• Apple has raised prices across multiple categories in Australia
• The MacBook Neo has lost some of its entry-level appeal
• The move follows rising RAM and storage costs

Australian shoppers looking for EOFY offers, or waiting for early Amazon Prime Day tech deals, now have another price shift to factor in. Apple has raised local prices across several major product categories, including the new MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, iPad range, Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini and more.

The timing is awkward, but it also hasn't come from nowhere. Apple has usually been better than most tech companies at absorbing supply chain pressure before it reaches shoppers, though the current RAM and component crunch has been dragging on for long enough to change that calculation.

The warning signs came last month, when Tim Cook flagged "significantly higher memory costs" on an earnings call, then said RAM prices would "drive an increasing impact" on Apple products from this month.

Australian buyers will feel this

One of the clearest examples is the new MacBook Neo, Apple's lower-cost MacBook model and the machine most likely to appeal to students, or anyone trying to get a new Apple laptop for less than MacBook Air money. In Australia it launched with a price from AU$899. It now starts at AU$1,049, so it has lost some of its entry-level appeal.

Sure, it’s still Apple's cheapest laptop, but the higher starting price makes it less competitive against Windows laptops that have been fighting to compete with the Neo. The 512GB model with Touch ID has also gone from AU$1,099 to AU$1,249.

The MacBook Air has lost some of its competitive edge, and the 13-inch model with the M5 chip (check out our MacBook Air 13-inch M5 review) has jumped from AU$1,799 to AU$2,099 to start.

The 15-inch model is up by the same AU$300 amount, from AU$2,199 to AU$2,499. For a laptop that often sits in the middle of Apple's consumer Mac range, that is a significant hit to its value proposition.

The MacBook Pro increases are especially notable in some configurations. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 now starts at AU$3,199, up from AU$2,699, and the higher-end M5 Max models have also moved up by several hundred dollars. Buyers looking at extra memory or storage were already dealing with expensive upgrades, so the higher base prices only make that decision harder.

The Mac mini is another notable hit. It has gone from AU$999 to AU$1,299, which is a 30% increase on a machine that has often been one of the easier Apple desktops to justify on price.

The iPad range is up, which matters for students, families and anyone who was looking at a new tablet for work, study, travel or general use. The 11-inch iPad Air now starts at AU$1,249, up from AU$999, while the standard iPad, iPad mini and iPad Pro models have also increased.

The rises are not limited to Macs and iPads. HomePod mini has gone from AU$149 to AU$199, HomePod is up from AU$479 to AU$549, and Apple TV 4K has jumped from AU$219 to AU$299. Vision Pro was already a niche product at AU$5,999, and the new AU$6,299 starting price certainly does not broaden its appeal.

Apple's iPhone lineup, Apple Watch and AirPods appear to have avoided this round of increases at least. That helps limit the pain for some buyers, but it doesn’t change the issue for anyone who was waiting to buy a Mac, iPad or other Apple device.

Aussie price changes

Of course, Apple is not the only company dealing with higher memory and storage costs, but the scale of these changes is still pretty notable. Price rises across one or two products are easy enough to explain. Price rises across most of Apple’s range are not something that’s easily avoided.

An Apple spokesperson said: “The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac. We know this is not welcome news, and we are working tirelessly to find solutions.”

The main question is whether the Australian prices come back down if the RAM shortage eases, or whether these higher starting points become normal. We are hopeful, but Apple hasn’t promised a reversal.

For now, local retailers may be worth checking more closely, especially if older stock or short-term deal pricing remains available during EOFY and early Prime Day sales periods.

Cape Fear continues to fascinate and freak out Apple TV subscribers, with the adaptation of the iconic story getting more tense by the day as the Bowdens continue to be terrorized by Max Cady.

Sugar season 2 has arrived on Apple TV after a two-year break. The first episode is streaming now, but you'll have to wait a week for the next one to drop.

Fortunately, there's a lot of great crime shows to tide you over until then. If you can't get enough of the genre, I've picked out three of my favorites that are widely available to stream on Apple TV, and you can even binge-watch if that's your thing.

Presumed Innocent

David E. Kelley is on a roll with Apple TV shows, as he's the genius behind recent comedy hit Margo's Got Money Troubles. If you haven't seen Presumed Innocent yet, this is also well worth your time.

Presumed Innocent follows prosecutor Rusty (Jake Gyllenhaal), who becomes the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of his colleague and secret mistress, Carolyn (Backrooms' Renate Reinsve). This legal drama is deliciously addictive, and it's very easy to get sucked in as you uncover the truth about what really happened.

Criminal Record

Cast: Peter Capaldi, Cush Jumbo, Zoë Wanamaker, Charlie Creed-Miles, Cathy Tyson

Criminal Record returned for season 2 just a few months ago, so now is the perfect time to catch up. This British crime drama features a brilliant cast, especially when it comes to the dynamic between the two main characters.

Clashing detectives Daniel Hegarty (Peter Capaldi) and June Lenker (Cush Jumbo) are forced to work together when an anonymous phone call draws them to an old murder case, and they must put aside their differences to see if they can solve it. Along the way, they encounter issues within their own force, including race, institutional corruption, and systemic failures, making it a thought-provoking watch.

Lady in the Lake

Cast: Natalie Portman, Moses Ingram, Y'lan Noel, Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers
Seasons: 1
Age Rating: TV-MA

Finally, Lady in the Lake is set against a 1960s Baltimore backdrop, following Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman), an investigative journalist working on an unsolved murder case. She is so invested in this that she leaves her husband and her home, hoping to become a full-time newspaper reporter.

Over the course of the series, Maddie becomes obsessed with unraveling the mystery of two separate killings: eleven-year-old Tessie Durst and a bartender named Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram). The series is based on the novel of the same name by Laura Lippman, which is also worth reading.

Sugar season 2 is here after a two-year wait, and the Apple TV series is one of the eight huge new movies and shows streaming this weekend (June 19).

If, like me, you have been eagerly awaiting John Sugar's return, you may have mixed emotions. Although it's great to be back in the sunny LA backdrop with those stunning film noir vibes, it doesn't explore the huge twist we saw in season 1.

Sugar's season 1 twist was so huge, in fact, that if you tell it to someone who has never seen the series, they'll probably laugh at you. It's quite the reveal and does not suit what we see at face value, changing the tone of the series entirely.

In season 1, episode 6, we learned that the sophisticated private detective (played brilliantly by Colin Farrell) is actually an alien disguising himself as a human. It is a plot twist that can make or break a series, as this goes from a film noir mystery to full-blown sci-fi in seconds. Mind blown.

Believe it or not, the alien reveal does work, and it made me more interested in the series as a result. So I was disappointed that Sugar season 2 does not focus on the sci-fi elements as much as it should've, disguising itself once again behind the glitz and glamor of Old Hollywood and the totally normal humans who reside there.

Had they gone harder on the sci-fi, I would have definitely rated this season higher because there is plenty to enjoy here. John Sugar continues to blend in as a human, while most of his alien race have already left Earth. There's a key reason for this, as he's looking for his missing sister Djen (Maeve Djen) and does not want to leave Earth without her.

Sugar's investigation seems legitimate enough; humans go missing all the time, so he's been able to hide his real identity... for now. But when the trail runs cold, he takes on a new case to occupy himself involving Danny Moon (Jin Ha), an up-and-coming boxer whose brother and trainer, Ji (Raymond Lee), has gone missing. Nothing like a new missing person to distract you from your own personal demons.

Sugar season 2 also features less from Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who plays Sugar's handler and confidante. As an alien herself, she has since left Earth, leaving John behind to do what he needs to. Those hoping to see more from Howell-Baptiste will be disappointed, as Ruby has much more of a backseat role this time.

I am hopeful that, if Sugar season 3 is confirmed, we will see more from Ruby and the other aliens, especially since their mission was compromised and some humans are aware of the alien existence. Sugar simply being on Earth is dangerous, which does present opportunities and threats for future episodes.

The sci-fi elements are not completely forgotten, thankfully, and we do see Sugar using his extraterrestrial powers throughout. But it's like he is trying to hide much of his true self from the audience as well as the in-universe characters. It makes sense given the slow burn of the series, but I really would have liked to see more alien stuff going on, personally.

Sugar season 2 is not quite as good as its predecessor, but I did enjoy returning to its universe after a long break. There's some escapism in the vintage aesthetic; every scene is styled and acted beautifully, but much like the fashion, it won't be to everyone's tastes.

If you liked the noir aspects more than the sci-fi ones, I certainly think you will like Sugar season 2, as it picks up with new cases and characters to learn about. The universe is crafted with care, creating a world full of secrets, no matter what planet you come from.

But you would be forgiven for wanting more, especially since season 1 has dangled that reveal in front of us only to leave us wondering. If they had balanced the Old Hollywood vibes with the sci-fi ones better, I honestly think season 2 could have been perfect.

Sugar season 2 ultimately feels like a sequence of slow, filler episodes teasing what's to come later, which isn't all bad. But it means if season 3 does not happen we will be left with more questions than answers, much like John Sugar left behind on a planet that is not his own.

House of the Dragon season 3 (HBO Max)

Just four months after our last visit to the Game of Thrones universe with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it's time to return to Westeros once more for House of the Dragon's third season.

There's a lot (dragon)riding on House of the Dragon season 3, too. With some fans suggesting its forebear wasn't as good as it could've been, and behind-the-scenes drama between showrunner Ryan Condal and Thrones overlord George R.R. Martin that wouldn't look out of place in the latter's high fantasy book franchise, the HBO Max TV Original's latest chapter really needs to deliver.

Voicemails for Isabelle (Netflix)

Another helping of Netflix rom-coms this year? Yes please. Amazingly, this one isn't based on an existing novel, meaning Voicemails for Isabelle has already set itself apart from others already released this year.

Here's the premise: when Jill (Zoey Deutch) leaves voice messages to her deceased sister telling her about her chaotic life in San Francisco, an Austin-based real estate agent Wes (Nick Robinson) begins to receive their confessions. Lo, an unexpected romance is born.

How to Make a Killing (HBO Max)

Black comedy movie How to Make a Killing is streaming on HBO Max this weekend. It was ultimately a flop and received a lot of criticism upon its initial theatrical release, including in my How to Make a Killing review, which is where I described it as a "rare misfire" for A24.

If you plan on watching it, though, How to Make a Killing centers around Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell), a man disowned by his wealthy family. Here, we watch as he fights back to claim his inheritance by picking them off one by one. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

The Agency season 2 (Paramount+)

Paramount+'s addictive spy thriller is back and reportedly better than ever. For the uninitiated: Michael Fassbender play Brandon Colby, a spy going by the pseudonym 'Martian'.

There are plenty of tense interrogations and nail-biting scenes this time around. Season 2 picks up soon after the first's dramatic finale, and sees 'Martian' feeling the pressure after becoming a double agent for MI6. Amid all that, he's trying to manage his volatile relationship with Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith), who has been imprisoned in Sudan.

So, Martian has a lot on his plate, which is good news for us at home, because it means we're all guaranteed to be on the edge of our seats. — LB

I Will Find You (Netflix)

Another Harlan Coben series landing on Netflix means that we'll be sat and locked in for the foreseeable. After Run Away melted our minds in January, I Will Find You takes the chaos and raises it with a mind-boggling child murder case.

We follow David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son, Matthew. When his ex-sister-in-law and disgraced journalist Rachel (Britt Lower) finds evidence that Matthew might still be alive, the race is on to prove David's innocence and find his son.

Expect crazy confessions and twists and turns that will leave you with whiplash... and that's just in the first episode. — JV

Your Fault: London (Prime Video)

As the latest in Prime Video's hit Your Fault movie series, the London contingent has a lot to live up to. In fact, we're picking up after the events of the previous film, with Noah (Asha Banks) and Nick (Matthew Broome) now in a full-blown relationship.

This doesn't sound too out of the ordinary... until you learn that the pair are step-siblings. Now they pursue different paths, with Nick in business and Noah at Oxford. As always, they are dealing with new relationships and secrets. Let's just hope that they're ones we can cope with. — JV

Sugar season 2 (Apple TV)

The effortlessly cool Sugar returns for season 2 of this Apple Original and I've certainly enjoyed my latest trip to this sunny LA location. It's stunning as ever with its signature retro vibe and our protagonist John Sugar (Colin Farrell) has brought more of his own personal demons along for the ride, too.

The life of a private investigator comes with a lot of stress, and Sugar is feeling it when the trail to track down his missing sister goes cold. So, he takes on another case to keep himself occupied, agreeing to help a boxer whose brother and trainer has also gone missing.

There are a lot more film noir references here and enough mystery to keep you interested. It's another win for Apple TV and an enjoyable love letter to Old Hollywood. If you've already seen Sugar season 1, check out my Sugar season 2 review for my full thoughts. — LB

Episode 3 of the new sci-fi series Star City has just landed on Apple TV, and the drama couldn't feel more different from the creators' previous space race hit, For All Mankind.

For one, it's absolutely terrifying. We've been following the Soviet Union's efforts to get the first woman on the moon in the 1960s, with Anastasia Belicova (Alice Englert) becoming the first to do so. However, it's at a cost, having taken the place of a comrade who was killed after a false confession.

Elsewhere, the head of the KGB, Lyudmilla (Anna Maxwell Martin), is capable of some hideously violent things. She's also capable of keeping secrets that could change the foundation of the entire space operation, enlisting Irina (Agnes O'Casey) to do surveillance work for her.

But it's The Chief Designer (Rhys Ifans) who is the most intriguing, and is simply referred to as... well, The Chief Designer. No first name, no surname. He's the lynchpin of the entire operation, simultaneously trying to satisfy the KGB regime and advance his crew's science with some not-so-official experiments.

So why, when even our outright villains have been given a full name, does The Chief Designer remain an enigma? Not only is this by design, but Ifans reveals that he is actually based on a real person.

'In the US, he would have been a national treasure if he was alive'

"He's based on a real person, Sergei Korolev, who was the brains behind the Russian space program," Ifans tells me. "Because he was the brains, he was kept a secret and anonymized by the state, and was referred to as The Chief Designer. Were he to be captured by the Americans, it would be the end, and when he died in real life, it was arguably the end of the Russian space program.

It's worth pointing out at this stage that Star City is an "alt-history" series, meaning that events we see depicted are not actually how they really happened. Alongside The Chief Designer not being Korolev directly, big historical moments we see throughout episodes have been changed to fit a fictional narrative.

"In the US, he would be a national treasure while he was alive, but that wasn't the case in the Soviet Union. I was really intrigued by playing someone who was achieving so much — not just for Russia, but for the world at the time.

"As someone so hidden away, it was like playing a living ghost. It was some kind of strange purgatory to inhabit. I was interested in exploring what that might do to someone's psyche. In some ways, it would be devastating not to get the applause, but in other ways, it left him alone to pursue his passion for space travel."

It remains to be seen whether The Chief Designer will have more of a fleshed-out personal story or whether his involvement in the series will be strictly science-based.

If Star City gets picked up for as many seasons as For All Mankind, this will be more likely... but if not, the man behind the mechanics may remain an enigma we'll never get to fully unwrap.

Cape Fear was one of my most anticipated Apple TV shows of 2026, but I was also worried about it. Adapting such an iconic story is no easy task, as people will always end up comparing it to the original. That said, I was impressed by Nick Antosca's take on Max Cady and the terror he unleashes on everyone around him.

To give you a quick synopsis of Cape Fear, it follows Cady, a vicious and unreformed ex-convict who gets revenge on the two attorneys who put him behind bars. That's enough to send a chill down your spine, and it requires a really strong performance to stick the landing.

Fortunately, we get that thanks to Javier Bardem. It might be bold of me to say, but his take on Max Cady is my favorite thing he has ever done, because he left me feeling utterly terrified. Truly, he is deranged in this and brings so much to the role. A good villain is more than just scary, and he has it all: charm, charisma, and even certain moments where you feel sorry for him. It is a well-rounded, chilling performance indeed.

Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson star opposite him in great supporting roles as Anna and Tom Bowden, who are living an affluent and comfortable life when we first meet them. Nice house, nice pool, no deranged convict coming after them... yet.

When that threat does start looming, you're sure to be on the edge of your seat thanks to some superb tension building.

I loved a lot about Cape Fear, but I had the chance to review six episodes, and I'm not entirely convinced it needs to be as long as 10 episodes. I'm happy to be proven wrong with a mind-blowing finale, but I did notice it was starting to suffer from some pacing issues at certain points.

There are also a few silly twists that may cause some division between viewers, and many of these seem to have been added in to keep the momentum going when things started to run out of steam. This is the main issue I have with Cape Fear; outside of that, I've been very impressed.

While not billed as a horror, it does lean into elements I know and love about the genre. I was surprised by some genuinely effective scares throughout, as well as some shocking scenes. This series does not hold back; it is just as intense as the 1991 movie, in case you had any doubts.

On top of that, it's very stylish and well filmed, especially when it comes to the more jarring moments. The series is visually stunning and has a lot of picturesque sets to offset the horrible things that happen within them. It really highlights how quickly Cady rips through this family's life and ruins the comforts they have been enjoying. According to the eerie repetition in the teaser trailer, they deserve this.

I think Cape Fear benefits from its weekly release schedule, rather than a full season drop. This is the kind of show you'll want to savor and tune in for once a week, as it may be too intense to binge all in one go. Some scenes are sure to stick with you and haunt your dreams.

Overall, it's a solid adaptation, and they've assembled a great cast to bring the story to life. It feels like another big win for Apple TV, which has already dipped its toes into horror thanks to Widow's Bay. I'm really excited to see what's next for one of the best streaming services.

If the answer is more Max Cady, I would not complain at all.

Widow's Bay star Kate O'Flynn has opened up the physical toll that the show's antepenultimate episode took on her.

Speaking exclusively to TechRadar, O'Flynn, who plays fan-favorite character Patricia, revealed that she lost her voice while shooting the Apple TV Original's eighth chapter. The reason? All of the screaming she did as part of the series' latest entry.

With Tom and Wyck seemingly bringing the island's centuries-long curse to an end in last week's installment, the pair and Patricia quietly celebrate a job well done.

Or so they think, because 'Your Baggage' reveals that Richard Warren's death hasn't brought an end to the malediction that plagues the titular town. Indeed, that's made clear via its Patricia-centric storyline, which sees O'Flynn's eccentric individual pursued by The Boogeyman. That's the serial killer who murdered numerous girls on the island years earlier, and who Patricia claims to have somehow survived her own terrifying ordeal with.

Centered around a classic horror story chase set-piece, 'Your Baggage' sees The Boogeyman relentlessly follow Patricia — at night, no less — across the eponymous settlement. And, while the entire sequence didn't take that long to shoot, it was nevertheless a physically draining experience that temporarily left its mark on O'Flynn.

"It was physically exhausting," O'Flynn said of shooting the Apple TV show's eighth episode. "I mean, it's just me running and screaming for what feels like an eternity! It actually only took two nights [to film], but I ended up losing my voice on the first night because I wasn't used to screaming so much — and that's not ideal when you've got a whole other night of screaming and talking to come."

Despite the physical exertion that this week's episode placed on O'Flynn, though, it's clear from my chat with Widow's Bay's breakout star that she clearly enjoyed the whole experience. Indeed, from acting out her own Scream-style chase scene to Patricia's 'final girl' showdown with The Boogeyman, O'Flynn had a blast shooting the buzzworthy series' latest chapter.

"I don't think I ever thought that I'd be doing my own version of a Scream chase sequence," O'Flynn told me. "It was surreal and amazing, and almost an out of body experience because I grew up watching those films and other iconic horror movies.

"And then to get a 'final girl' moment — I hadn't heard of that until I started doing press for this show — with Patricia wielding a shotgun of all things, it just felt really satisfying for Patricia specifically. She's the one who finally found her own power and becomes this badass by the end, which was very satisfying to me."

With only two more episodes of Widow's Bay left to air, it's no surprise that, amid myriad other conversations about the series' plot and ongoing mysteries, fans want to know if it'll be renewed for another season.

Widow's Bay guest star Hamish Linklater didn't give anything away when I asked him if he knew season 2 was in the works. Considering O'Flynn is a key cast member, though, surely showrunner Katie Dippold had privately told her that Apple had greenlit another 10-part installment?

"My lips are sealed," O'Flynn responded when I pressed her on the topic. "What I will say is, as Patricia, I would happily continue to live and play in this weird and wonderful world because I love working with everyone on the show."

Don't you just love the fact that The Chief Designer (Rhys Ifans) doesn't actually have a name? In Star City, only one thing matters... Soviet Union space domination.

As expected, no cost is too high in order to achieve that. Anastasia Belicova (Alice Englert) has become the first woman on the moon, but her colleagues resent her for taking the place of a comrade who was killed after a false confession.

This is all thanks to head of the KGB Lyudmilla (Anna Maxwell Martin), who is capable of some hideously violent things. She's also capable of keeping secrets that could change the foundation of the entire space operation, enlisting Irina (Agnes O'Casey) to do surveillance work for her.

Earlier this week I wrote about Star City, which is the latest sci-fi series to hit Apple TV, and which is created by the same team behind juggernaut For All Mankind — although the team insists that it's not "a companion piece."

Even so, there are still a lot of similarities. Both have clear time jumps, both are set in alternative versions of the past, and both obviously have a link to space travel, with both having a particular focus on the Soviet Union's involvement in the space race.

While Star City is set to tell its story with a 1970s spy-thriller feel, creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert explained that much of what they learned about filming space — or at least making it look real — came from their experience on For All Mankind.

So does this include the use of AI and deepfakes that the original sci-fi series has become so known for? It's unclear... but I have a hunch that as episodes progress over the next few months, the answer will be yes.

'The challenge is always making it feel real'

"We became experts because of For All Mankind," Nevidi beings. "Learning it was difficult during those first few seasons. But now I feel like you become the experts in how to capture space and zero G. The challenge always is making it feel real, like everything on the show.

"The authenticity of the sets on the ground in Russia were amazing. We wanted to make sure you didn't suddenly feel like you were in a different show when you were in space. I think capturing that in a way that is actually different to For All Mankind, was fascinating."

Wolpert adds, "These ships the Russians sent up were purposeful, but the resources they had were much more limited. It's almost like sending these tin cans up into space. Where the Americans were so careful about everything, The Soviets kind of said, 'we have to make it happen.'

"So the fact that the ingenuity involved in this, and then the risks you see these cosmonauts take in the show in these first few episodes, were very accurate to what was really happening."

What the pair has skipped over here is the use of deepfake technology in For All Mankind's visual effects to utilize AI-driven lip-syncing and facial mapping. This altered real historical footage and impersonators' faces so that historical figures deliver alternate-history speeches.

Given the series is socio-politically driven and has huge time jumps, historical reference points like this are to be expected. Star City employs exactly the same tactic, featuring televised political broadcasts during changing eras. Put two and two together, and we can assume the team also utilized deepfakes in the same way to create this.

However, this isn't confirmed at the time of writing, and we're likely to know more as episodes are released. Star City begins on May 29 with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases every Friday until July 10.

Widow's Bay star Hamish Linklater has revealed that he's just as confused as the rest of us about what's going on in the new buzzworthy Apple TV show.

Speaking exclusively to TechRadar after the comedy horror's recent double bill, Linklater opened up on how much he knows about the series' overarching mystery. He also discussed the fate of his character Richard Warren, and whether he could reprise his latest TV role if the Matthew Rhys-fronted show is renewed for another season.

If you've seen the Apple TV Original's latest entries — 'Our History' and 'Seasickness' — you'll already know that Warren doesn't make it to episode 7's end-credits crawl.

After living for over 300 years — albeit buried alive following events depicted in episode 6 — by way of the blood pact he made with the demonic entity that dwells within the island, Warren meets his maker in episode 7's final act.

Indeed, his long-overdue death comes about after the island's mayor, Tom Loftis, and one of its most superstitious residents, Wyck, take the zombified Warren beyond the boundary of the island and, subsequently, the supernatural entity's reach. Long story short — and in Linklater's own words — Warren finally becomes "just a big bunch of dust in a [coffin-shaped] box."

Despite Warren's demise, though, Linklater isn't fully convinced that this is the last we'll see of Widow's Bay's first so-called Lord Island Protector. Of course, a potential return will largely depend on whether Apple greenlights another season — something Linklater has spoken to series creator Katie Dippold about.

"I've spoken to her about what the future might be," Linklater said before dryly adding: "[But] she hasn't spoken back to me about what the future of the show will be.

"My guess is that's the end of his his [Warren's] story. But, you know, I did [FX TV show] Legion and its creators appeared to kill me off in the first episode, and clearly they ran out of story ideas, so they brought me back to life. Maybe Katie will run out of story ideas, too, and have to bring me back!"

As for the series' overarching mystery, Linklater is just like every other fan of Widow's Bay in that he has little to no idea about where things will go in this season's final three episodes, and what Dippold's grand plan is if Apple renews it for one or more seasons. That's in spite of his obvious involvement in the series, and the small but hugely significant role that Warren plays in the titular island's history.

"I don't understand what's going on," he wryly added. "Katie told me what I needed to know for my part, but I still barely understood any of it. But, she's an incredible storyteller, and Matthew Rhys is brilliantly bonkers in it, so maybe I don't need to fully grasp what's going on to enjoy it."

Widow's Bay episodes 1 to 7 are out now on Apple TV, aka one of the world's best streaming services. New chapters air weekly until the season 1 finale on June 17.

Turns out that there's a plus side to sci-fi hit For All Mankind season 5 ending on Apple TV this week. Another fictionalized take on the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, from the same creative team, is about to drop on the streamer, in the shape of Star City.

This isn't an out-and-out spinoff, however. There are a lot of similarities between the two shows, such as clear time jumps and the alternative-past setting, as well as the space travel theme.

But Star City is a lot darker in tone, and it often feels like you're watching a spy thriller... with astronauts and a lot of physics. So when does the double premiere of Star City episodes 1-2 drop on Apple TV?

May 29 is set to be both a day of grief and joy if you're a sci-fi series fan with an Apple TV subscription. On the same day that For All Mankind season 5 emotionally comes to an end, new TV show Star City picks up the reins.

But what do the two have in common? They're both the brainchildren of the same creative team. You might see space and rockets in the Star City trailer and think we're in for For All Mankind 2.0, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

With a stacked cast led by Rhys Ifans and Anna Maxwell Martin, Star City follows the space race from behind the Iron Curtain, when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.

But isn't that exactly where For All Mankind begins? Yes and no. According to creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, the two aren't even close to being sister shows.

'It's natural to compare them... we wanted something different'

"Of course, it's natural that you compare them," Nevidi tells me. "But I think for us, we were just so creatively inspired to make something that felt different, that felt like its own show.

"I think we probably wouldn't have made Star City if it was trying to be a companion piece to For All Mankind. I think we really have captured something about the sense of paranoia and the spy thriller aspect of the story. I hope people love it, because we're certainly very proud of it."

Thriller is the defining word here. Having watched the first five episodes of Star City (and loved them), not only does the show's tone feel much darker than For All Mankind, but it also doesn't feel like outright sci-fi. It's a cat-and-mouse set during the Soviet Union space race, but the actual space stuff itself feels secondary.

Don't get me wrong, though, there are still a lot of similarities. Both have clear time jumps, both are set in alternative versions of the past, and both obviously have a link to space travel. But calling Star City a direct spinoff isn't actually fair, even if Wolpert references it as one.

"For All Mankind was one of the first, if not the first, sci-fi show on Apple TV. So I feel like we're the originals. We started the trend," Wolpert adds.

"It was a wholly original idea, and now we have a spinoff of another original idea with an original idea. So it's something I think we're particularly proud of. I think Star City adds to Apple's sci-fi canon."

The Bride!, Maggie Gyllenhaal's divisive Frankenstein-inspired movie that I attempted to defend in my impassioned piece, is out now on HBO Max.

Those wanting a loyal adaptation of Mary Shelley's work won't find it here, but you will find an intriguing gothic romance set against a 1930s Chicago backdrop. You'll also find stellar performances from Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale. No surprises there.

The Duffer Brothers are the executive producers of this new Netflix show and, this time, we follow the residents of a retirement community rather than local kids. Although the subjects are at the opposite end of the age spectrum, the vibes are similar, with a group of unlikely heroes banding together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing time. At their age, it's a precious commodity indeed.

With a great cast comprising Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, and Jena Malone, this could be the perfect show to binge. — LB

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War (Prime Video)

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, one of Prime Video's most underrated shows, has finally made its way from the small screen to the big screen, in the form of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War. John Krasinski resumes the titular role... but this time, he's heading across the pond.

Indeed, we see Jack reunite with CIA operatives to navigate betrayal from an enemy who "knows their moves and faces a past once thought settled," as Amazon explains. In short, expect big action on an international scale.

What I particularly like here is that Ghost War is very subtly bringing back the 'Cool Britannia' aesthetic by casting Sienna Miller as its leading lady. Why did we have to stop doing that in the 2010s? — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (Apple TV)

Apple has been on a TV show-based tear recently. Indeed, from Margo's Got Money Troubles to Widow's Bay, the tech giant's streaming platform has been my go-to for small-screen offerings over the last few months.

Its latest TV Original — Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed — looks like it'll keep me glued to Apple TV, too. Billed as a dark comedy crime-thriller, it stars Tatiana Maslany as Paula, a divorced fact checker and mom of one who gets caught up in a web of lies and murder after she's blackmailed by a camboy.

Truthfully, I'll watch anything that the supremely talented Maslany is in. But, with Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed launching to near-universally positive reviews, I'll be even more locked in to a Maslany-led project than usual. — TP

Is This Thing On? (Disney+)

I first saw Is This Thing On? last October, and I'm still laughing at the fact that it's inspired by the life of UK comedian John Bishop.

Will Arnett plays fictional comic Alex, whose marriage to Tess (Laura Dern) is unravelling by the minute. After they separate, Alex seeks a purpose on the New York comedy scene, and discovers that he's actually pretty darn good at it. But, can he repair his broken marriage at the same time?

It's wholesome, touching, and makes you believe in the power of love all over again. And I'd like this stated on the record — Bradley Cooper is a brilliant director, no matter what you think of him. Regardless, it's out now on Disney+ internationally following its debut on Hulu stateside earlier this year. — JV

The Chi final season (Paramount+)

It's been eight years since The Chi first arrived on our screens via Paramount+, but now it's sadly time to say goodbye. This coming-of-age drama follows a diverse ensemble of characters who are trauma-bonded by the murder of a young boy in season 1.

Fast forward to season 8, and we can expect to face "their coldest winter ever, with life or death choices that must be made," according to Paramount. With season 7 ending with every storyline having some sort of dramatic fallout, we can expect the stakes to be raised even higher for its final outing. — JV

Arco (Hulu)

Neon's latest animated movie Arco follows a 10-year-old boy in the year 2932, an idyllic future where humans live in the clouds and travel through time using rainbow flight suits. Sounds pretty cool, not going to lie.

Sadly for Arco, he's too young to fly, so he does what any mischievous child would do: steals his sister's suit so he can go back in time and see dinosaurs. But, when he discovers a world in peril instead, he bands together with a young girl and her robot caretaker as he sets out on a quest to return home.

Widely praised for its lovable characters and themes, this adventure movie is a great choice for the whole family to watch on Hulu. — LB

Full spoilers follow for Margo's Got Money Troubles.

I can't believe that season 1 of Apple TV's brilliant new comedy has already ended. I've been glued to my screen following Elle Fanning's performance as Margo Millet, a single mother and college dropout trying to provide for her new baby, Bodhi, by setting up an OnlyFans account.

In my review of the series, I called it "addictive and surprisingly heartfelt", and the season finale only proves my point further. I'm very relieved that Margo's Got Money Troubles is coming back for season 2.

For the past few weeks, we've watched Margo struggle after an affair with her college professor, Mark Gable (Michael Angarano), who dropped her the moment he found out she was pregnant. Each week, I was disgusted at just how low Mark would go, especially when he made complaints that Margo was an "unfit mother" and wanted full custody of a child he barely acknowledged existed. You have to admit, Angarano plays a fantastic slimy character here.

So, with this in mind, how did the inevitable court case go? And what was up with that shocking betrayal in the final moments of the episode? Here's everything you need to know about the Margo's Got Money Troubles season finale.

Who won the custody battle for Bodhi?

Baby Bodhi found himself in the middle of an intense custody battle between Margo and Mark, with the latter pushed to gain full custody of his son by his overbearing mother, Elizabeth. Using Margo's sex work and complicated family dynamics against her, Margo was met with numerous challenges where she had to prove she was taking good care of her son.

Despite setbacks like her father Jinx (Nick Offerman) relapsing, her mother Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer) breaking Elizabeth's jaw, and having Child Protective Services (CPS) called on her, Margo won the custody battle. However, it's not an idealistic outcome at all, which sets up some serious drama for season 2.

The terrifying Superior Court judge has plenty of opinions about everyone involved, immediately launching into an incredulous attack on Mark for impregnating his student, making it laughable that he'd want the moral high ground here (an incredibly satisfying moment, I must say). The judge, highly strung as he is, does make fair comments about everyone involved because this is a messy scenario indeed.

Ultimately, he rules that Margo should have primary custody, but Bodhi should know his biological father, and will get to do so two weekends a month. It's debatable if this is an entirely happy outcome, but Margo seems glad to properly introduce Bodhi to Mark, who insists he's a good father, so it's good for now, and everyone celebrates.

I'm definitely expecting this decision to create some issues in season 2, now that Mark is in the picture. I still don't trust the guy, but hey, he has the chance to prove us all wrong. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Who called CPS on Margo?

Now, this is a shocking one. We all assumed it was Mark, and I think we can be forgiven for that, given how he stopped at nothing to try to take down Margo before he was pacified in court. Or maybe you thought it was Elizabeth, who has resented Margo from day one for "catfishing" her son, as she puts it. It turns out the call came from someone much closer to Margo: a member of her own family.

But Shyanne's new husband, Kenny (Greg Kinnear), comes forward and admits that he called CPS after he learned of Jinx's relapse. He accuses Shyanne of loving both Jinx and Margo too much, so she would never have had the strength to do it.

Naturally, Shyanne is furious that Kenny would do this behind her back. We've left the couple in a very awkward, strained position for now, and I must admit I don't have a lot of hope for their relatively new marriage. They already seemed like two different people, because Kenny is a deeply religious man, which clashes with Shyanne's lifestyle.

I can't see this ending well, but it does seem like Shyanne is trying to cling to happiness and a fresh romance after being betrayed by Jinx. Nobody in this family can catch a break, honestly.

What's next for Margo's career?

Despite everything she's gone through, Margo is not letting anyone stop her. We've seen her online presence grow to new highs thanks to her two new friends, KC (Rico Nasty) and Rose (Lindsey Normington), and her long-supportive roommate Susie (Thaddea Graham).

We've followed the highs and lows of Margo's journey into adult content creation, and when we last saw her, she was preparing to take things to the next level. She is far more confident than earlier in the series, and we'll be following her progress throughout season 2, even if we have no idea about the plot details yet.

Season 1 ended on a positive note, with things seeming to calm down for Margo. But knowing this show, that won't last very long, and I'm super excited to see what happens next.

News that Margo's Got Money Troubles has been renewed for season 2 made my week. In my review, I described it as "addictive and surprisingly heartfelt," and I can't wait for more episodes to arrive.

Apple TV confirmed the renewal via social media, where they wrote: "Thanks for being a fan. Margo’s Got Money Troubles has been renewed for Season 2" alongside a clip from the show where Margo receives her first OnlyFans follower.

Throughout the course of season 1, we followed Margo as a single mom, turning to OnlyFans to support herself and her son as she struggled to make ends meet. Season 2 will expand on this catalyst, but we don't have a confirmed release date or plot yet.

Still, Margo fans everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief knowing she'll be back for more, especially since it's the season 1 finale next week. How time flies. I'm not ready to say goodbye to this show, and I've been recommending it to everyone I know.

Why you should watch Margo's Got Money Troubles

Apple TV shows have been exceptionally good recently. We've had the likes of Severance, Pluribus, and Widow's Bay all making headlines for very good reasons, and Margo's Got Money Troubles has just followed in their footsteps. The quality of the show is great, from the casting to the set design and the lovable characters we tune in to watch each week.

Not only are they lovable, they're also deeply flawed. What's billed as a comedy certainly has some dark moments, with the two moods perfectly balanced throughout the series. Margo's decision to keep her baby after an affair with her professor is an emotional one, and we're rooting for her despite the numerous obstacles she faces. It's one of Elle Fanning's best performances yet.

Margo's parents, Shyanne and Jinx, played brilliantly by Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman, are a perfect supporting cast. Shyanne had Margo when she was young and worries for her daughter's future, and Jinx is back in her life after being an absent father for many years. This complex family dynamic is at the heart of the show and keeps things interesting, as they often clash and disagree.

This show had me hooked from episode one, and I really do think it deserves all the praise it's been receiving. I can't wait for more.

Disavowed is an exciting new Apple TV series, and as soon as I saw the news, I knew Paradise fans would be all over this. We've already seen James Marsden as the President in the hit Hulu thriller, and now he's switching sides to play a CIA agent.

In Disavowed, Marsden will play a legendary CIA Case Officer, Brad Griffin, who finds himself abruptly fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague, which derails his plans to take him down.

Now disgraced and outcast from the world of intelligence, Brad takes a huge risk and decides to go after the 15 million dollar federal bounty on the assassin’s head. This premise alone has got me hooked.

What else do we know about Disavowed?

Disavowed is created by Uncharted's Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, based on an original concept by them. Marsden will also be executive producing, so he has a lot of involvement in the series.

Right now, beyond the initial synopsis, we don't know when the series is set to air or any further details about it. But my initial reaction is that it'll be one to watch. Marsden recently starred in Apple TV's Your Friends and Neighbors alongside Jon Hamm, too, so he's already been in a popular show for one of the best streaming services.

So far, so good. Even though there's not a lot of information out there, as someone who adored the thrills of Paradise, I'm looking forward to following Marsden again as he takes on another intriguing role that's different from President Cal Bradford.

I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting for a teaser trailer.

Cape Fear just got a horrifying new trailer, with the Apple TV series grabbing my full attention well ahead of its release on June 5.

Back in March, fans praised Javier Bardem's first look as villain Max Cady, and if you thought the teaser trailer was creepy, just wait until you see this one. The full trailer doesn't hold back and teases some of the sinister things Cady gets up to throughout the series.

Fresh out of prison, he's seeking revenge on the public defenders who hid evidence from him that would have changed his case. Turns out they messed with the wrong guy, and I've got chills.

What do we know about Apple TV's Cape Fear?

Cape Fear centers on Anna and Tom Bowden, two attorneys who find themselves being tormented by a man they hid evidence from. Fresh out of prison, he'll stop at nothing to get his revenge on those who ruined his life.

The series stars Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, CCH Pounder, and Javier Bardem in the leading roles, with a great supporting cast including Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, and Anna Baryshnikov.

Nick Antosca is the creator of the new Apple TV series with original Cape Fear director Martin Scorsese executive producing alongside Steven Spielberg. So, honestly, it could not be in better hands.

Apple TV has been diving into darker content recently, especially with the release of the horror-comedy series Widow's Bay being so successful. Hopefully, Cape Fear will follow in its footsteps and join our best Apple TV shows roundup.

May 2026 has arrived, but the fifth month of the year hasn't exploded out of the gate when it comes to new streaming releases.

Indeed, new movies and shows are at a real premium on the world's best streaming services this weekend. In fact, we're scraping the barrel so much, we've had to include an MGM+ TV series that originally debuted on a lesser known streamer called Network. You would think they'd space out their latest film and TV offerings to give us more to choose from...

Wuthering Heights (HBO Max)

Apple TV sure loves its genre mash-up projects, and this new dark comedy horror show is no exception.

Widow's Bay follows Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), the recently elected mayor of the titular island town who has big ambitions on turning Widow's Bay into the next big US tourist attraction. The only things standing in his way are its eccentric locals, outdated infrastructure... oh, and myriad supernatural entities that inhabit this supposedly cursed settlement.

Man on Fire (Netflix)

Wonder Man's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars in this new Netflix action show, which is based on its book namesake. In it, he plays John Creasy, a former a Special Forces mercenary with PTSD now trying to live a simpler life.

It's not quite that simple, though, as his attempts at a fresh start are rudely interrupted by a need for revenge. You know how it goes with shows like this! The House of the Spirits (Prime Video)

Prime Video is priding itself of Spanish language drama The House of the Spirits, which is based on Isabel Allende’s International best-selling novel.

The eight-episode family saga spans half a century, centring on three generations of women — Clara (Dolores Fonzi), Blanca (Fernanda Urrejola), and Alba (Rochi Hernández) — in a conservative South American country shaped by class struggle, political upheaval, and magic.

Netflix tends to play down its animation releases, but when they appear, they're almost always an underrated banger.

Swapped is no exception, following a small woodland creature and a majestic bird who magically trade places and set off on an adventure of a lifetime. Think Freaky Friday, but for two natural sworn enemies of their wildlife Valley.

There's no human or tech element here, so don't worry about it being a direct Hoppers rip off.

My Killer Father: The Green Hollow Murders (Paramount+)

This hard-hitting Paramount+ docuseries follows Lucy Studey McKiddy as she opens up about her father Donald Studey, known as 'the Monster of Green Hollow'. Horrifyingly, she claims she knows where dozens of bodies are buried from decades of his alleged murders.

Across the three episodes, she claims her father killed dozens of women, including three of his wives, and forced her and her siblings to help dispose of the bodies in an old well on their remote property. Expect it to send shivers down your spine this weekend. — LB

The Artist (MGM+)

I love a murder mystery, don't you? They're even better when there's a stacked cast and you'll certainly find that with The Artist.

Indeed, Patti LuPone, Hank Azaria, Mandy Patinkin, Danny Huston, Chris Jehnert, Zachary Quinto, Anni Krueger, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Regina Ohashi, Katherine O’Sullivan, and Gemma Mcllhenny all star in this intriguing new series as suspects.

Here, an eccentric tycoon and his wife host a gathering of the era’s biggest celebrities including Thomas Edison, Edgar Degas, and Evelyn Nesbit. Naturally, said gathering soon turns deadly. Get your detective hats ready for this one. — LB

Has Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 3 been announced yet?

There's nothing to report on a season 3 renewal, but that doesn't mean Apple's slice of the Monsterverse could end with this season's final chapter.

Indeed, the tech giant has already confirmed a spin-off starring Wyatt Russell's Lee Shaw is in active development. The untitled offshoot, which will be set during the Cold War, is being written and executively produced by Joby Harold, one of the creative minds behind Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

There's no word on when filming might begin, what its story will entail, or when it'll be released. Nonetheless, with this project due to air at some point, the Monsterverse will continue on the small screen even if Monarch season 3 isn't greenlit.

The multi-award winning comedy-drama, which appeared to end after three seasons in May 2023, will be back before the 2026/27 English Premier League (EPL) season kicks off later in August. And, to whet our appetite for the hugely popular show's return, Apple has debuted the first footage from Ted Lasso's highly anticipated return.

Set to Mumford & Sons' Rubber Band Man, the Apple TV teaser reminds us that season 4 will see Ted return to AFC Richmond to coach its women's team.

He'll be joined by plenty of familiar faces as he looks to work his magic in his new role, too, including Hannah Waddingham's Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple's Keeley Jones, and Brendan Hunt's Coach Beard. Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent and Jeremy Swift's Leslie Higgins are also part of proceedings, although it's unclear how involved they'll be in the wider narrative.

As for those who've joined the cast, Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack (Waiting for the Out), Faye Marsey (Andor), Rex Hayes (The Pact), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Abbie Hern (Peaky Blinders) will portray prominent members of the Greyhounds' female squad. However, there's still nothing to report on characters they'll be playing.

Story-wise, here's the official blurb for the critically-acclaimed Apple TV Original's next installment: "In season four, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."

Prior to season 4's official launch date reveal, Waddingham had all but confirmed that Ted Lasso season 4 would arrive in August. Before she did, Apple had only announced that Ted Lasso 4 would come out sometime in mid-2026. As I mentioned, though, with the next EPL season due to begin in late August, it was inevitable — at least to me, anyway — that the Jason Sudeikis-fronted program would drop sometime that month.

Even though Timothée Chalamet missed out on this yea's Best Actor Academy Award, Marty Supreme remains one of the best movies of 2025. In the sports drama that's out now on HBO Max, Chalamet plays table tennis player Marty Mauser and his ruthless, high-stakes rise to become a world champion.

Josh Safdie's latest feature is like bottled lightning, moving at an electric pace with a sense of dynamism that's never lost through its 149 minute runtime. Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton lead the cast of this new survival thriller, which stands out among its genre peers because the antagonist here is very much human. Is that scarier than a wild animal? You decide.

Here, Egerton plays scary local man Ben, who's hellbent on hunting down Theron's Sasha, a rock climber who wanted to push herself to the limits in the Australian wilderness following a traumatic period in her life.

Criminal Record season 2 (Apple TV)

Apple TV's crime thriller Criminal Record is back for another round, with Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo returning as an unlikely crime-solving duo Hegarty and Lenker.

We've already been wowed by their performances as a seasoned veteran and newbie detective, and now we get to witness another dramatic case unfold while their personalities clash once more. Some things never change.

This time, a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, forcing Hegarty and Lenker into an uneasy alliance. But, what looks like a murder case soon escalates into something far bigger. I'm already on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what that is in the Apple show's latest chapter. — LB

Two years after his award-winning global smash hit Baby Reindeer, Richard Gadd is back with Half Man, which follows brothers Niall (Jamie Bell) and Ruben (Gadd) through 30 years of their lives, exploring why their relationship is so toxic.

Gadd's commitment to warts-and-all storytelling that will undoubtedly make Half Man one of the standout TV shows of 2026 (read my Half Man review to find out more). No matter what he represents to us, no matter what we already think we know, we're metaphorically punched in the gut until we can no longer bear to look. — JV

Kevin (Prime Video)

If you're a fan of adult animation, you won't want to miss Prime Video's new comedy Kevin. Jason Schwartzman voices the titular character, a neurotic tuxedo cat exploring life on his own after his owners break up.

Schwartzman is joined by a stellar voice cast including Aubrey Plaza (also the series co-creator), John Waters, Whoopi Goldberg, Addison Rae, and Amy Sedaris. Regretting You (Paramount+)

The Colleen Hoover Cinematic Universe (CHCU) expands after It Ends With Us with follow-up adaptation Regretting You. Starring McKenna Grace and Mason Thames, the movie, which is out now on Paramount+, follows a devastating accident that reveals a shocking betrayal.

It's honestly incredible how what should be a hugely traumatizing loss develops into young love, but hey, that's the magic of romcom movies. Regretting You has Hoover's signature blend of cheese and melodrama, and Grace shines throughout. — JV

Light spoilers follow for Widow's Bay episodes 1 to 6.

Apple TV is home to plenty of award-winning and praise-worthy shows, but there's one genre that the tech giant's entertainment division has so far failed to get right: horror.

It's not been for a lack of trying. The Enfield Poltergeist, Servant, and various other projects have seen Apple dip its toes into terror-filled waters before. For some reason, though, it's struggled to replicate the success it's had with its myriad alternative genre offerings.

So comes the turn of Widow's Bay, a dark comedy horror whose premise and genre mash up look and sound original enough to potentially give Apple its first horror hit. After seeing the first six episodes, I've got to give it credit for being effective at what it does — but it's not the spooky showpiece that'll convince horror devotees to sign up to the streamer.

Paranormal activity

Widow's Bay introduces us to Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), the eponymous island town's mayor who ran and won its most recent election unopposed.

A high-strung and cowardly mainlander, the ambitious Loftis sees the potential for this small, outdated settlement to become North America's next big tourist attraction.

The problem? Save for a few inhabitants, such as Loftis' emotionally repressed assistant Patricia (Kate O'Flynn), the townsfolk, including renowned oddball Wyck (Stephen Root) don't respect Loftis or want outsiders upsetting their way of life.

Winning over the locals, though, is the least of the Loftis' issues, because the titular town is believed to be cursed. Predictably, no sooner is Loftis' dream of turning Widow's Bay into a cultural hotspot on the cusp of being realized, the very myths that are too preposterous to be true soon make themselves known.

Widow's Bay's fright-filled folklore might give the impression that the horror part of its genre dyad is the dominate force at play.

Creepy, unsettling, and dingily atmospheric as it is, though, I wouldn't describe it as particularly terrifying. There are moments that had me saying "nope nope nope" to myself, and I appreciated the eeriness of its rural town setting and ability to dial up the tension where necessary. Nonetheless, for all of its jump scares — ones I'd describe as half-hearted at best — and uneasy ambience, Widow's Bay is definitely more of a dark comedy than a traditional supernatural horror.

And it's that humor, of which there is plenty, that Widow's Bay successfully hangs its hat on, especially in earlier episodes.

Spearheaded by the ever-excellent Rhys, whose bumbling, crabby, and sceptical Loftis reminded me of a modern day Basil Fawlty, aka the protagonist of iconic British sitcom Fawlty Towers, Widow's Bay is full of laugh out loud moments.

Indeed, whether it's Loftis' never-ending battles with the island port's lazy, incompetent, and/or superstitious natives, Rhys' impeccable comedic timing and delivery of sarcastic, deadpan, and cringeworthy ripostes to said individuals, and its main character's general buffoonery, I guarantee you'll crack up numerous times while watching Widow's Bay.

Sinister undercurrents

That said, Widow's Bay isn't a laughs-a-minute caper by any means. Indeed, like the supernatural entities that lurk beneath the town's surface, its eclectic cast of characters are similarly haunted by their own demons and trauma-laced pasts.

It's these character-driven storylines that give this series more of an edge than the metaphysical beings that Loftis and company come across, too.

For Loftis, it's a decades earlier heart-breaking family incident that, in the present, has bred an increasingly strained relationship with his unruly, weed-smoking teenage son Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick). In Patricia's case, it's a terrifying ordeal during her own teen years — an event we tentatively learn about in the first three episodes before it's fully reveal in soul-crushing fashion in chapter four.

Disappointingly, other members of its wonderfully weird cast — Wyck and Rosemary (Dale Dickey) being notable highlights — don't benefit from the same introspective treatment in Widow's Bay's first six entries.

That might be rectified in episodes I'm yet to see. However, apart from the Patricia-starring fourth chapter and the series' sixth episode, the latter being a flashback episode that reveals some hugely important details about why the town is cursed, Widow's Bay is sadly unconcerned with giving its quirkier individuals a episodically specific platform to shine on.

And that's a pity because, with early installments channeling a 'Monster of the Week' format not unlike legendary sci-fi shows such as The X-Files, there's certainly room for Widow's Bay to spotlight said characters by way of episodic subplots amid its overarching story.

It's missed opportunities like this, plus the apparent lack of interconnectivity between Widow's Bay's various scare-based fables, that imbalance it narratively.

Indeed, with its primary mystery taking center stage in its latter half, its aforementioned 'Monster of the Week' arrangement quickly falls by the wayside. I'll reiterate that I haven't seen passed episode 6, so this criticism may be moot if Widow's Bay ends up tying its paranormal enigmas to its main otherworldly horror in the home straight. If it turns out that there's no throughline, though, I can't help but wonder if, intriguing as each standalone ghost story, why it was necessary to include them unless Widow's Bay was developed as an anthology series instead.

Less of a critique and more an observation are the clear parallels between Widow's Bay and similar new weird programs, such as Prime Video's Outer Range, CBS' The Twilight Zone, and Apple's very own Severance. Fans of one or more of these shows, then, will find Widow's Bay to be right up their alley — as will devotees of Stephen King and John Carpener, albeit through Widow's Bay's somewhat on-the-nose references to their body of works.

Above all others, though, it's hard to overlook the influence that cult classic TV show Twin Peaks has exerted on Widow's Bay.

Indeed, there's no denying that the new Apple TV show was heavily inspired by Twin Peaks' surrealist mystery horror leanings. Set in a small town frozen in time? Yep. A story filled with supernatural elements and dark secrets? Check. Populated with zany, morally gray characters? Absolutely. Offbeat humor? You bet.

That's not necessarily a bad thing — after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so it's no surprise to see Widow's Bay compared to one of David Lynch's most memorable works. Nonetheless, despite their clear similarities, suggesting that it's Apple's answer to Twin Peaks is, ahead of Widow's Bay's release and accounting for how revered Twin Peaks is, something of an exaggeration.

My verdict

As an overall experience, I've enjoyed my time in Widow's Bay so far, and I look forward to the rest of my stay and seeing not only how its final four episodes wraps up its story, but also if they address some or all of the problems I've outlined above.

Even if they don't fix its clear issues, though, Widow's Bay is the first recommendation-worthy horror show that Apple TV has to offer. If the tech giant can refine the development process of such genre works in the same way it did with, say, its sci-fi offerings, there's no reason why it can't become a regular *ahem* haunt for those who prefer their stories to be as dread-inducing and frightening as possible.

Widow's Bay will launch on Apple TV with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, April 29. New episodes air weekly after that on one of the world's best streaming services.

The first trailer for Star City — a new Apple TV sci-fi series from the creators of For All Mankind — has arrived, giving us our first look at the "alt-history" of the space race. According to the streamer, the series will "explore the space race from behind the iron curtain, when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon, from May 29."

The cast is lead by Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey and Alice Englert, and in the first trailer (which you can catch up with below) we see a traitor is in their midst, with an unknown source leaking military secrets out of their Star City base.

Compared to For All Mankind, Apple TV's alternative take on real history is a whole lot darker... and that's a good thing.

Star City on Apple TV turns the space race into a 'paranoid, propulsive thriller'

There's no doubting from the above trailer that Star City is technically fiction, but it's perhaps more linked to real-world events than we realize. For a start, the show's title alludes to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia, which had the same nickname.

As Apple TV goes onto explain, “Star City is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.

"But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward."

While For All Mankind isn't exactly a bundle of joy when it comes to imagining the inner workings of space science (especially if you've been watching season 5), the cold color grading and eerie visuals in the above Star City trailer indicate something much more sinister is afoot.

Either way, I'm sat — not least because I know from Line of Duty and Steal how incredibly well Anna Maxwell Martin plays an vicious, aloof villain.

The eight-episode series will debut globally on Apple TV with two episodes on May 29, followed by one new episode every week through July 10.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 will soon draw to a close. Indeed, only two more episodes remain before, like Godzilla, the show will go back into hibernation until a third season is inevitably greenlit.

This Is It is undoubtedly the big kahuna of Michael Jackson documentaries, mostly because it's some of the last-ever footage we have of the star.

Let's set the scene. It's summer 2009, and Jackson was set to stage a spectacular comeback at London's O2 arena. But just weeks before it was set to happen, he died.

The documentary, directed by the man who was set to choreograph the highly anticipated gig, "offers a look at preparations for the shows and provides a revealing portrait of the man behind the controversy."

Michael Jackson: The Trial (2026)

Featuring previously unheard audio and exclusive interviews, it's one of our two most recent documentaries in the list, having only been released in February 2026.

Michael Jackson: An American Tragedy (2026)

Where The Trial covers 2005, and This Is It covers 2009, Michael Jackson: An American Tragedy covers the time in between.

After being cleared of further abuse allegations, Jackson attempts an ambitious comeback tour. When he dies suddenly, the people who control his estate start monetising his legacy.

This one is a three-part docuseries trying to strike a balance between controversy and entertainment. If you're looking for an all-rounder documentary stream, this is it (sorry).

Leaving Neverland (2019)

Arguably the most famous of the lot, Leaving Neverland sent shockwaves around the world when it was released back in 2019. The docuseries follows Jackson's long-running relationships with two boys, aged 7 and 10, and their families.

In their 30s at the time of filming, they tell the story of how they were allegedly sexually abused by the singer. Branded as "crucial yet careful," Leaving Neverland is the starkest look at Jackson's abuse allegations.

In 2025, sequel series Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson was released, though reviews panned it for trying (and failing) to recreate the first installment's impact.

Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues (1989)

Ending on a high note, Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues has been praised by fans of his music for being the best documentary for capturing the impact of his career. Released in 1989, this was long before any of Jackson's allegations came to light.

Though less than one hour long, we explore the singer’s life from child prodigy in the Jackson 5 to the peak of his Bad era solo career. Narrated by James Earl Jones, it features rare archive footage, music videos, and interviews with peers like Quincy Jones and Elizabeth Taylor.

Beef season 2 (Netflix)

You thought season 1 of this multi-award-winning show was messy? Oh honey, you've got another thing coming. Beef season 2 has a complete tonal and narrative switch from what we've seen before.

This time, it follows the slow-burn chaos at an country club run by slimy manager Josh (Oscar Isaacs) and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan). After witnessing one of their boss' fights, young employees Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) and Austin (Charles Melton) decide to blackmail Josh to get health insurance... and it's all downhill from there.

Balls Up (Prime Video)

Where has Marky Dubs (that's my new nickname for Mark Wahlberg) been of late? Thankfully, he's returned in new raunchy Amazon sports comedy film Balls Up.

After causing an international incident at the World Cup Final, rival co-workers (Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser) must find a way out of Brazil alive.

As the name suggests, we're in for a hefty dose of downright sports silliness with this movie. In their defense, who really knows how football works anyway? Kick a ball and be done with it. [editor's note: I hope you're ready for emails from aggrieved soccer fans over that comment, Jasmine!] — JV

Margo's Got Money Troubles (Apple TV)

Elle Fanning leads the cast of Margo's Got Money Troubles, a new Apple TV dramady that's been praised for its funny yet heartfelt story.

The aforementioned star plays the show's eponymous character, who ends up unexpectedly pregnant after an affair with her married English professor. Desperate to support herself, Margo turns to OnlyFans to support herself and her baby, all the while receiving unexpected advice from her ex-pro wrestler father (Nick Offerman), an ex-pro wrestler and her former Hooters waitress mother (Michelle Pfeiffer),

Rental Family (Disney+)

Following its launch on Hulu in the US earlier this year, Brendan Fraser's latest film has finally made its international streaming debut on Disney+.

In Rental Family, Fraser plays Phillip, a struggling American actor who lives in Japan. Seven years on from his one and only break in the entertainment business, Phillip lands a job at the eponymous company, which tasks its employees with playing a stand-in family member for strangers young and old alike.

Armed with another incredible likeable and typically emotional performance from Fraser, who's ably backed up by the Searchlight Pictures' supporting cast, Rental Family will have you laughing one moment and crying the next. A must-see for any Fraser fanatic. — TP

Roommates (Netflix)

This new Netflix movie stars Sadie Sandler as hopeful and naive college freshman Devon, who asks the cool and confident Celeste (Chloe East) to be her new roommate. However, their blossoming friendship soon takes a bad turn.

The two end up in a "war of passive aggression" according to the synopsis, so we can expect plenty of drama as Devon's plans for an easy semester are ruined.

Roommates has a great supporting cast, including Sadie's famous dad Adam Sandler, Natasha Lyonne, and Storm Reid, who all witness the huge fallout between the two leading women Will it have enough to join the Mount Olympus crowd of must-see college-set comedies? You'll be the judge of that. — LB

Roofman (Paramount+)

What if I told you that a man who was imprisoned for robbing up to 60 McDonald's restaurants, and later escaped from prison by hiding out in a local Toys 'R' Us for six months, was a true story?

Well, it is, and Channing Tatum's hit film Roofman , which has finally made its Paramount+ debut internationally following its December 2025 launch in the US, is proof of that. In it, he plays Jeffrey Manchester, a man on the run in the most ridiculous way. If you're a 90s kid, be prepared for a lot of childhood throwbacks.

Roofman is disarming, goofy and a whole lot of fun, though I'm worried for Tatum's liver if he really had to eat that amount of M&Ms. Interested in checking it out? Read my Roofman review first to see if it's worth your time. — JV

The Dark Wizard (HBO Max)

The Dark Wizard is a new HBO Max docuseries that explores the life of legendary free climber Dean Potter, who's known for completing many hard first ascents, free solo ascents, and speed ascents in his career before his untimely death aged just 43.

Across its four episodes, we learn about Potter's extraordinary feats, personal connections, and many rivalries, including with fellow free solo climber Alex Honnold, who recently climbed the tallest's skyscraper in the world live on Netflix. — LB

Apple TV's new eight-part series Margo's Got Money Troubles is now streaming, and its three-episode premiere makes it an ideal binge watch.

There's plenty of reasons why you should, too. Elle Fanning leads an all-star cast, where she plays the titular role, who ends up unexpectedly pregnant after having an affair with her married English professor. With a baby on the way, she finds herself desperate for money.

It's a difficult situation, of course, but David E. Kelley's comedy drama handles it all with the right mix of humor and heart. Margo is supported by her estranged father, Jinx (Nick Offerman), a former pro-wrestler, and mother, Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), a former Hooters waitress, with plenty of dysfunctional dynamics going on here.

Notably, Margo's decision to sleep with her married professor mirrors her mother's own, as she had a one-night stand with Jinx, who was also married at the time. The series doesn't shy away from Shyanne's disappointment that her daughter made the same mistakes as her, and there are plenty of heartfelt moments surrounding that.

Pfeiffer is brilliant as a concerned, frustrated mother whose immediate reaction to her daughter's pregnancy is to open a beer and go on a rant about what a stupid decision she thought the affair was. The first episode's heart-to-heart between Pfeiffer and Fanning is one of the best and most important scenes.

Nick Offerman's performance as Jinx is one of the standouts for me, too. He's known for his comedic work on Parks & Recreation and more serious takes on HBO Max's The Last of Us, and here he gets the chance to do both as a recovering addict and absentee father whose career as a pro wrestler is long gone. He's flawed, but does have good intentions.

Jinx goes on to be an unexpected asset for Margo as she joins OnlyFans, creating adult content to help her earn more money for herself and her baby, whom she decides to keep after a tearful hospital appointment where she gets to hear the heartbeat for the first time.

It never gets too serious though, and Margo's Got Money Troubles is the perfect weekly comedy series to devour throughout April and May, with great pacing and short runtimes of 35–42 minutes per episode.

Apple TV has impressed me a lot lately, especially with its original shows, and this one is no exception. On the surface, it might seem like yet another comedy, but it does a deep dive into some difficult themes and handles them well.

You may have apprehensions about how sex work and unexpected pregnancies are portrayed here, but, again, it comes across as far more nuanced than you might think based on a few of the promotional images. There are some interesting conversations between characters throughout, and there's quite an eclectic mix of personalities to strike that balance.

This isn't the usual kind of show I review, and I was initially drawn in by the cast, but I've come away from Margo's Got Money Troubles feeling very good about it. I'm already hoping it'll come back for season 2.

What do you get when you cross one of the world's biggest tech companies with Keanu Reeves? A movie that reviewers really, really don't like.

A black comedy-drama about a washed-up actor named Reef (Reeves) whose life is turned upside down when he's blackmailed over a questionable video leak, Outcome is a new Apple TV movie that critics have roasted. Indeed, despite its evident star power, it holds a 26% approval rating from 31 critics' reviews, and a meagre 32% from over 50 audience reviews, on Rotten Tomatoes. Not exactly the outcome that Reeves or the tech giant had in mind, I imagine.

Thankfully, Reeves' back catalog is filled with other movies that are actually unmissable. Below, I've picked four of his works that are available on one or more of the best streaming services and are highly rated by fans and critics.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Where to stream: MGM+, Fubo, the Roku Channel, and YouTube (US), StudioCanal (UK), and Stan (Australia)

Widely considered to be Reeves' breakout role in Hollywood, this 1989 sci-fi stoner comedy sees the fan-favorite Canadian actor unite with long-time collaborator Alex Winter for a totally rad adventure.

In it, the titular metalhead slackers travel through time to persuade notable historical figures to feature in their high-school presentation. Long story short: teenage hijinks ensue across the length and breadth of human history.

With 83% critic and 75% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes (RT), Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is a riotously, well, excellent ride from start to finish, and its eponymous characters are played to perfection by its leads.

Speed

Where to stream: Hulu (US) and Disney+ (UK and Australia)

Eleven movies separate the above suggestion and this one in Reeves' film library, including the sequel to the aforementioned flick, Point Break, and Much Ado About Nothing. But it's his role as heroic Los Angeles police officer Jack Traven, though, that books this highly rewatchable action-thriller a spot on this list.

For those who somehow haven't seen this masterpiece (no, I'm not using that word liberally, shut up): Speed tells the story of a passenger bus rigged with explosives that'll go off — and kill everyone on board — if its speed falls below 50 miles per hour.

Sure, that sounds incredibly simplistic and, to some, probably quite boring. However, with its over-the-top 90s set-pieces, great performances from Reeves and co-star Sandra Bullock, and Dennis Hopper's villainous Howard Payne chewing the scenery in every scene he's in, I dare you not to walk away from Speed with a giant smile on your face. Not convinced? Maybe its 95% critic and 77% audience RT ratings will change your mind.

The Matrix

Where to stream: HBO Max (US and UK), and HBO Max and Stan (Australia)

A dystopian sci-fi epic that needs no introduction. If you didn't watch any of Reeves' previous 26 movie outings, you certainly saw this genre-bending, ground-breaking flick.

The Wachowskis' seminal work sees Reeves play Thomas Anderson, a disenfranchised computer programmer whose worldview (and ours alike) is completely changed when he learns that humanity is trapped in the Matrix, a simulated reality created by intelligent machines. Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Ann Moss, and Hugo Weaving are among its incredibly talented cast.

A film renowned for popularizing the visual effect known as 'bullet-time', The Matrix continues to exert its influence on the sci-fi genre, pop culture, and wider entertainment business to this day. The fact that it's been parodied by everyone from The Simpsons to Shrek goes to show how universally known and adored it is, too.

John Wick

Where to stream: HBO Max (US and UK), and HBO Max and Stan (Australia)

The R-rated action film franchise that coined the phrase 'gun-fu' and introduced a whole new audience to Reeves, John Wick was an unexpected hit upon its release in 2014.

Like Speed, its premise doesn't initially lend itself to generating excitement among cinephiles. Indeed, the tale of a former hitman seeking revenge on the men who stole his prized car and killed the dog gifted to him by his late wife didn't sound all that appealing or original.

With its beloved lead actor firing on all cylinders, spectacular and violent action sequences, and heart-tugging narrative, though, John Wick is an underdog story for the ages. The fact that it's gone on to spawn a franchise dripping in mythology and, spin-offs Ballerina and The Continental aside, has gotten better with each entry — and been more profitable than the last — is a testament to how unbelievably good it is. Hoo boy, are you in for a treat this week, ladies and gentlemen. With so many new movies and TV shows debuting on the world's best streaming services, we've done something we've never done before and picked eight entries instead of the usual seven. Oi, it's time. The Boys season 5 has finally premiered on Prime Video, so you can now settle in for some more superhero satire and ultraviolence, plus an overarching narrative that, given the state of things in the US, might hit a bit too close to home for some viewers.

The Boys 5's first two episodes, which are out now on Amazon's streaming service, take place six months after season 2 of live-action spin-off Gen V ended, and find our titular heroes embarking on one last life-threatening mission to stop the authoritarian Homelander once and for all. Will they succeed? And who'll pay the price with their lives on both sides of the Human-Supe divide? Time will tell in typically diabolical fashion. — TP

Euphoria season 3 (HBO Max)

Euphoria season 3 is almost here but, considering critics have slammed it and labeled it an "unhinged disaster", the four-year wait for the award-winning drama may not have been worth the wait.

Sharks meet a category five hurricane in this new looks-so-bad-it-might-be-good thriller movie. Here, unsuspecting locals have to fight off torrential rain, debris, and darkness, as well as the ocean's most fearsome predator.

Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor leads the cast as a pregnant woman who finds herself trapped in a car amid all the chaos. She's joined by Whitney Peak, Djimon Hounsou, and Alyla Browne, who all find themselves trapped in various horrifying scenarios as sharks circle them.

Personally, I can't get enough of shark movies no matter how silly the concept. I also recommend checking out Under Paris if you haven't already. You could even have a shark double bill if you want. — LB

Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord (Disney+)

The latest animated offering from Lucasfilm, Shadow Lord reunites us with the former Sith known as Maul around a year after the Clone Wars ended. Here, the fan-favorite Star Wars villain sets out to rebuild his criminal empire on the planet Janix amid the tightening grip of the nascent Galactic Empire on that iconic galaxy far, far away.

Like The Boys 5, the first two episodes of this Disney+ show have dropped on the streaming platform. There'll be plenty more to enjoy in due course, too, with another eight episodes to air in the weeks ahead and a second season already greenlit by the House of Mouse. Time to update our Star Wars movies in order and new Star Wars movies and shows guides, then. — TP

The Testaments (Hulu/Disney+)

Praise be (or not): we're heading back to a newly reformed Gilead in The Handmaid's Tale spinoff, aka The Testaments.

It's set 15 years after the events of the main show and a lot has changed in the republic. Indeed, Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) has rescued herself from imprisonment after being handpicked to oversee the laws and uniforms governing Gilead's women in the form of a new school. Devout Plum Agnes (Chase Infiniti) completely believes in the regime and what it's trying to achieve, but when she's assigned new 'Pearl Girl' Daisy (Lucy Halliday), the truth finds its way out.

Outcome (Apple TV)

Jonah Hill's new black comedy movie has landed on Apple TV and, with an A-list cast comprising Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, Laverne Cox, Martin Scorsese, and Hill himself, it's certainly got plenty of star power.

The plot centers around Reef Hawk (Reeves), an actor who finds out that someone is blackmailing him with a video of questionable content. Alongside his lawyer Ira Slitz (Hill), he tries to work out who is behind the blackmailing while trying to make amends with people he's wronged along the way.

I was sold on this prior to what critics said but, with many giving Apple's latest movie terrible reviews, it might only be worth seeing if you're a massive Reeves fan. — LB

Hacks season 5 (HBO Max)

When I tell you that you aren't ready for Hacks season 5, you're not damn ready. We're 10 episodes between now, and Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava's (Hannah Einbinder) final farewell — and I can hardly cope.

This time around, they're making their return to Las Vegas following mistaken reports of Deborah's death. They are determined to cement her legacy with a major comeback, working together to turn a post-gag order scandal into a triumph, as only they can.

The cameos are bigger, the laughs are better, and the emotional range will just about crack you in half. RIP, metaphorically dead Deborah... we hardly knew ye. — JV

In Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair, a matured Malcolm, now happily married and a father to a daughter, gets caught up into his family’s dysfunctional, high-energy world once more after spending years creating distance.

Two decades might have passed in between, but it feels like nothing has really changed. If you were a fan of Breaking Bad, it's even more hilarious to get up close and ridiculously personal with Bryan Cranston's Hal all over again. Altogether now: You're not the boss of me nowwwww... — JV

What is the launch time for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 episode 7?

Publicly, Apple has confirmed that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2's next episode will drop on Friday, April 10.

As I've written in every one of these articles since this TV series returned, though, it should launch on the evening before in North and South America. That means 'String Theory' will likely make its bow on one of the best streaming services on Thursday, April 9.

Crime 101 (Prime Video)

Four Marvel actors — Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan — star in this new Amazon crime thriller that's just made its Prime Video debut following its February 13 theatrical release.

Crime 101 follows Mike Davis (Hemsworth), an elusive thief looking for one last big score after a near-death experience during his last job. Teaming up with alienated insurance broker Sharon (Berry), Davis will have to stay one step ahead of dogged detective Lou Lubesnick (Ruffalo) and fiery upstart criminal Ormon (Keoghan) if he wants to successfully pull off one final heist.

XO, Kitty season 3 (Netflix)

Can you believe it's Kitty's (Anna Cathcart) final year at KISS already? Obviously, it's not a straightforward senior year at all... and I'd avoid Googling the major plot twist coming your way in the Netflix show's latest chapter before you start watching.

XO, Kitty season 3 will actually be more shocking to fans of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy. Let's just say that it's Lara Jean (Lana Condor) who you need to keep a close eye on, and prepare to be shocked. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter

The Testament of Ann Lee (Hulu/Disney+)

Amanda Seyfried leads the cast of this musical movie, which is out now on Hulu (US), as the titular character, who was the founding leader of the Shakers religious sect in the 18th century.

If you're unfamiliar, Lee's religious movement focused on communal living, celibacy, gender equality, and functional, simple furniture. Crucially, song and dance were a huge part of their meetings, meaning a musical is the perfect way to depict Lee's life and the religious beliefs she shared with others. — Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer

Your Friends and Neighbors season 2 (Apple TV)

Your Friends and Neighbors season 2 is out now and, like its forebear, follows Jon Hamm's Coop as he continues to use his neighbors to fund his lifestyle, having gotten away with quite a lot of terrible things so far. But, his luck might run out as, according to Apple TV, "a surprise new arrival" threatens to expose his secret, putting himself and his family at risk/

If you haven't seen Hamm's captivating performance as Coop, you've definitely seen the clip of him dancing to DJ Kato's 'Turn The Lights Off', which became an unexpected overnight meme.

Apple dramas once again know how to make a statement, and I'm excited to see where season 2 leads us. — LB

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (Peacock)

Are you ready for Freddy? Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is now streaming on Peacock if you're keen to catch up with the creepy animatronic bear and his equally creepy friends.

Don't expect an exact adaptation of the hugely successful game franchise's second title, but you will see some familiar faces, such as the Marionette, who has a big role in the sequel.

Set one year after the first movie, we follow Abby Schmidt as she gets manipulated by the Marionette, an animatronic from the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria who wants to plot revenge against parents. It's up to Abby's brother Mike to rescue her and appease these angry animatronics, if such a thing can be done. — LB

Secrets of the Bees (Disney+)

James Cameron can really turn his hand to anything and, after the smash success of Avatar: Fire and Ash, he's executive producing new National Geographic documentary Secrets of the Bees, which is out now on Disney+.

The latest installment in Secrets of series, explorer Bertie Gregory uncovers the hidden world of bees, revealing their vital role in pollinating the world’s food and their astonishing intelligence. You could say that they're all *ahem* buzzing to be here. — JV

Pizza Movie (Hulu)

You wanna pizza this? Starring Gaten Matarazzo of Stranger Things fame, this new Hulu movie follows a group of high college students who must navigate two flights of stairs to retrieve their pizza delivery.

Sounds simple enough... but did I mention that they're high on an experimental drug whose effects can only be combatted by said pies? It feels illegal that Matarazzo is old enough to play these sorts of roles but, hey, at least we're all having fun. — JV

Is anyone having a better time on TV at the moment than Joel Kinnaman?

Not only has the actor unleashed his villainous side in Netflix crime drama Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole, but as of this week, he's simultaneously starring in two Apple TV shows: For All Mankind season 5 and Imperfect Women.

Both on paper and onscreen, the latter two couldn't be less alike. For All Mankind season 5 has jumped forward to an alternate 2013, and you'd hardly recognize Kinnaman even if you were staring him in the face. Former astronaut Edward is now an old, frail pensioner, addled with stage 3 cancer after years of radiation exposure.

Cut to Imperfect Women, and it's an entirely different story. Here, Kinnaman plays Robert (who thankfully looks exactly like the actor Joel Kinnaman), husband of Nancy (Kate Mara). We find out that she has been killed in episode 1, having been having an affair with Mary's (Elisabeth Moss) husband Howard (Corey Stoll) behind his back. Oof.

It's surely a lot for one man to juggle, particularly considering that I've seen him at two separate press junkets in as many weeks. But according to him, the various "challenges" are pretty much welcome.

'It gets to you after a while, but I feel blessed to do projects with such vast difference'

"I'm not missing the four hours of makeup prosthetics every day," Kinnaman tells me about For All Mankind season 5. "It gets to you after a while, but it's really fun to do. I feel so blessed to get to do roles and projects that are so vastly different from each other, and it just challenges me in so many different ways.

That's certainly one way of putting it. Fans have already complained about For All Mankind season 5 having a slow start, but I think it's leading to something cataclysmic. In short, it's all likely been a lot of effort behind the scenes.

But how did Kinnaman balance this with Imperfect Women? "I feel it's more and more important that I do things that are increasingly different than what I've done before, to keep it interesting and a little scary," he continues.

"I find that when you've had success and worked for a long time, it's easy to get a little too comfortable. All of a sudden, you're not particularly nervous coming onto set anymore. So I have to find ways of making it a little scary. That's something that I'm increasingly realizing. I think that how you choose roles becomes really important in that way, to choose roles that are a little scary where you feel like you might f**k it up."

With three certified bangers currently out on two different streamers, I think it's safe to say that Kinnaman has nailed it — and you should absolutely binge them all.

• A lot of users are confused, as the Apple TV HD is still getting tvOS 26 updates
• It could mean a new Apple TV 4K is coming this year

Apple has added three more devices to its lists of ‘obsolete’ and ‘vintage’ products, and it’s caused a bit of confusion as all three are still in widespread use — and one in particular, the 32GB Apple TV HD, is still very popular.

The tech giant updated its support page yesterday (March 31), declaring the 32GB Apple TV HD and iPad Mini 4, both which were launched in 2015, obsolete. It also added the 2017 13-inch MacBook Air to its list of vintage devices.

What does this mean for users who still use these devices? For the 32GB Apple TV HD and iPad Mini 4, it means they’re no longer eligible for repair services at Apple, so you’ll have to rely on third-party providers. Additionally, Apple will no longer supply spare parts for the two devices. The 64GB Apple TV HD remains fully supported.

Because the 2017 MacBook Air is now vintage rather than obsolete, it’s still eligible for Apple’s repair services, however this is subject to whether parts are available.

Every now and then, Apple adds a handful of products to its obsolete and vintage lists as it launches new devices across its iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other categories, subject to specific criteria.

“Products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago”, the company states on its support page. “Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago”.

Still using your 32GB Apple TV HD as if you bought it only yesterday? You’re not the only one, and many users can’t understand why Apple has made this decision.

"This is honestly pretty weird"

Apple listing the 32GB Apple TV HD has surfaced a lot of confusion and frustration among users, especially since the now obsolete 32GB device runs tvOS 26, which rolled out just six months ago in September. Some of those users have taken to Reddit in protest, with one posting "This is honestly pretty weird."

Although the 32GB Apple TV HD is still receiving tvOS 26 updates, the fact that it’s been declared obsolete leads us to believe that it won’t be included in the roster of devices that will be eligible for tvOS 27, which is expected to be announced at WWDC 2026 on June 8 alongside iOS 27.

That suggests the next Apple TV 4K model could drop some time this year, having failed to appear after rumors suggested it was going to drop at the end of 2025.

Reddit users are also wondering why only the 32GB Apple TV HD is affected, and not the 64GB version. Apple hasn’t made any comment on why this is the case, so we’re just as stumped as everyone else. It could be that Apple is waiting until the announcement of the next Apple TV 4K to shift the 64GB Apple TV HD onto its obsolete list — we’ll have to wait and see what’s announced on June 8.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has reached its midpoint. Five episodes have escaped into the wild and, with another five still to come, there'll be plenty more kaiju-based action and human melodrama to enjoy in the weeks ahead.

• Apple TV's Cape Fear series finally has a trailer

Apple TV's Cape Fear series has been on my radar for a while, and I was so excited to see the first trailer. The horror-crime movie remains one of Scorsese's best works, and I'm feeling good about the TV adaptation.

Cape Fear sees Javier Bardem stepping into the shoes of Max Cady, a man who is fresh out of prison and seeking revenge on the public defenders who hid evidence from him.

In the first-look trailer, we also get a look at happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom (Patrick Wilson), who seem to be living the perfect life. Until Cady shows up, of course, giving them exactly what he believes they deserve.

What have fans been saying about Apple TV's Cape Fear?

So far, comments on the YouTube trailer have been positive. Many people are just as excited about the show as I am, with one user writing: "Kudos to the editor of this trailer! Great stuff."

Another praised Bardem's portrayal of Cady, saying: "Javier Bardem can do anything can’t wait to see this, looks awesome!", with someone else echoing those sentiments, adding: "Javi is already creeping me out just from the trailer."

The casting for Cape Fear is definitely great, and with both Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese executive producing alongside series creator Nick Antosca, I'm feeling hopeful this will be considered one of the best Apple TV shows.

And as a Simpsons fan, I have appreciated all the memes about this already, referencing that iconic Sideshow Bob episode. It just proves how iconic Cape Fear still is.

We'll have to wait and see for ourselves when the series arrives this summer, but the trailer is certainly promising.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 (Disney+)

The Man Without Fear is back. That's right, Daredevil has returned to Disney+ for the next installment of his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV show — that being, Daredevil: Born Again season 2.

Set six months after its predecessor's finale, it reunites us with Matt Murdock and his vigilante alter-ego as he attempts to end New York Mayor Wilson Fisk's reign of terror. With as much hyperviolence and melodrama as season 1 and this series' Netflix forebear, it's a slight improvement on last season, too. Something Very Bad is Going to Happen (Netflix)

With a title like this, how can you not be intrigued by Netflix's new horror show? Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers are producers on it, too, so if you're a fan of one of that TV series, you#ll want to check this out.

Wedding nerves are common but Something Very Bad is Going to Happen takes it to the next level. In it, we follow couple Rachel and Nicky during the week before their wedding but, as you've probably guessed, something bad derails the festivities.

Bait (Prime Video)

Riz Ahmed leads the cast of Prime Video's Bait, which follows Shah, an actor in London who suffers an existential crisis while auditioning for the role of James Bond.

Facing public backlash for his potential casting as the next 007, plus dealing with numerous difficult family relationships, Shah's got a lot going on. Billed as a genre-bending comedy, each of the series' episodes are 30 minutes apiece, so you can easily devour Bait in one sitting. — LB

For All Mankind season 5 (Apple TV)

Is For All Mankind the boldest sci-fi drama of the last decade? Possibly. And, with season 5 of the Apple TV hit covering the growing tension between the Mars colony and Earth, one which threatens open rebellion, its latest installment could be the most explosive yet.

The Apple TV Original is truly unique in the genre space thanks to its engaging alt-history narrative. Nobody else is doing anything quite like it and I think things will only get better as the season progresses. — Jasmine Valentine entertainment reporter

Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole (Netflix)

Netflix doesn't normally make its crime thillers incredibly gruesome, but that was before Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole's came along. From prosthetic penises being destroyed to a woman dead inside a waterbed, it's not a binge for the faint of heart.

All nine episodes are an absolute rollercoaster, and one of the final scenes in episode 10 made my stomach turn. On top of that, you'll definitely never guess what's coming next. If Nesbo isn't the next Harlan Coben (i.e. having every story adapted for a bingeable streaming collection), I'll eat my hat. — JV

Primate (Paramount+)

Johannes Roberts' latest horror movie, which is out now on Paramount+ in the US, follows an adopted chimpanzee who contracts rabies and becomes violent, turning a Hawaiian getaway into a living nightmare for everyone around him.

Those familiar with Roberts' signature brand of natural horror, including shark movies like 47 Meters Down, will likely have a great time with this. He's a master of making us scared of many animals, so Primate is a great choice for horror fans this weekend. — LB

Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special (Disney+)

I guarantee that by the time you've finished reading this, you'll have performed 'The Best of Both Worlds' entirely in your head. It's genuinely incredible how much Miley Cyrus suits the Hannah Montana look after 20 years, even if so much has changed in between.

Widow's Bay is already shaping up to be one of the best Apple TV shows in my opinion. A sneak peek for the new horror comedy series was shared on March 24, and I can't help but compare it to Twin Peaks.

The teaser, despite being short, was more than enough to keep my interest. Filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio like an old VHS, we see a man inviting to show us around Widow's Bay, before walking off into the distance. We follow him for what seems like a very long time while some upbeat music plays, but something isn't quite right.

Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out you can slow the video down at the 0:59 mark, and there's something lurking beneath the static. See for yourself...

What do we know about Widow's Bay?

Widow's Bay was created by Parks and Recreation writer Katie Dippold, with Hiro Murai directing. Murai is known for his work on HBO Max's Barry, as well as for directing music videos for stars like Childish Gambino.

This unsettling town is full of secrets and rumours, but its skeptical mayor refuses to believe in any claims that the place is cursed. Of course, that's a recipe for disaster, and over six episodes we'll find out exactly why he's wrong.

Apple TV shows have been consistently great, with Severance and Pluribus being up there with my favorite shows of all time. So seeing them taking on a horror comedy like this has definitely caught my eye, and I'll be tuning in as soon as the episodes are released.

We're being treated to a three-episode drop on April 29, so if you're a binge watcher like me, you can dive right in. Following episodes will then be released weekly.

I'm counting down the days until I can learn the truth about Widow's Bay.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is almost midway through its 10-episode run. Episode 5 of the Apple TV Original's latest season is set to premiere in the days ahead, so we'll be into its back half once said chapter has been released.

The first four episodes have dropped on Apple's streaming platform a day earlier in North and South America, and I suspect this will continue to be the case for the rest of this season, so viewers in countries like the US should be able to watch 'Furusato' on the evening of Thursday, March 26.

Tommy Shelby is back for one final hurrah. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man follows his big comeback in 1940, with his now grown-up eldest son Duke (Barry Keoghan) involved in a plot to foil World War II.

In short, he's helping the Nazis distribute counterfeit money across the country, making him rich to the tune of £70 million in the process. This doesn't sound like there'd be a lot of punch-ups along the way, but trust me, the gang gets down and dirty.

Imperfect Women (Apple TV)

Psychological thriller Imperfect Women landed on Apple TV this week, with the first two episodes available to watch now before moving to a weekly release schedule. Despite its title, there’s a perfect cast made up of huge names, including Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Kate Mara.

Based on its book namesake, the eight-part thriller centers on a devastating crime which has a huge impact on a decades-long friendship.

Wicked: For Good (Peacock)

Unlimited, together we're unlimited... and now you can have unlimited watches of Wicked: For Good on Peacock.

Adapting the hit musical' latter half, Jon. M Chu's take on Elphaba and Glinda's farewell is the most light-hearted yet (thanks to a few new changes).

This means packing an emotional punch so strong that you forget green witches and flying monkeys aren't actually real life. Erivo and Grande are completely invested in delivering the best ending to the tale they love so much, and that only adds to the overall polish of the movie's epic scale. — JV

The Comeback season 3 (HBO Max)

The third and final season of The Comeback is upon us, with the first episode set to arrive this Sunday (March 22) on HBO Max.

You won't be able to binge watch it all, but it might be worth savoring them after star Lisa Kudrow confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that this is the end of the line.

It's been a 12 year wait for season 3 and, when we return, we'll be catching up with fictional sitcom actress Valerie Cherish like she never left. I hate goodbyes, but they're inevitable, so get comfy and prepare to hang out with Valerie for the last time. — LB

Bluey's Big Play — The Stage Show (Disney+)

If we weren't collectively obsessed with Bluey enough, our favorite cartoon dog has now come to life.

Well, sort of. Disney+ is now streaming Bluey's Big Play, a "special televised version of the popular touring theatrical production, featuring live performances of fan-favorite characters brought to life by world-class puppeteers."

From someone who has a core childhood memory of seeing the Barney live show aged three, I'd say there's no downside to sitting down with the kids to watch it this weekend. — JV

BTS: The Comeback Live (Netflix)

It’s been three years since K-Pop icons BTS took to the stage, and now they’re reuniting in Seoul’s historic Gwanghwamun Square for a special live performance. You don’t have to book a plane ticket to South Korea to see it, though, as it’s streaming globally on Netflix this Sunday (March 22).

The show kicks off of at 4am PT / 7am PT in the US, so it'll be a very early start for some, but it’ll be so worth it.

To get you hyped up further, the band’s new album 'ARIRANG' releases the day before, so you can get familiar with all the new tracks ahead of the big performance. — LB

• It's coming to the Apple TV app and will suggest content across streaming platforms

Choosing a movie or TV show to stream on the best streaming services is almost an impossible task these days, given the slew of new titles that are pumped out monthly — but Apple TV’s new search tool is aiming to cure your indecisiveness.

As spotted by 9to5Mac, ‘Genius Browse’ is Apple TV’s latest content discovery feature that's now available in beta (albeit not for us in the UK), but will be rolling out widely soon with the final release of tvOS 26.4. In addition to Genius Browse, the tvOS 26.4 update will see the end of the dedicated iTunes and TV show apps.

With Genius Browse, Apple’s goal is very simple; to reduce the time you spend scrolling for something to watch. Situated in the Home tab of the Apple TV app, Genius Browse consists of a row featuring a slew of content categories to choose from.

It not only offers you recommendations based on genre, but groups movies and TV shows based on 'vibe', allowing you to select a title that fits your mood at that moment.

For example, you can choose from categories such as ‘Fun for the whole family’, ‘Thrilling blockbusters’, or ‘Good for a pick-me-up’ when you need a little boost of energy. Categories in Genius Browse vary for each user profile and are based on personal taste, updating regularly to keep new suggestions coming your way — but that’s not the best bit.

When you select a category to view its list of recommendations, hovering over each title will present another row of recommendations based on that movie or TV show, adding an extra layer to how you discover new content in Apple TV — which is something that not even Amazon’s monster Fire TV upgrade has. That said, it doesn’t end there.

When you’re flicking through Genius Browse, it doesn’t just pull together recommended titles from the company’s flagship streaming platform Apple TV, it also suggests titles spanning HBO Max, Prime Video, as well as Disney+. Sadly, the whole streaming world isn't covered — Netflix isn't included in the feature, which makes sense as it's refused to have any integration with the Apple TV app.

Genius Browse looks like a promising tool for movie and TV recommendations, and Amazon's Fire TV should take notes. However, not every Apple TV user is thrilled about the new feature because, according to them, Apple needs to prioritize other improvements.

Aside from the disappointment of Genius Browse being absent from the iOS and iPadOS apps, the comments in the Reddit thread above point to two tools in particular that users would rather see over Genius Browse. The first is the option to disable trailer previews at the start of TV shows, and the second is a playlist tool that allows you to group your favorite episodes in one space.

As it stands, trailers are what viewers are peeved with the most. According to users in the thread, many are constantly faced with trailers before every episode of a show (one account gave Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as an example), and more often than not, it’s advertising the show that they’re already streaming — which one user compared to the ‘luxury car’ theory, insinuating that Apple targets existing customers to assure them that they’ve subscribed to the right streaming platform.

The iPhone might just be in its Glory Days. After being put to use during a live broadcast of a Friday Night Baseball game on Apple TV, the National Baseball Hall of Fame has added one of the iPhone 17 Pros used to broadcast that game to its collection.

It’s the first phone to land in the collection, so effectively, that iPhone 17 Pro – which was already accredited by Major League Baseball – is making history yet again, and it shows the evolution of how these sporting events are captured and shared with the world.

TechRadar exclusively gained behind-the-scenes and in-game access to the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers game at Fenway Park on September 26, 2025, just days after the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max launched, to see how the phones were being used during the game.

And the reason for using the iPhone was pretty simple. “It’s about getting into new places for customers to see an angle of a game that they might not have seen before, and being able to see a story told about a game in a different way,” explained Royce Dickerson, Executive Producer of Live Sports at Apple TV.

At that game, Apple TV placed an iPhone 17 Pro, held by two clamps, on the right-field foul pole — aka the Pesky Pole — along with one on the first baseline side, one inside the Green Monster, and another roaming on a gimbal. It was also using the built-in cameras on the 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max — 48-megapixel wide, 48-megapixel ultra-wide, and 48-megapixel telephoto — connected to the production team’s system using Blackmagic Camera.

Now, as we approach the formal start of the 2026 MLB season, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum has added the iPhone 17 Pro that was attached to the Pesky Pole to its collection — the first time it has done so for a phone.

Speaking to TechRadar, Royce Dickerson shared, “Seeing one of the iPhones used in our ‘Friday Night Baseball’ broadcast added to the permanent collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame is incredibly meaningful for our team.”

“By integrating iPhone into the broadcast, we were able to capture new perspectives and bring fans closer to the game. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation in how live sports are produced and experienced,” Dickerson said.

It allowed the Apple TV production team to capture more unique shots and ultimately deliver a more immersive broadcast for viewers, and that approach will continue with the start of the new season.

In a release confirming the schedule for Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV in 2026, Apple writes, “Throughout the 2026 season, iPhone will be further integrated into the broadcast camera lineup for select games.” Essentially, that means while it might not appear at every game, Apple TV is looking to use the iPhone in more unique ways, likely depending on the ballpark and where the most captivating shots can be found.

The fifth season of Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV kicks off on March 27, 2026, as the Los Angeles Angels take on the Houston Astros at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas, at 8:15 PM ET. That’s followed by the Cleveland Guardians facing the Seattle Mariners at 9:45 PM ET from T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. We’ll have to watch and see if any iPhone shots are called for — chances are Apple TV will once again put the 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max into the game.
