It's certainly fast enough for most surfing and simple office work that netbooks are usually used for. Speaking of which the keyboard is both responsive and surprisingly comfortable to use, and should you need to use the touchpad, that works well too.

Asus has built a strong reputation for itself with the phenomenal battery life on offer from it's Eee PC series, and while the T91 doesn't quite hit the ridiculous heights of the 901 backed up by a 12-cell battery, the machine still manages to impress with three hours and twenty minutes of continued use – playing back 720p video no less.

There is a fly in the ointment though - unlike previous models, this battery isn't removable. So carrying around that spare battery pack on long journeys just isn't an option. It's about the only criticism we can really level at this machine though.

Conclusion

Overall, we're impressed with what Asus has done here. Since the introduction of the original Eee PC, manufacturers (Asus included) have desperately tried to tweak netbooks to set themselves apart from the crowd.

Larger screens, better hard drives, different operating systems, you name it - it's been tried.

The problem is, all these tweaks are too subtle to really register. The Asus Eee PC T91 on the other hand genuinely moves things forward. As long Asus can keep pricing to realistic levels, it deserves to have another winner on its hands.

The Asus Eee PC T91 is set to go on sale in June 2009.
