Arcam FMJ CD37 CD/SACD player review

Arcam FMJ CD37 CD/SACD player review

    10

Arcam has recently revamped its entire flagship FMJ range (see HFC 308 for full details). First seen at Munich’s High End show, the line-up has something for everyone in terms of both specification and price. At the very top of the CD player range, is the subject of this review; the FMJ CD37, an SACD-compatible disc spinner that reflects all of Arcam’s CD player know-how in one box.

    Arcam FMJ A38 review

    10

Arcam is undoubtedly one of the greatest British hi-fi companies of all time. With a commanding range of CD players, amps and AV equipment, we all know someone who has benefited from its expertise over the years. Part of its charm too, is its affordability.

    Arcam FMJ C31 / FMJ P38 review

    8

Along with its new top-of-the-range integrated amp, the A38, Arcam has introduced a new stereo power amplifier to replace the P35 of yore. It’s not a vast change and, indeed, from the outside you’d have trouble distinguishing a P38 from a P35, but there are a few nips and tucks under the hood.

    Arcam Solo Mini review

    Arcam Solo Mini review

    10

Flushed, no doubt, by the success of the original ‘Solo’, Arcam has now progressed to a three-band, half-width, receiver with built-in CD player – and that’s usually the territory of Aiwa, Matsui and other faceless brands that no one has ever heard of.

    Arcam MS250 review

    Arcam MS250 review

    8

After some four years in development, Arcam has added the MS250 to its ‘FMJ’ range of hi-fi separates. By no means the cheapest act available, it nevertheless promises audiophile sound quality based on Arcam’s CD player expertise and offers a handy capacity of 400GB – equivalent to well over 500 hours of uncompressed audio.

Predictably, it was Sony that launched the first all-in-one cinema system in the UK in the early days of DVD, and quickly realised that it was shifting more DVD systems than stand-alone players and making much healthier margins.

    Arcam AV9 review

If the thought of something 'British Designed' conjures up phrases like quintessential, unique and eclectic, then Arcam's AV9 will not disappoint. Conceived and built in the heart of Cambridgeshire..

    Arcam DiVA AVR-280 review

    10

How many home cinema fans with mid-priced AV receivers ever bother to upgrade with a multi-channel power amp? According to Arcam's Geoff Meads, very few indeed - which goes some way to explain what looks like an AVR-350 'lite' arriving on our test bench

    Arcam Diva A70 review

This may be a brand new model from Arcam, but it is clearly a chip off the old block on the outside at least. Its fascia bears a distinct resemblance to existing models, with details like the layout of knobs and switches

    Arcam DiVA CD73 review

Arcam's CD players all look very similar. In fact, externally, this is identical to the CD192. It's considerably simpler inside, though, lacking the latter's upsampling function and highly specified DAC board

If the number in this model's moniker rings bells, it is of course because it is a common frequency, in kHz, for upsampling converters to use (there's nothing remotely sacred about it, by the way - 193kHz would be just as good)
