Black Friday: 3:1 360 to PS3 Sales

At least, that's what Microsoft claims

Xbox 360 outperforms PS3 3 1 in terms of Black Friday 2008 sales according to Microsoft

Microsoft claims to have sold three times the number of Xbox 360s compared to sales of Sony PlayStation 3's on the US's busiest pre-Xmas day of sales, Black Friday.

Microsoft issued a press statement on Monday claiming the three-to-one sales victory, noting that sales were up 25 percent over Black Friday 2007. No information on Nintendo Wii's Black Friday sales performance has yet been made available.

While Microsoft did not give any figures to back up the claims, it will be interesting to see how the unbiased NPD sales data relates to the firm's sales victory claims – with that information due for publication later this week.

Xbox up 400 per cent in Europe

Don Mattrick, SVP of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business said: "Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009."

The statement added that Xbox 360 console sales in Europe were "up as much as 400 percent, with sales nearly double year over year and reaching 7 million consoles sold this generation."
