The 1TB Touro S carries a significant premium (up to 38%) compared to other slower spinning 1TB hard disk drives. While that might sound a lot on the face of it, the truth is that in reality it's £15 more. Is that a lot to pay for a faster drive? I think not if you've got the need for speed.

We liked

It is fast, although certainly not as fast as a dedicated SSD, but if you don't want to pay extra for the performance gain (we're talking nearly a 5x premium), then it is a pretty compelling offering that sits well between the laggards and the high-end performers.

We disliked

There's not much to criticise about the Touro S. I would certainly have preferred a sturdier, matte enclosure, but that's more of a personal thing. Also I am a bit disappointed that you can't take the drive out should you want to use it somewhere else one day.

Final verdict

If you need an extra terabyte worth of external storage, then the Touro S is a great alternative to other 5400RPM drives available on the market. It is more expensive but also faster and smaller, so if you're happy with that, then go for it.
