While much of the attention on the new Apple TV 4K — now in its fourth generation — may focus on the sticker shock of the $299 / £299 / AU$449 price, it also brings some notable features. Siri AI offers a more robust personal assistant experience via the Siri Remote or the box's far-field microphones. It also has a faster processor to speed things up and supports four HomePod 2 or HomePod mini 2 speakers in a surround setup.

But if you were really hoping to use Siri AI on Apple’s streaming box, maybe to pull up recommendations friends might have suggested or to figure out whether a character is based on a real person, and you don’t want to spend the extra cash on an upgrade, I've got good news.

Alongside announcing the Apple TV 4K (4th generation), Apple has confirmed that Siri AI will arrive on older Apple TV models via a forthcoming software update. The release note reads, “Siri AI is available as a beta on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later), and is available at launch in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK in English.”

That means the AI-powered, more personalized Siri will arrive on the Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen, 3rd Gen, and the new 4th generation, which begins shipping on November 13, 2026. And since the newest model will launch with Siri AI, that might hint at when Apple will roll out the tvOS 27.2 software update to the other two models. As a reminder, the 2nd Gen shipped in 2021, and the 3rd Gen launched in 2022.

That’s excellent news, because the new Siri AI isn’t just better at basic tasks; it also brings broader knowledge and personal context. So whether it’s pulling up an album your best friend recommended weeks ago that you can’t quite remember, or trying to recount a specific episode you and a family member were up to, the assistant can tap into that info to answer the query.

I saw a few demos of that on the new Apple TV 4K, and even though these older models have less power under the hood, Apple hasn’t said that Siri AI’s features will be limited. So while they could be a hair or two slower, it should still be a strong experience.

If nothing else, it’s a free upgrade that gives you another way to interact with Apple TV and find content. Beyond the added personal queries, you can also get richer recommendations and suggestions when you ask Siri for content.

Further, if, beyond Siri AI’s arrival with the Apple TV 4K 4th Gen, you were also enticed by the new Siri Remote, which adds a speaker to make a chirping sound when you’re trying to track it down, or the ability to use Precision Finding for exact directions on how to find the remote when it’s deep in couch cushions with a compatible iPhone, you can purchase the upgraded remote with UWB (ultra-wideband) and the speaker from Apple, and it works with previous-gen Apple TVs. Apple's already taking orders for the updated Siri Remote for $59 here, and it's on Amazon.com for the same price here.

So, with a free, forthcoming update for Apple TV 4K 2nd and 3rd Gen that’ll bring Siri AI to select areas, and the fact that you can get the Siri Remote for a price, these two additions will bring some new features and could very well make the Apple TV 4K feel fresh again.

We'll report back once Apple announces when this update will arrive, but for now all we know is that tvOS 27.2 is coming.

I fondly remember when Apple brought the price down on the Apple TV 4K box, and then I also remember the unfortunate price hikes from earlier in 2026. That pushed the Apple TV 4K without Ethernet to $199 / £199 / AU$299 and the one with Ethernet to $249 / £249 / AU$399.

Now, alongside the HomeView and the second-generation HomePod mini, Apple is ushering in the new Apple TV 4K and sunsetting the previous models. It keeps a similar shape — it's still a black square with curved edges and a logo up top — but there are some new tricks here.

It also carries a new price point: the Apple TV 4K (2026) comes in one version and costs $299 / £299 / AU$449. That’s a big jump, especially when compared with competing Roku players and Fire TV Sticks. It’s actually the same price as the new Apple HomeView, which includes a screen and speakers. Still, it's up for preorder now — beginning October 13, 2026 — and ships on November 13, 2026.

I’ve spent a bit of time with the refreshed Apple TV 4K, seeing it work through some Siri AI tasks and hearing its new audio capabilities, which include the ability to work with up to four HomePod speakers in a surround setup.

That could mean two second-generation HomePods up front and two HomePod mini second-generation as rear speakers, four full-sized HomePod 2 units, or four HomePod mini 2 units.

By far the most meaningful upgrade, and the one that shows Apple’s listening to customers, is the new Siri Remote. Now in its fourth generation, it can finally chirp and emit a sound when you can’t find it. So you can ask, “Hey Siri, where’s my remote?” to no one in particular (the Apple TV 4K box's microphones will hear you) and the remote will emit a sound.

It’s pretty loud, though Apple isn’t sharing the exact decibel level, and it should be very audible even if the remote is stuck deep between couch cushions, in a pile on the floor, or somewhere else entirely.

If you also have an iPhone 17 or newer, iPhone Air, or iPhone Duo, you can open Find My, tap Devices, and then use Precision Finding to help you locate the remote. These are both super-helpful features, and you don’t need the new Apple TV 4K to take advantage of them, as this remote is backwards compatible with the Apple TV HD and previous Apple TV 4K models. I’m still waiting for price confirmation, but for reference, the current Siri Remote is $59 / £59 / AU$89.

As someone who’s bought into the sound quality of the HomePods since the first generation, which sadly isn’t supported here, this is a welcome upgrade. But you do need a lot of new hardware.

Theoretically, that’s $895 / £895 / AU$1,365 for an Apple TV 4K and four HomePod mini 2 units, or $1,695 / £1,695 / AU$2,645 for four second-generation HomePods and the Apple TV 4K, or $1,295 / £1,295 / AU$2,005 for two HomePod mini 2s, two second-generation HomePods, and an Apple TV 4K.

I heard a brief snippet of Widow’s Bay, which streams on Apple TV, with the latter setup: two full-sized HomePods next to a TV and two HomePod mini 2s a bit farther back behind a couch. It sounded really good, and compared with just two HomePods, the full setup offered a much wider experience that excelled at showing off both the low and high ends, from a quieter scene that ramped into a more vibrant one. This combo packs a punch.

There's no doubt that $299 / £299 / AU$449 for a streaming box, even with that audio capability, is a lot. But the Apple TV 4K does pack in a few other bells and whistles. Under the hood, it should be speedier, with quicker app launches and more runway into the future thanks to the A19 processor.

The new Apple TV 4K also supports Siri AI at launch in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, and South Africa.

This lets you ask questions with personal context, like, “Hey Siri, what was the episode of Star Wars Rebels I was talking about with Max?” or “What was that show that Benjie recommended a few months back in the group chat?”

Leaning on personal context from a connected iPhone, it can deliver those results, and it worked quickly in a demo, pulling up an episode of Ted Lasso in short order.

That about wraps up the new Apple TV 4K — it replaces the previous-generation models, though if those get discounted, they’re definitely worth a look. It’s available to order now ahead of its November 13, 2026 launch.

It’s a sizable price increase, and I wish Apple still offered the previous generation as a more affordable option, something like an entry-level iPad equivalent or an “e” option, similar to the iPhone 17e.

It’s clear that this is a higher-end, premium streaming box, but we’ll need to spend some time with it to see how it compares and whether the $299 / £299 / AU$449 price point is worth it. Let me know what you think in the comments below, particularly your thoughts on that higher price and feature set.

With extended commentary, original content, and more in addition to race coverage, Apple has aimed to innovate and differentiate the experience from what it formerly was. For starters, if you subscribe to Apple TV in the States, you get it for free. On top of that, there's a clean, modern set of visuals around the action, with several view options, including the ability to customize your own multi-view setup, and, most notably, Dolby Vision support.

Apple wants to up the immersion, though, and is deepening its partnership with Dolby to bring Dolby Atmos to its live broadcast of Formula 1 races, starting with the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Notably, it doesn't require changing microphones or the existing race-broadcast setup.

Speaking with TechRadar, Jim DeLorenzo, Apple's Global Head of Sports, noted that this innovation had been on the vision board for quite some time. "One of the things that we thought about for quite some time is the audio side of that... how can we get to a point where we have not just Dolby Vision, but Dolby Atmos."

And Apple isn't swapping out the microphones used around the track to make it happen. "We don't change the mic array for this," DeLorenzo told TechRadar. Instead, Apple is working with the existing microphone setup used for the F1 broadcast.

DeLorenzo said sound is a big part of what makes a live event feel different from watching at home. "Any sporting event, when you're there, one of the things that is so impactful on the experience is the sound," he said. "Because the sound in an F1 race is so visceral... if we can bring a little bit more of this into somebody's viewing experience when they're not at the track, that's going to help connect them a little bit more."

"We are always trying to figure out, how do we break down that barrier a little bit between the people who can go to the event and the people who are watching at home?" DeLorenzo added. "Because the reality is, the vast majority of people are not going to the live sporting event that they're watching, right? They're watching at home. So, we want to try and break that down so people can have that same kind of experience and feel like they're there."

I got to hear a Dolby Atmos mix of some previous races, played as a clip at an event in New York City. Unsurprisingly, it's a night-and-day difference, one that not only adds spatial audio, especially in a room outfitted with a full 9.1.4 setup, but also pulls you into the action. If cars zoom left to right across the screen during a turn, you hear them move that way.

It's similar to the Spatial Audio experience on AirPods Max or Beats 360, but the Dolby Atmos mix is even more impressive for live sport because it pulls you in. You hear the roar and rumble of the engines, the crowd's cheers, and the general atmosphere of the track.

It will never be the same as being in the grandstands or the paddock, but it gives you a better sense of what's happening in a given scene, and you can spot a leading car, or one making a move in a turn ,a bit more quickly. The audio matches the visuals for a more immersive, closer-to-the-stands feel. You can even hear it in the footage I filmed of the engineers switching from the stereo mix to the Dolby Atmos mix.

DeLorenzo says the production team was excited about it: "This one is pretty cool in that it's never been done before with F1," he said. "When you can do something that's never been done before... it raises the bar even more."

Dolby Atmos with Formula 1 broadcasts is a first, but whether that eventually extends to MLS or Friday Night Baseball remains to be seen.

However, judging by other firsts, as with Friday Night Baseball being shot with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and then Apple TV expanding that to MLS, it’s clear that innovations tend to be spread around.

As for what comes next for Formula 1, Apple isn't saying. "It's still just year one," DeLorenzo noted, and the company is "always trying to see how we innovate and go bigger and make the experience better for fans."

While Apple isn't saying what those next steps might be, DeLorenzo teased that things are already happening behind the scenes. "We're trying all kinds of stuff that hasn't shipped yet, that we hope to ship at some point," he told me.

Might that mean a truly immersive experience fit for Vision Pro, as we’ve seen with select NBA games or Friday Night Baseball? Or maybe it’s mounting an iPhone on a Formula 1 car or at the finish line, or even pulling just the sensor similar to F1 The Movie?

Time will tell, but for now I'm excited to hear them punch it in Dolby Atmos for the United States Grand Prix in Austin come October 22.

How will AFC Richmond Women react to Mae's death following their promotion to the English Women's Super League? And will they be further impacted if (or, rather, when) Zelda Stanton's hostile takeover of the club takes place? I can't answer either of those questions, but I can tell you when its season 4 finale will be released, so read on to learn more.

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10?

Titled 'The Departing Lass', Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10 is expected to premiere in the US and Canada at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, October 6.

If you're a regular around these parts, you'll know I've often said that Apple is supposed to release the next episode of its new and returning shows every Wednesday at 12am PT in North America.

That's the company's public line, anyway. In reality, new chapters of Apple TV Originals like Ted Lasso have aired on Tuesday evenings at the previously mentioned times. With all nine episodes of Ted Lasso 4 doing just that, there's no reason to suspect that its 10th and final entry won't do likewise.

As for the rest of the world, this week's installment will still make its debut on one of the best streaming services on Wednesday, October 7. Check out the list below to see what time it'll come out near you:

• US — Tuesday, October 6 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• Canada — Tuesday, October 6 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• UK — Wednesday, October 7 at 2am BST
• India — Wednesday, October 7 at 6:30am IST
• Singapore — Wednesday, October 7 at 9am SGT
• Australia — Wednesday, October 7 at 11am AEST
• New Zealand — Wednesday, October 7 at 1pm NZST

Has Ted Lasso season 5 been announced yet?

No. However, there have been murmurings that a fifth season of Ted Lasso is in early development. Filming could also begin in January 2027 (per 9to5Mac and Apple Insider).

Speaking to ScreenRant earlier this year, Apple TV senior vice president Eddy Cue said he hoped that more seasons would get made and that Ted Lasso is "certainly good enough" to warrant at least one more run-out.

It seems there's an appetite for more from viewers, too, after Variety reported that Ted Lasso season 4 had the biggest premiere in Apple TV history when it launched in mid-August.

Of course, its audience share could've tailed off significantly since then. Right now, though, it seems there's still a market for more Richmond-based adventures, so don't be surprised if Ted Lasso season 5 is officially given the greenlight in the days or weeks ahead.

Now, she stars as delusional wife Jenna in gripping Australian Apple TV thriller Last Seen, which follows emergency dispatcher Ian (Patrick Brammall) trying to find his missing daughter after a mysterious phone call suggests she's alive years after going missing.

It's a gripping watch from start to finish, but I can't help wishing that Peake had more screen time. Did that stop me blurting out "I love you" during a Zoom call about the series? Absolutely not.

More than anything, I wanted to know what Peake recommended that fans should watch next, whether that was continuing the same vibe or finding something completely different to decompress.

She went with the latter not only by choosing my favorite British comedy series of 2026, but by picking something that isn't going to cost you a dime to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Maxine Peake is a huge fan of Ann Droid on BBC iPlayer — and I don't blame her

"I would go to the BBC and I would watch Ann Droid with Diane Morgan," Peake tells me. "It's another side of some Boltonian joy."

I'd completely forgotten that this is where both Peake and Morgan come from, but even without the geographical link, it's an excellent shout. if you've not yet seen the hit comedy series, Morgan plays Linda, a secondhand AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot gifted to widow Sue (Sue Johnston) by her son Michael (Kevin Ready).

Basically, it's like Channel 4's Humans meets a Royale Family and Motherland reunion that we weren't expecting, and it's nothing short of glorious. Clearly, everybody else who's watched thinks the same thing, as season 2 was renewed shortly after all six episodes of season 1 were released.

Morgan is truly the most talented, authentic and unique voice in Western comedy at the moment, but even those, this is huge praise from Peake. Why? her first job out of drama school was snarky Twinkle in Dinnerladies, the classic Victoria Wood sitcom.

Despite only running for two seasons, it's a cornerstone of British sitcom culture, a baton that Morgan has picked up and run with. It's unexpected, but the more I think about it, I'm not sure a that a better TV pairing is possible.

AFC Richmond Women will have to do so without their star striker Gemma following the potentially serious knee injury she suffered in last week's entry. Who, if anyone, will step up and try to get the team promoted? We'll have to wait for this week's installment to arrive, so read on to find out when it will.

Apple has always stated that new entries will air every Wednesday at 12am PT in North America. However, every one of this season's chapters has debuted at the aforementioned times on the past six Tuesday evenings, so it stands to reason that this week's installment will do the same.

It's HBO Max and — unexpectedly — Peacock that lead the way with this week's biggest new releases, too. I'm not sure what that says about Netflix and Prime Video's latest offerings but, hey, everyone's allowed an off-day (or, in this case, off-week). Anyway, scroll on to see what's worth checking out at home this weekend. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter

Supergirl (HBO Max)

James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe (DCU) suffered its first major hiccup with its most recent big-screen offering.

Indeed, many people — myself included — expected Supergirl to fly high in theaters earlier this year. Despite lead star Milly Alcock's best efforts, though, the DCU Chapter One film crashed and burned at the box office, and there are myriad reasons why. Read my Supergirl review for more on my biggest bugbears.

Still, with the DC comic book movie out now on HBO Max, those of you who didn't catch it at your local cinema can now pass your own verdict on it. Once you're seen it, check out my Supergirl ending explained piece to find out how it lays the foundations for Man of Tomorrow, aka Gunn's Superman sequel that'll arrive next July. — TP

The Paper season 2 (Peacock)

Ready to crack open some more award-winning stories at the Toledo Truth Teller? Well, don't be — we're running seriously short of them in The Paper season 2.

After the team's success at the end of season 1, editor-in-chief Ned is still desperately searching for the stories that'll take his team to the next level.

Esmeralda rarely thinks about anybody's reputation but her own. Meanwhile, Nicole is still giving Kelly Kapoor vibes in a majorly inferior way, and Mare... well, she's just trying her best. More of the same stupidity, in a nutshell. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

Call My Agent! The Movie (Netflix)

Call My Agent! has a feature film on Netflix that reunites the cast of the hugely popular French comedy-drama series.

Here, Camille Cottin reprises her role as Andréa, but things aren't going very well for her. As she attempts to direct her first movie five years after the ASK agency closed, she loses her lead actor just days before production starts. In attempt to salvage her movie, she must get the old team back together, rekindling all the old friendships and rivalries that we know and love. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

Based on the novel Marfil by Mercedes Ron, we follow the rich daughter of a Spanish businessman living in New York who survives a kidnapping attempt. Her father then hires a bodyguard to protect her... and you can connect the dots from there.

Think a slow-burn, sexy, mutual attraction forming over something potentially fatal. There really is nothing like a tragedy to spark a romance, and I lap it up every single time. — JV

Colin From Accounts season 3 (Paramount+)

Patrick Brammall is everywhere this week, as Colin from Accounts season 3 arrives on Paramount+ (NB: it originally launched on Binge in Australia earlier this year).

It's the final outing for the beloved Australian romantic comedy, too, so its arrival is bittersweet. I don't want to say goodbye, but I'm also excited to watch all eight episodes this weekend.

Season 3 picks up after the humiliating aftermath of Gordon’s failed proposal to Ashley (at someone else's wedding, if rejection wasn't awkward enough). How on earth do you bounce back from that? You'll have to watch and find out. — LB

Band of Brothers: Legacy (HBO Max)

How many ways can the Band of Brothers' legacy truly be eked out over time? As it turns out, a documentary about its timeless appeal with exactly that title is one option.

25 years after release, we retrace its steps through the making and lasting cultural impact of the landmark HBO miniseries. This is less of a reunion, and more rare and previously unseen footage and photographs from HBO’s archives. Don't be too disheartened, though, as there are new interviews with original cast members. — JV

Based on Ryan David Jahn's novel The Dispatcher, we follow emergency dispatcher — and secret alcoholic — Ian Ridley (Patrick Brammall), who receives a call about a body found near his home. He thinks it may be his daughter, who went missing 11 years ago.

For those who have already read the book, there are a few big changes for its TV adaptation: most notably, that it's now set Down Under, not in Texas. Even so, a seemingly never-ending web of twists and turns is still set to unfold.

With the first two episodes of Last Seen now streaming, the remaining four episodes will drop on a weekly basis until October 7. And, according to Brammall, we're really not prepared for what's coming.

'Nothing is black and white'

"Ian is not a hero," Brammall exclusively told me about his character in the Apple TV Original. "His focus on paper is an altruistic one, but it's also mixed with hope, guilt, [and] everybody he's failed. There's a lot of collateral damage.

"Conversely, when we first see Sarah (Chloe Jean Lourdes), she's happy. Nothing's black and white. As the series goes on, you can sort of see that Ian and Henry (Brendan Cowell) are two sides of the same coin."

By the time episode 2 ends, which is where we're currently up to, this doesn't exactly feel like the case. Henry feels like an elusive villain, having clearly held onto some deeply disturbing secrets for too long, and for reasons we don't quite yet understand.

"By the end, the agency is taken away from them both and given to Sarah," Brammall continued. "I think that's completely unexpected. The ending is something that you wouldn't necessarily have anticipated, and it's not the sort of ending you'd usually get in a crime drama, either. That's a testament to how multi-layered the show is."

Intriguing. In this day and age, we should probably consider it a luxury when a crime drama is able to surprise us. If Last Seen can really put its money where its mouth over the next few weeks, then we've genuinely got some unmissable TV on our hands.

Apple's hotly anticipated ‘Surprise and Shine’ event has been and gone, leaving a foldable iPhone Duo, the iPhone 18 Pro, AirPods 5, and many more new products in its wake.

The iPhone Duo is, of course, the biggest talking point — it's Apple's first foldable iPhone, and will "redefine what an iPhone can do, while still feeling natural and familiar," according to the Cupertino tech giant.

Elsewhere, Apple refreshed its wearable lineup with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4; the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max got a variable aperture feature; and AirPods 5 are bringing new Audio Intelligence features to the table.

We've picked out the key points of every new product announcement below.

iPhone Duo

It's finally official — Apple's first foldable phone is here. The iPhone Duo (yes, not the iPhone Ultra) is its answer to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, combining a 5.4-inch outer screen with a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display and lots of neat software tricks.

Powered by the "desktop-class" A20 Pro chip, the iPhone Duo has a titanium frame that's apparently been strengthened by ceramic fibers, and it'll be available in two colors: 'star white' and 'night sky' (a dark blue).

Interestingly, the iPhone Duo also lacks a few key iPhone features, including Face ID, but it was undoubtedly the star of Apple's iPhone 18 Pro launch — and we'll be bringing you our hands-on first impressions very soon.

• 5.4-inch cover display, 7.6-inch foldable display
• A20 Pro chipset with C2 modem
• 48MP Fusion main camera, 48MP ultra-wide
• Starts at $1,999 / £1,999 / AU$3,499

iPhone 18 Pro

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are, of course, being billed as the best iPhones yet. They both use Apple's new A20 Pro chip, which boasts a 20% faster CPU and 40% faster GPU, but performance improvements are just the beginning.

For budding cinematographers, the biggest upgrade for both phones is the variable aperture in their 48MP main cameras. You'll be able to widen the lens to let in more light for nightography, or make the aperture smaller for greater depth of field to capture more details in a single shot.

The battery life has been upgraded on both phones, too. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro has the same battery life as the iPhone 17 Pro Max — that’s 36 hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro Max's endurance is up to 45 hours.

The only catch? Both phones will cost you a little more than last year. The base model starts at $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,099 rather than $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,999, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$2,299 rather than $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,149.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max launch on September 18, and you can snag them in Silver, Black, Glacier (a sort of lilac), or Burgundy.

For a breakdown of how the iPhone 18 Pro compares to the iPhone 17 Pro, check out our iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro comparison.

• Variable aperture in 48MP fusion main camera
• iPhone 18 has a 36-hour battery life, the same as iPhone 17 Pro Max
• A20 Pro chipset: 20% faster CPU, 40% faster GPU
• Price starts at $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,099 for 256GB; launches September 18
• Comes in Silver, Black, Glacier, or Burgundy colors

Apple Watch Series 12

The Apple Watch Series 12 brings a few new design tweaks, including a new color — dark bronze — alongside space grey, black, and light gold, all in 100% recycled aluminum. A new Ceramic Shield 2 lens is 60% tougher than the previous generation, while the biggest performance change is in the sensor.

The new Health Sensing System offers better skin contact thanks to an increased electrode surface area. Heart rate readings are now being read up to every five seconds, with heart rate variability (a measure of recovery) being read up to every five minutes. All this enables features like the new Readiness Score (it's about time, as every other wearable has one), an improved Vitals app, and an incoming redesigned Health app on iPhone to match, which allows you to measure your VO2 Max using a guided workout on your iPhone's camera. Health Age behaves like similar features you'll find on a Whoop or Garmin, comparing your fitness to the averages in your age bracket.

However, it's Audio Intelligence that's proving the most interesting (and most controversial) feature, as Siri Recap and Live Rewind listen throughout the day to provide summaries of your day and instantly recall conversations, respectively.

• Aluminum / ceramic body, Ceramic Shield 2 lens
• 24-hour battery life
• Starts at $399 / £369 / AU$649
• S11 chipset
• Redesigned Health Sensing System, Readiness, Audio Intelligence

Apple Watch Ultra 4

Apple's big beast returns with all the upgrades of the Series 12 above: a redesigned Health Sensing System for better heart rate accuracy (the most accurate of any wearable, according to Apple), Readiness Score, improved Vitals app, Health Age, and so on. It also gets all the Audio Intelligence features previously mentioned, which, along with Live Rewind and Siri Recap, offer sound recognition (doorbells, sirens, and so on) and Shazam on-wrist.

Ultra-specific improvements are thin on the ground. The battery now stretches from last year's 42 hours to a full two days. In GPS mode, you get 18 hours, enough for all but the toughest ultramarathons. Very little else has changed, design-wise: there are no new colors or dramatic upsets. The Ultra 4 does, however, get the new Ceramic Shield 2 protection in addition to a super-hard titanium case.

• Titanium body,
• Ceramic Shield 2 lens
• 48-hour battery life
• Starts at $799 / £749 / AU$1,349
• S11 chipset
• Redesigned Health Sensing System, Readiness, Audio Intelligence

AirPods 5

You've got two new AirPods to choose from: the AirPods 5, and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case and Volume Swipe.

Key upgrades for both models include Live Translation, next-generation Adaptive EQ, and 50% more noise reduction over the AirPods 4. Battery life is also up to 22 hours (if you carry the case with you).

And no, there are no cameras here, low-res or otherwise — even in the top-tier set. We didn't expect that particular feature in AirPods 'til 2027, and we were right to stay firm on it — it seems Apple eyes in your ears are still a way off.

As well as the Wireless Charging Case, the pricier AirPods 5 also boast the volume swipe feature of the latest AirPods Pro. They'll cost you $149 / £149 / AU$249 — so less than the original AirPods 4 with ANC, but more than the standard AirPods 5 at $129 / £129 / AU$219.

• 50% better ANC than the previous generation, plus Adaptive Audio
• $129 / £129 / AU$219 for the AirPods 5
• $149 / £149 / AU$249 for the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case
• Personalized Spatial Audio, Live Translation, Adaptive EQ
• Volume swipe functionality, longer battery life (up to 22 hours using the case), plus wireless charging in the step-up model

Thankfully, the referee is about to blow their whistle and restart proceedings, so you'll want to know when you need to retake your seat before things get underway again. And, with this week's entry being another festive season-set installment, you might even start getting into the Christmas spirit a few months early.

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6?

Ted Lasso season 4's next entry should be released at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, September 8 in the US and Canada. Each of its five predecessors have dropped at those times over the last five Tuesdays, so there's no reason to suspect this week's episode won't do the same.

Indeed, there are plenty of great looking new movies and TV shows to catch on the world's best streaming services this weekend, including the official streaming debut of the latest Star Wars movie. No matter if you're after another trip to Lucasfilm's iconic galaxy far, far away, or looking for something that isn't sci-fi, we've got you covered. So, read on to see what's just landed on your favorite streamer. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter

The Mandalorian and Grogu (Disney+)

I'll be honest: I wasn't a fan of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Indeed, I stated as much in my review of The Mandalorian and Grogu ahead of its theatrical debut in late May. But, hey, now that it's out on Disney+, you can decide for yourself whether it's any good or not.

Set some time after The Mandalorian's third season, the Star Wars film sees Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his diminutive protégé enlisted by The New Republic to help the Twins, aka the Huttese heads of Shakari's crime syndicate, rescue the latter's nephew Jotta (voiced by Jeremy Allen White). Of course, things aren't as simple as that and the pair soon find themselves embroiled in a criminal conspiracy. — TP

The Gentlemen season 2 (Netflix)

We've got a double hit of Theo James in the list this week, but The Gentlemen season 2 is far and away my favorite. With the Glass family business back and booming the groundwork is set for a Shakespearean level of drama that's tinged with signature Guy Ritchie-style brutality to unfold. But whatever you think that looks like, times it by 100, and add in a chainsaw.

Through shrewd editing, handwritten effects, sound and narrative structure, new episodes feel playful and unserious despite its often sombre and hard-hitting undertones, with Ritchie's tonal balance across it all being nothing short of impressive.

Clearly, the best way to deal with the bad things in life is to sprinkle in as much absurdity and humor as possible, and Ritchie never lets us forget that. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

Mayday (Apple TV)

The above thumbnail almost makes it look as though Ryan Reynolds has decided to dramatize his Welcome to Wrexham journey, but I can confirm that new Apple TV movie Mayday is anything but.

As the name suggests, there are heavy military tones surrounding this one. In essence, a U.S. Navy pilot (Reynolds) on a top-secret mission during the Cold War gets trapped behind enemy lines, his only chance at survival is to form an alliance with an eccentric ex-KGB agent (Kenneth Branagh).

Honestly, it's just nice to see Branagh in front of the camera for a change, and I don't mean that as a sly diss to his Agatha Christie movies. His natural chemistry with Reynolds is exactly the mood-booster we need this week, and it's safe to say that you'll never look at the Cold War the same way again. — JV

Chad Powers season 2 (Hulu/Disney+)

Chad Powers is back! Glen Powell returns as the titular quarterback in disguise, but he's in a difficult situation when we pick up with him in season 2 of the Hulu series.

In the season 1 finale, coach Ricky (Perry Mattfeld) discovered that Chad is actually disgraced former quarterback Russ Holliday, and his disguise has finally been rumbled. With Ricky threatening to expose Chad aka Russ, his future with the South Georgia Catfish is uncertain.

It's great drama to enter the new season with. In a recent TechRadar interview with the Chad Powers cast, they revealed why their characters are so special to them. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

The Runner (Prime Video)

You Gal Gadon't want to miss this week's new Prime Video movie, The Runner (sorry, I had to). In a nutshell, the actress plays a high-powered attorney who must race through London to save her abducted son while following cryptic commands from a mysterious caller.

Is this an original premise? No. Is it going to be the best action movie you've ever seen? Also no. But sometimes things have to be so bad that they're great, and there's genuinely something really enjoyable about that.

I've had enough of overly polished, slick and serious action dramas... give me something a little rougher around the edges any day of the week (and I guarantee you'll have a smile on your face by the end too). — JV

Scary Movie 6 (Paramount+)

Horror movies are known for having plenty of sequels, and it turns out that their parodies are no exception. Indeed, Scary Movie 6 is the latest installment in the comedy movie series, with the franchise returning after a 13 year break.

As always, the biggest horrors are parodied here such as Weapons, The Substance and Smile, as well as a recurring parody of Wes Craven's Scream series.

Unfortunately, it performed poorly and received a 24% Rotten Tomatoes rating, though the audience's verdict was more favorable at 64%. So you'll have to watch to decide which side of the debate you fall on. — LB

Fuze (HBO Max)

HBO Max's new movie is a great weekend watch for anyone wanting a fast paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In Fuze, a high-stakes London heist uses the chaos of a mass city evacuation as its cover, so we're following two events at once. A heist is taking place whilst the city is spooked by an unexploded World War II bomb, with the criminals hoping that local law enforcement will be too distracted to apprehend them.

The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sam Worthington, but in my Fuze review I noted that it does seem to waste its all-star cast. Still, it's highly entertaining. — LB

Despite being one of the best streaming services, Apple TV is more well known for its original series like Severance, Pluribus and Widow's Bay, but historically it has been lacking when it comes to its movies.

All except for CODA, which won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars in 2022. Following on from CODA's huge success, director Sian Heder returns with Being Heumann.

This new movie follows the life of Disability Rights Activist Judith Heumann, where she fought tirelessly to improve society so disabled people could live more independently, and pushed back against discrimination.

Take a look at the trailer below.

Ruth Madeley stars as Judith Heumann, while Mark Ruffalo plays Joseph Califano, who was the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare for the Jimmy Carter Administration. Califano often stood against the demands of the disability rights movement.

One notable event that will appear in the movie sees Heumann leading the 504 Sit-In, where over 100 disabled people came together for a 28-day sit-in at the San Francisco Federal Building, making it the longest sit-in at a federal building.

A great supporting cast for Being Heumann includes names like Dylan O’Brien, Will Brill, Michael Patrick Thornton, Antwan Tolliver, Rein Barcel, Charlie Rush-Reese, and Rob Delaney.

Being Heumann premieres at TIFF before receiving a limited theatrical release on November 6. After that, it arrives on Apple TV on November 13.

While you wait, check out our round up on the best Apple TV movies to stream right now. There are only 18 so far, but hopefully Being Heumann will join the ranks soon.

So, when will it premiere on Apple's streaming platform? Below, I'll tell you the exact dates and times for the soccer comedy-drama's next chapter, so you can block out some time in your busy schedule to catch it as soon as it arrives. Here, then, is when Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5 will drop in your neck of the woods.

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5?

Episode 5 of Ted Lasso's fourth season will launch at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, September 1 in the US and Canada.

If you frequent these parts, you'll know that new episodes have come out on one of the best streaming services every Tuesday in North and South America. So, it won't be a shock if (or, rather, when) this week's entry does as well.

If you live on another continent, you'll have to wait until Wednesday, September 2 to catch season 4 episode 5. Depending on where you live, here are the exact launch times for the series' forthcoming installment:

• US — Tuesday, September 1 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• Canada — Tuesday, September 1 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• UK — Wednesday, September 2 at 2am BST
• India — Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30am IST
• Singapore — Wednesday, September 2 at 9am SGT
• Australia — Wednesday, September 2 at 11am AEST
• New Zealand — Wednesday, September 2 at 1pm NZST

Ted Lasso season 4 full episode schedule: how many are there?

If it wasn't obvious from this article's introduction, there'll be 10 episodes to enjoy in Ted Lasso season 4. After this week's installment, there'll be five more to laugh, cry, and cheer at before the hugely popular program's latest season ends, too.

Want to know when each subsequent episode will be released? Of course you do, so read the list below for more details:

• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 2 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 3 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5 — September 1/2
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6 — September 8/9
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 7 — September 15/16
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 8 — September 22/23
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9 — September 29/30
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10 — October 6/7

Apple TV, home to Widow's Bay, Severance, Ted Lasso, Silo, Slow Horses, and more, is putting up its subscription prices in the US. Access to the entertainment platform will now set you back $14.99 a month rather than $12.99 a month.

This doesn't come direct from Apple, but rather from Deadline (via The Verge). Apparently, the price rise goes into effect immediately, and subscribers will be told about the bump before their next billing date.

The Apple TV page on the Apple site confirms the price increase. The annual subscription rate is going up too, from $99 to $119, while an individual Apple One subscription now costs $21.95 a month, which is up $2 from $19.95.

This is the fourth Apple TV price hike in four years: as recently as mid-2022, Apple TV cost just $4.99 a month. Prices are reportedly also going up in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico at the same time, but no other regions are affected for now.

More costs for viewers

The last Apple TV price rise in the US was back in August, when the monthly cost was increased from $9.99 to $12.99. Before that it went up $3 in October 2023, and $3 in October 2022, so it's the time of year for Apple TV to get more expensive.

It's also the time of year for new iPhones, with certain iPhone 18 handsets expected to break cover a week on Wednesday, September 9. It will be the first launch event fronted by the new Apple CEO, John Ternus.

Understandably, users aren't too happy about having to pay more for their Apple TV subscription. "Ted Lasso reruns aren't worth it," says one commenter on Reddit, while another says "there isn't enough content on Apple TV to justify this price".

Plenty of users on the same Reddit thread are bemoaning the regular price hikes that we're seeing across most streaming services, and suggesting that subscription hopping or even going back to physical media is the way forward.

Anyway, the Apple TV show's next chapter, titled 'Greyhounds' Day Off', will be available to stream very soon, so you'll want some firm details on its launch date and time. Well, don't delay — read on to see when the hit soccer comedy-drama's next installment will come out!

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4?

Episode 4 of Ted Lasso's fourth season will be released in the US and Canada at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, August 25.

As I've explained in other articles like this one, Apple had publicly indicated that new chapters would drop on one of the best streaming services worldwide every Wednesday. However, this season's first three entries have aired in North and South America on Tuesday evenings, so this week's installment is all but certain to do likewise.

Where the rest of the world is concerned, Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4 will arrive on Wednesday, August 26. Check out the list below to see what time it'll come out where you live:

• US — Tuesday, August 25 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• Canada — Tuesday, August 25 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET

• New Zealand — Wednesday, August 26 at 1pm NZST

Ted Lasso season 4 made its Apple TV debut in early August, and it'll run for 10 weeks, with new episodes dropping weekly until the season 4 finale airs in early October.

For a quick rundown of the all-important release dates you need to know about, read on:

• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 2 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 3 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4 — August 25/26
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5 — September 1/2
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6 — September 8/9
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 7 — September 15/16
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 8 — September 22/23
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9 — September 29/30
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10 — October 6/7

It's no coincidence that this season's third episode, titled 'Richmond's Got Talent', is its strongest entry so far, too. Not only do we get to see some actual soccer in this week's installment, we're also introduced to more new characters whose energy, quirks, and individual circumstances are sure to add humor and melodrama aplenty as season 4 progresses.

Ahead of Ted Lasso season 4's debut in early August, I spoke to three members of this season's primary supporting cast — Faye Marsay (Lizzie), Abbie Hern (Gemma), and Jude Mack (Katy 'Boots' Quinn) — about joining the prestigious Apple TV Original, off-screen team bonding, and the systemic obstacles that continue to impede women's soccer.

TechRadar: In terms of joining this award-winning, legacy-defining show, did you feel any pressure walking onto set for the first time? And how did you find a balance between honoring what came before with that freshness you bring to the show?

Jude Mack: When you're stepping into a universe that has resonated with so many people, there's obviously a pressure there to deliver. But, very early on, I think it was made clear to us that they wanted us to do our own thing, bring our own energy, and explore those different dynamics, so we were given free rein on that, which was a gift.

Faye Marsay: You walk onto most shows with a sense of pressure, so that's not exclusive to this show. But, everyone [the main cast and crew] made it easy for us to join them on this journey, which is the Ted Lasso way.

Gemma Hern: It was intimidating because we were new, but then we were all new, so we weren't alone in experiencing this for the first time. But, as Faye said, everyone was so welcoming and great to us, so we felt at ease from day one.

TR: There are a lot of new faces in this show, so it would have taken time for that so-called team spirit to really click, both on- and off-camera. Did you do any off-screen team bonding boot camps, or any classic soccer rituals to build that chemistry?

FM: Yeah, we started with a boot camp, which was when all of us met for the first time, and then there were various things we did together, like karaoke. We're all newcomers, so we had to look after each other because it was quite an intense shoot, because the hours are long. But, what you end up seeing on the screen is what we're like off-screen. We're a silly bunch, but we have respect for each other, which translates into the show.

TR: As a series, Ted Lasso is as famous for having emotional character journeys as much, if not more so, than the sport itself. Heading into the rest of the season, what can you tease about your individual and collective character arcs?

AH: Gemma is definitely trying to figure out her passion. She's got a couple, and she's trying to figure out how to juggle them and what's most important to her. I actually think it's the perfect time for her to enter the world of Ted Lasso, because she's in a place where she needs guidance, so there's no better place for her to figure that out than at AFC Richmond under Ted's tutelage.

FM: For Lizzie, it's a case of needing to be selfish again, because she's had to be selfless and rightfully put her child first. As we go on, you'll see how the dynamic of her romantic relationship impacts her ability to go to training, and how difficult it's been for her to follow her passion for soccer and making the decision to go 'I'm going to have to now pursue this because otherwise it's going to be too late.'

JM: 'Boots' is on a journey towards community. She's always been a lone ranger, which goalkeepers tend to be, so you'll watch her become more of a team player as this season unfolds.

TR: Women's soccer has grown exponentially across the world in recent years, but still faces huge systemic hurdles. How do you think a show like Ted Lasso, with this classic underdog spirit, can help to amplify real-world conversations and drive the necessary change?

FM: It's the perfect platform. The exposure that this show has, and how many people love it, means you can be hopeful, and hope for change. You put the women's soccer question in that framework with the show's brilliant cast, crew, and creators, and it's going to be very difficult for people not to listen.

JM: Yeah, it does a sort-of 'macro, micro' thing where the underdog is women's sport, and then being underdogs in terms of how this season's story has been set up. So, I suspect it'll drive the conversation quicker than if it was done in other ways.

The first three episodes of Ted Lasso season 4 are out now on Apple TV. New chapters air weekly.

This season's third episode, titled 'Richmond's Got Talent', will build upon its forebear, too, by introducing us to even more newcomers when Ted and company hold open trials for a spot on the Richmond Women's team's roster. So, when will we meet the final few players who'll aim to take Richmond to the top?

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 3?

Ted Lasso's next episode will drop in the US and Canada at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, August 18.

Sure, Apple has publicly stated that new episodes will air every Wednesday worldwide. However, this season's first two installments have actually been released on Tuesday evenings in the Americas, so there's no reason to suspect that next week's entry won't do likewise.

As for the rest of the world, here's when season 4 episode 3 will arrive on one of the best streaming services:

• US — Tuesday, August 18 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• Canada — Tuesday, August 18 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• UK — Wednesday, August 19 at 2am BST
• India — Wednesday, August 19 at 6:30am IST
• Singapore — Wednesday, August 19 at 9am SGT
• Australia — Wednesday, August 19 at 11am AEST
• New Zealand — Wednesday, August 19 at 1pm NZST

How many episodes are in Ted Lasso season 4?

There'll be 10 episodes to enjoy in Ted Lasso 4 — and, as I alluded to above, new chapters will come out every Tuesday in North and South America, and every Wednesday in other territories. That'll be the case until this season's finale launches in early October, too.

But, I digress. Here are the all-important release dates you need to know about:

• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 2 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 3 — August 18/19
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4 — August 25/26
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5 — September 1/2
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6 — September 8/9
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 7 — September 15/16
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 8 — September 22/23
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9 — September 29/30
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10 — October 6/7

Apple TV is one of the best streaming services to sign up for if you’re looking for original and high-production movies and shows — but now the streaming behemoth is switching things up.

As spotted by 9to5Mac, Apple has added a handful of classic movies to its library of Apple TV originals, and they’re all included in your subscription plan with no additional fees. The outlet says it’s available in the US, UK, and Canada, although we have spotted a few films appearing for users in Australia, albeit a much shorter list. We can't yet confirm if other international markets have also received a selection of free movies.

We also don’t know if this is a limited-time offering, but you can find the collection of non-Apple TV movies under the ‘Great Movies Available Now on Apple TV’ carousel. Titles are subject to vary depending on region, but the following movies are available to stream on Apple TV in the US now:

• The Martian
• Arrival
• The Bourne Identity
• Looper
• E.T.
• The Proposal (also in AU)
• I, Robot
• Forgetting Sarah Marshall
• 21 Jump Street
• The Sixth Sense
• Gone Girl
• Zoolander

It’s quite an out-of-pocket move for Apple TV, given that it prides itself on housing only original entertainment, and not titles that it doesn’t produce itself.

Subscribers have always had the option to buy or rent third-party titles through the streaming service — similar to Prime Video — but that’s pretty much it. That said, this isn’t the first time Apple TV+ has experimented with a promotion like this.

The streaming platform pulled a similar stunt back in 2024, when it added 50 licensed movies to its library, but it came with two unfortunate caveats. Firstly, the offer was available to US subscribers only, leaving the rest of the world out of the excitement, and secondly it didn’t last very long, as all 50 movies were removed after just one month.

Whether it’s the same situation this time around is unclear. So far, Apple hasn’t explicitly stated if this is another limited offer so that gives us a little bit of hope, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled for more information just in case.

It’s been a busy time for Apple TV+ right now. The fourth season of one its best shows, Ted Lasso, is finally out, which our Senior Entertainment Reporter Tom Power gave a generous four stars in his review — not to mention the new miniseries Cape Fear has really taken off. However, it’s not the only streamer that’s shaking things up with its movie library.

Just this week, Google added over 10,000 movies and TV shows to Google TV Freeplay, a FAST streaming platform baked into supported smart TVs. Additionally, the company expanded its live TV programming, which now includes over 300 free channels across a multitude of genres.

It’s great to see Apple TV has considered bulking out its library of original movies and shows with third-party titles, but I don’t think platforms like Netflix and Disney+ should worry just yet. As mentioned, this might be another limited offer, but if Apple TV decides to get the ball rolling with introducing non-Apple TV titles to its library, then its rivals should consider sleeping with one eye open.

Out of all the platforms, Apple TV is the most dedicated to its original productions by a landslide, while Netflix churns out shows and cancels them shortly after. If Apple TV continues to add third-party movies, viewers will have the best of both: quality original programming and classic, feel-good movies. That's when its rivals should start to rethink things.

As I mentioned in my Ted Lasso season 4 review, you'll have to wait for episode 3 to meet most of the team. Nonetheless, you'll be introduced to at least one new character in Tanya Reynolds' Alice Chilton, and be reunited with a host of other familiar faces, including Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent and Brendan Hunt's Coach Beard.

In short: there's a lot to look forward to ahead of this week's entry — so, when will it be released?

What is the launch time for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 2?

Titled 'Curioser and curioser!', the second episode of Ted Lasso season 4 should premiere at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Tuesday, August 11 in the US and Canada.

As I noted in my Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 release guide, the show was expected to return at 12am PT / 3am ET on Wednesday, August 5. However, this season's first installment actually dropped at 6pm PT / 9pm ET the evening before (i.e., Tuesday, August 4). As such, we can expect future episodes to drop every Tuesday night in North America at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.

As for other nations, here's when you should be able to catch season 4 episode 2 on Apple TV:

• US — Tuesday, August 11 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• Canada — Tuesday, August 11 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET
• UK — Wednesday, August 12 at 2am BST
• India — Wednesday, August 12 at 6:30am ISY
• Singapore — Wednesday, August 12 at 9am SGT
• Australia — Wednesday, August 12 at 11am AEST
• New Zealand — Wednesday, August 12 at 1pm NZST

When do new episodes of Ted Lasso season 4 come out?

As I mentioned above, based on when last week's episode actually aired, new installments of the Apple TV Original should launch on one of the world's best streaming services every Tuesday in the Americas and every Wednesday in other territories.

If every subsequent episode follows suit, here's when this season's other chapters will be released:

• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 — out now
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 2 — August 11/12
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 3 — August 18/19
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 4 — August 25/26
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 5 — September 1/2
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 6 — September 8/9
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 7 — September 15/16
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 8 — September 22/23
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9 — September 29/30
• Ted Lasso season 4 episode 10 — October 6/7

So, which seven projects have we highlighted for this weekend? For one, fans of cosy comfort TV will be delighted that Ted Lasso is back on Apple TV. Don't worry if you don't care for the sports comedy-drama series, because there's plenty more genre fare to peruse below. So, happy scrolling and streaming! — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter

Ted Lasso season 4 (Apple TV)

It's time to believe in the popular Apple TV Original once more. That's right, Ted Lasso has returned for its fourth season — and, this time, the titular soccer coach is being tasked with managing AFC Richmond's newly-founded women's team. Fans will not only be reunited with established characters in Ted Lasso season 4, then, but also introduced to a whole new line-up of fresh faces.

Want to know how it compares to the hit show's first three seasons? Read my Ted Lasso season 4 review before you make use of that free Apple TV trial you've been holding onto. Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 is out now, by the way — and, with new episodes dropping weekly for the foreseeable future, there's lots more to look forward to in the weeks ahead. — TP

The Last House (Netflix)

Louis Leterrier's creepy new sci-fi thriller follows an ordinary family who become trapped in their home after torrential rain mysteriously seals every window, door, and exit point.

Their optimism begins to dwindle when days turn into months and then, frighteningly, years. I do wish the above trailer hadn't spoiled that reveal, but hey ho.

With limited supplies and an unknown threat looming outside, Riley, Jason, and their two children must fight to stay alive. They soon learn that they aren't the only ones affected, but can the other victims be trusted? You'll have to watch The Last House on Netflix to find out. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi (Disney+)

What if I said that The Ninth Jedi looks like Star Wars meets Studio Ghibli?

More anime than animation, this Visions spin-off follows Kara and her ragtag Jedi crew as they seek out to find worthy Jedi to fight against an increasingly powerful warlord. She's literally Spirited Away's Chihiro armed with a lightsabre, and I'm all for the flavors of nostalgia we're getting on Disney+.

It's been tipped as a new and exciting "animated triumph," and I'm inclined to agree. If nothing else, The Ninth Jedi proves that Stars Wars is literally unstoppable, and can be easily reinvented until the end of time. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

Sterling Point (Prime Video)

Prime Video is back on its young adult drama game, baby. This time it's with Sterling Point, coming straight to us from the minds behind Gossip Girl (and that's how you immediately know that it's going to be worthwhile).

17-year-old Annie Jacobson (was raised in New York City with her twin brother and loving adoptive father, until her life takes a turn when she inherits her mysterious grandfather's island in Canada.

We've got some brilliant escapist TV across its eight episodes, feeling a lot more authentic in its delivery than the mundane repetition we've been seeing in other teen dramas of late (naming no names, of course). If you're going to commit to a book-to-Amazon TV adaptation, make it this one. — JV

Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Paramount+)

Have I still got FOMO over not being invited to interview Billie Eilish and James Cameron during the bonkers London premiere for Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour earlier this year? Yes, I have, but that doesn't mean I won't vouch for the epic concert experience that's out now on Paramount+.

Initially captured in 3D, we follow Eilish's sold-out 2025 arena tour through a blend of stripped-down live performances from Manchester with backstage access. Whatever we're watching, Eilish's connection with her fans remains the central focus.

If you didn't get tickets or had some towards the back of the stadium, now's your chance to be front row. Personally, I'm just glad she left the Charli XCX Guess remix in the setlist. — JV

Alley Cats (Netflix)

Ricky Gervais returns to Netflix with six-part adult animated series, Alley Cats, which follows a group of strays who take in a lost kitten, helping her to navigate the brutal human world and find her way back home.

Gervais voices Gus, and he's joined by some great British talent like Diane Morgan, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, and Tony Way. If you're expecting anything like his previous Netflix series After Life, you may be disappointed as Alley Cats has already received several poor reviews. But, if you like crude adult animation and Gervais' controversial brand of humor, then this could be right up your, ahem, alley. — LB

The Shards (Hulu/Disney+)

Ryan Murphy's back on top form with The Shards, where he collaborates with thriller novelist Bret Easton Ellis to bring the latter's semi-autobiographical story to life on Hulu and Disney+.

The Shards follows a group of privileged teenagers in their final year at an elite prep school, with a fictionalized version of Ellis among them. Their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of Robert Mallory, whose unsettling yet charming presence coincides with the activities of a serial killer known as The Trawler.

The first two episodes are now, but you'll want to read my review of The Shards first to see if it's worth watching. — LB

Ted Lasso is back — and so, too, is Apple TV’s hugely popular sports comedy-drama. Three years after the final whistle was seemingly blown on the hit show, it returns not just as a continuation of where its third season left off, but also as a narrative and character-based evolution by way of a squad rebuild.

Even with its new line-up and the multi-year gap between seasons, though, Ted Lasso season 4 is a triumphant return to winning ways for the fan-favorite series — and I say that as someone who didn't dislike its divisive third season as many others did.

Home is where the heart is

Three years have passed since Ted (Jason Sudeikis) ended his AFC Richmond journey with the men's team and returned to Kansas to spend more time with his son Henry (Grant Feely). When season 4 reunites us with the eponymous soccer coach, we learn he's given up on the game entirely and now works as the assistant manager of a local grocery store.

A surprise visit from old friends — Richmond owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), now serving as chief marketing officer for the club's new women's division — soon has Ted questioning his current lot in life, though.

The reason? They want him to manage Richmond's newly founded women's team, work the same magic that he did with their male counterparts, and establish a similar culture of excellence that'll last well past his tenure in the dugout.

Of course, this being the latest chapter of the beloved Apple TV show, it's not a spoiler to reveal that an at-first reluctant Ted eventually accepts their offer. After all, it would be an incredibly short season if he didn't.

Nevertheless, although this is a significant, life-changing choice for Ted, episode 1 spends far too much time grappling with the proposal laid at his feet — so much so, in fact, that I worried it would derail the series' return before it had really begun.

Indeed, with the bulk of episode 1's runtime spent on exploring Ted's inner struggle before its inevitable resolution, this season's premiere feels like a largely superfluous prologue to the main event of Ted actually becoming a Richmond native once more.

That's not to say this narrative set-up isn't necessary, because it's the biggest decision Ted has faced since he left Richmond in the first place. Showing him wrestle with himself over whether he should take charge of Richmond's women's team, and deal with his loved ones' not-so-subtle nudges to do so, then, is a worthy storytelling exercise.

Nonetheless, an insightful subplot where Higgins learns about the Negro Baseball Leagues and Ted's inner conflict notwithstanding, I couldn't help but feel that season 4 episode 1's story could've been condensed and avoided the extraneous plot filler that drags out his prospective homecoming.

We're not in Kansas anymore

Once season 4 properly gets underway in its second episode, though, it's like the show has never been away, nor missed a beat. Indeed, it effortlessly slips back into the purposeful stride that underpinned its first two electrifying seasons and parts of its third — again, a season I still largely enjoyed.

There's a satisfying air of familiarity as Ted — and, by proxy, the audience — reunites with the pillars of the AFC Richmond community, too. Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins aside, other well-known faces like Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) welcome us and Ted back in typically eccentric fashion, and further emphasize the continuity between the show's past and its latest chapter.

By virtue of Ted managing Richmond Women, season 4 also represents a new era for the acclaimed series. With that comes a whole line-up of fresh faces — the first of which we're introduced to is diligent but emotionally cold soccer coach Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds).

Initially resentful of Ted for pipping her to the top job and Rebecca for not even considering a woman for said position, Alice starts out as a — and this'll sound harsher than intended — dollar store Roy Kent. Or, rather, the season 1 version of Kent, who was an antagonistic figure whose sole purpose was to rail against Ted's cheery demeanor.

Thankfully, it soon becomes clear that Alice isn't a Kent knock-off, but a fascinatingly complex and likeable individual in her own right. She also not only comes around to respecting Ted, but also quickly embeds herself as an integral cog in a new-look, eccentric triumvirate alongside Ted and Coach Beard, as well as a fully-formed foil to this established intrepid duo.

Clearly, Ted's capacity to thaw even the iciest of exteriors has no limits, and I'm eager to see how Richmond Women's primary coaching team collectively evolves throughout season 4 amid myriad issues that'll come their way.

New team, new problems

And fall their way, those problems most certainly do.

Indeed, season 4 metes out its share of obstacles, starting with a goal-scoring crisis after Richmond Women's main strikers are ruled out for the season. Meanwhile, in a far cry from their time in charge of the men's team, Ted and Beard no longer have free rein to walk into the locker room whenever they please — an obvious boundary that becomes a recurring, comedic point of contention for all concerned. Ted also finds himself in plenty of awkward one-on-one chats with his new squad, most notably with zany, slightly unhinged goalkeeper Katy 'Boots' Quinn (Jude Mack), who's easily the highlight of this season's new additions.

'Boots' is far from the only unique personality in the Richmond Women squad.

We don't get to meet the vast majority of this rambunctious rabble until episode 3 but, in its follow-up, they manage to do the impossible: make Ted lose his cool and lay down the law amid dressing room splits. Ultimately, though, they're an instantly lovable collection of characters with distinct quirks and personal problems that'll inform their individual character journeys, and I get the impression that viewers will be just as captivated by this group — and their various trials and tribulations — as they were by the men’s team.

Off-the-field challenges also permeate many of season 4's early subplots, many of which give major supporting characters in Waddingham's Rebecca and Temple's Keeley a stage on which to shine.

From gender inequality and pregnancy and motherhood to systemic underfunding and the media coverage gap, Ted Lasso tackles these heavy real-world issues head-on. That's to be expected, but it's nevertheless pleasing to see the show do so with warmth, empathy, and the occasional slice of its trademark irreverent humor.

On the whole, Ted Lasso season 4’s opening four episodes handle their secondary storylines reasonably well. However, a few subplots lean into comedy at the expense of substance and subsequently feel a little shallow due to their flippant execution.

Take episode 2, where Rebecca grapples with perceptions that she isn't much of a feminist. It's a subplot that highlights Waddingham's comedic timing and dramatic range, but falters somewhat by prioritizing quick laughs over meaningful narrative resolution, thereby coming across as unbalanced.

The other major misfire in episodes 1 to 4 is Goldstein's Kent.

His presence remains vital to the series, but he feels oddly overused in a season that has moved away from Richmond's men's team. Of more concern is how the show worryingly appears to be turning his character into a caricature of his signature gruffness. Pair that with his recycled 'will they, won't they' subplot with Keeley — an eye-rolling dance that's run its course — and Roy's evolution feels increasingly sidelined in favor of easy gags. Hopefully, a finer balance will be struck between the Kent of old and his new persona in chapters to come.

My verdict

Noteworthy flaws in Ted Lasso season 4's early episodes aside, it's great to see this wonderfully silly, optimistic, cosy comfort show back on the air.

There was understandable scepticism when Ted Lasso season 4 was officially announced, with plenty of 'cash-grab' and 'who asked for this?' murmurings in the wake of what felt like a definitive finale.

As heart-soaring returns go, though, Ted Lasso's comeback delivers a match-winning performance in its first half, rich in both laugh-out-loud moments and striking emotional notes. Keep up this kind of form, and few will argue against another trophy-laden season of television.

Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 is out now on Apple TV. New chapters air weekly.

In coaxing Ted Lasso out of the wilderness to save it from the drop, Apple TV has pressed the streaming equivalent of the David Moyes button. Three years after it seemingly wrapped up, the feel-good sports comedy makes its surprise return with a new assignment that is expected to play out across three seasons.

For now, the 10-part season 4 features the return of Jason Sudeikis' titular Lasso and his visor cap to AFC Richmond – only this time, he's been enlisted to revive the fortunes of the Greyhounds' fledgling women's team, which is marooned in the second tier.

The riff on the tried-and-tested format allows core cast members, including Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, to ease the transition to an entirely different squad.

New regulars include Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education) – playing steely assistant coach Alice – Jude Mack (Back In Action), Faye Marsay (Adolescence), Rex Hayes (Bang), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion) and Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane). And this time, Coach Lasso's fast-growing son Henry (Grant Feely) has made the trip across the pond too.

Cady was particularly unhinged in Cape Fear's finale, which saw him killing his own family and taking the Bowdens hostage in one final altercation.

It's an important moment in the series and allows Cady to have a do-over by setting up a mock trial, once again including attorney couple Tom and Anna who were responsible for sending him to prison in the first place.

But what went down, and should we be expecting a Cape Fear season 2? Here's everything you need to know.

Who died in the Cape Fear season finale?

Max Cady kills his half-sister Crystal, his father Robert, and Crystal's apparent son Luke in the season finale. He wanted to eliminate the whole family after what happened to him, as it was revealed that Crystal killed Max's former wife Melissa, the crime that he was wrongfully sentenced for instead.

By killing the family he believes betrayed him, Cady hopes to achieve peace, but instead he ends up with just another tragedy when he finds out who Luke really was. As it happens, when Crystal murdered Melissa, she didn't kill her unborn baby and instead took him to raise as her own child.

So Luke is Cady's biological son, who he murdered in a rage thinking he was actually the son of his half-sister instead. This cruel twist is a shocking one, creating even more pain for Cady.

What happened to Max Cady?

After Cady broke into the Bowden family home, they manage to get free and Anna stabs Cady. She's given the opportunity to kill him, but doesn't, saying that they should "let him die in a cage".

We don’t see Cady after this point, but it’s assumed he’s arrested and sent to back to prison. But Cady's fate could be explored in season 2, if one is greenlit by Apple TV. Right now, though, we assume he's gone.

His presence still lingers, however, because the final scene of Cape Fear shows that the Bowdens are still looking over their shoulder, assuming he's lurking somewhere in the shadows.

Who is Natalie's father?

The family twists don't stop there, as Tom and Anna's daughter Natalie is also going through an identity crisis. Throughout the series it was always assumed that Natalie's father was Anna's ex Paul, and that Tom stepped up as a step-parent after he and Anna got together.

As it happens, Natalie's father could actually be Cady, as he and Anna have a history. Natalie's real father is not revealed to us, but she does receive an envelope at the end of the finale which includes DNA results. We don't get to see these, leaving her true roots a mystery for now.

It is likely we will never know the answer, but Natalie is seen walking over to join the family in the finale's barbecue scene, implying she has made peace with having Tom as a parental figure.

What might happen in Cape Fear season 2?

Even though this story has been wrapped up, there are still loose ends that could well be explored if Cape Fear comes back for season 2. Cady's fate is one of them, of course, especially if he manages to escape once again.

Or, we could take a look at the Bowden family and how they recover from what happened to them. Especially Natalie, and the mystery around who her father is. But right now, nothing has been set in stone and this could be the end of Nick Antosca's take on Cape Fear.

So, will Ted be able to work his magic once more and make AFC Richmond Women a force to be reckoned with? And who among the show's supporting cast is back for Ted Lasso season 4?

I can't answer the former, but you'll want to read our Ted Lasso season 4 guide for more on the latter. Alternatively, you could just read on to find out when the series' next episode will air — so, if that's all you're here for, scroll on!

What time can I watch Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1?

Ted Lasso season 4 episode 1 is expected to make its Apple TV debut on Wednesday, August 5 at 12am PT / 3am ET.

'Expected' is the keyword here, too. You see, in recent times, the first episode of numerous other new and returning Apple TV series has actually come out in the US and Canada on Tuesday evenings. If Ted Lasso 4 follows suit, its first episode could drop on Tuesday, August 4 at 6pm PT / 9PM ET.

However, the Ted Lasso season 4 review embargo is scheduled to lift at 12am PT on August 5. It would be odd for this season's first chapter to air before critics have published their impressions of it. So, unless Apple unexpectedly changes the aforementioned embargo details, I'm going to play it safe and say that this season's opening number will come out on August 5.

If that is the case, here's when season 4 episode 1, titled 'Home', will premiere in other countries:

• US — August 5 at 12am PT / 3am ET
• Canada — August 5 at 12am PT / 3am ET
• UK — August 5 at 8am BST
• India — August 5 at 12:30pm ISY
• Singapore — August 5 at 3pm SGT
• Australia — August 5 at 5pm AEST
• New Zealand — August 5 at 7pm NZST

If — and it's a big if — Ted Lasso season 4 is released in the US and Canada on Tuesday, August 4 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET, all non-North American readers will need to do is shave six hours off the above launch times. So, in the UK, it would arrive on August 5 at 2am BST, in India on August 5 at 6:30am IST, and so on.

Ted Lasso season 4 full release schedule

You'll be pleased to know that there's plenty more Ted Lasso on the way after this week. Indeed, nine new episodes will be released after it, with one new entry expected to debut on one of the world's best streaming services every Wednesday.

Nearly a year after Apple first put iPhone 17 Pro Max units into a live sports broadcast workflow, the cameras are back for 2026 MLS All-Star Week in Charlotte, North Carolina. During the July 28 Skills Challenge and the July 29 MLS All-Star Game, iPhone 17 Pro Max can be mounted behind goals, attached to Magic Arms — articulated mounts commonly used in film and broadcast production — and carried on Ronin gimbals by roaming camera operators. If a penalty kick happens, one could even end up just feet behind the player taking the shot, delivering an even more immersive perspective.

I've been on the ground in Charlotte this week and caught up once again with Royce Dickerson, Executive Producer, Live Sports on Apple TV, to see how the company's approach has evolved over the past year. For Dickerson, the mission is no longer proving the iPhone belongs in a live broadcast — it's figuring out what broadcasters can do with it that they couldn't before.

"We’re always looking for ways to innovate and bring fans closer to the action," Dickerson told me. "How do we continue to be creative with the spaces that we have? Where can we stick iPhones that we haven't thought about before?... We're always striving for... what is that perfect shot? I don't think we've found it yet."

That shift in mindset is perhaps the biggest takeaway one year later. Apple is no longer asking whether the iPhone can work as a broadcast camera — it's asking how many more it can deploy and where they can go next.

'Just like another camera'

A year in, nobody on Dickerson's crew treats the iPhone as a novelty act anymore. He pointed back to that first Friday Night Baseball broadcast, when veteran director John Moore ended up cutting to the iPhone shot more often than he expected once he saw the picture quality for himself. Camera operators reached the same place, Dickerson told me that once they're familiar with the iPhone, "it's just like another camera to them."

That comfort is why Apple is running the setup weekly across both MLS and Friday Night Baseball now, rather than treating it as a special event. "I don't think we'd be doing it week-over-week in MLS right now and in Friday Night Baseball if everybody wasn't 100% comfortable with the camera," he said.

The hardware has diversified slightly, too — alongside the now-recognizable Cosmic Orange units, Apple has mixed in some silver iPhone 17 Pro Max cameras as well.

From four iPhones to 15 — and eventually 30?

Ask Dickerson what he took away from that first Fenway broadcast and applied directly to MLS, and his answer is immediate: they needed more iPhones.

That first game ran four units total — one on the Pesky Foul Pole, one tucked into the Green Monster, one on a Ronin gimbal, and one in the dugout. Seeing how unobtrusively that small footprint could be worked into a stadium convinced him the ceiling was much higher than four.

"We need more of them," he told me. "The small-scale size of that just showed me we can put iPhones anywhere. We need to be able to say, like, let's put 20 — what can we do that's crazy in a stadium that just provides full 360 coverage inside of a venue?"

That thinking has already become reality. For a dedicated MLS match shot almost entirely on iPhone, Apple deployed 15 iPhone 17 Pro Max cameras throughout the stadium — and Dickerson doesn't see that as a ceiling.

"I see a world where we have 20 iPhones. I see a world where we have like 30," he said. "With the confidence that everybody has in them now, the envelope's going to start getting pushed a little bit further out."

The workflow has caught up with that ambition. What used to take a full day of rigging and connectivity checks is now, in Dickerson's words, roughly a tenth of the time it took a year ago — purely a result of doing it week after week and building familiarity with the process.

Crews are still using Beastgrip rigs for mounting, but the iPad-based control setup I saw a year ago is gone: camera input and shading are now integrated directly into the truck's standard broadcast system, no separate tablet required.

Geometry is a key difference between capturing MLB and MLS

The biggest difference between MLB and MLS comes down to something surprisingly simple: geometry.

A pitch is the same size in Charlotte as it is in LA, Miami, or New York, and in many soccer stadiums, the stands run right up to the touchline — meaning a Ronin-mounted iPhone can get shockingly close to the run of play.

Baseball doesn't offer that flexibility. The foul lines are a hard boundary, and once you cross onto the field of play, that's it — no matter which park you're in, and no matter how the dimensions shift from stadium to stadium. Soccer's more consistent footprint, paired with sideline access, is letting Apple push cameras nearer to the action than it could at a ballpark.

That proximity has led to placements you wouldn't get near a diamond: a Ronin at the touchline for tight shots, an iPhone on the team benches (Dickerson mentioned catching LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney's face as he made notes on an iPad during a match), cameras tucked into the goal net, in the tunnel, and mounted on field-level advertising boards. None of it blocks a fan's sightline, and all of it is small enough that it goes unnoticed until a broadcast cuts to it.

Dickerson also pointed to a subtler benefit: players, coaches, and managers react differently to an iPhone than they do to a traditional broadcast camera.

"Usually there's a big broadcast camera being shoved in their face, and they immediately kind of retreat within themselves," he said. "But all of a sudden there's just an iPhone 17 Pro Max on a gimbal... and it kind of eases them."

That reaction is helping Apple capture more intimate, unguarded moments without disrupting play or fans' sightlines.

What to watch for in Charlotte

Tuesday's Skills Challenge leaned heavily on mobility with Ronins at the stadium, two of them on RF for full remote control, plus two more mounted on Magic Arms positioned for organic, up-close angles of balls in flight and players running by.

Wednesday's All-Star Game mixes in two Ronins pushed toward the sidelines, alongside iPhones positioned around the halftime stage for Ciara's performance (produced by a separate crew that Apple's broadcast will ingest as a feed).

Dickerson's dream shot for the All-Star Game: a Ronin-mounted iPhone getting a tight angle from behind a player on a penalty kick — a shot that's essentially impossible with a traditional camera rig.

I'll be keeping an eye out for that moment during the match, because if Apple can pull it off, it may be one of the clearest examples yet of why these tiny cameras are changing what's possible in a live broadcast.

Still searching for the perfect shot

Twenty years into a broadcast career, Dickerson isn't interested in declaring victory. He pointed to a shot from the first official MLB game shot on iPhone when Ceddanne Rafaela had a walk-off captured from a phone on the Pesky Pole, as one of the closest things to a perfect shot his team has captured — but he's clear it's not the finish line.

The goal, as he put it, is finding angles nobody's thought to try yet, in stadiums that all start to look the same until you walk them looking for a spot nobody's used before.

With Apple already talking about a "year-and-a-half" of testing and implementation behind it heading into the next MLS season and Friday Night Baseball campaign, Dickerson is promising more of what got Apple here in the first place: more iPhones, more unconventional angles, and continued insistence that the phone in your pocket can shoot alongside — and sometimes replace — a six-figure broadcast camera.

Apple TV in the United States is the broadcast home to MLS, and you get to watch for free as it’s included with one of the best streaming services. The MLS All-Star Game will kick off at 8 PM ET tonight, July 29, 2026, with a pre-show starting before it, and it’ll be easy to know when they call for a shot from the iPhone thanks to a ‘Shot on iPhone’ bug visible on the screen.

You won't want to stick any of the following new movies or TV shows on for them, though. None of them are family friendly, so I'd advise you to load up something else on one of the world's best streaming services instead.

However, once they're tucked up in bed, I implore you to throw on one or more of these seven great-looking films and TV series. That said, maybe don't start this week's number one choice before you head off for a good night's rest yourself, because it is terrifying in the best way possible. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter

Obsession (Peacock)

I'm not joking when I say Obsession, the breakout movie hit of 2026 so far that's finally landed on Peacock, is frighteningly fun. I spent weeks thinking about this supernatural horror after seeing it, and I'll readily admit that I felt uncomfortable for the first few nights post-watch, too.

For those who don't know: Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a lovesick loser who has a crushe on one of his besties Nikki (Inde Navarrette). When Bear stumbles upon an item called the One Wish Willow, he buys one and uses it to make Nikki fall in love with him. It's a spur-of-the-moment action that ends up having horrifying and deadly consequences, and will have you constantly repeating Nikki's "No, no, no, no, don't do thaaaaat!" line in your head as the plot progresses.

Before you stream it, check out our review of Obsession to see why everyone's, well, become obsessed with a film that, on a reported budget of just $750,000, has made $400m globally, broken horror film box office records, and turned Navarrette into a serial awards contender. And hey, if Peacock isn't available in your region yet, see where you can rent or but the Curry Barker-directed phenomenon instead. — TP

Heartstopper Forever (Netflix)

Guys... the end we've been dreading is here. Nick and Charlie's wholesome relationship has been an IP central to Netflix original content, but now it all ends with Heartstopper Forever.

If you're bummed out because we're not getting a full fourth season, don't be. As Nick, Charlie, and the gang all brace before going their separate ways to university, a feature film actually reflects their growing maturity and crises of confidence much more fittingly.

Heartstopper Forever really is forever... at least, it is in my house, where I'll be replaying it so much that Netflix might issue a warning. Its spirit and generation-defining impact will live on, and that might be the most special achievement the streamer has ever been responsible for. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

Ride or Die (Prime Video)

Whoever thought to cast Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham together in an Amazon action comedy show needs a raise immediately. Ride or Die gives us the entertainment duo that we didn't know that we needed and plenty of laughs along the way.

The pair play best friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, who thought they knew everything about each other. But, when Judith (Waddingham) turns out to be an international assassin when a mysterious figure emerges, their worlds are turned upside down.

Tackling everything from menopause to, well, the complexities of life, this Prime Video Original is an incredible amount of fun. And, surely that's the most important thing in life, right? — JV

Lucky (Apple TV)

Is there anything Anya Taylor-Joy can't do? Ever since she made her debut in Robert Eggers' The Witch, I've been impressed by just how varied each of her roles are.

In Apple TV's Lucky, she plays a con artist forced to go on the run after a heist goes wrong. Across seven episodes, we follow Luciana 'Lucky' Armstrong as she tries to evade the FBI and a ruthless crime boss, hoping that she'll live up to her nickname and make it out alive. It seems that breaking the law runs in her family, too, as Timothy Olyphant stars as her father who's in prison when the story begins.

The first two episodes are out now, and something tells me this will be another Apple Original for me to get hooked on. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

The Hawk (Netflix)

If you ask me, Will Ferrell and golf feels like a natural TV marriage. The Hawk on Netflix is proving me right, with Ferrell playing Lonnie Hawkins, a top golfer in 2004. Two decades on and he's trying to recapture his magic late in his career. However, he refuses to believe he's anything other than one stroke away from golf's greatest comeback.

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (Disney+)

The Descendants franchise continues over on Disney+ with Wicked Wonderland, which marks the fifth installment in the series (even I didn't think that there had been so many).

Picking up shortly after Descendants: The Rise of Red, Red and Chloe return from their time-travelling adventures to find that the Queen of Hearts is trapped. The once notorious villain now has a nice streak, but that gives way to a new evil: Maddox Hatter.

Personally, I still can't believe that a UK 2010s popstar is playing one of the most iconic fictional queens of all time. If you're British, it has to be seen for that reason alone. — JV

Murder 101 (Prime Video)

Prime Video's new three-part docuseries is a fascinating one. Murder 101 is about a high school sociology class based in rural Tennessee who help revive a decades-old case into a shocking present-day hunt for a killer.

It's the sort of thing you'd expect to find in a work of fiction, Netflix's How to Get Away with Murder springs to mind, but this is 100% real. You can also check out the podcast of the same name if you'd like to dive in deeper.

Ultimately, this program showcases the power of a local community as we follow a group of students turned amateur sleuths. I'm already locked in. — LB

Streaming has become one of the main reasons people reach for a VPN, and providers have noticed.

The latest example is VPN Super, which has just rolled out beta apps for Apple TV and Android TV, extending the service from phones and laptops onto the screen we watch the most.

The move follows a clear industry trend. Over the past couple of years, many of the best VPN services have shipped native apps for tvOS and Android TV, chasing viewers who want to unblock content, cut down on buffering, and keep their traffic private without wrestling with router settings.

What VPN Super is bringing to the big screen

The headline feature is straightforward: native apps that let you open the software on your TV, pick a server, and get back to watching.

According to VPN Super, the Apple TV app offers streaming-optimized servers built for smoother 4K playback, more than 50 server locations, and coverage for up to 10 devices on a single Premium subscription.

The company also promotes a no-activity-logs policy and an ad-free interface, along with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The apps are aimed at Premium subscribers, and the Apple TV version runs on tvOS 17 or newer.

There is a sports hook, too. VPN Super points to easier access to international soccer tournaments and major tennis events.

That's a pitch that other providers have leaned into, too, with X-VPN recently launching dedicated servers for the FIFA World Cup.

Why a VPN on your TV matters right now

The privacy argument is arguably the more compelling half of the launch. Modern smart TVs are far from passive screens.

Many use a technology called Automatic Content Recognition, or ACR, which samples what appears on your display and reports it back to manufacturers or their partners. Some sets do this hundreds of times per second, and the practice has been alarming enough that the FBI has urged consumers to weigh the privacy tradeoffs of smart TVs.

A smart TV VPN does not switch ACR off by itself, and you should still dig into your TV's privacy settings to disable it. What a VPN does add is an encrypted layer over the traffic leaving the device, which makes your activity harder to read on the network.

How to set up VPN Super on your TV

Getting started is designed to take only a few minutes: download the app, sign in with your Premium account, choose the location you want, and connect.

Both Apple and Android apps are currently in beta, with sign-up links available through VPN Super's site and its announcement.

Can I watch The Citizen Vigilante online in Germany, Canada, Australia and worldwide?

In Germany, the film has effectively been blocked from commercial release after Germany's FSK ratings board declined to classify it, meaning it cannot be released in cinemas or on mainstream streaming platforms there.

In Canada, Citizen Vigilante is available to rent or buy digitally through Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video (from CA$6.99).

In Australia, there are currently no confirmed streaming, rental or purchase options on major Australian platforms, and no release date has been announced.

Worldwide availability varies but it has yet to receive a digital release. For a limited time, the filmmakers released the entire movie free on X (formerly Twitter) but that ended at 10am ET / 3pm BST on Saturday, June 27.

If you're an American or Canadian traveling abroad, you can always use a VPN to unblock Citizen Vigilante streams and watch it as you would at home.

The Citizen Vigilante FAQs

Is Citizen Vigilante really banned in Germany?
Yes — effectively. Germany’s FSK ratings board reportedly refused to give the film an age classification, which prevents a normal cinema or mainstream platform release there.

Why was it blocked?
The controversy centres on the film’s depiction of crime and vigilante violence. Director Uwe Boll says it is censorship; critics argue it risks inciting violence.

What is the film actually about?
Armie Hammer plays Sanders, a businessman who takes justice into his own hands, becomes a social media sensation and is pursued by Interpol chief Henry, played by Costas Mandylor.

Why is Elon Musk involved?
After the German ban controversy, the film was made available free on X for a limited 48-hour window, with Musk publicly supporting the move.

Was it originally called The Dark Knight?
Yes. Boll’s thriller was first announced under that title, before being changed to Citizen Vigilante after Warner Bros. objected.

Australian shoppers looking for after EOFY offers, or waiting for early Amazon Prime Day tech deals, now have another price shift to factor in. Apple has raised local prices across several major product categories, including the new MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, iPad range, Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini and more.

The timing is awkward, but it also hasn't come from nowhere. Apple has usually been better than most tech companies at absorbing supply chain pressure before it reaches shoppers, though the current RAM and component crunch has been dragging on for long enough to change that calculation.

The warning signs came last month, when Tim Cook flagged "significantly higher memory costs" on an earnings call, then said RAM prices would "drive an increasing impact" on Apple products from this month.

Australian buyers will feel this

One of the clearest examples is the new MacBook Neo, Apple's lower-cost MacBook model and the machine most likely to appeal to students, or anyone trying to get a new Apple laptop for less than MacBook Air money. In Australia it launched with a price from AU$899. It now starts at AU$1,049, so it has lost some of its entry-level appeal.

Sure, it’s still Apple's cheapest laptop, but the higher starting price makes it less competitive against Windows laptops that have been fighting to compete with the Neo. The 512GB model with Touch ID has also gone from AU$1,099 to AU$1,249.

The MacBook Air has lost some of its competitive edge, and the 13-inch model with the M5 chip (check out our MacBook Air 13-inch M5 review) has jumped from AU$1,799 to AU$2,099 to start.

The 15-inch model is up by the same AU$300 amount, from AU$2,199 to AU$2,499. For a laptop that often sits in the middle of Apple's consumer Mac range, that is a significant hit to its value proposition.

The MacBook Pro increases are especially notable in some configurations. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 now starts at AU$3,199, up from AU$2,699, and the higher-end M5 Max models have also moved up by several hundred dollars. Buyers looking at extra memory or storage were already dealing with expensive upgrades, so the higher base prices only make that decision harder.

The Mac mini is another notable hit. It has gone from AU$999 to AU$1,299, which is a 30% increase on a machine that has often been one of the easier Apple desktops to justify on price.

The iPad range is up, which matters for students, families and anyone who was looking at a new tablet for work, study, travel or general use. The 11-inch iPad Air now starts at AU$1,249, up from AU$999, while the standard iPad, iPad mini and iPad Pro models have also increased.

The rises are not limited to Macs and iPads. HomePod mini has gone from AU$149 to AU$199, HomePod is up from AU$479 to AU$549, and Apple TV 4K has jumped from AU$219 to AU$299. Vision Pro was already a niche product at AU$5,999, and the new AU$6,299 starting price certainly does not broaden its appeal.

Apple's iPhone lineup, Apple Watch and AirPods appear to have avoided this round of increases at least. That helps limit the pain for some buyers, but it doesn’t change the issue for anyone who was waiting to buy a Mac, iPad or other Apple device.

Aussie price changes

Of course, Apple is not the only company dealing with higher memory and storage costs, but the scale of these changes is still pretty notable. Price rises across one or two products are easy enough to explain. Price rises across most of Apple’s range are not something that’s easily avoided.

An Apple spokesperson said: “The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac. We know this is not welcome news, and we are working tirelessly to find solutions.”

The main question is whether the Australian prices come back down if the RAM shortage eases, or whether these higher starting points become normal. We are hopeful, but Apple hasn’t promised a reversal.

For now, local retailers may be worth checking more closely, especially if older stock or short-term deal pricing remains available during EOFY and early Prime Day sales periods.

Other Apple deals

These products haven't gone up in price, but they're still great deals. Note, the prices were last checked on July 1, 2026.
