Rather than focusing on entertainment audiences, however, the training material is intended for employees navigating complex workplace security challenges.

AI fraud is creating new concerns

Adaptive Security was founded in 2024 and develops products intended to help organizations recognize and respond to cyber threats.

Its offerings include security awareness courses, phishing simulations, and other services supported by a combination of proprietary and publicly available AI models.

Company executives argue that the threat landscape has changed significantly as generative AI tools become more widely available.

According to Adaptive's chief product officer, Andrew Jones, attacks have become more sophisticated and frequent.

“There’s really a before and after,” Jones said while discussing the growing influence of AI on cybercrime activity.

“There’s the before, which was pre-AI, and then there’s the after, which is after AI — and after AI, these attacks have gotten much more sophisticated.”

He added that businesses need clear strategies because emerging technologies are making fraud campaigns increasingly difficult to detect and counter.

Industry forecasts frequently cited by cybersecurity firms suggest financial losses connected to AI-enabled fraud may continue rising during the coming years.

Adaptive points to these projections as evidence of growing risks and argues that improved training may help organizations reduce their exposure.

The company has attracted significant investor backing, raising more than $140 million from several funding rounds involving prominent technology investors.

Chip stocks have had an impressive run over the past few years, driven by red-hot industry demand, ever-increasing demand forecasts, and increasingly expensive and labyrinthine designs.

This impressive rally has led many investors to climb aboard a seemingly never-ending train, at least in the long term, as estimates, price targets, and outlooks have been upgraded across the board over the past two years.

Current movements in the stock market, however, are giving investors pause, with three of the last four trading sessions ending lower than the previous day's close.

A troubled market, or external factors?

While there is little to dispute the fact that the current chip stock rout was ignited by Broadcom recently posting softer guidance for its AI chip sales for the next quarter, much of what has transpired since might be something out of the control of semiconductor companies and their CEOs, even as they post stellar projections and continue to beat earnings estimates.

The results were somewhat devastating: Marvell collapsed 17%, Micron lost 13%, Intel and AMD each dropped around 11%, and Nvidia's comparatively modest 6% decline still pushed the world's most valuable company back below the $5 trillion mark.

Friday's movement was also exacerbated by investors reacting to other news: a stellar jobs report showing 172,000 jobs were added to the US jobs market, nearly double the 80,000 most economists had predicted. While this seems good news on paper, it makes a potential interest rate cut increasingly unlikely.

A rate cut is doubly important here for AI-related stocks; not only does it allow for investors to bring in cheaper money to buy more stocks and prop up an increasingly capital-intensive AI datacenter market's financing needs, but it also reduces the load of debt and securities that already are in play for many of the largest datacenter companies in the world, making it easier and cheaper to borrow more.

Investors are also reeling from a renewed US-Iran conflict, further exacerbating an already fragile oil market and complicating future inflows from Gulf states, a key market for AI investment, while driving up energy prices across the board, even as it risks spilling over to other regions.

At the same time, with SpaceX's IPO ($1.75 trillion) set to go live, coupled with investors looking at an increasingly volatile crypto market, and Anthropic ($965 billion) and OpenAI (est. ~$1 trillion) filing IPO paperwork, the market needs to account for at least 3 new sub-trillion-dollar IPOs in the near future and the capital that needs to be rotated out of existing positions to fund them make for a perfect storm in more ways than one.

The fundamentals, though solid for chip stocks for now, are under added scrutiny, prompting some investors to trade them for safer havens, including cash, bonds, and the more balanced S&P 500 index. Whether this is a sign of things to come or just the AI trade taking a pause remains to be seen.

7. Ocarina of Time was reborn

Closing out gaming’s week-long celebration that is Summer Game Fest and the showcases surrounding it, Nintendo’s Direct showcased an exciting mix of trailers, which included a tease for a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Little has been revealed so far beyond child Link’s design, and hints at full voice acting as the Great Deku Tree is heard narrating the intro like he does at the beginning of the N64 game.

Perhaps best of all, the trailer ended with a release year: 2026. So we won’t be waiting too long to get this Zelda game in our hands and find out if this is the series’ Resident Evil 2 Remake moment, as many hope it will be.

6. Trump Phone not ‘made in America’

To probably no one’s surprise — after serious delays, changing promises, and accidentally doxxing its buyers — the Trump Mobile T1 phone has been taken apart by iFixit, and it turns out the “American-proud design” is just a gold-skinned HTC U24 Pro, aka a Taiwanese phone launched in 2024.

In fairness, it does boast a couple of tweaks. The design has been adapted with a new camera bump shape, and the battery is a little larger at 5,000mAh battery — up from 4,600mAh — though it only offers 30W charging rather than the HTC original’s 60W.

iFixit notes that markings on the phone say it’s “assembled in the USA”, which is notably different from being “made in America,” which comes with some very specific FCC requirements that the Trump Mobile phone ironically doesn’t seem to meet.

The teardown company puts it best: “against all expectations, the T1 is actually well priced when compared to the equivalently specced U24 Pro, and the only things you give up are the 60W fast charging and your dignity."

5. Valve abandoned physical gift cards

It’s bad news for PC gamers on Steam this week, as Valve announced it will no longer be restocking physical Steam gift cards. Why? Because scammers are taking advantage of consumers.

This isn’t exactly a new occurrence; Steam scams have been around for years. However, Valve clarifies it’s effectively been forced to end restocks of physical gift cards, as “scammers have adapted”, even after it has actively worked with retailers and law enforcement to foil scams.

Physical gift cards are an excellent gift option for the less gamer-savvy to give their PC gamer loved ones, and can be useful for parents to top up their child’s Steam account with funds without pairing a credit card to it. However, with them gone, digital Steam gift cards will be the only option, as soon as stock runs out across multiple retailers — and one can only hope that scammers don’t end up forcing Valve to restructure digital gift cards as well.

4. Philips launched a virtual skylight

Philips unveiled a new ceiling light dubbed the ‘Philips Skylight’, designed to mimic the effect of natural daylight for indoor use, blending advanced LED and Philips’ NatureConnect technologies. Starting at 499.99 euros (about $580 / £430), the ceiling light comes in four different models and will be available later this month in most regions. It’s coming to the US in September.

Each variant of the Philips Skylight comes with a slim ceiling profile for mounting, a remote control, five preset lighting scenes, and Philips’ Day Rhythm tool, which automatically adjusts color temperature and brightness throughout the day. But despite its slew of features, it’s not Philips Hue.

This means that, unfortunately, it doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi or work with Matter over Thread, so you can't integrate it into your existing smart home setup, and you’ll have to use the included remote to control it manually.

3. Apple revealed some major software surprises

Siri AI (see no.1 below) was the undoubted star of Apple’s WWDC event this week, but the software showcase revealed hundreds of other upgrades for iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches and more. And not all of them went down well.

You can read our pick of the best features coming to iPhones in iOS 27, or the macOS 27 highlights below (in entry no.2). But there were some notable surprises too, including the next version of watchOS dropping support for some recent models and Apple controverisally embracing generative AI in Photos.

Apple also went very hard on boosting parental controls at the event — leaving us with a sense that it had one eye on child safety, and another on increasingly demanding government regulators.

2. macOS 27 named Golden Gate

Tim Cook's final WWDC as Apple CEO gave us a glimpse of the future of its software, including the upcoming macOS 27 build — called Golden Gate. Unlike previous years, however, it’s not the most exciting.

There are Liquid Glass and other design tweaks that’ll make your Mac feel more usable, plus there’s a new and improved search to help you locate just about anything on your machine. There are also some performance enhancements, with apps said to feel more responsive, and of course, there’s the debut of Siri AI, more on that below.

While not the flashiest update, it’s a solid upgrade from the looks of things, though if you aren’t a fan of AI, it might feel like a downgrade.

• Access to Mythos 5 and Fable 5 has been pulled by Anthropic
• The move is after a directive from the US government
• A potential jailbreak is likely the reason for the change in access

Under orders from the US government, Anthropic is pulling access to its latest Mythos 5 and Fable 5 AI models. Access to other models is not affected, and the company is working to "restore access as soon as possible".

The directive from the White House, issued at 5.21pm Eastern time, was to block access to the next-gen AI models to "any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees" as per Anthropic's blog post.

However, with no way of applying that rule at the moment, access has been universally pulled. While we don't have many details, Anthropic says it understands the US government is worried about a "potential jailbreak" — but one that is apparently "narrow", "non-universal", and not reason enough to pull access to the model, in Anthropic's words.

"If this standard was applied across the industry, we believe it would essentially halt all new model deployments for all frontier model providers," Anthropic explains. "We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible."

'This has to be a joke'

Fable 5 indefinitely suspended due to national security concerns from r/ClaudeAI

Fable 5 — the more restricted, public version of the Mythos 5 AI model that Anthropic's trusted partners have — has only been out in the wild for a matter of days, and users have been busy putting it to the test. It promises a significant step up in coding, reasoning, and agentic actions, and was put through a thorough vetting process before release.

Anthropic points out that it worked closely with authorities in the US and the UK, and with multiple third-party agencies and internal teams, to get Mythos 5 and Fable 5 safe to use. Fable's safeguards are " substantially more effective than those of any previously deployed model" according to Anthropic.

Apparently, those safeguards aren't enough for now. This story is clearly going to run and run as we discover more details about exactly what kind of jailbreak has been found, but it's clear that Anthropic doesn't think it's as dangerous as the White House does.

Understandably, users aren't impressed: according to one poster it's an "absolute nightmare scenario" while another says "this has to be a joke", and there's plenty of speculation about what this means about other AI models (including those from China).

• Insta360 launched the Luna Ultra 8K vlogging camera on June 10
• DJI filed a lawsuit on the same day, claiming Luna had copied its DJI Pocket 3, only for Insta360 to file countersuits two days later
• Because of the ongoing DJI ban in the US, Insta360 could enjoy unrivaled availability there

No sooner has Insta360 unveiled its first vlogging cameras, the Luna Ultra and (upcoming) Luna Pro — which look set to enjoy unrivaled access to the US market because of the DJI ban — than DJI has filed an Insta360 lawsuit in the US, claiming they "blatantly copy" its Pocket 3.

For years, DJI has enjoyed near total dominance in the compact vlogging camera market with its hugely popular Osmo Pocket series, but now it faces two very real challenges: access to the US market, and the first serious-rival product.

DJI's latest and best vlogging camera, the Pocket 4, was launched in April this year, but the polished Pocket 3 successor is yet to make it to the US, given that DJI is on the FCC's 'Covered list', which currently affects any DJI products with a camera, not just its drones. So it's unlikely to hit US stores any time soon.

Meanwhile, Insta360 Luna cameras have made quite the impression. Despite being a first-generation product, the Luna Ultra is polished, and features a neat modular design that DJI Pocket cameras lack — check out my first impressions of the Luna Ultra, which I've been testing at length.

Now DJI is going straight for the jugular with its lawsuit, demanding that Luna cameras are banned. I've tested both cameras, and the user experience is very similar, but the crux of the situation is whether or not Luna cameras actually violate design and utility patents, as DJI claims in its lawsuit.

Insta360 has now filed two countersuits against DJI, related to "patents covering technology used in gimbal and 360-degree cameras". In a statement provided to TechRadar, Insta360 also defended its Luna cameras, saying "Luna Ultra is the result of years of independent R&D, not a response to any competitor's product."

The DJI / Insta360 rivalry just went up a notch

I spoke with Insta360 co-founder Max Richter at a pre-launch Luna event, and he told me the company was "not going to compete on price", but on premium and exclusive features. Specifically he was referring to the Luna's innovative removable remote, which features a 2-inch OLED screen, camera controls and built-in mic. Right now in the US, however, Insta360 doesn't need to rival DJI at all, because it has a clear field in that market.

But Insta360 faces a potential headache in the form of DJI's lawsuit. Petapixel reports that DJI has filed two patent lawsuits against Arashi Vision Inc. — which does business as Insta360 — covering two alleged violations of design patents and four utility patents.

The lawsuit claims that Luna cameras closely copy the design and features of the Osmo Pocket 3, claiming that “Insta360’s new Luna line of gimbal cameras, including but not limited to the Luna Ultra, supporting accessories, and the Insta360 mobile application (collectively, the “Accused Products”) blatantly copy DJI’s patented inventions wholesale.”

The suit adds: "From its silhouette to its feature set, the Accused Products mirror what DJI has spent the better part of a decade engineering and patenting for its innovative handheld gimbal camera systems.

"The visual similarity between the Accused Products and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 design is striking. [As shown below,] the Accused Products share the same general proportions, the same gimbal-on-handle architecture, and the same component arrangement as DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3."

As for the four utility patents, DJI says that Insta360 Luna cameras and accessories "copy key features that make the DJI Osmo Pocket unique in the marketplace including DJI’s innovative subject-tracking technology, seamless gimbal-mode switching allowing the camera’s shooting direction to follow user movement of the handle, and a 'locked' mode to maintain a fixed shooting direction regardless of how the handle is moved."

DJI was clearly ready with this lawsuit, given that it was filed on the day the Insta360 Luna Ultra became officially available for purchase in leading US stores, including B&H Photo.

Many US-based vloggers will likely be watching the case with interest — they're already missing out on the excellent DJI Pocket 4, and they must be hoping that they won't also be denied the chance to buy Insta360's Luna cameras.

Now the rivalry has been raised another notch, with Insta360 filing its countersuit.

Insta360's response

In a statement provided to TechRadar, Insta360 founder and CEO JK Liu struck a defiant tone in his response to the DJI lawsuit and Insta360's countersuit, saying about the Luna cameras:

"Development began in 2020, with earlier Insta360 products including the ONE R, Link Series webcams, and Flow Series gimbals helping shape the technology and design direction behind Luna Ultra. DJI filing lawsuits on the same day we launched Luna Ultra speaks volumes — exposing their fear of competition from a highly competitive product."

Regarding the countersuit, the statements reads:

The company asserts that DJI infringed its patents relating to gimbal stabilization, gimbal directional control, camera smooth stabilization, telemetry overlay, and panoramic video stabilization. These technologies are incorporated into several major DJI products, including the Osmo Pocket series, Ronin/RS series, Osmo Mobile series, and Osmo 360.

Liu said, "We are fully committed to protecting our innovations and will take decisive action to defend our intellectual property from infringement."

Today's Wordle answer (game #1820) is… QUELL.

We weren't due a Q game yet, but a Q game is what we have today. There are only 29 of them among the 2,309 original solutions, meaning you'd only expect one every 79 games. But here one is, a mere 46 days after QUACK (game #1,774).

It's arguably harder than that word, on account of also containing a repeated letter. Plus, of course, it's a less common word than QUACK, a word so common that every three-year-old knows it and probably regularly sings it at pre-school.

Both have the same average score of 3.9, however, and I don't know why that would be. One of Wordle's little mysteries…

For me, it was another relatively straightforward game, with my second guess of CLOUT doing a lot of the heavy lifting and leaving only four options. I found three of the four — BULGE, BUGLE and GUILE — but completely missed QUELL and so was lucky that it was the only word left for my fourth attempt.

Yesterday's Wordle answer (game #1819) was… BREAK.

If BREAK seems familiar as a Wordle answer then you've been playing for longer than I have.

This is the latest of the game's repeated answers, but it first appeared way back in December 2021 — game #172 — before most people began playing. It was about three weeks before my first game, and though I did complete it later via the Wordle Archive, I didn't remember it.

Not that I think that would have made that difference anyway. The genius of the NYT's approach to repeated words — just throwing one in at random every 10 games or so — means you have to treat every single day as if it could be repeated, but probably won't be. Effectively, that makes repeats almost a non-factor; it doesn't really make sense, statistically to either play or not play a word because it's one of 1,800-odd that could appear for a second time but probably won't.

BREAK has an average score of 4.0, implying it's slightly harder than Thursday's TESTY and a lot more difficult than Wednesday's ALIGN. The reason for that is most likely the existence of FREAK, WREAK, CREAK, BREAD and BREAM, all of which were incorrectly played by a lot of people.

Four of those five were on my shortlist for my third guess, along with DREAM and DREAD. I couldn't see a way to guarantee a four, but could get close with DUMBO — which might have left a 50/50 between FREAK and WREAK but which was otherwise certain to point the way to the solution.

The 'Bot, interestingly, preferred BREAD; this could have left one of two 50/50s, but could also have been the answer itself, so was slightly more risky but with a potentially better reward. That said, it gave us both a skill score of 99/99, so they were equally good choices just with a different strategy in mind.

As it happened, we both scored a four. DUMBO didn't leave me that 50/50, with the yellow B instead confirming that it had to be BREAK.

It is always a thrill when you get a purple first, but sometimes that thrill is lessened by how easy the connection was.

That was the case for me today, with the four WORDS BEFORE "STORY" IN MOVIE TITLES — but then I am wondering if it is like this quite often for people more used to getting the hardest category before any of the easier ones.

Far more likely is that today was a relaxing day designed to lull us into a false sense of weekend security before dealing out a quartet of impenetrable groups tomorrow.

Usually this is not an issue, but in today’s case STEDE was also a word.

“Track event” — that’s athletics right? Err, nope.

Fortunately the spangram — KARAOKE — was very difficult to miss, so I didn’t have to work looking for shot put, discus and javelin. Instead, our quest was searching for musical words.

I have always avoided KARAOKE, both having to sing — which is a nightmare — and also the horror of people murdering some of the greatest songs of all time. It is quite hard to avoid in TV shows, though; recently I suffered my way through Alfred Molina attempting Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen in the otherwise enjoyable The Boroughs. At least I think it was Thunder Road. It’s the sort of thing that should come with a warning before you start watching.

Anyway, I digress… the game was an easy one, made all the easier by a couple of long game words in MICROPHONE and LOUDSPEAKER.

• SpaceX plans a massive factory dedicated to producing AI satellites.
• New AI1 spacecraft could bring computing power directly into orbit.
• Musk wants orbital computing capacity measured in gigawatts annually.

SpaceX has unveiled plans for an enormous manufacturing complex in Bastrop, Texas, that could become central to its ambitions for space-based AI infrastructure.

The proposed Gigasat facility would cover around 11 million square feet and focus on producing satellites designed to function as orbiting data centers.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk claims the Bastrop facility will manufacture much of the hardware required for a new generation of AI satellites.

SpaceX factory dedicated to orbital AI infrastructure

The site will include production lines for solar components, printed circuit boards, electronic systems, communications equipment, and the satellites themselves.

SpaceX plans to also include testing facilities, logistics infrastructure, warehousing capacity, and dedicated development areas across the facility.

At the center of the project is a new spacecraft known as AI1, which the company intends to manufacture in large numbers as a space-based computing platform.

Musk said each satellite would carry a compute payload capable of delivering ~150kW of processing capability while relying on extensive solar arrays for power generation.

The satellite is also expected to span roughly 70 meters in length, with solar arrays generating power at a density of approximately 250 watts per square meter.

Its design also incorporates large radiator structures intended to manage the significant heat generated by onboard computing systems.

SpaceX expects solar manufacturing activities at the site to begin first, while construction of the primary satellite production building is scheduled to follow.

The company believes the facility could begin producing substantial numbers of AI satellites before the end of 2027.

Achieving the stated goal of 1GW of annual orbital AI compute capacity would require the deployment of thousands of satellites operating collectively in orbit.

“This is what we are going to try to do and think we probably can do, which is to get to roughly an annualized rate of a gigawatt per year by the end of next year,” Musk said while discussing the company’s objectives.

Ambitious growth plans

The long-term vision extends well beyond the initial 1GW objective, and Musk has outlined aspirations to increase production in subsequent years, reaching tens of gigawatts.

He also discussed the possibility of achieving even larger scales if future technology developments support such expansion.

Those ambitions emerge as major technology companies continue investing heavily in conventional AI facilities.

Meta's planned Hyperion data center in Louisiana is expected to scale to 5GW and house around 2 million GPUs.

Similarly, xAI's Colossus 2 facility in Memphis has expanded to nearly 2GW with approximately 555,000 GPUs.

Some of the largest announced projects require enormous electrical capacity and investments ranging from tens of billions to more than $100 billion in infrastructure.

Against that backdrop, orbital data centers are increasingly attracting attention as a possible alternative approach for supporting future computational demand.

SpaceX may hold certain advantages because many technologies required for large-scale satellite production already exist within its broader operations.

Much of that experience comes from the company's extensive work designing, manufacturing, and deploying Starlink spacecraft over several years.

Producing solar arrays, satellite structures, communications hardware, and related systems relies largely on established aerospace manufacturing processes.

Creative Assembly has said it was "absolutely the intention" for Alien: Isolation to feel "too scary" for players, and the goal is to make the sequel just as memorable.

Alien: Isolation is one of the best horror games of all time, and in the newly announced sequel, players will once again be stranded in space while a sentient creature hunts them down. How lovely!

Unlike the first game, where players are confined to a space station, Alien: Isolation 2 will have a new setting and feature both exterior and interior environments, which Creative Director Al Hope said "feels like a natural evolution of the experience."

"It's the best of both worlds," Hope said in an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2026, "it has those claustrophobic-type interior spaces and those now exposed and very vulnerable feeling exterior spaces. I think for us, that's the most exciting starting point."

In Isolation 2, these new open spaces also mean players will need to be on their guard more than before, because the creature will also be able to "adapt and behave in a different way in order to be able to hunt in the exterior."

"The alien is well known for, in Alien: Isolation, learning and adapting based on his encounters with the player," Hope said. "It will be doing that in the exterior as well. So, as you come up with strategies and tactics, it will start to learn about those and then be able to circumvent them. So, you have to think again, get really creative, get imaginative, you know, imaginative in order to be able to survive, progress, and survive."

He continued: "The experience is evolving to include the exterior, thus one of the big changes for the creature is being able to hunt the player effectively in the exterior. For us, right now, it feels like a really fantastic opportunity, and I think people can already imagine what that's going to be like."

Animation Director Simon Ridge knows that the first game was loved by fans, and that it also terrified them, adding that the team's goal with Isolation 2 is to "deliver something to the audience that hopefully makes them as happy, terrified as before."

"That's a really fantastic opportunity," Ridge said.

Hope continued, "I like to think that anyone who played Alien: Isolation probably remembers playing Alien Isolation. Even if they think, 'Oh man, that was too scary,' and that's absolutely the intention for the sequel to make something that's truly unforgettable, and I think that combination of interior and exterior will create these moments that really live long after the player puts down the controller (or mouse and keyboard).

"That's the intention: to create something that really stays."

Alien: Isolation 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but it's set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
