Tonight's UFC 330 headline bout is sure to be cracker as Islam Makhachev defends his welterweight crown for the first time, against Ian Machado Garry. Pound-for-pound king Makhachev is one win from a 17th straight UFC victory, a record, but Irishman Garry is desperate to live up to his nickname The Future.

Makhachev hasn't lost since a first-round knockout by Adriano Martins in October 2015 and in that 16-fight winning run the Dagestan 34-year-old has established himself as one of the most fearsome opponents in the UFC. Makhachev became the 11th two-weight champion in UFC history last time out with a fifth-round stoppage of Jack Della Maddalena in which his grappling ability was again to the fore.

Machado Garry has rebuilt impressively after losing a grapple-heavy bout to Shavkat Rakhmonov in December 2024, scoring back-to-back victories against Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad. The 28-year-old was competitive in that sole defeat on his resume, and has rightly talked up his excellent striking in the build-up, but facing Makhachev's grappling is another question entirely. He'll start as a wide underdog, but that's just how the Irishman likes it.

That's the main event of a stacked card in which Mackenzie Dern defends her women's straightweight crown against Gillian Robertson.

Dear oh dear... things aren't going well for Dutton Ranch season 2, are they?

After that explosive Ed Harris interview, we know that filming for new episodes isn't supposed to start until February 2027, but the writers room appears to be fully underway as of August 2026.

Thanks to a new report from the Daily Mail, a slew of new dramatic allegations are supposedly threatening the "mess of a show" behind the scenes, with an insider claiming "there is high drama on that one, so much tension.

"I believe it's the actors that are a huge part of the problem," they add. "Too many people think they are in control over there and that's causing a lot of issues."

Alongside Harris feeling "p*ssed off" with his lack of screen time, Annette Bening's "star power" has also allegedly caused friction behind-the-scenes.

But none of this is what I'm most interested in. Since before Dutton Ranch even premiered, I've been publicly campaigning for Taylor Sheridan to shift his role from executive producer to showrunner (much like what we saw with Yellowstone).

While there's been a confirmed positive step in a similar direction, the newly announced showrunner, Benjamin Cavell, opens up an entirely new can of worms.

According to this same report, Sheridan is set to have a "bigger presence" in the Dutton Ranch season 2 writers room, which is music to my ears. In order for Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip's (Cole Hauser) new start in Texas to be the best it can be, it needs the biggest amount of Sheridan input possible, so this can only be a good thing.

However, the announcement of Benjamin Cavell as the season 2 showrunner might be a cause for concern. Whereas previous showrunner Chad Feehan had Western experience after leading Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Cavell comes from a more military TV background.

With Homeland, SEAL Team, and Justified all under his belt, I wonder if Cavell would be better suited to the Lioness and Tulsa King branch of Sheridan's work. There's no question that he has an exceptional handle on action, and thanks to the miniseries The Stand, we also know that he understands the Paramount+ audience.

But with the Yellowstone world comes such a specific feel and almost a decade of lore attached, and introducing a total newbie at this stage in the game could be a make-or-break moment for Dutton Ranch's future.

As someone who fell head over heels for the spinoff, I'm willing things to work. But even while we have no idea how much truth there really is to these alleged reports, the fact that they exist at all doesn't fill me with confidence.

Spoilers for Lioness season 3 episode 2 ahead.

Two things can be true at once, and I believe both that Lioness is the weakest TV show in Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ roster, and that season 3 is its strongest outing yet.

Perhaps it's subjective, but Sheridan seems to thrive much more boldly and openly when he's working with cowboys, a land dispute, and the Wild West. But regardless of what I've been watching, I've been continuously in awe of just how well Sheridan writes his female characters.

From Stacy (Michelle Pfeiffer) in The Madison and Beth (Kelly Reilly) in Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch to Joe (Zoe Saldaña) in Lioness, Sheridan's women are armed with shrewd, fulfilling dialogue, substantial storylines and well-reasoned next steps.

Until now, that is. For the first time ever, I've been left disappointed by Sheridan's treatment of his female characters — though this time, it's women who identify as LGBTQ+.

After Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) is called away to retrieve a potential hostage in Ukraine, she finally reunites with new love interest Josephina (Genesis Rodriguez) in Lioness season 3 episode 2.

But it's a reunion that left me with a sour taste and a simple question on my lips: why are LGBTQ+ women never allowed to enjoy a single moment of pleasure?

Lioness season 3 episode 2 highlights a fictional pleasure problem with TV's LGBTQ+ women

Cruz arrives home to Josephina wearing nothing but a bow wrapped around her midriff. So far, so hot. The pair soon enjoy a bath together, but just as things take a more passionate turn, Cruz's phone rings, calling her back to work with the FBI after undercover Russian operatives raid Joe's house.

The pair are visibly frustrated by the interruption, and have clearly not shared any quality time for some time prior to season 3 beginning. To the untrained eye, you can chalk all of this up to the ebbs and flows of unpredictable military life — but I think the way that this scene is presented stems from a much bigger problem.

There's no doubting that this is a problem for real military soldiers, but I'd bet any money that an emergency work call wouldn't have happened so quickly (the Lionesses are an extra special team, after all). Instead, Sheridan is apparently choosing the time-honored TV tradition of purposefully ensuring that an LGBTQ+ relationship is disrupted.

This doesn't happen quite so often with men, as most Russell T Davies dramas will tell you, but LGBTQ+ women are a much more frequent casualty. Typically, the separation is more overt, killing off one partner in the blink of an eye (much like in The 100 or Last Tango in Halifax).

Here, we're presented with an unusual grey spot. Our two lovebirds can be together ideologically, yet are being denied the pleasure of romance itself by being kept at arm's length. There's something really cruel about this, and I can't help but wonder if Sheridan was aware of his unconscious bias while writing.

If Cruz and Josephina's relationship unravels over the course of Lioness season 3, I won't be surprised. With Joe's life so fatally on the line, the well-being of everyone else is always going to come in second place, and what's a more vulnerable place than flying under the radar?

Things have already taken a near-fatal turn in Lioness season 3, which is something I didn't expect to happen so soon. Indeed, last week, we saw two unnamed Russian agents posing as police officers turn up at Joe's door and demand to enter her home, only for them to be killed in the process.

The entire team is called out to investigate, but when a group of "watchers" are spotted on a nearby roof, the Lionesses wonder if it's a trap... if they're here, they're not looking elsewhere.

For now, the answer hangs in the balance. So, when does season 3 episode 3 arrive on Paramount+?

Louis Leterrier's creepy new sci-fi thriller follows an ordinary family who become trapped in their home after torrential rain mysteriously seals every window, door, and exit point.

Their optimism begins to dwindle when days turn into months and then, frighteningly, years. I do wish the above trailer hadn't spoiled that reveal, but hey ho.

With limited supplies and an unknown threat looming outside, Riley, Jason, and their two children must fight to stay alive. They soon learn that they aren't the only ones affected, but can the other victims be trusted? You'll have to watch The Last House on Netflix to find out. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi (Disney+)

What if I said that The Ninth Jedi looks like Star Wars meets Studio Ghibli?

More anime than animation, this Visions spin-off follows Kara and her ragtag Jedi crew as they seek out to find worthy Jedi to fight against an increasingly powerful warlord. She's literally Spirited Away's Chihiro armed with a lightsabre, and I'm all for the flavors of nostalgia we're getting on Disney+.

It's been tipped as a new and exciting "animated triumph," and I'm inclined to agree. If nothing else, The Ninth Jedi proves that Stars Wars is literally unstoppable, and can be easily reinvented until the end of time. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

17-year-old Annie Jacobson (was raised in New York City with her twin brother and loving adoptive father, until her life takes a turn when she inherits her mysterious grandfather's island in Canada.

We've got some brilliant escapist TV across its eight episodes, feeling a lot more authentic in its delivery than the mundane repetition we've been seeing in other teen dramas of late (naming no names, of course). If you're going to commit to a book-to-Amazon TV adaptation, make it this one. — JV

Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Paramount+)

Have I still got FOMO over not being invited to interview Billie Eilish and James Cameron during the bonkers London premiere for Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour earlier this year? Yes, I have, but that doesn't mean I won't vouch for the epic concert experience that's out now on Paramount+.

Initially captured in 3D, we follow Eilish's sold-out 2025 arena tour through a blend of stripped-down live performances from Manchester with backstage access. Whatever we're watching, Eilish's connection with her fans remains the central focus.

If you didn't get tickets or had some towards the back of the stadium, now's your chance to be front row. Personally, I'm just glad she left the Charli XCX Guess remix in the setlist. — JV

Alley Cats (Netflix)

Ricky Gervais returns to Netflix with six-part adult animated series, Alley Cats, which follows a group of strays who take in a lost kitten, helping her to navigate the brutal human world and find her way back home.

Gervais voices Gus, and he's joined by some great British talent like Diane Morgan, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, and Tony Way. If you're expecting anything like his previous Netflix series After Life, you may be disappointed as Alley Cats has already received several poor reviews. But, if you like crude adult animation and Gervais' controversial brand of humor, then this could be right up your, ahem, alley. — LB

The Shards (Hulu/Disney+)

Ryan Murphy's back on top form with The Shards, where he collaborates with thriller novelist Bret Easton Ellis to bring the latter's semi-autobiographical story to life on Hulu and Disney+.

The Shards follows a group of privileged teenagers in their final year at an elite prep school, with a fictionalized version of Ellis among them. Their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of Robert Mallory, whose unsettling yet charming presence coincides with the activities of a serial killer known as The Trawler.

The first two episodes are now, but you'll want to read my review of The Shards first to see if it's worth watching. — LB

Lioness season 3 is only one episode down, but it's already off to a very chaotic start.

We now know that its eight episodes will comprise two simultaneous timelines: one, Joe being kidnapped by unknown Russian operatives and, two, the six months leading up to her capture.

The Lionesses were tasked with extracting a target out of a Ukrainian war space when foreign operatives "offered" him up to the CIA. However, it's now looking like this was a trap for something much bigger.

Will we find out what's actually going on this week? Probably not. Even so, when does Lioness season 3 episode 2 arrive on Paramount+?

As I overheard a fan saying at this year's Italian Global Series television festival in Rimini, Star Trek was one of the first TV franchises that you had to own physically in order to see the entire thing.

With so many different iterations of the overarching IP — from the classic 1960s series to Star Trek: Voyager, and more recent additions such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — it's not surprising that this has been the case for almost 60 years.

But the rise and dominance of streaming services is leading to an increasing reliance on digital services. After all, why spend more of your hard-earned money on discs when so much of Star Trek is available to stream on Paramount+ at the click of a button?

However, with season 1 of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy still not having a confirmed release date for Blu-ray, 4K and DVD formats, we're reminded of the reason why physical media is still important.

There's often no guarantee that a show or movie will always be available on a streaming service or in a digital format, meaning the only way to guarantee access to content you want to watch time and time again is buying a physical copy.

But if the studios behind shows such as Starfleet Academy don't confirm physical-media release dates, what then? Should Star Trek fans be worried that the opportunity to invest will be taken away from them?

According to Jeri Ryan, who played former Borg drone Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Picard, it's unlikely that this will be the case — even if the 'tech bros' are intent on taking over mainstream studios.

'There's a sheer number of collectors who want to have the physical thing'

"I haven't actually heard about this, but I can't imagine that physical media will go away entirely, because there are too many collectors," Ryan replies when she's asked about Star Trek's physical media presence potentially disappearing.

"These studios are primarily IP companies. More so than ever now that all of the studios have basically been taken over by tech bros as opposed to creatives. It's about dollars, and numbers, and if there's money to be made. I think there probably always will be just by the sheer number of collectors who want to have physical things in their possession.

"I can't imagine that it would get entirely done away with. Maybe I'm wrong... I hope I'm not."

This isn't the first time that Ryan has been outspoken about the entertainment industry's relationship with technology. In April 2026, she testified in support of California Senate Bill 1050, which would "target false advertising by requiring clear and conspicuous consumer disclosures whenever a synthetic digital performer is used in state advertisements."

Ryan's certainly right in thinking that many factors, from over-reliance on streaming services to the increased use of AI, could affect the future of the Star Trek franchise in ways we haven't even imagined yet.

But for physical collections, I've got a feeling that Ryan's optimism when it comes to demand means these releases won't be going anywhere. But if Paramount could hurry up and announce a disc release date for Starfleet Academy to put our minds at ease, that would be great.

"It is easier, but it's not easy," Story Kitchen co-founder Dmitri Johnson interjects.

I'm midway through an in-depth conversation with Johnson and business partner Mike Goldberg about their pioneering entertainment company when the former clarifies something he alluded to earlier.

The topic in question? Pitching movies and TV shows based on video game properties to other studio figureheads is still challenging. That's in spite of myriad recent examples of popular game franchises being turned into other screen-based art forms that have achieved critical and commercial success.

"We're working every day to continue changing the stigma that games are only for kids and lazy people who still live in their mom's basement," Johnson adds with a wry smile. "These are artists and storytellers in their own right — and their work deserves to be seen by more people."

You probably haven't heard of Story Kitchen, but you definitely know the video game adaptations they've helped to shape.

From Paramount Pictures' money-spinning Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise and Netflix's animated Tomb Raider show, to Prime Video's forthcoming TV re-imaginings of the aforementioned Lara Croft-fronted game series and Dontnod's beloved first Life is Strange title, Story Kitchen is at the forefront of what's unsurprisingly being labeled the 'golden age' of video game adaptations.

It's a cinematic epoch some believed would never happen — and with good reason. The 1990s and early 2000s are littered with examples of maligned video game movies, including — but by no means limited to — 1993's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, 2005's Doom, and 2003's House of the Dead, the latter of which is one the worst-rated films on popular review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

With so many entertainment giants failing to understand the source material, the 'videogame adaptation curse' — a phrase Goldberg says "sounds really good when stories are written about it" — became a catch-all term for these and similarly crucified productions. Combine that with the notion that, as Goldberg notes, "Hollywood didn't respect the gaming community, developers, or publishers", and it seemed that video games would forever be viewed as the runt of the visual media landscape.

That was until dj2 Entertainment, the precursor to Story Kitchen co-founded by Johnson and Dan Jevons in 2011, took a leap into the unknown.

The company's primary goal was simple: make Hollywood believe that video game stories were worth telling and investing in. Predictably, Hollywood just didn't see the appeal of turning games into movies or TV shows, and countless rejections followed.

Then came the first Sonic the Hedgehog film. After slowly and methodically earning the trust and respect of SEGA, Johnson convinced the Japanese videogame titan and, later, Paramount Pictures that people wanted to see the Blue Blur star in his own movie.

A few notable setbacks, including the titular character's speedy redesign after fans attacked his initial look following the release of Sonic's first trailer, followed. Fast-forward to early 2020, though, and, despite the pandemic bringing Sonic the Hedgehog's theatrical run to a premature end, the action-adventure comedy grossed $320 million worldwide. On a reported budget of $90 million, it more than recouped its production and marketing costs.

"Dmitri always believed that, with education and respect, a different result [video game adaptations being successful] would occur," Goldberg says. "And, he was right."

'It's a new era — but not every game should be adapted'

A lot has happened in the short time since Sonic's big-screen debut, one that Goldberg describes as "an absolute game changer in the Hollywood ecosystem".

He's not wrong. Film adaptations of other iconic and/or hugely popular game series, including Mario and Minecraft, have earned billions at the global box office. Meanwhile, TV retellings of hit franchises like The Last of Us on HBO Max, and small-screen projects that expand on existing game universes, including Fallout on Prime Video and Netflix's League of Legends animated program Arcane, have drawn universal acclaim, won multiple awards, and introduced millions more people to stories, characters, and worlds they would never have connected with otherwise.

Suffice it to say, the explosion of video game adaptations is indicative of an industry-wide paradigm shift that also allowed dj2 Entertainment to level up its own game. Indeed, by investing the metaphorical skill points into the company's evolution from dj2 Entertainment to Story Kitchen, onboarding industry talents like Elena Sandoval, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dallas Dickinson, and signing first-look deals with Amazon in February 2022 and DreamWorks Animation in May 2024, Johnson, Goldberg, and company are well-placed to help create the next wave of gaming transmedia hits.

At the time of publication, around 30 projects, some of which have already found homes and others that'll be shopped around Hollywood, are in the works at Story Kitchen HQ. That might sound a lot, but it's a mere raindrop in the ever-expanding gaming ocean. So, why doesn't Story Kitchen just take a long list of game titles to film studios, TV networks, and the world's best streaming services, and reel them off until one piques their interest?

"It's a new era, but not every game should be adapted," Golberg replies, "And not every game should be adapted right now. We want to be a friend and advocate for the space, though, because we don't see this as a fleeting moment [for video game adaptations]. We think it's got long-term potential, so we're working to ensure that we see that through."

That's not to say Story Kitchen is only focused on adapting the biggest game franchises. AA and indie titles are as much a part of the pitching process, if not more so, than their flashier, big-budget counterparts.

"We don't go into things like 'how many copies did this game sell?'," Johnson says. "We actually despise that question and refuse to answer it at this point. We respond with 'here's why these characters and stories are incredible' and 'here's why it's something we've never seen before'.

"What it really boils down to is passion," he continues. "What are the things that we can't stop thinking about and have to pursue? Once that process starts, we're convinced something has to be made, and that translates into our meetings with other companies. Initially, it might not necessarily make sense to them, but they all want to hear the pitch because it's coming from a place of passion, so most networks and studios are excited when we take something out to them. This isn't a cash-grab — these conversations are happening because we actually care."

Prime-d for more success?

And care, Johnson and Goldberg certainly do. The multi-billion-dollar-spinning Sonic franchise, which currently comprises three movies and a Knuckles TV spin-off on Paramount+, has improved with each new entry.

As of July 2026, a fourth flick is deep in post-production ahead of its March 19, 2027 release date. An untitled Shadow-fronted off-shoot project is also reportedly in the works, though Johnson and Goldberg declined to speak about it because, as Goldberg rightfully points out, "there are levels of NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) we must respect."

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 isn't the only thing that'll roll off the Story Kitchen production line next year. Indeed, two TV projects are expected to make their Prime Video debuts in 2027, the first of which should be a Tomb Raider TV adaptation that Johnson admits has been "years in the making".

Overseen by Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it'll star Sophie Turner as gaming icon Lara Croft. Amazon revealed a perfect first-look shot at Turner in Croft's classic tank top and shorts combo as principal photography got underway in January and, while filming was halted in March due to a "minor injury" sustained by Turner, there's nothing to suggest it'll delay the live-action series' launch.

Thanks to a partnership Story Kitchen established with Tomb Raider custodians and videogame developer Crystal Dynamics during development on Netflix's Tomb Raider animated show, Johnson says "we had a very clear blueprint of how to move together as partners". So, when Amazon, which already had an agreement with Crystal Dynamics to publish future Tomb Raider games, proposed making a live-action TV show, it seemed like a lightning-in-a-bottle moment for all involved.

"Every decision [on the show] is made with Crystal Dynamics' sign-off," Johnson reveals. "So, season one has their blessing and they're very hands-on, but they also respect Phoebe, who's a super-fan, and her perspective of what a live-action Tomb Raider project should be.

"We've actually just started seeing rough cuts, and we were grinning like 10 year olds the entire time. It's going to be good. By the way, we're not the type of people who hype up their own s**t. It's going to be something that your mom can come across and not know that it's based on a 30-year-old videogame franchise. We don't want it to be a niche adaptation just for core fans, who we absolutely honor and will make feel seen. But, if we do our job right, which we're tirelessly trying to do, newcomers will fall love this show just as much as we have."

Life is Strange is a whole other beast. The 2015 episodic adventure game, which tells the story of a high schooler named Max who discovers she can rewind time, is famous for its branching dialog option-based narrative. Ultimately, though, the choices players make during any given playthrough lead to just one of two endings.

In collaboration with its production partners Amazon, Life is Strange franchise publisher Square Enix, and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment, then, how is Story Kitchen tackling an evolving tale built on player choice? Furthermore, how did they decide which ending to not only use, but one that, regardless of what happens in Life is Strange: Reunion, aka Deck Nine's 2024 sequel to the first Max-led game, some viewers might interpret as being its true canonical ending?

"We went into Life is Strange knowing that almost all of the major decisions were almost a 50-50 split," Johnson muses. "So, at the start of development, you have to accept that you're not going to make everyone happy. That said, the way we're approaching some of those critical decisions from the games, I think everyone is are going to feel seen, and they're going to be happy and probably emotional [with how things play out]."

It's full steam ahead for Amazon MGM Studios film adaptations of two award-winning and popular Hazelight games in It Takes Two and Split Fiction, too.

Where the latter is concerned, things are still in the early stages of development. However, prolific actor Sydney Sweeney, Wicked duology director Jon M. Chi, and Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are, as confirmed by Goldberg, all involved.

"You play these games with your significant other, friend, or a family member, and everyone has their own experience," Goldberg says. It's been such a fun challenge of interpreting that and turning it into a singular shared experience [for viewers].

"Reese and Wernick even insisted on playing the game, and that's how we want our village to be built. You're not required to be a game, but we loved that they wanted to play and experience it together before they committed to this adaptation, and that's going to influence their own script."

As for It Takes Two's film reimagining, it's been over four years since Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks production team boarded the Amazon-led project. Speaking to Eurogamer last March, Hazelight creative director Josef Fares, who's known for not mincing his words, took aim at how long it was taking for the film to move forward.

"Hollywood, there's so much b******t," Fares responded when asked for an update. "I think 90 percent of the meetings are actually b******t, and 10 percent are what actually happens. There's a lot of talk, but not a lot of walk. I don't know what's going on. Hopefully something. It would be cool to get something out of it, but my hopes are not so high."

"They are," Johnson says when I ask him if Fares, Hazelight, and Johnson's company are still involved, before he adds: "We're so close to the Hazelight boys at this point that there's a shorthand with them, and the relationship with them and partners on our side... it's all very fluid."

Days of future past

That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the 30+ film and TV projects that Story Kitchen plans on delivering.

Johnson and Goldberg want to cover as many genre bases and demographics as possible, too. Film adaptations of three Roblox games — Grow a Garden, Steal a Brainrot, and Jailbreak — are in the works, as are Just Cause, Shinobi, and Ruiner productions with Universal.

Elsewhere, Netflix has signed on to bring Sifu and Kingmakers adaptations to its user base, Lionsgate is hard at work on a Streets of Rage movie, and film reimaginings of hit indie games Disco Elysium and Dredge have also been announced. Additionally, a House of the Dead movie led by The Last of Us and Superman star Isabela Merced — "she's our homie," Johnson beams —is just another of Story Kitchen's other planned projects.

It isn't just video games that are being turned into movies, either. Toys 'R Us, a popular toy retailer in the '80s and '90s that's recently enjoyed a resurgence in the US, is getting the live-action film treatment. Meanwhile, Teddy Ruxpin, an animatronic storytelling bear that was a US bestseller in the '80s, will star in a feature that's been described as 'Sonic the Hedgehog meets Elf'.

"I think it's going to go the same way as Barbie," self-confessed Teddy Ruxpin fan Johnson says in reference to the 2023 megahit starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. "I went into that thinking 'ugh, cash grab' and then had a little tear in the eye by the third act.

"It [the Teddy Ruxpin movie] is funnier than it has any right to be," Johnson continues. "We have ridiculous musical numbers when we shouldn't, and it's so brilliantly bananas that it works. I think it's going to catch people off-guard, and kids are gonna walk out of it wanting a Teddy Ruxpin."

But, back to the games — and, perhaps most importantly, Story Kitchen's mission to create films and TV shows not only based on beloved titles from the past and those that are currently popular, but also those yet to be released.

"We're about to pitch a show based on a game that hasn't even been announced," Goldberg teases as an example of the latter. "And, should nothing change, it'll finally be announced at the 2026 Game Awards. But we're already going to take a fully fleshed, packaged, and scripted drama TV pitch on it to studios next month, so we can move as swiftly as possible once the game is officially revealed."

Whatever that soon-to-be-announced game is, its developer will surely hope it performs as well as 2025 surprise hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 did.

The first-ever title from French studio Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur unexpectedly dominated the gaming sphere last year. With over eight million copies sold (as of April 2026) and numerous award wins under its belt, it's little wonder that this critically and commercially successful title is being turned into a live-action film. As Johnson is keen to point out, though, the Clair Obscur bandwagon isn't one that Story Kitchen jumped on post-launch.

"As a company, we pride ourselves on not chasing heat," he explains. "We're less likely to pursue a game once it's become an established hit, because we don't ever want to be seen as those people.

"We were actually working with Sandfall as early as 2023," he continues. "We read almost 600 pages of scripts, had raw music files [to listen to], [and] art to look at, so we fell in love with it before we saw any real gameplay. Obviously, you don't know how a game is going to perform, so we went into this knowing that it could be a tough sell. Without the massive success it had, it would've been an uphill battle [to pitch our movie adaptation to studios]. But, as I said earlier, once the passion kicks in, we don't take 'no' for an answer. We were convinced three years ago that this was something to be excited about, and... that's all we can say about it right now."

If there's one thing I took from my chat with Johnson and Goldberg, it's this: they genuinely care about what they're doing. Like, a lot. They don't phone in their work, nor did they lazily trot out stock responses to my questions. They are completely committed to telling the world that games are not only great, but that their stories are also worth translating and telling in other mediums.

There's so much more that Story Kitchen wants to accomplish, though. Even with the abundance of productions already on their plate, Johnson and Goldberg have ambitions on adapting even more franchises for the big and small screen. Their dream projects? Mega Man and — surprisingly — Bad Dudes for Johnson, and Nintendo's iconic sci-fi franchise Metroid for Goldberg.

But such wish fulfillment must wait for another day. As we approach the tail-end of what was supposed to be an hour-long interview, Goldberg reveals that he and Johnson are being summoned by Amazon for a meeting — the contents of which he can't disclose.

It's a sign of just how busy the pair have become, but they wouldn't have it any other way. After all, Story Kitchen is no ordinary passion project — it's reshaping the multimedia landscape as we know it.

"We were recently looking back on our list of games to consider for last year's BAFTA Game Awards," Johnson says, "And there's one from a tiny Australian team called The Drifter that, after I came across it in 2025, I couldn't stop gushing about. Anyway, we ended up tracking them down and, in the very first meeting we had with another studio, we were able to find a home for this indie game in the form of a big theatrical movie.

"That wouldn't have been possible five, six years ago, and that's why we're enjoying this moment now. Step one was getting rid of this silly notion that games are cursed. Now, step two, and we say this with a straight face, you'll see Oscars, Emmys, and BAFTAs being won by movies and TV shows that are based on games. That's our next mission: proving that videogames are art. The stories being told, the characters they contain... they're no different to a New York Times best-selling book — and we're ready to show the world why."

It's time to bid farewell to July 2026 — and, if you won't be heading out to catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day this weekend, you're going to need something to watch at home instead.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Peacock)

Yahoo! Almost fourh months after it initially landed in theaters, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has finally made its official streaming debut on Peacock.

Mario's latest animated adventure is way more polarizing than its predecessor, yet it still managed to pull in $1 billion at the worldwide box office. For that reason alone, it's probably worth giving it a whirl — but, seeing as you'll need something to entertain the kids for 90 minutes or so, it's definitely worth putting on.

But, I digress. For those who might not know: this time around, Mario and his allies traverse the cosmos as they attempt to stop Bowser and Bowser Jr from enacting a new masterplan that would see them kidnap Princess Rosalina and drain her cosmic powers to build a super weapon. Expect plenty of Nintendo Easter eggs and references in this multiverse-esque sequel that certainly acts as a jumping off point for a shared Nintendo cinematic universe. — TP

The Drama (HBO Max)

The first of three films that Zendaya and Robert Pattinson appear in this year, A24's dark rom-com drama called, well, The Drama has made its debut on HBO Max.

Starring the aforementioned A-listers, it tells the tale of soon-to-be-newlyweds Emma and Charlie, whose forthcoming wedding is derailed when a particularly dark secret comes to light. The twist in question? Honestly, it's best if you go into the movie knowing as little as humanly possible, because it's such a blind-siding narrative device that it's too good to spoil here. Get it watched ASAP, because I imagine it's all you and your work colleagues will be talking about come Monday. — TP

The Bombing of Pan Am 103 (Netflix)

There are some national tragedies that are so horrifically terrible, history is forever changed. In Scotland and the US, this was the Bombing of Pan Am 103, which is now a Netflix docuseries of the same name.

In a nutshell: on 21 December 1988, flight Pan Am 103 was en route from Heathrow to JFK when a bomb exploded in its hold over Lockerbie, killing all 270 people, including 43 British citizens and 190 Americans, on board, and spawning an international investigation involving local law enforcement and the FBI.

The community of Lockerbie has definitely never been the same since, with the attack leading to the Aviation Security Improvement Act of 1990. Be prepared for a difficult yet emotionally poignant watch. — JV

Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 (Prime Video)

Batman is back — well, in Amazon's animated TV show, that is. That's right, season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader has made its Prime Video debut, so fans of the Dark Knight have some new content to consume while the wait for The Batman Part II goes on.

This season, the eponymous vigilante and friends are forced to navigate an increasingly combustible turf war and the arrival of new iterations of the Caped Crusader's packed rogues gallery. Eager to see the Big Bad Bat go up against Joker, Scarecrow, Riddler, and more for the umpteenth time? Caped Crusader season 2 should be your first streaming port of call this weekend. — TP

Furious (Hulu/Disney+)

Female police chasing female serial killers? It's almost as if the glory days of Killing Eve are back. This time, the dynamic comes courtesy of Furious, which has already been described by critics as one of the best shows of 2026, which is seriously high praise.

I've got a hunch that this is mostly down to its leads in Shameless' Emmy Rossum, and Lola Petticrew, who was absolutely astonishing in Trespasses and Say Nothing. What's even better is that it's set in the 1980s and allegedly has a vert satisfying payoff. Ticks all of the great crime drama boxes, if you ask me. — JV

Lioness season 3 (Paramount+)

We've been without a new Taylor Sheridan show for the first time in 2026 this month, but never fear... Lioness season 3 is here. And, by here, I mean on Paramount+.

Joe continues to walk the line between duty and home as "unseen forces" circle her world. Frankly, I think this means that we should do a fan sweepstake on just how many minutes of each episode she's going to be shouting for. My guess is 42 out of 48 minutes.

What's even more impressive is how Lioness season 3 has managed to retain Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman in their supporting roles. That's the brilliance of a Taylor Sheridan series, I guess. — JV

As far as Taylor Sheridan shows are concerned, nothing is topping Landman. We all know that the Yellowstone creator is most at home in the Western genre, and we seem to want that from him just as much as he yearns to give it.

But Lioness season 3 is an outlier, and with new episodes dropping from August 2, I can't help but feel it remains that way. Closer in tone to the likes of Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, viewers are thrown into the governmental deep end, following an off-the-books special operative group of the titular name, which is led by hot-headed Joe (Zoe Saldaña).

In season 3, Joe's working life has gone from bad to worse. By the end of season 2, she looked to jack her perilous and secretive lifestyle in for the sake of her husband Neal (Dave Annable) and their two daughters, but a leopard can't change its spots.

Credit where credit is due: without giving anything away, the stakes have been raised fatally high as season 3 takes off. The emotion feels a lot more genuine, and now that there are finally no new team members to contend with, we've got the space and breadth to fully invest in everyone present.

But as always, the bombardment of military jargon and circumstances that a civilian will never understand — and will hopefully never have to — feels incredibly alienating.

I'm also often taken out of the moment when Cody, a character played by Sheridan, is featured in episodes. Does this entire IP exist purely to indulge his fantasies of playing soldier? The answer frequently feels like yes.

Lioness season 3 raises the dramatic stakes — and takes aim at AI along the way

But let's get back to the action. Unlike seasons 1-2, which involved different Middle Eastern conflicts at their centre, Lioness season 3 pushes the focus to the brooding tension between Russian operatives and domestic US forces.

Interestingly, Sheridan wastes no time at all addressing real-life crises, including Gaza-Israel and Ukraine-Russia. It's the latter that gets the most expansion, with war on Ukrainian land forming the backbone of the storyline that will send Joe to the brink... and beyond.

It also allows for us to fully consider how AI and technology are shaping how fights are fought on the ground. Within minutes, Errol (Martin Donovan) is seen telling Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman) that AI is an undoubtedly bigger threat to us all than the potential end of democracy — and that's just the start of Sheridan's blatant takedown.

Much like we've seen across endless social media clips and news reports, the introduction of drones into a warzone also becomes a point of contention. None of this is an angle to modern warfare that I'd even considered, and I'm both impressed and pleased that Sheridan has created the space for that conversation. The Lionesses are raging, and so should we be.

Even amidst the backdrop of change, our team is as strong as ever, and I continue to be bowled over that the busiest working woman on Earth, Nicole Kidman, has made time for such a heavy screen presence. Personally, I think that speaks volumes about the level of craft Sheridan is operating at, and what Kidman thinks of him in turn.

The action itself is fast-paced and unflinching in who or what it takes prisoner. Deaths happen from the get-go, and Joe quickly finds herself reckoning with two different realities. Things feel elevated from what we've seen in the past, which could often become monotonous and inconsequential.

Sheridan really is his own hero, and I applaud that

You know how watching enough episodes of Grey's Anatomy starts to make you feel like you could be a doctor just through absorbing so many medical terms? Lioness season 3 somehow has the opposite effect.

I don't think there's been one season of the show yet where I've been able to confidently and succinctly explain the overarching narrative of the show. I've never once watched one of the many CIA boardroom scenes and properly been able to follow along with the plan, strategy, or off-the-books mission.

Partly, I wonder if this is down to my levels of practical intelligence, in the same way you sometimes panic during test conditions. But mostly, I think this is a script issue. The dialogue is (rightly) peppered with so much military terminology, but there's rarely a let-up in it. How is the average person supposed to relate to this, unless they've played a lot of Call of Duty?

But my favorite part of Lioness — which is either a positive or negative, depending on how you look at it — is how the show seems to exist simply to fulfil Sheridan's own desires. Once again, episode 1 contains a hefty dose of Delta Force operator Cody, but this time, he's the indisputable hero.

Again, no spoilers here, but Cody essentially leads a mission that is successful almost solely thanks to his own conspiring, and I think of the little boy who must have played with Action Man figures and wanted a slice of combat for himself.

Sheridan has won just as much as we all have with season 3 (except for the many onscreen casualties), in spite of its flaws. The man is allergic to making outright terrible TV, and for that, we should always be thankful.

I've been bereft without a new Taylor Sheridan show to watch over the last month, but Lioness season 3 is finally on hand to save the day.

Frankly, all hell could be about to break loose if the trailer is anything to go by. As the official synopsis explains, "Joe walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange.

"Guided by Kaitlyn and Westfield, Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life."

That could literally mean anything seeing as Joe doesn't know the meaning of an easy day at work. Regardless, when does Lioness season 3 episode 1 land on Paramount+?

Spoilers for The Crow Girl seasons 1 and 2 ahead.

It's no secret that we're beyond spoiled for choice when it comes to crime dramas, and that's just considering what's available to us on mainstream streaming services. But getting one that truly shakes us to the core is a lot rarer.

So when I stumbled across The Crow Girl season 1 on Paramount+, my mind was melted to mush by the time I got to the finale. In short, DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) and eminent psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly) join forces to hunt the killer of young men, but there's a lot more going on than meets the eye.

By the end of season 1, it was revealed that Victoria Burkeman, a prime suspect in the case, was actually Craven herself. She killed her father after he killed their daughter — meaning Victoria was sexually assaulted by her dad while her mum knew and did nothing to stop it.

It's heavy stuff, but I cannot stress enough how unexpectedly the reveal was, and how cleverly the clues were woven through the storyline.

18 months later and I'm pleased to say that The Crow Girl season 2, now on the streamer and Channel 5, doesn't disappoint... and that means a whole new level of shocking reveals.

The Crow Girl season 2 ending leaves Kilburn for dead, but Craven — now her lover — isn't responsible

It's important to remember that when we find out that Craven is actually Victoria, Kilburn is none the wiser. With the two women drawn to each other, a romantic connection sparks... secretly, seeing as Kilburn is technically cheating on her husband in the process.

Drama! Things get even worse in the finale, when the entire police station, which includes Kilburn's boss, finds out that she's been accidentally sleeping with the prime suspect in their murder case (the case itself hasn't changed since season 1).

Here's where the story gets more complicated. While we've known that Craven and Victoria are one, Craven apparently doesn't know herself. Kilburn explains that she's got DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), meaning that Victoria is likely responsible for every murder they've investigated so far, including her own dad.

At this point, Kilburn is forced out of the station and threatened with questioning the next morning, but Craven is back at the manor she used to be abused in, unwilling for the party being thrown there to do any further damage to young girls.

Craven entices Kilburn there, and by the time she arrives, all of the guests are dead with the girls safely hidden. But as Victoria takes over Craven's mind, a surviving abuser shows up and shoots at the pair, hitting Kilburn in the leg. Don't panic though... after some further antagonizing, Craven pops one in his head. But will Kilburn pull through?

I genuinely don't see how The Crow Girl season 2 could be any more unhinged. If we're lucky, season 3 will be renewed, with the original book series telling us that Craven will learn how to "blend" her identities.

Sign me up, once I've got my head around what's just happened.

Huzzah, another weekend is upon us — and, amid the lack of new movies landing in theaters today (July 24), you might be inclined to stay at home and check one of the following seven must-see films and TV shows instead.

There are a couple of new releases we couldn't squeeze into this week's streaming round-up — sorry, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 and The Dink. Nevertheless, I'm sure you'll find something to your liking from those we've listed below. Our titular heroic lead, on-off girlfriend Denise, and friends Kripke and Bert are brought back together when Stuart triggers a multiverse armageddon by accidentally breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard.

Time may have changed how they look, but their goofy and fun-loving personalities definitely haven't... and the animation captures exactly what has been missing from Netflix's live-action adaptation. — JV

In this new Netflix movie, Kevin Hart stars as a 40-year-old who ends up at a three-day bachelor party with strangers, resulting in yet another silly Hart-led venture that's perfect if you need of a laugh this weekend.

How did he end up there, you might ask? Well, he was mistakenly added to a group chat and went along for the ride, traveling from New York to Miami to join in the celebrations. Any excuse to party by the beach, I suppose.

Ransom Canyon season 2 (Netflix)

I don't need all of my television to be profound, life-changing, or even that meaningful. Sometimes, I just want to switch my brain off and pretend I live in a picturesque, rural town like Ransom Canyon on the other side of the world where everyone has unrelenting drama except me.

In season 2, the land feud between the Double K and Fuller ranches has become more ferocious, local bar owner Quinn has left for New York despite her on-off relationship with rancher Staten, and mysterious newcomer Yancy has revealed to new love interest Ellie that he has a secret wife.

Season 1 was already a strong outing, but now that the show knows itself a little more, season 2 is easily on par with the strongest seasons of Virgin River, the streamer's most iconic "cozy drama" IP. — JV

Masters of the Universe (Prime Video)

One of numerous mid-2026 film releases that have bombed at the box office, Amazon has hoisted the proverbial white flag on its live-action Masters of the Universe movie's theatrical run. In short: that means you can now watch it on Prime Video.

Based on the Mattel-owned media franchise of the same name, the action fantasy flick tells the tale of Adam, the crown prince of Eternia and owner of an mystical weapon called the Power Sword that, when wielded, turns him into the superhuman known as He-Man. Together with his allies, the previously exiled Adam must realize his potential and overthrow the nefarious Skeletor, who seized control of Adam's home city of Eternos — and its throne — 15 years earlier.

Since Dutton Ranch season 2 was renewed a week before the season 1 finale, I assumed it would be a good few months — perhaps even until the end of 2026 — before we'd hear any solid updates from Paramount+ or its cast. But thanks to Variety's explosive interview with star Ed Harris, who plays vet Everett on the Yellowstone spinoff, I was wrong.

“Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters,” Harris said. “And that wasn’t really the case."

He continued: “I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential,’ and they kind of went, ‘Oh'. I’m being told my character will have a little bit more to do [in Season 2]. I was just a little frustrated, to tell you the truth.”

According to Variety, Harris explained that when he actually watched Dutton Ranch, he thought it was “pretty good,” and felt his character was “relatively important to the story.” However, during filming, “it didn’t feel that way.”

These potentially controversial comments are the ones making headlines, but for me — a self-proclaimed hardcore fan of the show — they aren't the most interesting takeaway from Harris' interview.

Not only are there heavy hints about when we're likely to see new episodes released, but the certainty of Harris' belief in season 2 indicates that a new showrunner has been found.

Dutton Ranch season 2 episodes will likely arrive in late 2027 as Harris confirms February 2027 filming schedule

Do a little bit of social media digging and you will find that there's more to the interview with Harris than the clip Variety has chosen to run with. Journalist Marc Malkin has posted the full footage to his Instagram, where Harris confirms that Dutton Ranch season 2 is due to begin filming in 2027.

I'll be honest with you: this is a lot later than I was expecting. However, it does confirm that we'll be seeing episodes in late 2027 (or slightly later, depending on if there are any other production hitches).

Now let's examine what Harris allegedly knows about his season 2 character arc. For plans to already be so firmed up, this must mean that a new showrunner has been appointed to take over from Chad Feehan, who exited the show just weeks before the season 1 premiere.

This could easily have been a remark made by producers just to keep Harris happy enough to carry out his two-season contract with Dutton Ranch. But the fact that neither Paramount, nor Taylor Sheridan or 101 Studios chose not to comment on Harris' interview makes me feel hopeful that Sheridan has quietly resumed his position as showrunner.

Call it delusion if nothing else, as this is what I've always wanted to happen with the Yellowstone spinoff. But it's a smart move — with season 1 performing so well for Paramount+, everything needs to be perfect to keep up momentum. Annoyingly, it's likely that the showrunner won't be announced until season 2 begins production.

If a big studio movie gets leaked online in its high-quality entirety long before it's supposed to be released on a major streaming service, you know that the schedule and strategy for both have gone completely wrong.

Alas, this is exactly what happened to Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender back in April 2026, causing the release date to be brought forward by three months to July 25. On top of this, Paramount+ has relented to a dogged campaign by fans to get the new movie screened in theaters, compromising on a limited theatrical release in New York and LA between July 25 and 30.

In essence, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender had been badly done by long before this review embargo had even lifted. Though the original cartoon had millennials in a chokehold in the early 2000s, Netflix has now swept in to control the public's perception of the IP with its continuing live-action series.

If you're of the same school of thought as me and find that the real-life Avatar: The Last Airbender is missing something, you've been yearning for the return of the animation. Now it's here... well, it feels like a misshapen birthday cake that's melting in the sun.

Between its abysmal release strategy and a storyline that's not under scratch, Aang's first return in two decades is a massively missed opportunity. But if you're prepared to put up with the issues, some nuggets of gold are still waiting to be found.

I'm completely floored by Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender's animation — but that stings

Here's a brief rundown of what actually happens during the 99-minute runtime. Thirteen years following the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai and the end of the Hundred-Year War, Avatar Aang (Eric Nam) discovers a surviving airbender named Tagah (Dave Bautista) and learns of a powerful staff that could restore his culture. With the help of his friends, they embark on a global quest to find the relic before a group called The Denied can claim it and upend the peace they fought to achieve.

When hours upon hours of handcrafted artistry are poured into something we get to watch, it's as if magic is unfolding in front of our eyes. Unsurprisingly, the visuals are the strongest element of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, to the point where I'm still thinking about them days after watching.

The new movie's understanding of perspective, movement, and detail is absolutely astonishing, moving through the Four Nations with such awe-inspired wonder that you want to live in each frame, like a kid visiting Disney World for the first time.

But this comes with a bittersweet feeling: are we really getting the best out of these gorgeous details on an iPhone, tablet, or even a TV? To me, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is clearly a movie that needs to be seen and appreciated on the biggest screen possible, something which a streaming service can never truly allow for.

Hooray for accessibility, but Paramount has completely fudged the wider potential for its release. Why does the eventual theatrical release feel so unnecessarily limiting when demand for it feels sky-high? If you are one of the lucky few with tickets and the right geographical location, let me know if I'm right about this.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender's character reunion is the most special part of the new movie

In fact, the animation is so good that you almost sidestep the fact that the film's storyline is almost non-existent. Tagah might look like a character who is obviously voiced by a ripped muscle man like Bautista, but he offers very little in the way of new satisfaction.

For starters, he is discovered buried alive in ice — exactly like how Aang was at the start of the series — which feels far too on the nose. He encourages Aang's unquenchable first to learn (which is a beautiful, life-affirming reminder), but would the film otherwise be different if Tagah vanished? I doubt it.

But never mind! We're here for the reunion for the core team, bringing back the core team of Aang, Katara (Jessica Matten), Soukka (Román Zaragoza), Toph (Dionne Quan), and Zuko (Steven Yeun), who are 13 years older than when we last saw them.

Time may have changed how they look, but their goofy and fun-loving personalities definitely haven't. The animation is able to capture the level of confident silliness that Netflix's live-action series has always lacked, meaning that their well-worn-in camaraderie feels like sinking into a warm bath. What's more beautiful than forgetting your troubles in a fun, fantastical world like this?

Watching the group laugh, play, and discover new things almost overshadows everything that's gone wrong with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender... almost. But when the storyline dips, you're quickly reminded of just how badly the creative teams have done by the older Aang's comeback.

Next time Avatar: The Last Airbender is revived, and it inevitably will be, let's let the fans be in control. They've got the biggest chance of getting the most right, after all.

Premiering on Paramount+ on August 2, the core cast, including Zoe Saldaña, Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman, is all set to return.

As the official synopsis explains, "Joe (Saldaña) walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange.

"Guided by Kaitlyn (Kidman) and Westfield (Kelly), Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life."

While the first teaser trailer already gave us a 60-second insight into what's to come, it's neither Joe's new dilemmas nor the upcoming action that's actually the most impressive part of what's to come.

Opinion: Lioness season 3 retaining its A-List supporting cast speaks volumes about Taylor Sheridan

After the success of Avatar, Lioness is likely Saldaña's most well-known and established project. But for Freeman and Kidman, it's a drop in a much wider ocean.

There's a long-standing joke that Kidman must be the busiest woman working in the industry, as she doesn't seem to go more than a few months without having a new project to promote.

Just this year, that includes Scarpetta, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Lioness season 3, and Practical Magic 2. On top of this, she's just finished filming Scarpetta season 2, and Big Little Lies season 3 is being teased like there's no tomorrow.

Retaining Kidman's involvement at all, let alone how much we're expecting to see her in new episodes, is nothing short of a miracle. The same can be said for Freeman but for different reasons — the man surely doesn't need to work, so project selection becomes picky. He is Morgan Freeman, after all.

Honestly, I'm incredibly impressed that both are returning for Lioness season 3 with seemingly healthy screentime, and that speaks volumes about Taylor Sheridan as a creator. Names like these two will only keep showing up if everything across the board is of the highest quality, from script to on-set experience.

Sheridan is nailing his A-List castings, from Demi Moore in Landman to Michelle Pfeiffer in The Madison. Clearly, there's a good reason why.

If you've been keeping a close eye on all things Paramount+ in the last week, you might have noticed that Mayor of Kingstown season 5 has wrapped production.

Tobi Bamtefa, who plays Bunny on the show, confirmed the news on Instagram, adding in a caption, "To those about to start from season 1, I envy you. Your socks are about to get blown off in the best way possible. 5 seasons with no breaks!!"

New episodes of the Taylor Sheridan series are set to be the last ever, despite the crime thriller originally being mapped out to run for seven seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter speculated that the unexpected cut falls in line with other Paramount+ original series, none of which have ever exceeded a fifth season. However, the studio has never given an official statement on this.

With production now finished, thoughts turn to when we might see Mayor of Kingstown season 5 episodes released. No date has been confirmed as of writing, but that doesn't mean that we can't use context clues to hazard an educated guess.

Opinion: Mayor of Kingstown season 5 could be released as early as November 2026

Let's look back at the Taylor Sheridan TV canon to see what sort of release schedules have come before. Landman season 2 was released in November 2025, with filming having completed in early August 2025.

Similarly, Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch wrapped production in March 2026, resulting in an incredibly quick turnaround, ready for its release in May 2026.

In short, Sheridan shows that only a matter of months is needed between filming and hitting the small screen as a finished product, which means — in a best-case scenario — we could expect Mayor of Kingstown season 5 to premiere as early as November 2026.

In Sheridan's world, anything is possible, but an exact release strategy will likely depend on what else is confirmed for Paramount+'s year-on-year schedule. We're expecting Dexter: Resurrection season 2 and Yellowjackets season 4 to arrive at some point before the year is out, and I don't think seeing Landman season 3 or The Madison season 2 is too far-fetched, either.

It all comes down to how much of a priority Mayor of Kingstown season 5 is for Paramount+, and that's a question that we just can't answer. However, the editing process starts now, and that can only be a good thing.

Essentially, this story, which sees protagonist Laura navigates her childhood days on the Prairie lands of Kansas, is comfort watching at its peak. And, while its typical "Netflix look" can be grating, if you look past the form, the content is meaningful. The Long Walk (HBO Max)

Francis Lawrence's excellent The Long Walk has strolled onto HBO Max and, in my view,it's one of the best Stephen King adaptations of all-time.

Set in a dystopian 1970s, a group of boys compete in an annual televised competition where they're forced to walk non-stop while maintaining a pace of 4.8 km per hour. If they don't, they're killed. There can only be one winner, too, so the pressure is on.

Esther Smith and Rafe Spall return as central couple Nikki and Jason, who we've watched journey to become parents and, now they have two foster children, they're having to navigate unexpected challenges. This season, Kat (Charlotte Riley), the biological mother of Princess and Tyler, returns and causes the family dynamics to shift.

Trying has been praised for its approach to difficult themes, providing both comedy and emotionally charged moments. It's very good to have this Apple TV Original back on our screens. — LB

Wardriver (Paramount+)

Did you really think that we were going to leave you action fans hanging this week? Introducing Wardriver, a new movie that's just dropped on Paramount+ and has already been described by fans online as "great acting of unsavory characters."

In it, we follow a hacker who gets caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse when he's forced into a multi-mullion dollar cyberheist. There's a real sense of jeopardy here, as every line of code could be his last.

Hopefully, that "last" doesn't come before the end of the movie's pithy 94-minute runtime. But hey, who knows with storytelling these days? — JV

Paramount+ has confirmed that MobLand season 2 will return on September 18, 2026 in its first teaser trailer, which you can catch up with below.

According to the studios, the 10-episode season will see "the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire.

"Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer’, must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify. As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy."

Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren will return to lead the cast, and are joined by Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Teddie Allen, Emmett J Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Ophelia Lovibond, Janet McTeer, and Toby Jones.

If anything, this could now confirm that Hardy's role in the show is safe, following rumors that he wouldn't be returning for season 3 after "career suicide behavior."

MobLand season 2 feels stronger than ever after Hardy exit rumors threatened to derail season 3

Let's recap what happened. On May 27, an article from The Hollywood Reporter claimed that if MobLand season 3 were renewed, it would begin shooting later this year — but behavior from star Tom Hardy had "spooked producers".

The source alleged: “He refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time. He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play. Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”

However, a separate source has since told Variety, “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for season 3 and things are being worked through creatively."

Paramount+ has made no official comment on renewal of season 3, but if it does happen, we can expect news towards the end of season 2's release.

In the meantime, the above trailer has already been described as "ruthless" by fans. As one YouTube comment puts it, "The first season set the chessboard. This trailer looks like someone just flipped the table. MobLand is back and it looks ruthless."

"There is no MobLand without Tom Hardy," a second weighed in.

If this isn't a maxim in showbiz world yet, it should be: if you want a TV show done well, let a fan take charge.

This mantra could have saved us from the hideous finales we saw from Game of Thrones and The Boys, and could have made a lot of series debuts... well, tolerable.

So far, Dutton Ranch hasn't had this problem — in fact, I'd go as far as to say that the Yellowstone spinoff was better received by fans and critics than I could ever have imagined.

But with showrunner Chad Feehan exiting the show before season 1 even reached Paramount+, Dutton Ranch season 2 could now be in a spot of trouble.

Sure, the season 1 finale left us with plenty to chew over, but, with an as-yet unannounced new creative lead set to take over, who knows what could happen next.

Luckily, fans already know what direction they want new episodes to take... and one theory is so delicious that I think executive producer Taylor Sheridan should be paying close attention.

Fans predict that 10 Petal will become the new Dutton Ranch halfway through Dutton Ranch season 2

Spoilers for the Dutton Ranch season 1 finale ahead.

"Here’s my prediction for where this is heading," one fan posted on Reddit. "Rip (Cole Hauser) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) team up with the Jacksons to get Carter (Finn Little) back.

"Once that’s resolved, Beulah (Annette Bening) retires and hands the ranch over to Rip and Beth setting them up as the new owners."

So far, so logical. Mariano's (Raoul Max Trujillo) men stormed Beth and Rip's house in the final scene of the season finale, taking Carter hostage after threatening the couple to step away from 10 Petal business or else.

With Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) now dead, Beulah has no direct successor to 10 Petal. Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) no longer seems like an option after... well, killing his brother... so who else does this leave?

"If the writers want the story to land, this is the move," the fan continues. "The whole appeal of Yellowstone was a massive, high-stakes ranch, and they’ll need to rebuild that scale here. You can’t just hand over an operation that size without a real arc behind it so getting Carter back becomes the emotional payoff that earns Rip and Beth their place at the top.

"Calling it now: by the midpoint of Season 2, the 10 Petal is the new Dutton Ranch."

Another weighed in, "Yeah, that’s what it’s looking like. Not sure if it will happen by season two unless the new show runner picks up the pacing."

"Agreed. I think Oriana's (Natalie Alyn Lind) pregnancy will tie in, in that Beulah will be comfortable handing the ranch to Beth and Rip, because it's staying in the family either way," a third weighed in.

It's certainly the most sensible path to take, but so much of what happens next will depend on the vision of whoever the next showrunner is.

I'm still holding out hope for a crossover with Landman or Marshals, but perhaps I'm running before I can walk. Season 3, perhaps?

Spoilers for Dutton Ranch episode 9 ahead.

From the jump, it was clear that the eventual finale of Dutton Ranch — episode 9 — would be an absolutely chaotic mind-melter. While I'm happy to report that my assumptions were right, there were some unanswered questions that I didn't expect at all.

For the most part, the Yellowstone spinoff has left us with multiple dilemmas following the ranch raid. The most pressing is whether Carter(Finn Little) will survive his kidnapping, and whether Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) can get to him before anything bad happens.

Then we'll have the fallout of Rob-Will's (Jai Courtney) death, which will definitely have messed with Joaquin's (Juan Pablo Raba) mind. This is also going to affect Mariano's (Raoul Max Trujillo) standing in the 10 Petal business, arguably likely to see even more power than he had before.

Beulah (Annette Bening), meanwhile, has absolutely nothing to her name. She needs to grieve Rob-Will, but Everett (Ed Harris) wants nothing to do with her, so her next moves cannot be immediately guessed.

Then, there's Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind). Will she keep the baby? Will Beth be there to support her? And will Rio Paloma ever be the same again?

Amazingly, none of these issues are what fans are the most perplexed by... and if you've been keeping a close eye on the show's first-look images, you might have noticed that something is missing.

Dutton Ranch season 1 completely cut out Beth bonding with her horses — despite advertising it

Recognize the above image? Despite it being a key part of Dutton Ranch's initial advertising campaign, the scene itself never materialised.

It's this that fans are hung up on, rather than anything that actually transpired in the explosive season finale.

"It makes me so mad they cut this scene of Beth and her horse from the season finale," one fan posted on Reddit. "This photo was released as an episode still on the Paramount+ press website. I’ve been looking forward to this scene. I can’t believe they cut it, but left in the teen angst. Beth and her horse have more chemistry than Carter and Oreana."

A second added, "I was so annoyed this scene was cut! It looks so sweet. It really does seem like so many tender scenes were cut this season, which is so disappointing.

"I loved this storyline and hope we get to see more of Beth with her horse in season 2. I’d also like to know what she named her."

According to the show notes, the still should have come from the season finale, but was cut. Some fans are speculating that the change is linked to the exit of showrunner Chad Feehan, who announced his departure from Dutton Ranch three weeks before it aired.

"With 6, 7 and 8 being such short runtime episodes, it begs to wonder how much footage — that potentially could have elevated those episodes as they were not the strongest of the season — ended up on the cutting room floor?" a third fan speculated.

As of writing, we don't yet know when Dutton Ranch season 2 will air, enter production, or who will take over as its showrunner. For now, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for some more equine action.

In the least surprising news known to man, Dutton Ranch was renewed for a second season before season 1 had even had time to air its penultimate episode (let alone that explosive finale).

According to Paramount+, season 1 amassed 12.9 million viewers globally in its first seven days following the Yellowstone spinoff's premiere, making it the biggest original series launch in the streamer's history.

But having nailed so many aspects of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip's (Cole Hauser) new life in Rio Paloma, the numbers make complete sense.

But with Dutton Ranch season 2 now official, what do we know about its development so far?

Dutton Ranch season 2 release window predictions

Currently, there's no confirmed word on when Dutton Ranch season 2 will air. However, it wouldn't be surprising for it to adopt the production of other Taylor Sheridan-produced shows like Landman, which gives us a rough guess.

The best-case scenario is that season 2 will film in late 2026, bringing episodes to the small screen in the first half of 2027. However, we could easily be left waiting until the latter half of the year, too.

Don't be silly. It took us until early May 2026 to get one for season 1, so expect the first full trailer to arrive around two weeks before the second season does.

Who will take over as Dutton Ranch showrunner?

As you might have heard, season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan exited the series a few weeks before its launch, after alleged on-set tension with Reilly, Hauser, and executive producer Taylor Sheridan.

Industry rumors have suggested that another writer would take over as lead showrunner, but this has so far been unconfirmed.

Sheridan has not directly led a Yellowstone spinoff since 1883 and 1923, but you can read more about why he'd be my ideal choice (because I won't stop going on about it).

I knew that the season finale of Dutton Ranch was going to be a corker, and the Yellowstone spinoff hasn't let me down.

Last week, episode 8 saw Carter (Finn Little) flip out at Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) separately, both feeling alienated after their move to Rio Paloma and suffocated by their decisions for his life.

A week on, and Carter is no longer the main player in our drama. Beulah (Annette Bening) is now out of the hospital after a heart attack at the 10 Petal anniversary party, and her decision to announce Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) as her successor is now starting to have serious repercussions.

But in the season finale, everyone needs to watch their back. Here's a full Dutton Ranch episode 9 breakdown, including what you need to watch out for when season 2 hits Paramount+.

Beth and Rip find fentanyl in 10 Petal's latest cattle shipment

We join episode 9 as Rip and Beth are intercepting a cattle shipment arriving at 10 Petal. Rob-Will arrives and tells the pair to get off his property, causing Rip to punch him in the face when he insults Beth.

An incredibly satisfying fight unfolds, leaving Rob-Will on the floor with a bloodied nose. Beth picks up his cattle book, calling out numbers to be hauled to one side.

Everett (Ed Harris) is called, and the separate cattle are tested. Making an incision in the first, Everett finds packages of drugs — that we later learn are filled with fentanyl — hidden in the cow, confirming that 10 Petal has been running an illegal drug smuggling business across the Mexican border.

After working through them all, Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) and Azul (J.R. Villarreal) estimate that the drugs have a street value of around $2 million, meaning that somebody is bound to come looking for it... and soon.

Beulah confesses all to Everett

After examining the cattle, Everett returns home to question Beulah. He's furious that she's been lying to everyone around her for so long, especially after claiming that she wanted to "run away" with him at the end of episode 8.

Immediately, she tells him everything. As we already saw in episode 7's flashback scenes, Beulah confesses to ranch hand Mariano (Raoul Max Trujillo) helping her hide Luke’s body.

What we didn't already know is that Luke is Rob-Will’s father, and Beulah’s dad blames Mariano for her assault. He offered Mariana a deal: take the heat and escape to Mexico, and the family would take in baby Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba).

However, Mariano's wife was killed back at the border, meaning he had extra leverage on the Jackson family. Cut to 15 years before the events of Dutton Ranch, and 10 Petal was on its knees after a drought ruined everything they had.

Joaquin stepped in and offered financial help to Mariano, and the drug smuggling scheme was born. Beulah claims that she's been looking for a way out of it for years, but Everett tells her to leave.

Mariano returns — and immediately threatens everyone

As you might have guessed from Joaquin's phone call at the end of episode 8, Mariano is officially back on the scene. After refusing to help Rob-Will when Beth and Rip unearth the smuggling scheme, Joaquin meets Mariano at a nearby motel.

Joaquin fills Mariano in on basically everything that's happened in the present day, with Mariano seething with rage at the idea of "strangers" being brought in to manage the ranch.

Rob-Will arrives and tells Mariano about the compromised cattle, leading Mariano to call Beth and Rip and threaten them over the phone. He then asks his guys to kill the rest of the 10 Petal ranchers and asks Joaquin to kill Rob-Will.

Oreana finds out that she's pregnant

While all of this is going on, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) finds herself at a crisis point. She finds out that she's pregnant after spontaneously doing a test, having to play off her fear when Beth arrives to ask if Oreana has seen Carter.

Without Beth knowing, Oreana immediately tracks Carter down to Dwight's (Ray McKinnon) old farm, where the pair share beers and talk about their woes. Oreana convinces Carter to call Beth, who's been relentlessly trying to get hold of him since his episode 8 disappearance. He does, but puts the phone down when Beth asks him to come home.

Back at 10 Petal, Oreana convinces Carter that they should elope, not telling him about the pregnancy. Carter is only too happy to do so, and the pair begin to pack their bags while Carter sneaks home to get his stuff.

Rob-Will dies after Joaquin's drive-by murder

While Oreana is packing, Rob-Will arrives home to see her. Oreana tells him that she's leaving, and instead of discouraging her, Rob-Will says that there's nothing for either of them at 10 Petal or in Rio Paloma, and kisses her.

However, Oreana never actually goes anywhere. A few seconds after leaving her bedroom, Rob-Will is found bleeding to death in the house's hallway following a loud gunshot. Oreana comes down the stairs quickly enough in time to see a black SUV speeding away, breaking down in tears over her dad's body.

She stays there until Beulah arrives, who cannot believe what has happened. We cut to Joaquin in the car, who is struggling to collect himself.

Mariano's men descend on Dutton Ranch — and kidnap Carter

Not knowing what to do for the best, Beth and Rip have huge decisions to make. Beth raids Beulah's slaughterhouse, but finds nothing aside from a wrangler who wants to beat her up (don't worry, Rip gets there first).

By the time they get home, Beulah is there, with Beth pulling a shotgun on her. Rip convinces Beulah to be let inside the house, where she details the same story that she told Everett earlier.

Beulah claims that she needs the drugs before Mariano can find out that they're missing, with Rip telling her that he's already got Zachariah to load them up in her car.

Obviously, the threatening phone call means that Mariano already knows what's up, so Beth, Rip, Azul, Zachariah, and later Everett get ready for Mariano's men to storm their ranch. Sure enough, they surround the house in the dead of night, with a classic shootout then taking place.

All of Mariano's men end up dead, except one, whom Rip takes to a nearby barn and interrogates while suspending him in the air.

At the same time, we see another group of Mariano's men storm into Carter's bedroom, pinning him to the ground before bundling him into a van. Beth gets another phone call, with Mariano confirming that they've kidnapped Carter.

The final scene of episode 9 shows Beth running into the barn in tears and telling Rip, "They've got him."

Season 2 predictions

It might not have felt like it to them, but Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip's (Cole Hauser) move to Rio Paloma has been nothing short of a success, even if Carter (Finn Little) actively hates it.

In the words of Charli XCX in 2024, we're going full brat. Dutton Ranch episode 8 turns the tables on Carter (Finn Little) after getting hideously drunk at the 10 Petal anniversary party and destroying Beulah's (Annette Bening) property.

He's been lashing out in the Yellowstone spinoff for two reasons: the fact he's had to move to Texas in the first place — being convinced that Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) are now interfering in his life too much — and because Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) has rejected him for someone with more status and money.

Mix in the expected teen angst of a 19-year-old and you've got a very unnecessary storm brewing. With Beulah collapsing to the floor in the finale scene of episode 7 (just after Carter smashed up her prized bull head), the tension is even higher.

In fact, Carter haters might want to look away from Dutton Ranch episode 8 altogether... and you'll see why below.

Beulah is hospitalized after having a heart attack — and everyone is questioning her decisions

Episode 8 starts with Beulah being airlifted out of the party and sent to hospital, with Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) following close behind.

The next morning, Rob-Will finds Oreana, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) and Everett (Ed Harris) in the hospital waiting room, and explains that Beulah has had a heart attack. She has a standard angioplasty procedure and is declared medically fine.

Beulah asks to see Rob-Will and Joaquin together before anyone else, with the pair still taking swipes out of each other. She explains that Rob-Will has been given 10 Petal because he is "weak," with Beulah adding "it's not your prize, it's your protection."

She claims that the brothers are going to be joined at the hip no matter what, and that Rob-Will needs Joaquin much more than the other way around. Rob-Will also claims that he wants to fire Beth and Rip with Beulah refusing, responding that they are the "assets" that the ranch needs.

Beth herself stops by to visit later, offering her apologies for Carter's behaviour the night before. The pair talk about the fallout of parenting boys before Beth moves onto why she's really there: she cannot understand the decision behind Rob-Will's appointment.

"I agreed to work with you, not with him," she adds, claiming that they need to speak about things properly once Beulah is out of hospital. Everett asks her the same questions when he visits on his own later on, with Beulah implying that 10 Petal had to go to a "flesh and blood relation."

Their conversation moves onto Beulah's suggestion of retiring together earlier in the season, with Everett stating that he's ready for a new shot at romance if she is. "If I knew a heart attack was going to change your mind, I'd have had one a lot sooner," Beulah replies.

Everett takes Beulah back to his to recoup at home, essentially breaking out of the hospital before she's officially been discharged.

A disgraced Carter finally opens up to Beth — but it all goes wrong

Rip and Carter make their way back from the party on horseback, with Carter repeatedly falling off and vomiting over his own horse (maybe one of the worst things I've ever seen).

The next morning, Beth makes Carter a coffee and asks to talk to him outside. Carter reveals that he's quit school, though neglects to tell her anything about working with Dwight (Ray McKinnon). Beth implies that just hating school isn't good enough, telling Carter that he needs to take every opportunity to make his life better with both hands.

Despite being hungover, Rip makes good on his promise to Carter to take him to work at 10 Petal to get some experience. Immediately, Azul (J.R. Villarreal) and the other ranchers start ribbing Carter for how much he's had to drink, which takes a sour turn when Carter is thrown off of his horse while trying to lasso an escaped cow.

Rip scolds Carter for snapping at Azul, with Carter swearing and storming off in a huff. Rip finds him in a cattle barn, telling him that if any other rancher had rode away from him, they'd be fired on the spot.

Carter threatens Rip to do it, with Rip sensing that Carter wants to throw a punch. Rip then tries to teach him lessons from life's failures while also empathizing with Carter's struggles of being an orphan, but Carter is having none of it.

Returning home, Carter than explodes at Beth, who tearfully claims that she's going to try harder to be a better mother figure. Carter says he needs some time alone, and drives off.

We later find him back at Dwight's, with the Sherriff (Josh Stewart) finding him outside the empty leopard cage. Carter than tries to blackmail the Sherriff into getting a job shadowing him by threatening to reveal that he killed Dwight for no good reason.

It doesn't work, but there is some good news... we learn that Dwight's leopard has been rehomed at a local zoo.

Joaquin tries to turn Rob-Will in for murder

Fuming after his conversation with Beulah, Joaquin pays his own visit to the Sherriff's office. He reveals a gun in a plastic bag, which was the same gun that Rob-Will used to kill Wes (Nakoa DeCoite) in episode 1.

Joaquin tells the Sherriff about Wes, but cannot prove anything because he doesn't know where the body is. The Sherriff tells him to leave the gun, but that he doesn't believe a word Joaquin is saying. "I haven't forgotten who you are... I just no longer give a f**k," the Sherriff says.

On the drive home, an infuriated Joaquin is seen roadside by a local graveyard in a fit of rage. In episode 8's final scene, we see Joaquin get back in his car to dial his dad — who if you remember from episode 7, was essentially Beulah's caretaker.

In Spanish, we hear Joaquin say, "Hi, Dad. I need your help."

Austin tells 10 Petal's truth to Beth and Rip

10 Petal rancher Austin's (Sterlin English) moral crisis also reaches a head in episode 8. After the deaths of Wes and Chet (Hart Denton), he's on a rampage to reveal the Jackson's family secrets once and for all.

This starts with Austin pulling a gun on Miguel (Berto Colon) during wrangling hours, demanding that he reveal what's been going on or be killed. Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) has to intervene, with Austin later asking him if Rip can be trusted. "With your life," replies Zachariah.

That evening, the pair visit Beth and Rip at home and reveal the truth — 10 Petal is running an illegal cattle smuggling operation across the Mexican border to keep financially afloat. The next shipment is in two days, leaving Rip and Beth at a loss for what to do next.

This also explains how Bullet, the bull bought at cattle auction in episode 2, was able to be unvetted while having foot and mouth disease.

Dutton Ranch season 2 has officially been confirmed by Paramount+ just days ahead of its penultimate season 1 episode airing.

Season 1 amassed 12.9 million viewers globally in its first seven days following the Yellowstone spinoff's premiere, making it the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history, according to the streamer.

“Beth and Rip are among the most iconic duos in television history, and we are thrilled to bring a whole new world to life with Dutton Ranch for our subscribers around the world,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+.

Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios, added, "We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in season 2.”

No further details have been announced as of writing, but we can expect Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser to return to their leading roles (the pair act as executive producers on the show).

But with season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan exiting the series weeks before the premiere, who will take over?

Opinion: Now that Dutton Ranch season 2 is confirmed, Taylor Sheridan needs to properly return

Back in April 2026, it was reported that Chad Feehan left the show after alleged on-set tension with Reilly, Hauser, and executive producer Taylor Sheridan.

Industry rumors suggested that another writer would take over as lead showrunner, but to me, it's the perfect time for Sheridan to get back in the driver's seat.

The Yellowstone mastermind has been dedicating his time to Lioness, Landman, and, most recently, The Madison, having not directly led a Yellowstone spinoff since 1883 and 1923.

That being said, Dutton Ranch has still performed exceptionally well without him, whereas the fellow spinoff Marshals, has suffered. Surely, it would be a pretty nice thing to jump on the victory train that is Beth and Rip's new life in Texas.

We likely won't know who will take over until production starts. As of yet, no filming timeline or predicted release window has been confirmed.

Spoilers for Dutton Ranch episode 7 ahead.

As far as fictional parties go, 10 Petal ranch's 190-year anniversary bash in Dutton Ranch episode 7 was pretty tame.

Most of it went without a hitch, with even Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) blending into the background. Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) returned home to bully mom Beulah (Annette Bening) into changing her plans for the ranch's successor... and it works.

Shortly after Beulah announces that Rob-Will will be taking her place — and almost everybody else around them has objected — Beulah falls to the floor, potentially on the brink of death.

All has yet to be revealed in the Yellowstone spinoff, but Dutton Ranch fans have been distracted by something (and someone) much more unfulfilling. Does the new Paramount+ show need a drastic shakeup already?

Dutton Ranch fans want to see less of Carter — and his painful on-off romance with Oreana

Yep, that's right — Dutton Ranch fans are practically begging for Beth and Rip's adopted "son" Carter (Finn Little) to have less screentime.

"I know I should care about Carter as I used to on Yellowstone. But in my opinion, there are too many scenes with him and not enough of the other characters. Honestly, he bores me," one fan posted on Reddit.

A second agreed, "His character is poorly written this time and that combined with Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) makes it a hard watch. I hope it develops a bit but I don't expect too much."

"Yeah, teenage angst is not why I watch," a third chipped in.

Up until episode 5, Carter's healthy screentime made sense. He needed to get settled into Rio Paloma, and he's the only character who actively protests against the family's move from Montana.

He was also embroiled in the death of Dwight (Ray McKinnon), which has emphasized his internal battle between being a boy and a man. But for many, it's this that is Dutton Ranch's "toughest watch."

"Love the show but I hope the high school subplot ends soon," one fan writes, as another adds, "I get the whole teenage angst thing. But he's still an annoying little sh*t."

A third weighs in, "I was hoping the Dwight situation would be a subplot like Joe Exotic or something interesting. The older gf looks 30 and it’s not as interesting unless Beth goes after her soon and takes care of it."

With Oreana now seemingly gravitating towards another love interest, Carter's teen angst could actually be kicked up a notch. But with two episodes of Dutton Ranch left to go, anything is possible.

Has Beulah (Annette Bening) actually been left for dead after falling to the floor at the end of Dutton Ranch episode 7? My gut says no... but when it comes to Rio Paloma, nothing can be second guessed.

Last week's 10 Petal anniversary party saw Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) officially announced as Beulah's successor, upsetting not just Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), but almost everybody that Beulah is directly in business with.

Obviously, it's all going to end in tears. But when does Dutton Ranch episode 8 land on Paramount+?

With Dutton Ranch episode 7 arriving on Paramount+ this week, our attention is starting to turn to the Yellowstone spinoff's future.

We've got two episodes left in the current batch, and at this stage, anything could happen. Beulah (Annette Bening) has just announced 10 Petal's successor, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) are outright working for her, and Carter (Finn Little) is learning what it's like to get your heart broken.

With Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) also returning to Rio Paloma, the tension is like a boiling pot ready to spit hot water at whatever is nearby.

But is this enough to pull off Dutton Ranch season 2? I think it's the easiest yes in the world... and according to one star, the viewership should speak for itself.

'The numbers speak for themselves'

"I hope so," Berto Colón, who plays Miguel on the hit series, says when I ask him about Dutton Ranch season 2 being renewed.

"I mean, the writing is on the wall, right? I think that the success of the show speaks for itself. There needs to be a continuation to this.

"Obviously, I don't have any actual carnal knowledge of that. I just know that the numbers speak for themselves. What I've gathered in my experience of this business is that if any show deserves a few, a few more seasons is this one."

From an IP perspective alone, he's not wrong. Yellowstone has already been able to churn out four separate spinoffs: 1883, 1923, Marshals and Dutton Ranch.

Out of all of them, Dutton Ranch is the most likely to rival Yellowstone's own legacy, and certainly has the most mileage. Given that there's also fan interest in a Marshals crossover, reuniting Beth with brother Kayce (Luke Grimes), the Duttons are a gift that keeps on giving.

With no renewal in sight yet, I don't think it will take long for Paramount+ to commit. My advice? Keep your eyes peeled around the same time that the season finale drops on July 3.

With some fans suggesting its forebear wasn't as good as it could've been, and behind-the-scenes drama between showrunner Ryan Condal and Thrones overlord George R.R. Martin that wouldn't look out of place in the latter's high fantasy book franchise, the HBO Max TV Original's latest chapter really needs to deliver.

How to Make a Killing (HBO Max)

Black comedy movie How to Make a Killing is streaming on HBO Max this weekend. It was ultimately a flop and received a lot of criticism upon its initial theatrical release, including in my How to Make a Killing review, which is where I described it as a "rare misfire" for A24.

The Agency season 2 (Paramount+)

Paramount+'s addictive spy thriller is back and reportedly better than ever. For the uninitiated: Michael Fassbender play Brandon Colby, a spy going by the pseudonym 'Martian'.

There are plenty of tense interrogations and nail-biting scenes this time around. Season 2 picks up soon after the first's dramatic finale, and sees 'Martian' feeling the pressure after becoming a double agent for MI6. Amid all that, he's trying to manage his volatile relationship with Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith), who has been imprisoned in Sudan.

So, Martian has a lot on his plate, which is good news for us at home, because it means we're all guaranteed to be on the edge of our seats. — LB

I Will Find You (Netflix)

Another Harlan Coben series landing on Netflix means that we'll be sat and locked in for the foreseeable. After Run Away melted our minds in January, I Will Find You takes the chaos and raises it with a mind-boggling child murder case.

We follow David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son, Matthew. When his ex-sister-in-law and disgraced journalist Rachel (Britt Lower) finds evidence that Matthew might still be alive, the race is on to prove David's innocence and find his son.

Expect crazy confessions and twists and turns that will leave you with whiplash... and that's just in the first episode. — JV

Your Fault: London (Prime Video)

As the latest in Prime Video's hit Your Fault movie series, the London contingent has a lot to live up to. In fact, we're picking up after the events of the previous film, with Noah (Asha Banks) and Nick (Matthew Broome) now in a full-blown relationship.

This doesn't sound too out of the ordinary... until you learn that the pair are step-siblings. Now they pursue different paths, with Nick in business and Noah at Oxford. As always, they are dealing with new relationships and secrets. Let's just hope that they're ones we can cope with. — JV

Sugar season 2 (Apple TV)

The effortlessly cool Sugar returns for season 2 of this Apple Original and I've certainly enjoyed my latest trip to this sunny LA location. It's stunning as ever with its signature retro vibe and our protagonist John Sugar (Colin Farrell) has brought more of his own personal demons along for the ride, too.

The life of a private investigator comes with a lot of stress, and Sugar is feeling it when the trail to track down his missing sister goes cold. So, he takes on another case to keep himself occupied, agreeing to help a boxer whose brother and trainer has also gone missing.

There are a lot more film noir references here and enough mystery to keep you interested. It's another win for Apple TV and an enjoyable love letter to Old Hollywood. If you've already seen Sugar season 1, check out my Sugar season 2 review for my full thoughts. — LB

Spoilers for Dutton Ranch episode 7 ahead.

After last week's episode was brave enough to kill off one of its most problematic characters on the hoof, I expected big things from this week's installment of Dutton Ranch.

In episode 6, disgruntled ex-foreman Chet (Hart Denton) was killed in cold blood after trying to take down eldest Jackson brother Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) by shooting him in the hand. Rip (Cole Hauser) saw the whole thing play out and asked no questions... for now.

Meanwhile, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Beulah (Annette Bening) have formed a business partnership and have successfully won their first client. But how long can peace be between them — especially after Beulah alluded to knowing the truth about Jamie Dutton's death?

Teeing this week up for big things, I'm not sure Dutton Ranch episode 7 actually pulled off a satisfying follow-up. Now that the episode is on Paramount+, let's dissect what did (and didn't) happen.

Dutton Ranch episode 7 starts with a teenage Beulah flashback

Unexpectedly — and in one of the more intriguing creative choices in this episode — we kick episode 7 off with a flashback to Beulah's youth. We see a rancher drop her and two friends off at a Texan bar, which is revealed to be Mariano, Joaquin's father.

Beulah soon hits the dance floor with a young man called Luke, who seemingly makes all the most charming moves possible. Whenever he tries to dominate her in conversation, Beulah gives as good as she gets.

Mariano drinks coffee and talks to a waitress at the bar, who seems incredibly interested in his life. It's then revealed that Luke had paid her $20 to try and ply him with beer and keep him occupied while he took Beulah to a nearby motel and sexually assaulted her.

By the time Mariano finds her, she's standing outside with her dress half torn off, a bloody nose, and only one boot on. "Did you see me fall off that mechanical bull?" Beulah asks him. "Well, that's exactly what you're gonna tell my Daddy."

We also end the episode with another flashback, this time Mariano coming to get Beulah before her father gives a speech at a ranch party (the parallels will make sense the more you read on).

Beulah doesn't want to be there, asking Mariano to instead drive her somewhere. She arrives at Luke's house, shoots him dead, and emerges with her previously lost boot from the night of the assault.

The 10 Petal party gets underway — and is mostly a drama-free affair

In the present day, Beulah is busy organizing the ranch for its 190-year celebrations. She reveals to Joaquin that she will use the party to announce her successor during a speech, with Joaquin being convinced that the responsibility will fall to him.

Rip, Beth and Carter (Finn Little) all get ready for the party, deciding to arrive on horseback rather than having to drive. Beth and Rip soon talk business, while Beulah is left to play the hostess with the mostess... and sneak some quality time in with date Everett (Ed Harris).

Oreana reveals that she's got a new love interest

After the family arrives at the party, Carter makes a beeline for Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind). However, he soon finds her with another guy, who's well-dressed and seemingly comes from money.

When Carter tries to say hello, she completely blanks him and continues her previous conversation. Everett tries to console Carter when he's left standing alone later on, but Oreana soon comes up to him at the bar to ask if he's enjoying the event.

Carter takes his frustrations out on her, claiming that this is someone else she's been dating the entire time behind his back. "Well, if it was, it'd be none of your goddamn business," Oreana replies before leaving.

10 Petal rancher Austin starts to doubt the Jackson family

Across town, Beulah has set up an open tab at the local bar for 10 Petal wranglers, rather than having them cause a scene at her party.

It's a smart decision, with the gang soon starting a fight with other local ranchers who accuse 10 Petal of cheating at a card game... and hiding more secrets than anyone will let on. Azul (J.R. Villarreal) and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) are also there, and get stuck into the action.

Later on, cleaning up after the mess, 10 Petal rancher Austin admits that he thinks that the naysayers from earlier in the evening are right — with both Wes and Chet now missing, it's clear that the Jacksons are waist-deep in secrets.

The others tell him to forget it and look the other way, which Austin argues is all they've been doing for years. Let's just say it creates a tense atmosphere.

Rob-Will arrives and bullies Beulah into handing 10 Petal over to him — and it works

Oreana calls Beulah inside, who finds Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) sitting at her desk. Oreana was keeping his return to 10 Petal a surprise, having returned to Rio Paloma itself at the end of episode 5.

Rob-Will claims that he's clean (despite swigging vodka from a bottle every 10 seconds) and that if Beulah is announcing her successor tonight, it has to be him. He claims that he's everything she wanted a son to be — clear-eyed, ruthless and "a killer," alluding to the fact that he knows Beulah killed Luke in her youth.

This then becomes a blackmail situation, with Beulah standing firm on not giving in to what Rob-Will is asking. We find out his full name with the next line: "My name is Robert William Jackson III, and this ranch was always going to belong to me," he says in reference to Beulah's grandad who founded it.

When Beulah makes her speech, Joaquin gets ready to hear his name as successor, only for his mother to confirm that Rob-Will will eventually take over the ranch within the next five years.

The crowd is clearly unsettled by the news, with the ranch's latest investor threatening to pull out because Rob-Will is a known drug addict. Beth and Rip look on, concerned.

Joaquin leaves the party almost immediately, claiming that Rob-Will has "f**ked it" for almost everyone involved.

I shouldn't pre-empt my sadness for fictional TV characters, but I'll be devastated when Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch comes to an end on July 3.

My expectations weren't low, but the new Paramount+ series has hugely exceeded them. Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip's (Cole Hauser) dogged loyalty to each other and their shared life gets more satisfying to watch by the minute, and their move to Rio Paloma feels like the clean break from Montana that they sorely needed.

The 10 Petal ranch is also growing on me, too. Clearly Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) is an absolutely psychopath, but matriarch Beulah (Annette Bening) definitely isn't the villain that she was originally made out to be. With Dutton Ranch episode 7 now on the horizon, it's implied that there are still more secrets in the Jackson family than meet the eye.

Luckily for us, star Berto Colón, who plays Miguel on the hit series, has confirmed that I'm correct... so strap in for exactly what we should expect across Dutton Ranch episodes 7-9.

'I'm excited for people's reactions to seeing what's really going on'

"Rip and Beth are on a collision course with Beulah, and there are things that are going to be revealed in the coming weeks," Colón begins. "The Jackson family has some secrets. That final scene with Beth and Beulah in episode 6 is a teaser to what's coming next.

"The power move that the couple make to unite with the Jacksons means there will be some revelations about the things that have kept the ranch going. I'm excited for people's reactions to what's really going on. It's explosive."

If what's to come is explosive, then what does that mean for what we've already seen? From Beth and Rip losing their entire herd of cattle to foot and mouth disease to Carter (Finn Little) being caught up in a police raid with an illegally bought leopard, the series so far hasn't exactly been relaxing.

"Rob-Will is another big one," Colón continues. "There's more to be revealed as far as how the family came to be. "Hold on to your seats... it's gonna be quite a wild ride with everyone involved."

If Dutton Ranch is on the trajectory that I think it is, we could be looking at peak Yellowstone levels of chaos and cliffhangers. I've been missing Taylor Sheridan as a showrunner for the most part, but maybe this is when my mind will be changed for good.

Dutton Ranch episode 7 drops on Paramount+ on June 19, and boy, are we in for a doozy.

Last week, we saw the outcome of Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) arriving back on the scene, leaving Chet (Hart Denton) for dead after a shootout with Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) outside the 10 Petal ranch. Rob-Will claims that a man can only get rejected if he lets himself be pushed over, and starts his plans to wage war on the family who kicked him out.

At the same time, Beulah (Annette Bening) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) score their first business deal together after Beulah agrees to hire Beth as 10 Petal's brand manager. The pair bonded over their shared trauma of families sacrificing everything to uphold a legacy, and that's clearly left an impression on Beulah.

After Beulah hinted that 10 Petal would be throwing a party for its upcoming 190-year anniversary, the Dutton Ranch episode 7 trailer (which you can catch up with below) shows that she's actually going to use the event to announce her successor.

With Rob-Will back in the picture, his reign of brutality might make him seem like the obvious choice. But fans of the Yellowstone spinoff have other ideas.

Dutton Ranch fans think Beulah will hand over 10 Petal to Beth and Rip in episode 7

Yep, you read that correctly: fans are convinced that Beulah is about to hand 10 Petal over to her neighbors-turned-rivals, Beth and Rip (Cole Hauser).

"Beth is the son everyone, including Beulah, wants but never had. Rip storming off with Beth trailing behind indicates trouble at 10P, which wouldn’t be the case if Beulah handed over control to Beth and Rip," one fan wrote on Reddit.

Another argues, "I don't disagree. But, looking at it on the flipside, Rip could also be angry because he doesn't want to own a ranch that is essentially Yellowstone 2.0 with its problems."

And problems there are. Rob-Will's fury in episode 1 stemmed from accusations that he was fixing the ranch's cattle books while in his role as foreman. On top of that, Beulah and Joaquin are trying to hide the fact that Rob-Will has also killed a rancher who allegedly let this slip.

"Zero chance Beulah is actually going to resign; she’s playing her son; she’s not dumb; they are fooling us here or hand it over," a third argues.

Beth and Rip as the new owners isn't too far-fetched, though. Both are currently working for Beulah after losing their own cattle to foot and mouth disease, and they've integrated well into the Jackson way of working.

Beulah clearly has a fondness for them both, alongside the reputation of John Dutton (Kevin Costner). On top of this, it's clear that she's hiding something about her personal life, putting emphasis on the fragility of the future during her conversations with Everett (Ed Harris).

For the Dutton Ranch story to progress, a huge move like this works to further things along. But who knows... truly, anybody could be Beulah's first choice.

Dutton Ranch episode 6 hasn't just left us reeling after one death, but two.

The main bump-off this time around was Chet (Hart Denton), who died after trying to kill Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) in a fit of revenge-fueled rage.

Rocking up to 10 Petal with nothing but a gun and an angry ego courtesy of Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), Chet shot Joaquin in the hand before being killed by rancher Miguel (Berto Colón).

However, Chet wasn't the only dead guy rattling around in the Yellowstone spinoff last week. We were still dealing with the fallout from Dwight's (Ray McKinnon) death during the episode 5 police raid, with Carter (Finn Little) refusing to tell Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) how traumatized he feels.

In fact, Carter is keeping the fact that he ever worked for Dwight at all to himself, given that it would prove he's skipping school on a regular basis.

From Dutton Ranch episode 6 onwards, Dwight's death won't just continue to impact Carter, but another unsuspecting survivor you might have forgotten about.

Now that Dwight is dead, what will happen to his leopard?

The showpiece of Dwight's chaotic-looking yard is the enclosed leopard he keeps at the center of it. In fact, the leopard is our number one witness when Dwight is chased across the grass by a team of armed police officers, with one of them eventually shooting him in the head.

Earlier on in episode 5, Carter brings Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) to get a close-up look, but episode 6 completely neglects that fact that it's presumably still locked up in a cage and not being fed.

"So the bodies are piling up! Naturally, my question is, what's going to happen to the leopard? I hope it won't be left there to starve!" one fan posted on Reddit.

logically, one of two things will happen next. The first option is the least dramatic: that the leopard was turned over to the police during the raid, and will quietly be re-homed off-screen.

"I doubt the leopard will be brought up again. Most likely the police called someone to pick it up and it's already gone," another fan agrees.

The second option is a lot more exciting. Now that Dwight and Carter's stories are intertwined — it's clear that Dwight's words of wisdom will leave a lasting effect on Carter — it's completely possible that the leopard could join the family on Dutton Ranch.

With all of the cattle now gone thanks to the foot and mouth disease outbreak, there's plenty of room for a more exotic animal. Beth and Rip are basically working directly for 10 Petal, so what's stopping Carter bringing a leopard home?

It's a rogue move, but not an impossible one... but for now, we'll just have to trust that Dwight's leopard is A-okay somewhere in Rio Paloma.

The more that Dutton Ranch continues, the more you guys are loving it. Personally, I'm still full of second-hand embarrassment for Carter after he chose to tell Oreana that he loved her.

That went down like a led balloon, but that wasn't the only bad news of last week. Dutton Ranch episode 6 saw Beulah confront Beth about the mystery surrounding Jamie Dutton's death in Yellowstone, alongside Rip finally finding out the truth about Wes' demise.

Even with spinoffs Marshals and Dutton Ranch airing this year, nothing truly touches the sides of Yellowstone's impact. All five seasons are streaming on Paramount+, but I've decided to up the ante.

Before his untimely death, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) was a man who knew his land like the back of his hand. The reason for his and the ranch's existence is to protect the family legacy... and now that the surviving Duttons have left the ranch altogether, it's basically up to us to keep John's wishes going.

In order to do so, we need to know the ins and outs of the hit Taylor Sheridan show like we were working the Dutton land like ranchers. To kick us off, I've put together a quiz that only a true Yellowstone fan can handle — so are you up to the challenge?

The Yellowstone spirit isn't completely lost, though. Dutton Ranch is set to run until July 3, with Marshals season 2 returning to screens later in 2026.

The explosive and incredibly chaotic 60-second first look confirms series leads Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman will all be reprising their roles in new episodes.

As the official synopsis explains, "Joe (Saldaña) walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange.

"Guided by Kaitlyn (Kidman) and Westfield (Michael Kelly), Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life."

Taylor Sheridan is returning to write the series, as well as acting as an executive producer.

Watch the above, and you'll be bombarded with explosions, kidnappings, and the Lioness squad armed with guns storming into abandoned buildings. At first glance, that's exactly like the previous two seasons, with little difference.

But if something isn't broken, you don't fix it — and Lioness delivering more of exactly what fans want is what might make it the strongest and most underrated Taylor Sheridan show of the bunch.

However, there could be a huge change on the horizon... just have to look at what isn't being shown. Joe and husband Neal (Dave Annable) were having serious marital problems in season 2, and judging by their sparse dialogue in the teaser, that could be about to get even worse.

"I'm scared for you... scared the way it became this world," Neal says, with Joe responding, "The world didn't become this way... it's always been this way."

It's another stark reminder of just how different their worlds and opinions are, and I don't know if their relationship is strong enough to survive Joe's genuinely life-or-death missions.

We'll know more on August 2, though we're yet to know just how season 3 episodes will be released.

What do you mean that in the blink of an eye (aka, one episode) Dutton Ranch and 10 Petal ranch have effectively become one unit?

After foot and mouth disease wiped out Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip's (Cole Hauser) entire cattle herd, the pair both reached out to Beulah (Annette Bening) for jobs. Rip is now 10 Petal's foreman, pushing out Chet (Hart Denton), who has taken his firing with all the grace of a reversing dump truck.

Beth is now on hand as Beulah's brand manager, claiming she can turn 10 Petal into a "recession-proof household name" in the next three years.

On top of all of this, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) has somehow found his way home after a stay at an out-of-state rehab clinic. He's after revenge in order to return to his "rightful" place in the Jackson family.

In a nutshell, that makes this week's cowboy binge on Paramount+ even more chaotic. Dutton Ranch episode 6 is an eye-opening one, to say the least... and we've got a brand-new link to Yellowstone.

Rip oversees new cattle arrival at 10 Petal — and some friendly competition begins

Rip enlists the help of ranchers Azul (J.R. Villarreal) and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) at 10 Petal when they're expecting a new herd of Angus cows to join the existing cattle.

Azul manages to separate the ones that look as though they might be ill, and for the most part, both Dutton Ranch and 10 Petal teams work together to ensure that the job is done seamlessly.

However, bickering, name-calling and superficial rivalries rear their heads just as quickly, with the 10 Petal boys proposing a one-handed roping competition between the two ranches. Azul and Zachariah win hands-down, claiming a shiny gold belt buckle as a trophy from the youngest 10 Petal rancher.

We also learn that Azul is expecting a baby, and meet his girlfriend for the first time in the opening scene.

Carter tells Oreana that he loves her... and she's not impressed

Carter (Finn Little) is still badly shaken up after Dwight's (Ray McKinnon) death in episode 5, but he's refusing to tell Beth and Rip — that would mean admitting that he's been skipping school to "work" in a drunk man's backyard.

Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) asks Carter to go fishing with her, which Beulah also agrees to. The two discuss life while floating in the river, both claiming that neither want to be owned by families that are seemingly deciding their futures for them.

With his guard down, Carter tells Oreana that he thinks he's in love with her, to with Oreana replies, "I don't think either of us really know what love is."

Before Carter has time to wallow in his rejection, Oreana gets a text on her phone, explaining that they both "have somewhere else they need to be."

Everett spends the night at Beulah's

Earlier that morning, Everett (Ed Harris) is seen waking up at Beulah's house, with the two of them alluding to a "fun" night the night before.

Beulah asks him to stay again the following night, but Everett says that he thinks it's best to sleep in his own bed for the night.

He then brings up that Beulah is planning on hosting a party to celebrating 10 Petal ranch turning 190 years old. Beulah wants Everett there as her date, to which he says that he'd be "honored."

Rob-Will and Chet get revenge on Joaquin with fatal results

After Rob-Will's arrival in episode 5, Chet begins to visit him in a motel. Chat is stewing in his anger after being fired by Rip, telling Rob-Will that he's given his entire life to the Jacksons — and hidden all of their secrets — for nothing in return.

Rob-Will claims that a man can only get rejected if he lets himself be pushed over, and starts his plans to wage war on the family who kicked him out. This involves getting a bunch of guns from a dodgy-looking dealer, who Chet has to talk Rob-Will out of killing.

Later that night, Chet waits in the bushes outside the 10 Petal ranch and jumps Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), who is waiting for Rip. He launches into a speech about how badly Joaquin and 10 Petal have treated him, shooting Joaquin in the hand and bringing him to his knees.

As Joaquin begs for his life and Chet lines up another fatal shot, rancher Miguel (Berto Colón) fires a bullet into Chet's head, killing him instantly.

Rip finds out the truth about Wes' death

Just as Chet is killed, Rip arrives on the driveway. Joaquin explains that Chet had "issues" with his termination, but Rip doesn't ask any questions. Instead, he offers to take Joaquin to get his hand fixed away from prying eyes.

On the drive, Rip pulls over and asks Joaquin who put Wes' (Nakoa DeCoite) body on Dutton property. Joaquin confesses that Wes was a 10 Petal rancher who also acted as Rob-Will and Chet's dealer. He claims that "things went too far" and that Rob-Will is "a fool."

"I know a lot of fools, but none of them are killers," Rip replies. He reveals that Joaquin's private doctor is Everett, who bond over Beulah while sorting out the gunshot wound.

Beth and Beulah secure their first business deal — but Jamie's Yellowstone death changes the tone

But where have Beth and Beulah been in all of this? Out of town on business, with Beulah taking Beth on a private jet to meet a potential new client in Zane Nash, who's in charge of supplying food to the majority of hotels in Texas.

Beth explains that men like him, who have come from nothing to make something, make deals "in the detail," and that preparation is important. Zane initially dismisses the pair to be just like any other offer that comes through his office, but after being vulnerable about their separate histories and winning Zane over on a personal level, the deal is done.

In the bar that evening, Beulah and Beth muse on the similarities that their families have, which eventually leads to taking in "wayward sons."

"Joaquin, Carter... Jamie Dutton," Beulah says, which snaps Beth back into defensive mode. "I don't think about him anymore," Beth responds.

Beulah says that she can see why Beth doesn't, but then alludes to the fact that it is strange Jamie's disappearance was never accounted for. This essentially implies that Beulah know's more than she's letting on about Jamie's fatal Yellowstone death.

"I don't think about that either," Beth snaps back, as the two settle into an uncomfortable silence and the scene fades to black.

In April 2026 — a month before Dutton Ranch made its Paramount+ debut — it was reported that showrunner Chad Feehan had exited the series following alleged "behind-the-scenes friction with series stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, as well as 'other key players' such as Taylor Sheridan."

Puck News added, "Feehan finished the first season but has been told he won’t return for the second, per three sources. (I think the feeling was mutual and Feehan likely would have bailed anyway.)

"This was less of a pure creative issue, I’m told — the scripts were good, and after some work on the cut, Paramount is confident in the show — and more about how Feehan ran the production. Sheridan, producer David Glasser, and the stars weren’t happy, so Feehan’s out, and Sheridan and Glasser will likely elevate another season 1 writer to the showrunner gig."

Hauser cryptically denied any friction exclusively to TechRadar, explaining before the show's premiere, "Taylor's got his hands all over this show. That's the only way he knows how to do things.

"Look, you're gonna go through your ups and downs, through this business, and it's about adapting. That's what we did."

Five episodes of the Yellowstone spinoff down and another star has come to Hauser's aide, claiming that there was "no disruption" while stars were on set.

'As actors, we're there to complete the task'

"Not at all," Berto Colón, who plays Miguel on Dutton Ranch, confirms when I ask if he felt as though the Chad Feehan rumors had any truth to them.

"I met Chad a bunch of times, but I don't know what the deal is. That's something that's above my pay grade. As actors, we're there to make sure that we complete a task and to make sure we complete it as truthfully as possible.

He continues, "The ongoings that happen behind the scenes is something that I'm not involved with, but as far as energy and what we did, everyone who came on board, tuned into what the story needed to be like."

"I didn't see any disruption of that process. I just love everyone there. I love what that they're about."

As Dutton Ranch season 2 hasn't been confirmed as of writing, we're yet to see which new showrunner would step into Feehan's shoes. Rumors suggest a lead writer would be picked from the job, but if you've followed my week-on-week coverage, you'll know that I'm advocating for Sheridan to resume the position himself (he's currently an executive producer).

As for a renewal, Colón says "There needs to be a continuation to this. I don't have any actual carnal knowledge of that, I just know that the numbers speak for themselves. If any show deserves a few more seasons, it's this one."

Dutton Ranch will continue airing its first nine episodes until July 3.

In the blink of an eye, the dynamics in Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch have completely changed.

Last week, episode 5 saw Rip (Cole Hauser) take on the job as foreman at rival ranch 10 Petal, ousting Chet (Hart Denton) from his temporary position.

On top of that, Beth (Kelly Reilly) propositioned Beulah (Annette Bening) to take her on as a brand manager, claiming she can turn 10 Petal into a "recession-proof household name" in the next three years.

This means the trio are now an unstable alliance, but there's clearly more behind 10 Petal than meets the eye, much of it connected to Beulah's sons, the unhinged Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) and the hitman-like Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba).

Now that Rob-Will has magically reappeared after being shipped off to an out-of-state rehab, all hell is on the cusp of breaking loose.

But according to one popular fan theory, he's not the brother that we need to be watching out for — because Joaquin could connect us straight to the cartel we've already seen in Landman.

Dutton Ranch and Landman could be linked by the Texas cartel if there's a 'bigger villain' than Beulah

Up until episode 5, it's seemed as though Beulah was the only "big bad" in Dutton Ranch, but now that her defences appear to have been weakened, that's clearly not the case.

Combine this with the trouble Rob-Will has got in by allegedly "fiddling" the ranch's books and how cagey Joaquin is being about protecting the business at all costs, and there must be bigger trouble afoot.

Most of this seems to be surrounding money, steering us to the logical conclusion that the cartel will be after 10 Petal directly if they continue to sink into decline.

Why the cartel? Well, Taylor Sheridan has already introduced them to Texas in Landman.

When we first meet Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) in season 1, he's being held against his will by a bunch of shady guys until they agree to ransom terms. With Tommy's life continuously in a precarious position, the threat of something bad happening never goes away.

So if the theories ares right, and episodes 6-9 of Dutton Ranch reveal that Beulah is hiding bigger secrets than we've realized, is a Landman crossover possible?

As ever with hit Taylor Sheridan shows, anything is possible... and I wouldn't be surprised if we see some minor Landman characters pop in to say hello, at the very least.

Just when I thought that the Dutton Ranch drama was settling down, another curveball came out of nowhere. In episode 5, that's Rip (Cole Hauser) taking on the job as foreman at rival ranch 10 Petal, ousting Chet (Hart Denton) out of his temporary position.

But by the end of the episode, the Duttons had doubled-down on their ties to the Jackson family. We saw Beth (Kelly Reilly) proposition Beulah (Annette Bening) to take her on as a brand manager, claiming that she can turn 10 Petal into a "recession-proof household name" in the next three years.

For now, at least, it seems as if the trio are working as one. But as Beulah tells son Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) later, she thinks having both Rip and Beth onboard will be useful. "They have secrets, and I've learned that people who have secrets can be useful," she points out.

So we can't quite call this an alliance just yet, as ulterior motives are bubbling under the surface. We could say that that is an act of desperation from Beth and Rip, losing all their cattle to foot and mouth disease for the first time since leaving Yellowstone.

But what if we've been looking at this — and the diseased bull the pair bought at the episode 2 cattle auction — the wrong way? What if it's inevitable that Dutton Ranch and 10 Petal are set to merge into one on the Paramount+ show, and the clues have been under our noses the entire time?

Dutton Ranch's diseased bull might have been meant for Beulah all along — and a proper alliance is coming

Up until now, my theory has been that the diseased bull was planted at the cattle auction by Beulah. She was in a bidding war with Rip until she pulled out at the last minute, which implied that Beulah knew something that Rip didn't.

But what if she genuinely didn't want to go over $10,000 and Rip was actually the fall guy for something not meant for him?

"I just realised the Diseased Bull was wasn't meant for Dutton Ranch... it was for 10 Petal," one Reddit thread reads. Whoever forged the bull documents wanting to do biological warfare didn't expect Beth to outbid Beulah."

This argument makes total sense. Beulah has a lot of enemies in Rio Paloma, and Rob-Will's (Jai Courtney) behaviour is only making family relations worse. This could be linked back to the wife of dead rancher Wes (Nakoa DeCoite), who was killed at Rob-Will's hands.

On top of this, Beulah is clearly starting to wear down. Exhausted and taking on more than she can control, she's arguably an easy target in a vulnerable state.

Another fan adds, "I reckon there's a chance that Beulah and Beth will end up on the same side, possibly in the season finale. There's a reason that they brought Rob-Will back in the latest episode and I think it connects to a bigger common enemy that will reveal itself in time. Given that the 10P cattle is of Mexican origin, the bigger threat might be a cartel."

"Both women seem to have an affinity for each other despite their hostility and it may turn out to be a good thing that instead of the typical main character against another one," a third weighs in. "Maybe they do actually team up against someone else which would be an exciting and ‘unpredictable’ change."

Personally, I don't hate this change in direction. There's clearly similarities between Beth and Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), so perhaps the two families coming together could benefit them... and us.

We're halfway through Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch, and fan opinion is strong. Personally, I think episode 5 proved that things are only just beginning to heat up. After losing all of their cattle to foot and mouth disease, Rip has taken a job as rival ranch 10 Petal's foreman, working directly with Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening).

If that wasn't enough, Beth has also asked Beulah to hire her, claiming that she can turn 10 Petal into a "recession-proof household name" in the next three years.

The good news is that we're moving on from the brutal and bleak culling that was Dutton Ranch episode 4. The bad news? the road to redemption for Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) isn't exactly straightforward.

Last week on the Yellowstone spinoff, the pair had to kill all of their cattle after the bull they bought at auction in episode 2 was found to be diseased with foot and mouth. It was as grim to watch as it is to read, and it effectively leaves Beth and Rip with nothing but acres of empty land.

Elsewhere, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) has effectively been put on house arrest by Beulah (Annette Bening), and is unable to go anywhere without a chaperone. On top of that, Beulah is trying to rekindle a past romance with Everett (Ed Harris), which he surprisingly seems open to.

This week, however, an unexpected truce is about to be formed in episode 5 (now on Paramount+) that could change the shape of Dutton Ranch as we know it.

Rip and Beulah broker a foreman deal for 10 Petal Ranch

Episode 5 begins with Everett bringing Rip to meet Beulah. She's apparently asked to see him, though son Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) seems surprised to see the pair turn up relatively unannounced.

In her office, Rip explains that he's been told everything about 10 Petal ranch's problems now that stand-in foreman Chet (Hart Denton) is at the helm. Having worked for John Dutton for 25 years at Yellowstone, he's neither fazed by the idea of helping nor the size of the land.

Beulah says that there's no better endorsement in the country than John Dutton, claiming that she needs someone who works her land and boys efficiently and quietly. "People in Rio Paloma love to gossip," she adds, unaware that Rip already knows about dead rancher Wes (Nakoa DeCoite) from episode 1.

Rip starts work the next morning, which goes down with Chet like a sack of spuds. While he routinely complains that jobs he "was getting to" are now being done immediately, the other ranchers have no problem defaulting to Rip's status.

Beth starts to hatch a plan

Beth, meanwhile, isn't exactly thrilled that Rip has found work at 10 Petal. She instead offers to find work in Dallas or New York, to which Rip refuses. She has a heart-to-heart with Zachariah (Marc Menchaca), admitting that John would have "loved" him.

She's got a plan to get Dutton Ranch back on track, but it's a thin one. Pouring over printouts and articles online, she seems to be digging dirt on what has happened to local land over the past few decades... and some of that might be Beulah's.

Rip digs up dirt on Wes as Chet gets fired

Once Rip brings the ranchers back to base, Chet is told to "get your paycheck and get the f**k out of here." None of the other boys stand up for him, which causes Chet to leave in a blaze of fury, slamming the door behind him on his way out.

Rip takes some time out to talk to Austin (Sterlin English), who Chet beat to a bloody pulp in episode 3. He asks who Wes is, with Austin repeating the agreed line among 10 Petal that he suddenly took off in the night. Austin also reveals that Wes' wife and child have also disappeared.

Carter gets arrested after Dwight dies in a police raid

Meanwhile, Carter has been spending more time with drunk local Dwight (Ray McKinnon), working his land and learning how to do odd jobs. He invites Oreana over to see the illegally kept leopard on Dwight's property (apologies to anyone who read my episode 4 recap... I don't know how you can forget an exotic animal knocking about in Texas).

The pair have beers, but just as Oreana gets going, her chaperone whisks her away. "That woman is gonna break your heart into 1000 pieces, and it's gonna be the best feeling you've ever had," Dwight tells Carter, which feels like a premonition of things to come.

Later on in the episode, Carter is changing a light bulb in the barn when the police suddenly storm the property. Dwight tells Carter that he'll be okay, but makes a run for it. By the time Carter catches up with him, the police have opened fire, killing Dwight.

Carter is arrested by the same officer who threatened him in episode 3, and is taken to the station. There, he's told that Dwight was a shady guy, known for thieving and owing a lot of people a lot of money.

When Carter replies that it wasn't a reason to kill him, the officer makes a thinly-veiled threat — smart boys don't ask dumb questions, and if Carter is smart, he can leave.

Carter calls Oreana for a ride, who picks him up on the side of the road.

Beth offers Beulah an unexpected deal as Rob-Will returns

Unaware that Carter is in trouble, Beth heads to Beulah's house. Rip hasn't come home for dinner as he's been goaded into sharing a feast with Beulah herself, but that's not why Beth wants to see her.

Over whisky, the pair discuss how best to preserve legacy, and how Beulah is coping with keeping a calm head while managing a 200-year-old cattle empire. There's an unusual amount of compliments thrown around until Beth gets to the crux of her point.

Having unearthed reports of 10 Petal land being stolen and surviving a drought that left finances in bad shape (remember those printouts?) Beth says she knows that the ranch is at breaking point. Money is non-existent, and they need to rebrand in order to "survive or die."

Beth's offer? Hire her as a brand manager, and she can turn 10 Petal into a "recession-proof household name," within the next three years. Beulah initially doesn't agree that the ranch needs to change at all, convinced it will survive. But as she tells Joaquin later, she thinks having both Rip and Beth onboard will be useful. "They have secrets, and I've learned that people who have secrets can be useful," she points out.

Elsewhere, Chet is relaxing with a female friend at home when he gets a knock on the door. It's Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), who is supposed to be in rehab. The two conspire to get back to where they want to be... at any cost.

First there was The Big Bang Theory, then there was Young Sheldon. Now, we have HBO Max spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe to look forward to in late July, and shortly after that, the return of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage for season 3.

Making a spinoff of a spinoff feels like a very Sheldon Cooper thing to do, and after Young Sheldon season 7, it was certainly a decision that made sense. For the past two seasons, we've followed the marriage of Sheldon's older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) to accidental cougar Mandy (Emily Osment).

There might be a 12 year age gap between them, but these days, their emotions and maturity levels feel well-matched. Here's what we know about the return of the multi-cam sitcom, including when we can expect Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 3 episodes to arrive on Paramount+.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 3 release date predictions

Based on CBS' Fall 2026 lineup (which you can see below), season 3 will continue in the show's usual Thursday slot at 8pm ET. What we don't know yet is exactly when the new season will kick off, but based on past premieres, we can estimate that episodes will debut in October 2026. Episodes will then be available to stream the day after airing on Paramount+.

Again, we can expect a lengthy mid-season break before the season picks back up in early 2027.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 3 trailer: is there one?

Not yet, but we should expect to see some kind of teaser in the next few months. I'd guess that a full series trailer will be released in September 2026.
