This set is absolutely stuffed to the gills with features, as you'd expect from a TV in this price range.

Starting with the connections, you get four HDMI v1.4 inputs – two on the side, two on the back – which is just about enough for today's home entertainment needs, plus component, composite, D-Sub 15-pin PC, RF and Scart inputs. These are joined by an optical digital audio output, Ethernet jack, a USB port for multimedia playback and a CI slot for pay-TV channels.

Although the KDL-46NX713 is ready for 3D, you have to fork out an extra £50 for the TMR-BR100 transmitter and another £99 for a single pair of TDG-BR100B glasses, so be sure to tot up how much it'll cost for the whole family before buying.

Built-in Wi-Fi is a blessing if you don't fancy running an Ethernet cable through the living room to your router, and brings with it access to Bravia Internet Video. This, in our eyes, boasts the best line-up of content of any brand's IPTV portal.

You get no fewer than 21 video services, including biggies such as BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Sky News, YouTube, LoveFilm, Sony Entertainment Television, Eurosport and Dailymotion, alongside more specialist sites like Billabong. Sony's Qriocity service also brings pay-per-view movies into your living room.

There's also a selection of music sites, including Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity, Berliner Philharmoniker and Moshcam, or if you'd rather play your own collection you can stream MP3s over a network, which works well, using clear, logical folder-based menus to display our content. You can also stream JPEG, AVCHD and MPEG2 videos.

Media can also be played locally from USB devices connected to the side-mounted port. It tackled our MP3, JPEG and AVI files with no qualms.

In terms of processing power, the set is driven by the Bravia Engine 3, which addresses contrast, detail and colour reproduction, while the MotionFlow 100Hz PRO aims to eliminate motion blur with fast-moving objects by doubling the refresh rate and using 'backlight blinking'.
