This is the MacBook Air for 2023, and it’s only been available since June. During the peak of Black Friday, JB Hi-Fi knocked AU$402 off the asking price, which was a stellar discount for a newer Apple product. That deal has since ended, but Amazon is offering the laptop with 512GB of storage for AU$2,128, which is 15% off. If you don’t mind sacrificing a little portability for a gorgeous 15-inch screen, the MacBook Air (2023) could be a great purchase.

It has a 13.6-inch display, which is smaller than the 2023 MacBook Air, but it still uses the Apple M2 chipset. This model is only AU$178 cheaper than 2023’s 15-inch MacBook Air, so it really comes down to what screen size you want. This Asus ZenBook Laptop 14 also has some decent specs, with a 12th-gen Intel Core i5 processor that's quite powerful, accompanied by 8GB of system memory and 512GB of solid-state storage. This is a great all-rounder for both everyday computing and creative tasks, and can even do a bit of gaming thanks to its Intel Iris Xe GPU. The Lenovo Yoga 7i is a solid 2-in-1 laptop. This model comes outfitted with a 13th-gen Intel i5 CPU, and the 8GB of RAM is well-balanced against that processor, which is lower powered. Its screen is also great for the price, as you’re getting a 14-inch 2.2K (2240 x 1400) display with 300 nit brightness. If you want a fully convertible touchscreen laptop, this device is now 39% off at Lenovo, just enter the code GIFTING at checkout.

This HP 2-in-1 was down to AU$1,799 earlier in November, but the price has since gone up to AU$1,808, making it AU$9 more. This HP Envy x360 2-in-1 is carrying a 12th-gen Intel i7 processor, which puts it behind the 13th-gen silicon found in newer laptops (and 14th-gen is now available in new release desktops). We’re willing to look past that at this discounted price, particularly because it comes with a fantastic OLED display with 2.8K resolution.

Amazon has taken 25% off this Dell Inspiron 2-in-1, saving you a very nice AU$500. Under the hood is an Intel Core i7-1355U processor and 16GB of RAM, so multitasking shouldn’t be much of an issue here. The 14-inch touchscreen has a 16:10 ratio, which makes the screen a little taller. Just note, the stylus does not come included with this laptop and would need to be bought separately.

This Lenovo gaming laptop is more of a mid-range option. It’s got an Intel Core i7-13700HX to keep it ticking along, paired with 16GB of RAM and an RTX 4060. The 16-inch display has 500-nit brightness, and we like that there’s a good port selection. The latest 13th-gen i7 processor and RTX 4050 GPU mean its capable of some serious gaming, but this one will happily function as an allrounder for work or play. Its 14-inch 2560 x 1600 IPS screen delivers great colour accuracy, while its Thunderbolt 4 and up to 100W PD support gives it excellent connectivity potential. Black Friday laptop deals: FAQs

Apple MacBook Air (M1,2020)

When will the best Black Friday laptop deals start in 2023?

While Black Friday falls on November 24 this year, it’s highly likely that Black Friday laptop deals will start about a week before the actual sale event. Good deals will start landing from mid-November onwards, but our prediction is that the very best deals will arrive over the Black Friday weekend. With that said, if you don’t want to wait and you’d rather beat the rush, some great laptop deals are on right now.

Where can I find the best Black Friday laptop deals?

With a huge range of devices on the market, the best Black Friday laptop deals tend to be spread out across a few different brands and retailers. If you’re buying directly from a brand, the best savings are likely to come from HP and Lenovo. For retailers, it’s Amazon, JB Hi-Fi and eBay which offer the biggest discounts.

Here’s another look at some of the online retailers with the best laptop sales. We recommend browsing these sites before the sales start so you can get a good idea of what laptop you want to buy:

Amazon: best MacBook deals, plus regular discounts on Chromebooks
Dell: offers older models on clearance
HP: discounts of up to 40% already available
JB Hi-Fi: up to 20% off gaming laptops + stacks more
Lenovo: shop up to 50% off Lenovo laptops now
Microsoft: save up to AU$551 on Surface devices
Mwave: one-stop shop for all the major PC retailers

What Black Friday laptop deals do we expect in 2023?

It’s been an interesting year for laptops – one result of the global economic downturn is a lower demand from consumers for new laptops, and that could mean that laptop retailers will be looking to sell off their stock before newer models arrive next year.

We’ve also seen some popular laptop models drop to their lowest price this year, such as the Apple MacBook Air (M1, 2020) which fell to AU$1,149 during Afterpay Day. While it’s not certain, this could bode well for MacBook deals during the Black Friday sales, but we’ll have to wait and see if we get the same price this November.

In addition to discounted MacBooks, we’re also expecting to see a good selection of deals from HP and Lenovo, as these two brands offer discounts throughout the year. There was also recently an announcement that a new wave of Google-powered Chromebooks are on the horizon, and while we don’t know if or when they’ll arrive in Australia, we’re predicting that some cheap Chromebooks could be available from the likes of Amazon.

Last year’s best laptop deals

One way to predict what will happen during Black Friday 2023 is to look back at the previous year. Here’s a look at last year’s best laptop deals, which you can also use to compare to today’s prices.

Apple MacBook Air (M1, 2020) | M1 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD | AU$1,499 AU$1,247 on Amazon (AU$252 off)

This deal on the MacBook Air (2020) actually came on Cyber Monday, and it was slightly cheaper than what was available on Black Friday last year. At the time, it was the cheapest we’d seen this laptop on Amazon for six months, so we felt it was a pretty good deal. The 2020 MacBook Air is a more budget-friendly way to get your hands on Apple’s premium performance, and we think it’s likely to see more discounts this Black Friday sales weekend.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio | from AU$1,995 (up to AU$796 off)

Microsoft discounted a good selection of its laptops and 2-in-1s during the last Black Friday, but this deal is one that stood out. The Microsoft Store offered 17% off its innovative Surface Laptop Studio, but depending on which model you were after, you could also get a further AU$300 off the device by buying from Microsoft’s official eBay store. That meant you could bump up the total saving to almost 30% off.

HP Envy x360 2-in-1 (13-ay1002AU) | Ryzen 5 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD | AU$1,499 AU$999 on HP (AU$500 off)

This was an excellent deal on a HP 2-in-1 for under a grand. HP tends to offer discounts on its range of laptops all year round, but the Black Friday sales are likely to bring some of the biggest price drops of the year. We could see discounts of up to 40-50% off, with some of HP’s more premium models also potentially going on sale, like the Spectre 2-in-1s or the Omen gaming laptops.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro | Ryzen 7 / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / RTX 3060 | AU$2,399 AU$1,599 on Lenovo (AU$800 off)

It’s rare to find such a powerful machine at this price, but this is exactly the kind of deal that Black Friday can deliver. This model paired a Ryzen 7 chip with an RTX 3060 graphics card, and an AU$800 saving brought the final price down to AU$1,599. Lenovo is another brand that always offers discounts on its online store, and judging from previous years, we’re expecting to see deals of up to 50% off in November.

Dell XPS 13 (9315) | i7 / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD | AU$2,598.20 AU$1,948.20 on Dell (AU$650 off)

This deal came on the 2022 model of Dell’s excellent XPS laptop. It was a pretty sweet deal with AU$650 knocked off the RRP, but we think it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll see a discount like this again. That’s because Dell no longer offers limited-time discounts across its devices – there’s now only a <a href="https://dell.rrmo.net/c/338476/521695/8903?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&sharedId=hawk&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dell.com%2Fen-au%2Flp%2Fclearance" data-link-merchant="dell.com"">clearance section on its website. It’s worth noting that Dell does <a href="https://dell.rrmo.net/c/338476/521695/8903?subId1=hawk-custom-tracking&sharedId=hawk&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dell.com%2Fen-au%2Flp%2Fprice-match-guarantee" data-link-merchant="dell.com"" data-link-merchant="dell.com"">price match competitor’s deals, so keep this in mind while you shop.

Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook | AU$679 AU$399 at JB Hi-Fi (AU$280 off)

While AU$280 off this Lenovo Chromebook might not seem like much, it’s actually a discount of 40%. It’s a truly fantastic Chromebook, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, plus an 11-inch touchscreen and detachable keyboard. This deal is just one example of the kinds of savings we can expect to see from JB Hi-Fi over the Black Friday weekend, so it’s one to watch if you want a new laptop or Chromebook.
