Sony DVP-FX850 scored:
9.0 out of 10
Long battery life (6hrs), excellent picture quality and sound, typical Sony build quality and finish. Great all round item that my young son (6) thinks is brilliant for anywhere movie time. Would recommend this model to anyone looking for a higher end portable dvd player.
None have shown up yet, obviously more expensive than other manufacturers models, but you expect that for Sony quality equipment.
My overall impression of the quality of the Sony, is that you definately get what you pay for. It may be a little dearer than some of the competition but it is well made and looks and feels great. The picture quality of the high resolution screen is excelent! I particularly like the way you can remove a DVD for transit and the unit will remember where you were up to, providing nothing else was played in the meantime. The remote control handset is a useful addition also.So far, the battery life seems to be sufficient to allow a full viewing of the films I've played. The handbook claims that the battery life will improve with each full charge and should allow up to 6hrs with headphone use.We shall see! Sound is good through headphones or external speakers.
Sound is poor with the onboard speakers. It doesn't have sufficient volume to overcome any background noise. The carrybag supplied, is a very tight fit and could be of better quality but I suppose at least you get one!
