Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB review

    9

Western Digital's Scorpio Black 750GB notebook drive is another in the recent spurt of high-capacity laptop HDDs such as the Toshiba MK7559GSXP, WD WD3200 Scorpio Black and Toshiba MK1059GSM.

Patriot Supersonic USB 3.0 64GB review

The big letdown for the flash drive is the odd write performance. Sequential speeds seem as good if not better than the Kingston DT Ultimate, however as soon as random access and small files are thrown into the mix all hell breaks loose and performance tanks , which is very off putting for such a premium product.

Samsung 470 Series SSD 256GB review

Samsung 470 Series SSD 256GB review

    8

It's a peculiarity of the current market for solid state drives that a largely unheralded little outfit known as SandForce makes the dominant SSD controller chipset. Not, perhaps, for much longer. The big boys are fighting back and one of the early salvos takes the form of the new Samsung SSD 470 Series 256GB.

OCZ IBIS HSDL 240GB SSD review

    8

It's fashionable among the technologistas to grumble about the quality and performance of solid-state drive controller chipsets. But controllers aren't the only problem with SSD performance; increasingly, storage interfaces are creating a bottleneck. Enter the OCZ IBIS HSDL 240GB, an ultra-high performance SSD designed to sidestep performance issues related to the SATA I/O interface.

Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB SATA 3Gb/s review

If you're looking for a large drive with a ridiculous amount of capacity (formatted you're looking at 2.72TB), and don't mind paying a little bit over the odds for it, this is the drive for you.

    OCZ Agility 2 60GB review

    OCZ Agility 2 60GB review

    8

Up until now, SSDs have had one sided performance, reading files very quickly but being much slower to write data down onto the drive. Thanks to the new SF-1200 controller, the Agility 2 is has almost symmetrical read/write performance in sequential tasks, and its handling of multiple small writes is ridiculously quick.

    OCZ Vertex 2 120GB review

    10

OCZ's Vertex 2 is an outstanding drive on almost all counts whether its performance or value for money that you're after, but unless you're setting up a dedicated multimedia workstation for cutting your first HD feature, you should probably save your money and opt for the 60GB version instead. And trust us, you'll be very, very happy with your choice.

    Seagate Momentus XT 500GB review

    10

Seagate's magniloquently monikered Momentous XT has finally arrived in the TechRadar lab, resurrecting a concept we'd long dismissed as vapourware. It's the first hybrid drive we've seen for years: a statement which will make younger readers ask, what's a hybrid drive?
