Best Vodafone mobile plans in Australia (March 2024)

Black Friday deals

We’ve long considered Vodafone to be the best value for money mobile provider out of the major telcos, but it's no longer outright cheaper than Telstra and Optus. On January 12, 2024, Vodafone quietly increased the prices across its phone plans, though only new customers have been affected.

Despite all of its new plans now being AU$4 more expensive, Vodafone is still good value if you want to be with a major provider, or you simply need a new phone you can pay off over time. One drawback to consider with Vodafone, however, is the fact that it has less coverage compared to Telstra and Optus, which may be a problem if you live in more regional to rural areas.

If you’re considering signing up with Vodafone, we’ve compared the best Vodafone mobile plans on this page and have highlighted the plans that are worth checking out. Click the links below to skip ahead to our plan recommendations, or see plans from Telstra and Optus:

Vodafone Small plan50GB dataAU$49p/m

<a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">Vodafone Small plan | 50GB data | AU$49p/m

Don’t want to commit to a phone contract? We think Vodafone’s Small plan is your best SIM-only option. This plan recently increased in price – it was previously AU$45 a month for 40GB, but you’ll now need to pay AU$49 a month for 50GB of data. For your money, you get unlimited calls and text to standard numbers in Australia and 5G access. Vodafone customers also only need to pay an extra AU$5 a day when travelling overseas to get data roaming (available in over 100 countries).

Total minimum cost is AU$49

Best overall iPhone + plan combo: our pick

iPhone 15 (128GB)50GB data24 monthsAU$111.45p/m

<a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=27&pi=12312&ct=0&ph=1116&ai=42&ppt=Instalments&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">iPhone 15 (128GB) | 50GB data | 24 months | AU$111.45p/m

It’s the tiniest bit cheaper to get the iPhone 15 on a plan from <a href="https://optus.sjv.io/c/338476/1378182/16505?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&sharedId=hawk&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.optus.com.au%2Fmobile%2Fphones%2Fapple%2Fiphone-15" data-link-merchant="optus.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">Optus (we’re talking two cents less) but ultimately we recommend picking up this device from Vodafone. That’s because Vodafone comes with more data for basically the same price, so pair the iPhone 15 with Vodafone’s <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="optus.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">AU$49 Small plan to set yourself up with 50GB of data a month. On a 24-month contract, that’ll see you pay AU$111.45 each billing. The iPhone 15 released in September 2023 and we’re yet to see it discounted at Vodafone, and we don’t expect to see one for another few months at least.

Total cost over 24 months is AU$2,674.80

Samsung Galaxy S24 (256GB)50GB data24 monthsAU$107.29p/m

<a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=27&pi=12312&ct=0&ph=1140&ai=42&ppt=Instalments&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">Samsung Galaxy S24 (256GB) | 50GB data | 24 months | AU$107.29p/m

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is out now and available to buy, and we think Vodafone offers the best value plan for most people. We recommend pairing the new S24 with Vodafone’s <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">AU$49 Small plan, giving you 50GB of data a month which is plenty for most people. All up your phone bill will be AU$107.29 a month on a 24-month contract. It’s worth noting that <a href="https://optus.sjv.io/c/338476/1378182/16505?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&sharedId=hawk&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.optus.com.au%2Fmobile%2Fphones%2Fsamsung%2Fgalaxy-s24" data-link-merchant="optus.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">Optus’ plan costs exactly the same, but you only get 30GB of data with that one.

iPhone 12 (128GB)50GB data24 monthsAU$93.95p/m

Our previous pick for the best cheap iPhone plan came on the iPhone 11, but Vodafone is no longer stocking it on its online store. It could still be available at your local Vodafone, but if you’re looking for an alternative, we suggest going with the iPhone 12. Pair it with the <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">AU$49 Small plan and you’ll be paying AU$93.95 a month, which isn’t exactly a price we’d consider cheap, but iPhones do tend to come at a premium – even the older ones. It might be worthwhile <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=27&pi=12312&ct=0&ph=1116&ai=42&ppt=Instalments&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">upgrading to the iPhone 15 regardless, as it’s AU$111.45 a month.

Samsung Galaxy A34 (128GB)50GB data24 monthsAU$73.95p/m

Many of today’s phones aren’t cheap by any means, but the Samsung Galaxy A34 might be a good option as the handset itself costs AU$599, making it one of Samsung’s more budget-friendly devices. Vodafone’s <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">AU$49 Small plan is your cheapest option when it comes to plans, and it comes with a very healthy 50GB of data a month. Choosing the best premium device from Apple comes down to size preference – you’ll either want the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro or the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. We think the 15 Pro will suit most people, and you can match it with <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">Vodafone’s AU$49 Small plan for AU$119.79 a month on a 24-month contract. Vodafone gets our tick of approval because it has the best Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra plan available. The 256GB model is the ‘entry-level’ option, so we recommend picking it up on Vodafone’s <a href="https://techradar.whistleout.com.au/Transact?pai=3&si=251&gi=2205&pi=12311&ct=0&byo=true&ai=42&subtag=hawk-custom-tracking&r=hawk-article-url" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"" data-link-merchant="whistleout.com.au"">AU$49 Small plan. That’ll set you up with 50GB of data and keeps your phone bill at AU$140.62 a month, which is about as reasonable as you can get with a phone that costs AU$2,199 on its own.

Total cost over 24 months is AU$3,374.88
