As a rather mystified LG employee admitted to me recently, Freeview-recording TVs haven't been the runaway success he might have expected. Maybe the idea of building a hard disk recorder inside a TV is just too far ahead of its time, especially for the normal Freeview (as opposed to Sky) audience.

Second-room TVs rarely come as well-specified as this HD-ready 22in Humax IDTV. With both analogue and digital tuners, it features a seven-day EPG for Freeview and a CI slot for pay-TV.
Taking its place in the mid-range of the company's LCD TV line-up, the Humax LGB32-DST is an undeniably lovely-looking 32in model, but its real attraction is its low price.
It's official: hi-def is within everybody's price range. The latest offering from Humax, its 19in LGB-19DZT, crams a HD-ready resolution into a 19in flatscreen, bringing HDTV to your kitchen or bedroom for less than £300. It sounds ideal, doesn't it? Some killer 32in LCD screens can now be scooped up for less than £1,000, so Humax is rising to the challenge by launching a 32in HD-ready TV with recording capabilities built-in. For just £900.
Short of throwing in a satellite tuner, Humax appears to have thought of pretty much everything with the LP32-TDR-1. Its 32in LCD screen (a 40in version is available) is HD-ready (up to 1080i) and comes fitted with three terrestrial tuners
Once you realise that the Humax LP32-TDR1 has a built-in 160GB hard disk drive, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it's game over for the other competitors. But though this TV's hard disk drive is innovative, there's still one area we have an issue with
