    On the face of it, the Brother MFC-7440N is a surprisingly well-specified MFD. It’s a monochrome laser design with a fax and 10/100 BASE TX networking, with the added bonus that the scanner works in colour.

    This bargain combo comes in at a just over £45 and comprises a scanner, A4 printer, copier and photo printer. It connects to a Mac via a discreet USB lead that tucks away neatly, and has another USB port for PictBridge printing straight from cameras. There are no memory card slots or Ethernet ports.

    Brother doesn't produce a dedicated photo printer, but the DCP-330C is a decent all-in-one that also includes a scanner and fax function. The MFL-Pro Suite software handles scanning and copying duties, but you're on your own when it comes to printing

    The DCP-540CN (£132 inc. VAT) is part of the recently redesigned Brother MFD range where the four ink tanks reside behind a flap on the front of the printer. Previously you had to open the top of the printer, which could be awkward...
