2. How many types of program license are there?
A program license is decided by the program's developer and it outlines how you can use it. Knowing what license a program carries can help you decide whether or not to download a free version, demo or shareware version of a program. Below are the different types of license and what they mean for you.
Free: you are free to use and distribute this software.
Free (GPL) General Public License: you can use, modify and distribute this program for free as long as any software derived from it is distributed under the same license terms.
Adware: the program is free, but it contains advertising (for example, banner ads).
Trial version: you can use the program for free, but after some days (for example, 15 or 30) you will have to purchase the software if you want to continue using it.
Demo: this is a feature-limited version of a program that you can use for free (sometimes for a limited time period). Some of the program's main features will not be available to you until you purchase the full version.
3. Why do you offer extra programs along with the program I have chosen to download?
To keep our download service free for you we work with selected software partners who pay us to promote their products. When you download a program from us you are given the opportunity to download a related product which we think you'll enjoy. You're under no obligation to download it and we will not add it to your downloads unless you request it.
4. I don't want to see links to extra programs when I download a file
If you do not wish to download from us and see associated offers, you can find the program available directly for download from the developer's website. A link to each developer can be found on each of the download pages.
5. Why has my anti-virus alerted me that the program I am downloading contains a virus?
All of the programs available for download on TechRadar have been scanned by some of the best antivirus programs to detect any malicious malware or viruses.
Sometimes an antivirus program can flag a safe program as suspicious. This is generally due to the antivirus program confusing the program's functions with the symptoms of a virus.
If this does happen please contact us and we will manually check the program to ensure that it is safe for you to run.
While we maintain that we try our upmost to ensure that our programs are delivered to you are 100% safe we do not recommend that you stop using an antivirus program on your PC and can not give any guarantee in relation to third-party software.
