  1. Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II review

Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II review

Featuring an only slightly cut-down GK104 GPU compared to the top-end GTX 680, we were big fans of the GTX 670 when it first tipped up. It was only a little slower than the top GeForce card and was much cheaper.

There's a tremendous sense of value when you get this Asus version of AMD's HD 7950 out of the box. It really is rather massive.

We've been waiting for the mainstream-oriented GTX 660 Ti since we first saw the Kepler architecture way back in March this year.

The big issue though for this, effectively, slightly cut-down GeForce GTX 570 is that you can actually pick up a full GTX 570 for only a little more than the price of this hobbled version. The enhanced cooling gives it a bit of an edge, but the triple slot GTX 570 DirectCU II is available for only £259. And that's the card we'd recommend over this one.

So you could get a wonder chip with crazy performance, or you could just get a little bit more for your money. It's a decent card, but the vagaries of GPU headroom could be a worry.

This TOP Edition's overclocked loving though does give it the edge, but the cost here too is going to make things tricky when you're making your buying decision. It's still a good card, but it's really only as good as the AMD offering. Unfortunately then for NVIDIA it's not quite the card-killer that it might have hoped it would be; maybe worth a look in SLI but for now it's still far too close to call definitively.

    Asus EAH3850 OCGear review

    7

Whatever happened to that 1950s science-fiction dream of computers as huge cabinets stacked wall-to-wall, with thousands of blinking lights and adjustable dials? All those optimistic scientists would probably be quite depressed to see what computers have become: mostly dull-grey, metal boxes with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Asus is obviously planning to set the record straight with the EAH3850 OCGear.
