release.

Hot off the heels of a second Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense that's out now, Sony has revealed a new Kratos-inspired limited edition controller to bolster the DualSense ranks even further.

The God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition DualSense goes up for pre-order at PlayStation Direct and other participating retailers on October 3, but the launch date has not been fully disclosed as of yet.

Revealed as part of the September 24 State of Play presentation, it's immediately recognizable as a God of War-inspired controller with Kratos' trademark red tattoo covering a white-to-light grey background with other elements of both colors on the thumbsticks and D-pad buttons.

As some returning readers may have gathered by now, I'm a massive cheerleader for the DualSense Wireless Controller. It's a superb controller in any form or design, given its excellent ergonomic symmetrical design, features and buttons, and performance. The same returning readers might also remember that I'm a big controller collector, so I'll be looking to lock this one down too when pre-orders go live - especially, as it's inspired by a series I love.

We know it'll cost $84.99 / £74.99 as per the official PlayStation Blog post, but in terms of exactly where to get it, we don't know quite yet.

PlayStation Direct's DualSense page has to be your first port of call so I've included a handy link to that below, as well as some of the best links to other retailers likely to get involved.

To be brutally honest, I think this is a relatively tame Limited Edition controller from Sony. I'm a collector, so I will be tempted, of course, but it does appear that it's only a few licks of red paint different from the standard white DualSense controller...

As a result, it's a design which might make the controller only for the biggest - but be that as it may, or not, I'll be covering the latest stock.

Sony’s DualSense controller from the PlayStation 5 has been able to be used for mobile phones, computers, and just about anything else, but with the caveat that it needs to be paired again to use with your console.

Now, a new firmware update will mean you no longer need to go through the rigmarole of pairing each time. You’ll now be able to have not one, not two, but four connections you can switch between.

The update was revealed in July, but finally hits controllers the world over today. You’ll need to plug your pad in to update it, but doing so will let you register four devices simultaneously.

You can switch between them using a combination of one of the four face ‘Action’ buttons (Triangle, Square, Cross, Circle) and the PlayStation button.

Here’s how Sony explained it:

• Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your controller are off. If they’re turned on, press and hold the PS button until they turn off.
• Press and hold one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) and the PS button for over 5 seconds. The light bar and player indicator flash twice.
• Turn on Bluetooth on your device, and select the option to add Bluetooth® devices. Your device detects nearby Bluetooth devices.
• Select your controller from the detected devices. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.

Each of the four slots has its own number of light bar ‘blinks’ to help discern which device to connect to.

• Circle - Two Lights
• Cross/X - Three Lights
• Square - Four Lights

So, if you’re connecting to a PC, a phone, a tablet, and a PlayStation 5, you now have functionality to switch between all of them. Simple and very welcome stuff!

Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller pre-orders are now live in the UK and US and readily available on both sides of the pond!

The original Limited Edition Astro Bot DualSense controller that launched last year was one of the most popular ones released to date, and stock absolutely flew off the digital shelves when pre-orders began - and when any other stock appeared.

What actually is the Astro Bot Joyful Limited Edition DualSense?

Taking me a little by surprise with an announcement - only on social media - Sony and PlayStation revealed the Astro Bot Joyful DualSense rather out of the blue this week.

It's a wonderfully cheerful controller in the design of PlayStation's new leading mascot, and features joyous little eyes on the touchpad to make it stand out.

In reality, it's not that different from the original Astro Bot controller design. However, that controller was immensely popular and sold out very quickly. So there was always cause from that perspective for Sony to either go for more stock or to create something like this: another Astro Bot Dualsense.

Cut to the chase - key details

While we haven't got all the details about this particular controller yet - chief among them, the price tag.

We know that pre-orders begin tomorrow at 10am local time at PlayStation Direct and other participating retailers. We also know that it comes out on October 12. Nice

Now, we don't know how much it costs exactly, but I'd wager it's the same as other limited edition controllers and will be $84.99 or £74.99.

Where will it be available?

Luckily, this isn't locked to PlayStation Direct as an exclusive - but that online shop is still likely to be the best bet for stock, availability, and timeliness of pre-orders starting.

Why release a new variant now?

This is a good question that I've been wrestling with, too.

The only broadly relevant point or factor I can think of is that we are now just over a year from Astro Bot's PS5 release on September 6, 2024, and the initial announcement of the Joyful edition was even closer to that anniversary (September 5).

Could it be a broad anniversary-timed thing? Maybe, though it's also dangerously close to the Ghost of Yotei PS5 console pre-orders and Ghost of Yotei controller pre-orders that started recently, too.

Curious, but I'll always take another limited edition DualSense release, whenever it comes.

I think things are levelling out now. There's been no new stockists joining the game, it's holding at other places we expected it to, and there's been no huge drop off (Amazon UK aside), and we're not more than two hours on from lift off time.

What makes the Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller different?

If you were following the previous limited edition Astro Bot DualSense release, then you might be wondering just what makes this new Joyful version so different.

Well, as the name would suggest, it all comes down to the controller's expression - for lack of a better word. The original model had quite a neutral look, with big round eyes on its touchpad.

The Joyful variant, however, is a lot more cheerful, with more crescent moon shaped pupils that leave it looking like a happy little robot.

• Sony has unveiled a new variant of the Limited Edition Astro Bot DualSense
• It features a different style of design, but similar aesthetic to the first variant

In superb news for PS5 hardware collectors and Astro Bot fans, Sony recently revealed a new variant of the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense, and it's coming soon - the Astro Bot Joyful Limited Edition DualSense.

Announced last week with a fun little video on social media, the new controller features a slightly altered design from the original - which I absolutely love - and will launch on October 30, with pre-orders beginning on Friday (September 12).

It's got that same robotic aesthetic draped all over it in a pleasing combo of white and Astro Bot blue, and features 'happy' eyes on the touch pad, making it a perfect companion to the game - and now its predecessor controller.

I'm a huge fan of the DualSense Wireless Controller in any form, given its excellent features, ergonomics, and performance. I'm also a big collector of the pads, too, and try to ensure I get as many as possible for my collections, especially those tied to games I really love.

Even though this new Astro Bot DualSense is only a little different from the original one I already own, having the pair of them together will be an absolute delight, and it cuts to the core of what building a collection is about.

Even in the face of the host of Yotei PS5 DualSense pre-orders - and Ghost of Yotei PS5 console pre-orders, too - this Astro Bot controller looks like a diamond, and it will definitely fly off the digital shelves as soon as pre-orders open. In terms of where to get it, PlayStation Direct's DualSense page is likely to be the best early page to view and bookmark, though other retailers are going to get involved (as per Sony's post above).

To be the devil's advocate, if Sony were going to release another one of these controllers, it probably could have been a bit more creative with the variant's design. It could have made it totally different, really. However, Sony may just be bouncing off the immense popularity of the original, and I, for one, am positive that the original interest will see this one disappear just as quickly as the first.

Remember, if you want this pad, pre-orders go live this Friday, September 12, and it releases on October 30.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the build-up to the Ghost of Yotei PS5 and controller pre-orders that are beginning tomorrow!

These limited edition versions of PS5 hardware look absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to get my hands on at least something from the collection.

I've been around the block when it comes to hardware launches so you can keep it right here for the best links, most useful info, and everything else to help you nab your limited edition PS5, DualSense, or console cover.

Key info - pre-order timings

Right, let's get into the key information to make sure we're all on the right page ahead of pre-orders dropping.

First and foremost, when do Ghost of Yotei PS5 console and controller pre-orders open?

Simply, pre-orders will kick off at 10am local time around the world (at participating retailers, like PlayStation Direct) tomorrow, September 4, 2025.

Simple!

What's actually on offer?

Whast makes this hardware launch special is that it isn't a single-product release like a single DualSense or console cover. There are multiple things on offer here, including:

• A black-artwork-themed PS5 bundle
• A gold-artwork-themed PS5 bundle
• A black-artwork-themed PS5 controller
• A gold-artowkr-themed PS5 controller
• Gold-artowkr-themed PS5 Slim console cover
• Gold-artwork-themed PS5 Pro console cover

As a result there's plenty to consider, and plenty to weigh up depending on how hard you want to go.

As you can see, I've mentioned two different colored artworks there, and this is perhaps the most interesting thing about these limited edition products...

Two distinct styles

Across the PS5 bundles and DualSense controllers there are two distinct varieties that area available.

While both share the same beige-y colorway, the use of black and gold as the primary art color on both is intentional and deeply meaningful.

The gold artwork evokes and relates to the Japanese art form of kintsugi, where gold is mixed with lacquer to repair broken ceramics; while the black artwork is very redolent of the Japanese art form of Sumi-e, where black ink is used on art.

The result on these PS5 hardware items is distinct styles and a collector's dream: I, for example, simply must have variants of both in some form.

What's available where?

Broadly speaking, we're going to see some great availability of the Ghost of Yotei PS5 consoles and controller pre-orders. However there is one or two key bits of info to be aware of.

In short, and in an attempt to be concise:

• The black console and controller will only be available at PS Direct - gold will be available there and at other retailers
• The console covers will likely be PS Direct exclusives as we don't see them up for sale at other places regularly

By the way, with the Black artwork-inspired gear only being available from PS Direct, I expect that to be the hottest stuff of the collection.

Even more so with everyone being funnelled to one location to try and get the console bundle or DualSense.

If you're going to be gunning for those items, then I'd focus all your efforts there when pre-orders kick off.

So, what are you most excited for today out of the collection?

For me, the DualSense controllers are the priority as I love collecting them, and those designs are exquisite. I might be tempted by the PS5 Pro plates as well, but with the way my console is stored, I'm not sure I'd get the best use or enjoyment out of them.

Either way, I've got all the relavant pages open and ready to go myself for personal use, so you know I'm invested in this deeply as well - I'll help you get whatever you need out of the collection.
